Season 25/26

After missing out on playoffs last season, we had a big rebuilding job to do around the squad. I wanted promotion and with most of the wage budget now open I set about getting a squad together. I had 3 young players i felt were ready for the first team squad so they were promoted and I kept 3 good wingers so decided to stick with 433 midblock, counter. Our keeper let us down a lot last season so we picked up one up on a free who had excellent kicking to help us build up from the back. We needed centre backs so managed to bring back atom from Brighton on loan from last season as well as a player from Man city and a young Argentina lad who was nails which gave us a good balance. I brought in some experience with Nainggolan from my old club on a free, Bacuna whos played in the premier league. We also got in some good midfielders, one on a free from arsenal and Hartjes from Feyenoord. Lastly we needed a goal scorer and got Joe Hugill from Blackburn on loan who they picked up from Man United.

We had a great half of the season and we comfortable sat 2nd but were always behind Emmen who walked the league beating us twice. We had a decent run in the cup beating 2 prem teams and then losing in the Quarters to Willem Em.

January comes around and the board decide to sell 3 of our better players and the Argentina cb was recalled. I learnt from the lessons of last season were we collapsed near the end due to injury crisis. We bought in another cb from a rival in the league, a midfielder from Liverpool who they had used in the champions league, back up striker and a defensive midfielder on a free.
We scored goals for fun all season but never really had a tough tackler so conceded quite a lot. We were comfortable in 2nd with 10 games to go sat 10 clear of 3rd. However we had a mini blip and last season was looking like repeating itself we lost 3 out of 5 and with 5 to go was only 4 clear. However tweaked the tactics and won 4 out 5 to go up.
I'm really enjoying my time here but my contracts up and I don't think I'll renew, the board have given me a wage budget of 60k a week and im going to be competing with teams who have players on more than that. I don't see what a season of struggle and possibly surviving relegation will do for us. There is no jobs no though that I like the look off, so we'll see I may end up staying.

I did take the Cameroon job in January but resign in May, don't know if it was glitch but we had no games, I couldn't arrange friendlies and even delegate to my staff and still no games were arranged, Has anyone else had this. If a bug its a challenge breaker and will make the international leg impossible to complete. Hopefully not as its a world cup year so will be looking to pick one up another job.

I noticed this yesterday, but I don't know if it's the same problem.

European Championships 2048

Having finally picked up my first major trophy with Real Madrid it was time to return to the international stage and lead my England side into the European Championships. We headed to the tournament hosted by Scotland and wales as defending champions as well as being the current world champions too. Unsurprisingly we were ranked number one in the world and very much fancied to go a long way through the tournament. After an injury scare we thankfully managed to take a full strength squad with us, including Chelsea striker Geslin Malaga-Omeonga. He’s a player I have tried and failed to sign with Madrid and would be a real key component if we were to go a long way through the tournament.

We headed into the tournament in fine form as well. A turnaround 2-1 victory over Norway was followed by a 4-2 win over Paraguay as we managed to win both of our warm up matches. In our group we had Serbia, Netherlands and Romania in what definitely could’ve been a simpler prospect, although we were very much favourites to progress to the knockouts.

Group.png.7e28e9920ae394f11fa4334045029bc3.png

We navigated the group although not particularly efficiently. Serbia were dispatched 2-1 in our opener before a dominant display against Romania saw us held to a 1-1 draw. Despite of the fact we had two goals disallowed late on. Finally a last minute equaliser saw us draw 1-1 with the Netherlands to book our spot in the knockout stages.

A 4-1 victory over Greece put us into the quarter finals and book a blockbuster tie against Italy. We conceded twice in the last five minutes of the first half and despite dominating the second period we could only score once to crash out of the competition. I handed in my resignation and left before picking up the job with the Ivory Coast just a few weeks later. Back for my second spell a year out from the next edition of the African Cup of Nations.

Real Madrid: 2048/49 Review

Another season in Madrid is in the books and to be honest it was more of the same. We spent big in the summer and  felt confident that we had enough to finish above Barcelona and lift the La Liga title this time around. We did indeed manage to finish above Barcelona but unfortunately it was our city rivals Atletico who lifted the league as we were once again stuck with a second placed finish.

Table.png.d78aa262f8bf439084862c9870aab20f.png

All in all we had a good campaign and we just got a little bit unlucky to miss out. We performed well for the most part but costly defeats to Barcelona and Atletico late on cost us and second was the best we could manage.

Outside of the league we lifted the Spanish Super Cup but were beaten by Barcelona to deny us back to back Copa del Rey crowns. In the Champions League we made it through the league stage before losing out in the first round of the knockouts. One time I am hoping we can actually put together a good run and try to win it.

With the season over I will now get my first crack at the Club World Cup hosted in Saudi Arabia. We should do alright in it and i would love to have a go at trying to win it. If we could do that then I wouldn’t be able to class this season as a failure. I’ve already got three transfer targets in front of me and I’ve started the process of trying to bring them to the club. If we get all three of them then I truly believe that next year could well be our year.

Ivory Coast: AFCON 2049

Midway through the season in Spain I took my Ivory Coast side to Angola for the next edition of the African Cup of Nations. In truth the less said about this tournament the better. It was my first and would be my only major tournament during my second stint with the nation as we failed miserably. We entered ranked 12th in the world and second in the rankings to Ghana as African teams. They were eliminated at the group stage which made our failure all the more disappointing.

We won our group easy enough as a 0-0 draw with Libya was followed by a thumping 6-1 victory over the hosts and then a 3-1 win over Guinea Bissau. Even the goalless opener was a dominant performance for us as we missed two penalties and spurned a host of chances to win.

