Josué came through the ranks at the end of just my second season in charge at Estudiantes Santander. The coaches said he had great potential but he had a bit of work to do to reach it. The presence of 4 experienced central midfielders in the squad limited his chances initially, as did our status at the time of 1st Division strugglers (no ‘easy’ games back in those days ;)). Although he was progressing well and I had plans for him, Ramos became frustrated with competition for places towards the end of the 2014/15 season and started to skip training and his development seemded to stall. As a result, I accepted an offer for him from Querétaro at the end of the season and I thought that was that. The drop down a division did him good though as he benefitted from regular first team football and helped his team get promoted. It wasn’t long before bigger teams started to make offers and I tried to re-sign him in 2019 but he opted for America (MEX) instead. He became a fan favourite there but arrived just as they were being replaced as the dominant force in Mexico (by us no less :D) and he again became unsettled. Despite our differences earlier in his career, I was still amongst his favoured personnel and persuaded him to come back home at the start of the 2021/22 season. He then finally got the medals he had been searching for – no fewer than 10 in 2 years in fact! He also benefitted from my appointment as Mexico manager (despite media claims that he wasn’t good enough) and scored on his debut against Croatia in 2022. He would have joined our World Cup winning squad too but an injury at the end of the season kept him out. He got to make up for it a year later with a winner’s medal at the Gold Cup. Josué was easily the best of my FM09 prodigies and would have got the chance for many more medals had his career not been cruelly cut short by the release of FM10!

Legend

A one club legend. 22 Seasons playing for Maidstone at the very top level. My son came through into the youth team just as Maidstone were emerging as a force in English football. He showed some remarkable leadership skills and was quickly given the captains armband. A gifted passer at his peak he was often seen as a deep lying playmaker pulling the strings in the formidable Maidstone team. The stats back this up, he regularly topped the assists tables and would create upwards of 20 goals a season.

He had a relatively short England career picking up 36 caps but in that time there was a world cup and a european championship win. Domestically he picked medals up everywhere, the 15 premier league and champions league medals are the envy of many players.

A true legend of the game and his presence was often missed on the pitch when he was injured/suspended.
