GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2015-16 I’ll now give you a summary of the various events/stats etc of the summer, with screenshots for the important ones for my YPs. **There were the usual good results in the Player of the Year as well as the Young Player of the Year awards. **But I was disappointingly but predictably 2nd for a second consecutive year. **Northern Ireland QUALIFIED FOR EURO 2016!! However, despite making his Northern Ireland debut in a friendly against Greece, Miskimmon didn’t make the squad, and they bowed out in the Group Phase, losing to all three of Germany, Spain and Turkey in the clear “group of death”. Spain’s surprise defeat to Turkey was the only other result in the group, so Germany qualified behind Turkey after drawing against both their main rivals. Ireland, who also qualified, managed a famous draw with Holland but lost to Russia before another draw against Sweden saw them out, too. **England’s group threw up some really bizarre results, leaving all four teams on 4 points. But England were not destined to retain the trophy. The winner will be announced at the top of my next post, as my new season is about to get underway, before the Euros are finished, so I want to get the post done! **As mentioned earlier, Whoriskey was named the Linfield fans’ player of the season. **Every single YP was named in the team of the season. **Nelson became the seventh YP in the Historical Team, meaning that every YP who’s played more than one season has made it into the side. **The attendance record was broken again. **He may not have been the player of the season, but Mark Miskimmon broke the Average Rating record. Although if you read that post, it seems to me that his previous record was better as he played more games. I'm guessing it's like 7.352 instead of 7.351?? And finally.... … The new YP is... YP9 Mark Bell The hardest decision to make in years. But I went with my assistant this year. As I was finding it hard, I thought I might as well trust him as is JPP is 18. Bell is exactly what Nelson was when he came up, and with a decent AMR on the books, who is starting to rival Mullan, Whoriskey and Miskimmon for the mantle of biggest player, Bell’s chances might be a bit limited. We’ll see. We were flooded with full-backs this year, 5 of them coming through. But Bell was definitely one of the best, and I might end up getting an injury or two on the right this year in which case he’ll get some more chances. If nothing else, it’s competition for Nelson. But I wish my academy would realise which players I need on a year on year basis and provide appropriately! Think I'll try to retrain Nelson as a D/MC so that I can use him to plug just about any gap in the team....Bell has more pace and so will be better on the side... Mark Bell: Initial Profile. His technique and work rate are both 13, by the way – sorry, I’ve just noticed that when I’m on my laptop these don’t show. If there are any screenshots you’d like to have clarified regarding those two attributes, just ask!

Has he made an announcement about retiring yet? How long is left on his current contract? Not sure, I am at work but will check tonight. No announcement about retirement but he does want to become a coach and hopefully ass man. I was lucky to get my son just as my team became successful and looks like hamilton has to. The only thing that could stop him having a great career is having the motivation to play for another 20 seasons
DodgeeD
It's always hard to leave a save when one of the challenges is completed, especially when you are attached to a player. My Yalovaspor team have won the champions league now but Prodigy 8 is still just reaching his prime and the new guy had a great first season so I want to develop their careers more but I'm itching to get going with a new save too. mag man
In previous years I have played a challenge and then when done gone on to have a game with Chelsea but not really happened this year because of the youth project. I also no longer have the time I used to where I could play a season in 2 days it now takes me between a week and two weeks.