In the Second Round we were drawn against Mali and were clear favourites with the bookmakers. Again we dominated the game but this time we were beaten 2-3 after extra time to be sent packing.

A very disappointing end to my reign with the nation and these international tournaments are starting to become a real stretch. For now I have handed in my resignation and I may just steer clear of international management for the time being.

Real Madrid: 2049/50 Review

We went into this season having being surprisingly pipped to last seasons title by city rivals Atletico in what was an extremely frustrating campaign. I’d waited my entire reign to topple Barcelona in the league before being nabbed to the post by Atletico. Summer was all about adding depth to the squad and i felt that we did a really good job. A central midfielder arrived from Liverpool in a £70,000,000 deal but we conducted the majority of our business without spending a great deal.

champions.png.5af48b98c592d514191e92f05389e2c1.png

We would finally lift the La Liga title in what was an exciting and fascinating race. We needed to win our last eight league matches to match Barcelona’s points tally but we always had the advantage due to our head to head record. At one stage we fought back from a seven point deficit but in truth we were always in the hunt this time around. Thankfully it was only a two horse race this time and it was one that we managed to win.

Again outside of the league it was a frustrating season. Manchester United ended our Champions League run at the quarter final stage and we lost in the final of both the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey, both to rivals Atletico.

My reign saw so many cup finals and so many near misses but I have no departed having handed in my resignation after winning the league. We made five finals in the Copa del Rey (every season of my reign) and managed to win it just the once. It felt almost like a relief this time around to finally win the league title. My reign will be remembered for its failures rather than its success but thankfully I’ve won all of the domestic competitions during my time in the Spanish capital. The board begged with me to rescind my resignation but I had made my decision and I’m ready to move on. Italy or Germany are my most likely designations but I’ll wait for the World Cup to end and hopefully witness the crazy managerial merry go round. I’d like to grab a new international role as well after my failure with the Ivory Coast.

Gez takes us through the wringer. When he does complete the challenge, it will be the joint happiest I'll have ever been for someone else on this challenge.

You’re missing a big word at the beginning of that @vikeologist. “If”. It’s a good job I’m resilient because I take a peppering off this ultimate challenge 😂

@Safe Handsit was quite tedious but I knew I could do it in the end. I had such a strong squad I can’t believe it took so long. I found the Madrid leg of the challenge much more exciting than Paris though, where winning was a formality. Thankfully I don’t have any rush to finish the challenge so will just keep plodding along. I may get there eventually. Time may restrict slightly when wwe 2k24 is released mind you.

Season 2048/49 - Manchester City

I joined Man City with the aim of winning the World Club Cup at the end of this season so i only played through the transfer windows to ensure we were built and prepared as best as possible. The months in between were holidayed and so we ended up finishing 3rd in the league, lost to Man Utd in the semis of the FA Cup, knocked out in the fourth round to Bournamouth in the Carling Cup and lost to Man Utd again in the Europa Cup final. All that didnt matter of course but still not a great season truth be told.

There were quite of few big clubs from Europe missing from this competition, no Real Madrid, no PSG, no AC Milan, only Tottenham from England and no Bayern Munich either.  Surely there wouldnt be a better opportunity to win this tournament than now!

In the World Club Cup group stager, we were given a favourable group with Zamalek, Colo Colo and Club America not posing a challenge as we breezed through with three heavy wins. In the second round, we were given a tough task against my former employees in Lyon.

Second Round

Spoiler

A match that we dominated became one that we had to really grind to get the win.  After taking the lead in the 29th minute, Lyon hit us twice in injury time before the half to go in with the lead.  We manage to equalise ten minutes after the break and the winner came in the 74th minute for a 3 - 1 win.  A better match up for us next with Galatasaray

Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

Our main striker got injured against Lyon and would miss the rest of the tournament. It mean we had to play my starting AM as striker in a role that he wasnt all too familiar with. He did though give us the lead here before half time but also squandered a number of chances to give us the two goal cushion and Gala made us pay in the 93rd minute to take it into extra time.  We got revenge tho as we managed to win the contest before penalties in the last minute of extra time. Another favourable draw on paper against Internacional in the semis

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

Finally we made good use of the favourable draw and won this won easily 3 - 0.  We meat Real Betis in the final who beat Inter in the semis

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

Two goals in four minutes all but sealed this win for us in the first half.  A no contest 3 - 0 win means we only need to win a domestic cup to conclude the club side of the challenge

Season 2049 - Velez

In search of the elusive last domestic cup competition the Velez job popped in September which was towards the end of their season with them somewhat struggling in mid table but still in the Copa Argentina om the Quarters and scheduled against a non professional team. This gave a good opportunity for a quick snatch and grab and end my club coaching career.  First couple of league games we lost 3 - 2 at home and then 4 - 1 away and with the transfer window closed shut, i quickly found out that this was not going to be a cake walk.

Quarter Final

Spoiler

We appropriately dealt with our non league opponents 4 - 1.  Out of the 3 other teams in the semis, we got the worst team based on league standings in Estudiantes.

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

we simply didnt turn up for this in the first half. We were completely dominated and the only positive we could take was that we didnt concede. 10 minutes after the break things got worse as our right back was sent off and somehow that was the spark we needed as we managed to score 3 goals with 10 men and kept a clean sheet in the process as well.  In the final we meat Racing Club our competitive rivals

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

In a real tight and somewhat dull affair both teams went into the half time break goalless. The second half continued in the same vein as the first half until Ortiz our lone wolf up front scored on the hour mark.  That seemed to open up the game a little and Racing equalised with 8 minutes left.  From that point there only looked to be one winner which was us and in the 97th minute we were awarded a penalty as Ortiz doubled his tally to win the Cup!  Job done!

