smp20
A very quick update from me. We came close to winning the league, indeed before a 75th minute goal from Derry in the final game we were top! I am absolutely fuming that we lost the cup final 4-0 to Waterford. dllu
1. To be fair, real Budweiser is a fine beer. It's only the American copy that's a watered down mixture of horse **** and dish water. 2. There is actually a club in the Czech Second Division called Dynamo Ceske Budejovice - from the town (German name: Budweis) that the beer is from. smp20
Youth Intake 2021 A 'golden generation' that actually has a long way to get to first team level. Traynor is the pick of the bunch, while left wingers Keegan and Kelly have high potential but aren't ready to add to the first team yet. I'm hopeful about Holohan; he's a big strapping centre half who if he gets a bit quicker will be an asset to the first team.
smp20
League Table ~ Domestic Cups ~ Europa League ~ Facilities ~ Finances ~ Player Stats 4th time of asking and we won the league . Helped by the fact that Cork, Dundalk and Derry all had off seasons and we did in dramatic style by coming back from 2 behind to draw with Dundalk and clinch the title from our fierce rivals Shamrock on goal difference. We had a few poor spells this season, but I'm delighted we've managed to bag the title. We also won 2 of the 3 cups as well, completing a domestic treble. I'm pretty sure that the 24-0 aggregate win against Vikungur is my biggest ever agg win - our 2nd string won 12-0 away which was astonishing! Very happy to thump Beitar Jerusalem (scummy team) at our place and we came close against Bilbao in the Dublin vs Basque Country tie. Overall a great season, which also acted as a transition season for some of our younger players overtaking the old guard. Our facilities haven't had any improvements, but our youth setup is at the highest level possible. As such, it's costing us a fair whack each month (£140k I think) so we're not in the best financial position. Now we've got into CL qualifying I hope the money we can get from Europe is better. Would be amazing to (half) fill the Aviva against a big side!
smp20
Squad Overview November 2021 Goalkeepers Maher took over as our first choice keeper from Barry Murphy in the 2nd season and has slowly improved as a keeper to become one of the best in the league. Likely to be 1st choice for years to come unless we get an exceptional talent through the intakes. Browne is our 2nd choice and has done very well when called upon. We have a couple of youngsters in the youth ranks with better potential, but for now Browne will remain as our number 2. Full Backs Madden has been our first choice right back since the start and has done very well for us bombing forward. At 33 now I expect him to start declining physically and I've already been getting ready to phase his understudy in. Evans is our current best prospect at right back and he's had some first team experience last season to be ready to overtake the position from Madden. He lacks technical ability, but he's quick, determined and aggressive. Desmond has become our first choice left back after starting as a centre back for us. He's very well rounded and a key player. He fills in at centre back whenever needed. Bermingham is a club stalwart who had his testimonial in the last pre-season. He's lost his pace and as such is no more than left back cover now, but was a key player in previous season. Barker provides cover for both flanks, though doesn't have the attacking capability of the other options. Centre Backs Prendergast has become a key figure in the heart of our defence after a couple of seasons of sturdy performances. He's not a great talent, but he's well rounded enough to perform consistently in the league. Hunter is our best prospect and has become our first choice partner of Prendergast, though his performances at centre back haven't been very convincing. I expect him to improve both attributes and performance wise next season. Leahy is now our 4th choice centre back, Desmond will play if Prendergast or Hunter are not available, but he's fairly solid. Lacks pace. Centre Mids Brennan is the golden boy of Irish football. He's been outstanding since coming through the youth ranks and we will do well to keep hold of him for much longer. Tierney has been a key performer ever since coming in the youth intake and although his development has leveled out a bit, he's still a key starter for us. Garvan comes with a lot of high level experience in England and is our captain. His physical ability is going downhill, so we will have to be ready to replace him as first choice next season. Mooney is the obvious replacement in the first 11 for Garvan, though it will mean changing our shape a little. He's a very exciting prospect who is unfortunate to be in the shadow of James Brennan. Kelly was a key first teamer in the first 3 seasons but of course has been usurped by Brennan. Hes a decent backup option if we need him. A typical anchor man, who was first choice in the first season and is now the ultimate back up if we need a pure defensive midfielder or have injuries. Wide Players Clarke had a poor season by his standards but his previous form has cemented him as a club legend. He's an ideal option for an Inside Forward role on the left side. Connor started out as a pure left winger but after tutoring and retraining as a right winger he is now a key starter as a right sided inside forward. He's not not great attacking attributes, but his pace makes him dangerous. Markey took over as first choice from Conal Byrne (now U19s) when he lost his pace but is now no more than a backup option. Doona is used as an impact sub if we need an injection of pace; he offers very little other than that. Strikers Doherty is turning into a very good poacher and I fully expect him to go on to become a club legend. This was his first season as starter and I fully expect him to keep on scoring more and more goals each season. Fagan scored 28, 19 and 20 goals in the last 3 season but a poor attitude, injuries and pace decline he crushed him. He will be leaving in the next month. While Mark Traynor spends a season developing in the U19s, Egan is going to be our 2nd choice striker next season. He's well rounded physically; if he was taller he'd be a good TM. smp20
This is a great deal for the club. Good money up top, we've got him back on loan for 2 seasons and if Spurs sell him on we get 50% of that. This shows what a special talent he is, could become an Irish all-time great? You're 18 now...lay off the Guinness James.