GreyedOutMan
Hey guys does anyone know the correct codes for linfield and the Irish Premier League? I want to get a background shot of Windsor Park into my game so that I can have it behind my games at home, just gives me a bit more realism rather than always seeing English grounds. Currently it's saved under C:\...\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\graphics\pictures\backgrounds\nir\premier. But that was just a guess. Any ideas? Would appreciate it

GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2016-17 Season Report Before Euro 2016 was over, we were drawn against Sloboda Tuzla of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Europa League 2nd qualifying round. Holland beat Germany in the final to become European Champions...wait for it...you guessed it! They beat the Germans on PENALTIES!! That was nice. Stuart Pearce lost his job as England manager, though. Mourinho got the Italy job, becoming their fifth manager since the game started, after Lippi, Mancini, Ancelotti and Spalletti. If none of those names could last more than a couple of years.... Bizarrely, it was Tony Mowbray who got the England job. He’d been unemployed after getting the sack from Spurs after just over 5 years which did include leading the Scum to their first league title in 54 years the season before – which seemed harsh, and probably made him a shoo-in as England manager – after all he was the last manager to win the league and he came as a free agent...how often does that happen?! So the first match of the season was to be at Windsor Park against Sloboda. And every single YP – nine of them now – was involved, including 7 of them starting. Miskelly and Tracey were on bench-warming duty. And, inevitably, the YPs opened the scoring – Whoriskey on this occasion, with the first Linfield goal of the season. Bell was a star performer in the first half, with the highest AvR of anyone except Whoriskey, whose rating was artificially inflated by the goal (this is one of the flaws,I think, in the FM game engine – a goal guarantees a rating of at least 7.2 from what I’ve seen, and usually adds at least 1 to the rating of the player in question, when the goal could have been just a tap-in...). However, Whoriskey justified his rating by adding a 2nd goal in the second period, and I took Bell off shortly afterwards with a debut rating of 7.8. An impressive start from the lad. We won the game 2-0. Thus, the season creaked into motion once again. The Europa League run came to a halt in the 4th qualifying round once again, but not before a significant transfer (see below!).But losing in the 4th round was no disgrace – it was, after all, to the mighty Villarreal! Of course, such a massive draw was a big big bonus. I was pretty pleased that I managed to get a goal at El Madrigal, despite conceding seven. The second leg was much more even, Doyle scored in the first half, after which the score on the night was 1-1. Stott then put us ahead on the night in the 2nd half. Even just that win would be a massive boost to the team, no matter the 7-1 defeat in the first leg. I imagine it gives your team a huge reputation boost at the level we’re at? And we all know (thanks to the master, KIP!) how important reputation is in FM. Some heroic keeping by stand-in Boldrini ensured that we picked up an absolutely historic victory. We were out of the competition, but that win probably did more for our reputation than an aggregate victory over fellow European minnows...not to mention a boost to the bank balance of close to £1m! That was mainly due to an attendance which beat the previous record, set against CSKA Moscow, by just 20! January saw a very exciting moment – my first million-pound signing! A 17 year old right back called Gary Hudson who immediately set the world alight with some wonderful performances. It seemed money well spent, especially considering that its likely I could sell him off in 5-10 years for a hefty profit. Trophy number 14 came in February with the League Cup. But the league season was going fantastically well. A knockout blow against Distillery in the Irish Cup Quarter-Final was almost a relief as we closed in on our first championship. For ages we kept pace with Glens, four points behind them with two games in hand. We kept it that way until the 2nd of our games in hand when a draw with Carrick meant that going into the split we were level on points. Our goal difference, however, was +62 compared to Glentoran’s of +38. All we needed to do was match their results. But of course, the fixtures computer threw up Glentoran v Linfield as the very next game. We went 1-0 down but two red cards meant that the 2-1 defeat was actually a decent result as we could easily have shipped far more. For the first time, the title was out of our hands. It seemed our best chance of a title for years had slipped out from beneath our fingers. There was another twist. Glens drew their penultimate game against Glenavon. Unfortunately, it was a day of two games and no goals in the Premier League as we also failed to break the deadlock against