FC Bayern Munich: 2050/51 Review

Having left Real Madrid it wouldn’t be long before I was packing my bags and heading to Germany. Bayern Munich was an easy decision to make and an opportunity to try and grab at least a league title in hopefully a one season stop off.

I inherited a squad that was packed with quality and that had just won the Bundesliga title by over twenty points. There were a lot of more mature players in the squad but that didn’t matter to me. This squad was destined for success and I shouldn’t have to work too hard at it. I made just two transfers ahead of the season, both of them arriving from Real Madrid. Firstly I parted with £80,000,000 to sign holding midfielder Phillip Carl and then we grabbed Serbian winger Strahinja Lukovic on a season long loan deal.

My reign started badly as we were hammered 0-3 by Dortmund in the season opening Super Cup. I need not have worried though as it certainly wasn’t an indication of how the season would go.

Table.png.f8c94ac886c99e6cd26b1ed13b1552d2.png

We would breeze to the league title with a minimum of fuss as we won it with four games to spare at the end of the season. The quality within the squad was just far too much for anybody to keep up with over a whole season. Defensively we were absolutely sublime and that enabled our attacking players to win us points and they did just that. My two summer transfers both proved influential and in truth it was a great season for all involved.

Celebrations.png.daa932e5f831728e3f222b9bbbb6f9ef.png

The DFB Pokal was another competition I was keen to win in order to complete the domestic double. We breezed through the competition in truth. Our toughest test was Dortmund, but once we’d seen them off 2-0 it was plain sailing. The final itself was a thriller as we won it 6-3. The score line didn’t tell the whole story though as we fought from behind twice before scoring some late goals to add some gloss. That said another trophy added to the collection and on the domestic side it was a season well done.

GezSaunders_Inbox-3.png.d31f8a63a5da5c0d0386a3b3751fe764.png

The Champions League was the only real disappointment of our season as we crashed out in the knockout play offs to Arsenal. I expected to go a lot further through the competition although we struggled through the league phase as well.

Resignation.png.f2dbcb35f2bca5a864cf0c9914e9eb14.png

I handed in my resignation the day after we won the double and in truth we achieved all we could do in super quick time. Two more trophies chalked off and the opportunity to move on within the one season. I wasn’t out of work long before signing a deal to take over recently crowned Serie A champions, Inter Milan. The Italian league is extremely competitive but my side will definitely be considered amongst the favourites to win the title. I have also signed on as manager of the Ivory Coast for a third stint at the helm. There is an African Cup of Nations in a few months time and I’m keen to finally lift that trophy. Hopefully our efforts will be better than in my previous stints.

Quick update for season 26/27 as bit of damp Squibb and not much happened.

Got my 2nd international job with Nigeria few friendlies and comfortable qualified for next season AFCON. Had lots of options after world cup but fancied working with an Elite player in Oshimen rather than my usual part time farmers.

I left Den Bosch and had a lot of interesting jobs. Was gutted as was offered Inter Miami who still had Messi. Was going to take it but was also interviewed for the Real Zaragoza job who were in la liga as job I wanted. So I delayed the offer in between this took the Nigeria job so Inter Miami withdrew the offer. I ideally wanted to stay in Europe. Took until November to get a job. Took Kaiserslautern in Bundesliga 2. They were in trouble, I started well with 4 draws and 2 wins messed around with tactics so went on a bad run and end up surviving relegation last game of season.  I ultimately wanted to play with a two striker formation but I use can't get it working, tried 442 diamond and 4222, 3412, 4312. Just can't get one to work.

I want to aim for promotion next season we have 3 CB who are Bundesliga quality, Mcatee from Man City who is quality and few other players who are good for the league. I've also got a kid coming in on loan from sporting Lisbon who described as the next Eusebio. Plus decent wage budget and get some big earners off the budget. Just need to fit them into a formation but boringly looking like 433 again but would love to get one working with two strikers

Risultato immagine per manchester city logo

Eventually, after a long wander around, we arrive at what is probably the best team in the world: Manchester City, a club that is very strong both financially and in terms of individuals.

PREMIER LEAGUE

PL.thumb.png.3388367f05b2b154ff5a254acc795ee7.png

In the Premier League, as in all the other competitions, there is little possibilità for the others: we score 103 points with 111 (111!) goals scored, a frightening scoreline that puts us +20 ahead of Liverpool in second place.

CARABAO CUP & FA CUP

CC.thumb.png.2f8263df4fe179561bfd7edcaee14902.png

FAC.thumb.png.9a875a3f2c85bda48207cd7ee9e39276.png

Few chances for the others also in the two national competitions that we won both in the final against Liverpool, with frightening results (4-1 and 4-0) that closed the best season of our career.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

CL.thumb.png.c4cb30ec00e635d1e6797cd0d5bce1d6.png

The path is clear even in the Champions League where, after arriving second in the championship phase at -2 from the first PSG, we eliminate Aston Villa in the English derby, Juventus in the quarter-finals, Lens, the great surprise of the competition, in the semifinals, and then knock out reigning champion Barcelona in the final, winning 2-0 the first Champions League of our career.

Inter Milan: 2051/52 Review

The less said about my third stint with the Ivory Coast the better, as our African Cup of Nations journey came to an end a lot earlier than I had hoped. We’d made it through the Group stage comfortably enough but then suffered elimination in the round of 16.

My first season in Italy proved to be anything but special, although it certainly wasn’t a disaster. I signed winger Strahinja Lukovic permanently from Real Madrid in a £40,000,000 deal as well as loaning in right back Danilo Bologna from Arsenal. Both proved to be good arrivals for us.