Ballymena despite raining in 25 shots (albeit only three on target), and once again we had a last day finish. Glens only needed a single point this time, so it wasn’t quite so exciting. Which I suppose had the benefit of making this a much shorter post! Unfortunately there was no grandstand finish – Glens ruined everyone’s fun by scoring in the fifth minute and by the 36th minute it was all over as they scored a 2nd. We won the game at a canter against Glenavon, but I was left frustrated once again. Will it ever happen? This is starting to feel like an endless journey...and I’ve made a decision to sacrifice the Europa League money next season and play a reserve team in my first round so that I can focus on finally winning a title. Initial Profile – no screenshot, sorry! 2008-09: Linfield 2008-9: Crumlin Star 2009-10...and his profile a few weeks after the season ended but with the stats from the early stages of the next season unfortunately. 2010-11 2011-12 2012-13 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 Summary Becoming the leading striker for the side now, overtaking Miskimmon. There was a period in Jan/Feb where he scored 7 goals in 5 games at an AvR of 8.05. His league record lags behind his overall – he scored his 75th career league goal in his 300th league appearance. This was his best season so far, scoring 3 more goals than last year, one more assist and his AvR jumped by 0.05. He’s a genuine Linfield legend now, and although he’s not yet listen as a “favoured personnel”, “icon”or “legend”, it surely cant be far away. He’ll make it to 500 in 2019, or possibly late 2018. Oh and he was 2nd top goalscorer in the league this season, a big landmark for him. Only 2 goals behind Gregg Russell of Glentoran. Bizarrely, the 3rd place in that list went to Aaron Callaghan, my right-sided centre back!! Never seen that many goals from a central defender before. Milwall were the club chosen as they didn’t have any other senior goalkeepers so I figured that he’d get some first team action and might still make it to 1000 appearances, albeit not for me. Unlike Miskelly, this is likely to be the end of his Linfield career as Rodrigues will now have the chance to make the position his. His season in League One was a complete disaster – he conceded 50 goals in 37 games, and though he did manage 10 clean sheets, he also conceded 20 fouls! He’d never before conceded more than a single foul in a season! Still – only 1 yellow card and if Millwall keep faith with him perhaps he will be more comfortable at this level next season. GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2016-17 YP4: David Mullan – Summer 2017 Update. Initial Profile 2011-12 2012-13 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 Summary Picked up yet another injury against Sloboda which kept him out for 6 weeks around the start of the season. Can probably be written off in terms of getting to 1000 now because it looks like he’ll keep picking up these medium-term injuries, but I suppose you never know, and he’s a superb player so he’ll keep his place on merit for many years to come anyway. He got extended leave over Christmas due to over-exertion and constant transfer speculation causing unrest. It really didn’t look likely that I could hang on to him much longer, although another injury, this time a broken leg that will keep him out until at least September, will probably mean he’ll spend at least one more year at Linfield. Just hope his broken leg doesn’t hamper him in years to come. Another superb season on the pitch, for sure. GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2016-17 YP6: Ryan Whoriskey – Summer 2017 Update. Initial Profile 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 Summary Was constantly murmuring, understandably, about his need to find a bigger club. He’s outgrown Linfield now and I cant hope to get more than another season out of him, if that, I don’t think. He’s improved every season, and this season was a big jump. A massive 18 goals is quite absurd for a central midfielder really, but it does reflect his talent. He’s a gem, and unlike Mullan his value has stayed at rock bottom (£40k), so I should be able to hold on to him at least for now. He is one of only two players who is on course to hit 1000 in only 20 years. Initial Profile 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 Summary Had a very similar season – keeps up the high standard. The new YP was in his position and we had a couple of decent right wingers which cut down the number of appearances a bit although he tended to take precedence. He’s the other player who is on target for 1000 appearance in just 20 years. GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2016-17 YP8: Nuno Rodrigues – Summer 2017 Update. Initial Profile 2015-16 2016-17 Summary Equalled the Liinfield clean sheet record in January, but a Cliftonville goal at Windsor Park cruelly denied him that acoolade. He’d gone 636 minutes, over 10 hours, without conceding. He played the same number of games this season, conceded 13 goals less and kept 6 more clean sheets. However, his AvR has stayed around the same, which rather suggests to me that it’s the defence rather than the ‘keeper making the difference there... I’ve now signed a really good young Welsh stopper so Rodrigues will face stiff competition next year. GreyedOutMan