ItalianSerieA_Stages-5.png.e75932f7a4f46aec576356c9fb58fa1e.png

We finished as distant runners up to city rivals AC Milan as we faded off down the home straight. For half a season we were right in the league title battle but AC were relentless and we lost pace over the last ten or so games. We had a good season though and I wouldn’t think if we could replicate that again we would finish a lot closer to winning the league. Striker Pereirinha was our real key man. He scored 38 goals in 38 appearances as he consistently fired us to positive results.

Outside of the league we did alright without setting the world alight. Benfica ended our Champions League run at the quarter final stage, whilst AC Milan sent us packing in the Copa Italia at the semi finals. The Italian Super Cup was our one disaster as lost out at the first stage before also losing the third placed play off.

I’m fairly pleased with how the campaign went as a whole, although the way our season fell to nothing from fighting across all fronts was disappointing. There was plenty of positives though and with the opportunity to bring in some new faces I’m confident that we can do better next time around. I’ve also picked up the job as manager of Nigeria and I’m hoping that gives me an opportunity to compete better for the next edition of the African Cup of Nations. I’ve failed miserably across three stints with the Ivory Coast so I’m hoping I can do better with a different nation.

2050 World Cup - Netherlands

My tenure with the Netherlands started real rough. We lost all six games in the UEFA Nations League against France, Turkey and Denmark x2.  It quickly made me realise that the decision I made to go with this country might have been the wrong one. In qualifying for the World Cup, we finished second in our group with Switzerland finishing first, again, not the best showing.

With a group of Spain, Cameroon and China we shouldnt really have had any issues getting our of that group but top spot was going to be a challenge. We ended up drawing with Spain and beating the other two to win top spot where we would meet Turkey in the next round.  We had already lost twice to them in my short tenure with the Netherlands.

Second Round

Spoiler

A really tough, nuggety 1 - 0 win with the goal coming in the second half. We meet Senegal in the next round with the draw opening up for us it seems

Round of 16 (if applicable)

Spoiler

A great performance and a 4 - 1 win.  Is this team finally gelling?  Mexico next in the quarter final

Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

A 6 - 1 demolition!  Dare to dream??   France in the semis with the winner to play against either Colombia or surprise packets Tunisia

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

the match started off in the worst possible way giving away a penalty in the 7th minute.  Much to my delight De Jong saved it!   It wouldnt be long thos until France opened the scoring and with another late in the second half our dreams were over.  We just didnt have the quality to compete

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

For what its worth, Colombia won the final 2 - 0

2052 Euros - Spain

I decided to jump ship after the World Cup as i just thought that Netherlands didnt have the quality to win a tournament even though we did quite well. I decided to go with Spain instead of Portugal as England seem to take so long to make a decision and I didnt want to take the risk of not getting that job and not having anything going into the Euros.

In qualifying, funnily enough we were paired with the Netherlands and my decision to jump was vindicated as we finished top of our group and Poland finished second meaning the Netherlands did not qualify.

Our group in the Euros consisted of teams from the Balkans in Croatia, Greece and Bosnia which we won all three.  Call out to the 8 - 3 win against Greece who still managed to finish second.

We were given an absolute shocking draw in the second round i current holders Portugal and that is pretty much where my journey with Spain ended as we lost in pens after a dull 0 - 0 draw where we looked the more likely to score.

So I resigned before they could sack me and ended up going with Portugal who lost in the final against Germany in extra time.

2054 World Cup - Portugal

Might have to shorten these updates up as it could be a while before I add another tick to the challenge.  World Cup prep was great, group of Nigeria, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia didnt pose any problems.

Second round against Senegal again didnt pose any problems as the team were scoring for fun scoring 18 goals in the four games so far.  Next up was Uruguay.  In a game we dominated and should have clearly won, Uruguay twice came back from a goal down to take the game into extra time. They scored within 2 minutes of extra time and we equalised within two minutes of full time to take it in pens.  In a repeat of the Spain exit in the Euros, we missed our first two pens and that was it.

Ive resigned and will try the Euros next with France.  Not enjoying this truth be told!

Season 27/28
Nigeria | Flags of the world

We entered the Afcon as favourites, ive won every game with the team so far claiming them to 13th in world rankings. I had a couple of elite players in Osihmen and Chukuweze (spelling) so other goods forwards and decent defensive. We were lacking in midfield, we had one really good player at Milan Eletu but he wasnt playing much. I would be disappointed if we didnt win this as lots of our rivals were ageing teams.

Groups didn't pose too much of a problem and was available to rest full team for the last game

2nd Round we faced Egypt no Salah no problem. Although I thought. We were lucky in this game. They missed two great chances in the first, but we managed to grab the winner and move on into the next round

We had to rest players for the quarters against Senegal. I had been playing quite a high press but with players missing decided to lower things and play a slow tempo. It was a blessing in disguise, we comfortable beat them 3-0. It also learnt me a valuable lesson for these tournaments going forward this is the way to go to manage fitness and fatigue.

Into the semis with a full fit squad we faced Tunisia. They didnt prove a challenge and were blown away in first 30 mins, allowing to me ease off and conserve fitness for the final were we would face either Ivory coast who likes us were undefeated and had some strong players.

What a game, I took the lead very early. Oshimen had been quite in the tournament. After scoring Ivory coast game on strong and were dominating us, they equalised and then took a deserved lead. I had to change so decided to go back to pressing high and often. It worked and we grabbed the equaliser. Into extra time we had a lot of players dead on their but I had subbed on 3 new cms to try and control the game and it worked, we managed to grab 2 goals for a 4-2 lead. Mr Clutch coming to the party finally and grabbing a hat-trick. it was a nerve 2nd half with Ivory coast having a goal disallowed and grabbing a late one. we done it first cup out of the way. Needed as club form is going great but that will be an update for another time. I'll post some sort of table to track my progress now i have won something. There no world cup for 3 years and no international jobs about other than Africa nations., going to resign, I wouldnt be able to compete with this squad at a world cup and its 3 years away, would have stayed had it been in the summer.