LINFIELD – SEASON 2016-17 I’ll now give you a summary of the various events/stats etc of the summer, with screenshots for the important ones for my YPs. **Bell won the Young Player of the Year Award. Nelson was 3rd. **As usual, the Manager of the Year went to Glens’ manager, with me in 2nd. **The Mighty Wolves fell at the final hurdle in the Champions’ League. My how the game changes in a short time... **Aswell as winning Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year respectively, Bell had more assists than anyone else in the league, Mullan had the highest AvR. **Mullan was voted the Linfield fans’ player of the year. **Seven YPs were named in the Linfield team of the year. **No new YPs were inducted into the historical XI but six kept their places: Doyle, Tracey, Mullan, Malone, Whoriskey and Nelson. **Once again the attendance average was broken, this time by over 300 to 4058. **Mullan’s 7.40 AvR was a new record – ostensibly equalling Miskimmon’s previous record, but I’m guessing its just a bit higher... And finally.... … The new YP is... YP10 Gareth Lennon Tough decision, especially as we already have Malone in centre-back and we do have some good players. But this was the recommendation and he did appear to be one of the best. There was a ‘keeper but that’s a position that we’re even more crowded in, so I went for Lennon. This is his initial profile. By the end of the season he was out of the youth teams altogether and a regular in the matchday squad. Indeed, he earned his spot on the subs bench for the Champions League final on merit. If I continue this save now the challenge is complete, it will be to see how good he will get. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired soon.
DodgeeD
Is this the first year with facilities at the maximum level? The ClubTraining and youth facilites are now at the maximum level and we have had a youth academy since 2019. That should answer your question. mag man
I just read it as you had a youth academy since 2019 not both
DodgeeD
No worries - maybe I should make it clearer Question now is whether or not to continue with this save? I have another save on the go for rancer's challenge in Australia but the A-League clubs don't produce their own regens so there's nothing to report in here. Prodigy 15 makes me want to continue this save but I had a couple of promising looking players coming through in Mexico too. I'll go back to one of those games to keep me going until FM10 is out but I'm undecided as to which one...
GreyedOutMan
How many seasons do you think you can get through before FM10 is out? If you can get through his whole career, I'd go for it.... Think Linfield will probably take me through till FM10 though the plan has been to start a new Arsenal save with an updated DB - I've been editing all the transfers in all summer!!! We'll see how I feel on September 1st I suppose. Are people enjoying my YP updates?

I would prefer to read about Linfield than Arsenal
GreyedOutMan
Oh well the Arsenal game would just be a straight game - I wouldnt do this with Arsenal as I'm not good enough to have any significant success playing this way and I couldnt bear to see Arsenal doing really badly! Think I'll continue with this until FM10, or at least until I get bored Either way you've got at least another month of it! Any ideas on how I could make the posts better/shorter or whatever? They feel really long now! Also - dont expect this regularity to continue - I've been particularly addicted in the last few days in a way I havent been since CM days. Also, its a lot easier when I'm on holiday It will, unfortunately, slow down...
hamilton162
I'd cut down on the summary for each player from a paragraph to a line or two. Just my opinion though
GreyedOutMan
Hmm - thing is thats not really what takes up the space or time though, is it? I mean I write those paragraphs usually while the season is being played, and they're not difficult to write. Also - they're not usually paragraphs - if you look back, they're often just lines if not a lot has happened to them of note...
DodgeeD
How many seasons do you think you can get through before FM10 is out? If you can get through his whole career, I'd go for it.... It all depends on whether or not I can bring one of my other saves to a conclusion before the summer hols. As for you, I agree with mag man - it's more enjoyable following your youth development with a club like Linfield than Arsenal.
GreyedOutMan
Yeah - i wouldnt be doing this with Arsenal. What do you mean by a conclusion?? FM doesnt end...

GreyedOutMan
I guess - perhaps in Dafuge's challenge! That looks HARD! Anyway, looks like my next post will be rather upbeat after, it appears, a really spectacular season. Watch this space....it's one of those fly-by seasons so should be posted later tonight I hope.