Inter Milan: 2052/53 Review

My second season in Italy has drawn to a close and it was definitely an eventful one. We headed in on the back of a disappointing campaign last time out which promised so much, but ended up delivering so little. To counter that we brought in six new players whilst also clearing out a lot of dead wood. Just over £170,000,000 was spent on arrivals, although we made just shy of that in player sales.

FinalTable.png.1a6dea6dc307c9b599fa35c4f0236bb5.png

We would go on to win the Serie A title although it was a lot less convincing than it should’ve been. After a mediocre start we strung together a ridiculous nineteen match winning streak which catapulted us top of the pile and with a big lead. A 0-0 draw with title rivals AC Milan saw us head into the final seven matches with a nine point lead. From there on in we stuttered though and almost ended up crawling over the line with just a game to spare. It should have been much simpler than we made it.

Outside of the league we had a disastrous season though. Napoli eliminated us from the Copa Italia at the quarter final stage and Manchester City sent us packing from the Champions League at the round of 16. In the Italian Super Cup we got through Napoli to book a final against our city rivals but after a 1-1 draw were beaten on penalties to miss out on another trophy.

With that I bid farewell to Italy and look for the next chapter of my journey. The domestic cups are becoming a bit of a worry for me with regards to the challenge but at least another league title has been collected. I did debate stating on for another season to try and collect the domestic cup but we were taken over by a tycoon midway through the season and I didn’t like his approach. After completing his takeover he moved to sign two defenders for a total of just over £130,000,000. Having spent two years building our squad I couldn’t stay and watch the new owner destroy it with big money signings. In truth I’m not even sure that the two new guys are an upgrade on anything we had anyways.

So I depart Italy with a couple of possible targets in mind for my next destination. There’s a little under six months until the next African Cup of Nations and in truth I’d happily focus on leading my Nigeria side into that tournament before picking up a new club job. I won’t turn down any exciting opportunities but I also won’t be rushed. My next couple of jobs are pivotal for me if I’m going to complete this challenge.

Inter Milan: 2053 Club World Championship

Having won the league title in Italy my aim was to move on and hit the next country on my world tour. As the season ended it suddenly dawned on me that the Club World Championship was coming up and so I decided to hold off tendering my resignation for a shot at more silverware. My stint with Inter had been a little lacklustre and I felt that picking up another trophy would give me a welcome departure.

Hosted by Qatar we entered the competition as reigning champions. I had anticipations of going far in it even though we’d never really hit the heights in the Champions League under my management. We had a very strong squad though and I had confidence in our abilities.

We navigated through the group stage with ease, keeping three clean sheets in the process. First up we dispatched Al-Ahli 4-0, before narrowly defeating Boca Juniors 1-0 and then thumping Toronto FC 4-0.

Top spot in the group saw us drawn against Flamengo in the round of 16 and another comfortable victory saw us progress 2-0.

America of Mexico were seen off comfortably to make the last four as a fantastic display saw us into the semis. We did concede our first goal of the tournament late on but held on for a 3-1 victory. Expecting to be drawn again Barcelona I was shocked as FC Porto hammered them 5-0 to give us a potentially easier semi final.

That didn’t prove the case but we did manage to win and reach the final. We ended on top of a topsy turvy affair as we won 4-2 in a match full of thrills. The final would definitely prove our toughest ask though, as our city rivals AC Milan awaited us. My side had not beaten them under my management but this would definitely be the greatest of stages to pick up that first win over them and lift the Club World Championship in the process.

Final.png.b625ee3c02326a07f80843d0b32b6e24.png

We were outplayed throughout but thankfully completed a smash and grab victory late on. My first victory over AC Milan and a trophy to boot. I had real panic when we gave away a penalty but they missed and that seemed to give my players some confidence to push on. We held on well enough once we’d taken the lead and that was very pleasing indeed.

Celebrations.png.5b32e5be786dd134894d38aaf139b411.png

Another trophy and in truth probably one of the tougher ones to get for this challenge. I still haven’t navigated my next move so I think for now I’m going to stay with Inter. I’ve splashed a ton of the tycoon owners money and now will spend the season chasing the domestic cup and the Champions League. If something pops up in my desired nations then I’ll jump ship but for now I may as well stay where I am rather than walk away and spend a season unemployed. At least there are a couple of trophies I can chase in the mean time.

Season 26/27
kaiserslautern (german football club) | Download logos | GMK Free Logos

I said I wanted promotion after last season but there was massive holes in the squad. We set about correcting this bringing in Zerouli a playmaker on a free from Italy who came through Ac Milan academy, Joe Gerladhat a pressing forward from Leeds who first training session did his cruciate ligaments and was out for 8 months, we brough in a wonderkid forward/winger from Sporting described as next Euesbio on loan, a wonderkid centre back on loan from Chelsea, a new right back and Jobe Bellingham on loan.
I didn't learn from my mistakes of last season and messed around with tactics trying to make a 2 striker system work and Zerouli as a regista. We were stuck in mid table by time i finished the Afcon and the board were satisfied but the fans wanted me out. Decided to abandon this and go back to a 433 and use Zerouli as a DLP. We were helped in January by signing a 6.6ft anchor man from the Bundesliga who helped us play with a higher line as he would win the headers from goal kicks. Gerladht returned and boy did we kick on. We went on a unbeaten run which meant last game of the season we had a chance of automatic. We needed a win but Nurenburg to lose as they had superior goal difference. We did our job but unfortunately Nuremburg managed a draw which sent us in the playoffs against St Pauli. We were comfortable throughout the 2 legs winning 1-0 away and 2-1 at home. fantastic considering our first half form. I think I'm a 433 guy my succusses at Sorin, with Den Bosch and Nigeria has all been 433 and now promotion.
I'm out of contract, im not sure what to do ive assemble a great back room team bring in Ashley Young and Eder as new coaches to see if they do really improve with courses and they do, also got Michael Carrick as my number two. Problem is board are only giving me 350k a week, losing both my wonder kids, Zerouli has a 9m release clause and is wanted by 12 clubs so he's going. A normal save i'd stick around and give it a go but i'd need 3/4 season to be in a position to compete with Bayern, it would be a waste. I may save the game under a different file and return to it one day and stick here but for now its a Euros summer so I'm going to see what jobs are out there and both club and international once the madness starts of the managerial merry go round.
I want a team I can win something with next with rebuilding for a few years, prefer in Europe.

Nigeria: African Cup of Nations 2053

So midway through my season with inter Milan I got to down my club tools and head off to my international duties with Nigeria. For me this would be my fourth African Cup of Nations, but my first in charge of Nigeria with the previous three coming across three different stints as manager of the Ivory Coast. My performances had been underwhelming to say the least, but this time I hoped an attempt with a new nation may bring better luck. Strangely the tournament was listed as 2053, despite the fact it kicked off early in 2054.

My Nigerian side were ranked 18th in the world as we headed to Gabon and I knew we should be considered one of the nations expected to go a long way through the tournament. Unfortunately my previous attempts had left personal scars and I was very much nervous of this one. I also feared about our squad. We had a strong starting eleven but we certainly lacked quality in depth. If we were to do well then we would need to keep our main players fit and healthy throughout.

Group.png.413a1a38e8a0796d7f41ad10a3f879d7.png

We navigated through a potentially tricky group with relative ease actually. First up were South Africa, the strongest of the opponents. We didn’t play well but rescued a draw with a goal five minutes from time. Next up we saw off the Gambia 2-0 in a comfortable performance before a 4-1 drubbing of Zambia gave us progression as group winners.

nockour.png.21bbc37d05d771b49b9cd02c9233a040.png

After comfortably finding our way through Guinea 2-0 we faced a challenging run through the knockouts. Extra time was needed to see off Morocco in a quarter final thriller before we put in yet another superb performance in the semi final with Senegal. we raced 2-0 ahead, found ourselves 2-3 behind before scoring a late equaliser to force extra time. In extra time we were sublime and two goals saw us into the final where we would face Ivory Coast. Ironic in truth.

final.png.ad869b1225b674b8a62d2d3633436ce0.png

We entered the final as huge underdogs, but we didn’t let that stop us. Unsurprisingly we spent much of the game under severe pressure but we managed to get the job done. My team did me proud and they righted my personal wrong of failing so badly at the AFCON. A goal in each half proved enough and I’m delighted that we managed to upset the odds.

trophylift.png.ef7c22484d93946b921e7fecaea64b85.png

With that I handed in my resignation, thankfully knowing I’ll never need to attend another AFCON as a manager. I’m proud of the fact I finally managed to get my hands on it, but I’m glad to be able to stop chasing after it. For now I can focus on my Inter Milan side and look for a new international job after the World Cup this summer. I’m still looking for a way out of Inter Milan but so far nothing of interest has come up for me. I’m patient and I’m confident it’ll happen soon enough.

From the highs of World Cup glory......to the uncertain times of administration!

First of all.....appreciate the love from the Australia post! Only 2 more trophies to get!

But following my departure from the socceroos, I applied for 3 Italian jobs.....

Inter Milan - Rejected me.

Hellas Verona - I rejected them.

Lazio - Joined! Without knowing the financial peril that lay before me.

I joined Biancocelesti in December 2046 with them sat in 11th in Serie A. What I didn't realise (Don't think there's a way to tell exact figures prior to joining), is that they were £90 million in debt. "Finances = Okay". But we plowed on. Finishing 5th in the league when the expectations were to avoid relegation. Not bad!

I should add that I didn't really read the rules around transfers too well and signed 4 Argentinians that i couldn't actually register.

image.thumb.png.7aaf1edf1a5b71f53e309d07844ffb33.png

Onto the first proper season with Lazio and a summer of transfer mayhem. Even with the huge debt, I was still given transfer funds to spend. I had to go wild to build a team that can challenge and bring some money in!

Couple of bargains came in after I made sure they weren't classed as foreign players.

image.png.5cc9e9b1af970fc3ceb78dc92a244586.png

What the transfer outgoings don't show you in the screenshot, is that I had to loan out 2 of the Argentinians for this season because I would have to have sold 2 foreign players the season before, to be able to register them. Something in which I didn't understand.......and didn't do.

image.png.a61fcf79ca970d4e34fe22e1be778010.png

The current season has started well...

image.png.b30363e4ef0a762ea0953cb2b034d065.png

Until.....

image.png.4c72d9aaa55624d1b346cd32e5fb7758.png

Wage budget-wise.....I'm smashing that! But it means very little in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not sure what this means for me. Will I be sacked? Will a takeover occur? Will there be a points decuction? Will I resign?

Another rule I wasn't aware of....

image.png.354fced549b2ea07f66a0028a3013f7d.png

Great.

Challenge Completed!!!

From the outskirts of Budapest, through the harbour city of Kiel......dabbling in the south of France, the north of Spain & the delights of Munich.......ending my time fearing for my life in Lazio because I wouldn't sell players!

I had some mega luck with joining some teams when they were in such good positions for trophies already.

I also didn't have to spend too long in South Africa, which was such a pain in my previous attempts.

The Bilbao job being a particular highlight of mistakes during the challenge! Got to make sure those rules are read before committing to a team/league.

Inter Milan: 2044/45 Review

My final season with Inter Milan didn’t contain anything of note really. I spent a lot of money in the transfer market but it didn’t pay off for us. We finished 3rd in the league, but a long way off of the pace. In fact only a poor end to the season from Juventus let us finish in that 3rd spot.

Outside of the league we made the semi finals of both the Italian Cup and the Champions League before falling short in both. AC Milan ended our domestic cup run with a 1-3 aggregate score line and Manchester United sent us packing from Europe with a 1-2 aggregate score line. To add salt to the wounds we would also be beaten by Napoli in the final of the Italian Super Cup.

That brought to an end a somewhat lacklustre spell in Italy for me. Domestic cups are starting to prove a real hindrance and I now find myself hunting for roles where I can try and pick up some of the missing ones. I’m avoiding England as I plan to end my challenge in my home nation and hopefully with my beloved Arsenal.

I have picked up the international job of England for a second time as a couple of seasons have now come and gone. The 2056 European Championships are about to kick off and ranked 7th in the world I feel we stand a chance. I’ve also finally picked up an interview with an intriguing challenge and so may be about to end my time on the unemployment line. I didn’t want to be out of work for this long but I also want to make sure that I pick and choose the jobs I take from here on out. I don’t plan on wasting much more time. Especially as my laptop is now starting to struggle if I load up anymore than one nation at a time. I’m a little worried that may end up being the killer of this years attempt at this challenge but for now I’m fighting on through the slow processing times.

@Gregg88 huge congratulations mate. As someone who's never completed this challenge I can do nothing other than to tip my hat to those who have. Congratulations again and good luck to whatever you decide to do next.

Cheers mate! Make sure you keep going with yours. So close! Just get into those small countries with short seasons for the cups ;) Haha!

YEAR 2064 - THE CHALLENGE IS COMPLETE

Since my last update failing with Portugal in the 2054 World Cup in the round of 16, we then went with France for the Euros and whilst we won the Nations League the year before, were knocked out in the second round by Italy 4 - 2 in what was a dismal effort.

After France I decided to go with Spain again for the 2058 World Cup where we would ride our luck a little in the knock out stages to make the semi finals with only Norway, South Korea and Ireland left.  I was licking my lips at the competition at that point, however we got spanked by Norway 5 - 1 in the semis after taking the lead in the first minute.

I decided to stay with Spain for the Euros. A couple of late goals in the second round against Ireland and Quarters against Turkey but couldnt find one against Croatia as we were knocked out in the semis in penalties.

Again decided to stay with Spain (by this time i was losing motivation to drill down and look into other nations) for the 2062 World Cup. Had quite the favourable run in the knockouts, beating Morocco, Turkey, Serbia before beating Belgium in the semi final 2 - 1 thanks to a 93rd minute winner. We then got England in the final with both teams locked at 1 - 1 after the 90 minutes. England took the lead in extra time but we managed to peg them back 4 minutes later and took the final to penalties. We were down 2 - 1 in pens but saved the next two and scored all ours to win the World Cup.   Now only the Euros left.

Obviously stayed with Spain given we were hosting the Euros. What a way to complete this challenge, in front of my adoring country that I have been managing for the last 10 years.  The lead up to the tournament wasnt the best as we lost to Italy in a friendly 6 days before our first group game against Belgium. We beat Belgium, then drew with Wales then beat Scotland to top our group.  Our reward for finishing first was to play Italy in the second round. Two goals in the 71st and 78th minute helped fight back and get through to the next round 2 - 1. Netherlands next in what was an insane game. Final score was 7 - 5 in extra time.  It was 4 - 4 after 90 minutes and Netherlands scored first in extra time to make it 5 - 4, however we managed to score 3 times to get through. Our reward was a semi final against England, a rematch of the World Cup final. Penalties werent required this time as we beat them fair and square 2 - 0. In the Final, a somewhat favourable draw in Croatia. We took the lead in the 31st minute and they received a red card with 20 mins left in the game and I had thought we were cruising.  I was wrong as 3 minutes later they equalised and took the game to extra time.  We scored just before the extra time half time break (managed to score a few goals in extra time over my journey) to complete the challenge!

I holidayed  month later in hope that the Aston Villa job would pop up but funnily enough I (being the CPU) decided to take the Mexico job so have provided the below as evidence

Ajax Logo PNG Transparent (1) – Brands Logos

I've been messing around with a few different saves but wasn't feeling them so came back to this. After leaving Kaiserslautern I wanted somewhere i could compete for trophies. The Ajax job was available, I didn't think I would get it but got the interview and was handed the job. Ajax haven't won anything in the game on my save, no league or cup for a club this size that was a madness. Especially when i looked at the squad which was very talented with a few holes. Biggest gap was centre back, I only had 1, so I bought in the wonderkid from Chelsea I had on loan last season, I really good ball playing one called Faye from Barcelona and a young kid from Benfica I tried to signed last season. However vultures were circulating around my squad. Spurs paid 70m rising to 90m for our best winger, I took a decent price for our keeper who was 37, we had a young keeper who hadn't developed because he hasn't played and brought in James Trafford for 100k to give some competition. We let Tammy Abraham leave for big money as he was 31 and spent 65m on Moukoko from Dortmund, also bought in Harvey Elliot from Liverpool and a wonderkid from Brazil to replace the winger we lost to Spurs.

We dominated all season and never looked in danger of losing the league. Being crown champions with 4 games left to spare. We also picked up the Dutch cup beating Az comfortable in the final. Our first pieces of silverware at club level. We were competitive in the champions league making the last 16 were we drawn against Man City. Decided we had to play on the counter and it worked a treat 1dst leg at home we were 3-0 until the 90 minute when Haaland grabbed a late goal. I had a feeling this would prove costly and that was the case. We were dominated in the 2nd leg and couldnt get into but kept it at 1-0 until the 90th minute again when a 37 year old De Bruyne scored to take the game to extra time. City scored again to make it 3-0 on the night 4-3 on aggregate. We went all out and missed 2 sitters injury time extra time which would have taken it to pens. I don't feel we are a million miles away possible winning the champions league. I got a lot of really good young players who have plenty of room to develop. I've already signed 7 young lads on free to play in our B team who all could develop as well as few more regens from around the globe. the league isnt the hardest and ive enjoyed playing around with roles and tactics which might not be possible in a harder league. If something pops up I like the look of i may leave, otherwise will stay another year and have a great a champions league. I also got one of best Regens ive seen so want to see how he develops.

What is the etiquette around discussing tactics and asking for advice on the forums, a no go?

Not sure what your question means. Obviously there's a section for discussing tactics. It's not that you can't discuss it elsewhere. It's just that the most knowledgeable people are to be found there. Of course they know they're the most knowledgeable, and occasionally they're the most knowledgeable but also maybe wrong, which can lead to spikiness.

They obviously do have an etiquette, but i personally don't know what it is. If someone tells you that you're wrong, don't get into an argument.

Anyway, on this particular thread, I don't think there's any particular etiquette.

I don't personally give infinite advice on which nation to start in, which jobs to take etc. I'm sure I do that quite a lot, but I sort of want people to forge their own path. But everybody else is welcome to discuss tactics and advice as much as they like.

Sorry mate maybe not worded properly. I mean in regards to the challenge is it seen as cheating asking for advise? Back story I've took another job with elite ageing players. A thread was on the tactic section the other day which was tempted to join in as was similar to my predicament. Have a tactic I think would work, but wouldn't mind a second opinion before I break it out and get fired😀

I would encourage people to offer advice. Really, there's no limit to the things people can discuss on here. Let's share our anguish.

Inter Milan Football Club | Latest Sports Alerts

After winning the double with Ajax, the Inter Milan job was available so decided it was too good an opportunity to not apply. I was given the job. 2 days after I had my first game World club cup semi final against Real Madrid. Instant chance to knock one of the trophies off. Unfortunately Madrid were far too strong with my old friend from Nigeria Osmihmen doing the damage.
The squad was mainly made up of the players when you start the game. Bastoni, Barella, Frattessi, Thuram, Di Marco and Martinez were all still quality and they also had Joao Felix. Squad was missing a centre half so brought Rensch with me from Ajax, also needed a wide player and brought in the next Eusebio i had on loan at Kaisersluten , added  some experience in Kai Havertz on loan, Gusto on loan from Chelsea and brough in Fabián and eric Dier to bolster the squad. Inter seem to be a factory of wonderkids, but I didn't feel they were ready and loaned out 30 players. 5 of them were voted in the Next Gen top 50!
We got to the final of the Super coppa Italia but lost to Napoli on penalties. We also got to the quarter finals of the Europa league but lost to eventually winners Valencia after extra time. This one hurt as were winning 2-0 in 1st leg but blew it to draw 2-2, we were winning 1-0 in 2nd leg until injury time Valencia equalised and took it to extra time.

In the league our home form was perfect winning every single match, away we were patchy, however we were 5 points clear of Napoli with 2 games to go and playing them in Naples knowing a poitn we would be champions. We were totally outclassed and lost 6-0!! luckily last game season was at home to Fiorentina and we won to win the title.
We also won the Coppa Italia beeating our great rivals Ac 1-0 with the next Euesbio grabbing the wiinner.
The old pro were still class Martinez scoring 26 goals and Thuram scoring 23.

What's next, I need to get an international job, there a World Cup about to be played so looking to pick up a job from a nation who has a continental cup approaching, Think Asia cup and Euros so will be hoping for one of them.
I could stay at Inter as I have a squad of Wonderkids and try and win the champions league, I think they are a few years away from being ready for that level and if i stay will probably loan them out again. I'm 1.5m a week under the clubs wage budget but the club is in trouble financial and losing over 15m a month due to a debt, being back in Champions league my help. The old guard as well need replacing and that's 7 starting 11 players. I don't think I want that sort of challenge, The Chelsea job is available now and World cup normally brings up a few jobs. Only thing is I only did a season with Ajax so don't want to get a rep of job jumping.

SEASON 2039/2040

Risultato immagine per villarreal fc

Another intense season after the one with Manchester City. After the English adventure we fly to Spain to Villarreal.

LIGA

LIGA.png.3608ffbad8b48b61d170c41ad1977f94.png

In the championship we were protagonists in a race until the last day, point to point with Barcelona, winning by two points, 95 vs. 93.

EUROPA LEAGUE

EL.png.3d39a365af014ef2bef44591d5627d63.png

In the European competition, the Europa League, we barely reach the round of 16, where we are eliminated by Sporting Lisbon due to the 2-0 win for the Portuguese in the first leg.

COPA DEL REY

Finally, we came to the Copa del Rey, which we won almost with ease, defeating opponents within our reach and then facing Barcelona in the final, beating them 2-1.

Going to give this a go for the first time and see where my travels take me. Done journeyman save before but always played them with no 'set' goals in mind other than the journey so this will be a fun twist.

So I present my day one profile :

spacer.png

So after a fairly short search where I wanted to start somewhere less travelled by myself in all my previous FM games I am the newly announced manager of the recently relegated Marumo Gallants FC

spacer.png

Can I go slightly better than my media prediction of 4th and get us into the the playoffs between 2nd and 3rd to bring back top flight action to the Dr. Rantlai Petrus Molemela Stadium at the first time of asking
