June 21st: England v Cameroon: World Cup 2010 Group Stage (Ellis Park, Johannesburg)

After the result against Saudi Arabia I told my players I wanted more of the same and they did just that as we controlled Cameroon who were still reeling from thrashing Ireland had given them. On the 13th minute we should of gone a goal up but Owen fluffed his effort when it was easier to score. We continued to pile forward and on the 27th minute we had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside by the assistant referee. The pressure was constant but on the 34th minute we went a goal behind as Eto’o fired in the ball after they countered an attack by us.

The second half was again all us as we continued to pile forward but we just couldn’t get past the Cameroon defence and we ended up losing a game we should of won easily.

June 25th: England v Rep.Ireland: World Cup Group Stage (Johannesburg Stadium, Johannesburg)

We knew what we had to do in the game, we had to get a result against the Irish and hope Cameroon didn’t thrash Saudi Arabia.

The Irish started the better as they kept possession away from us and on the 17th minute we should of gone a goal down but the Irish attack was thwarted by the brilliance of Robinson. Ten minutes later they came close again but Robinson again denied them. The Irish pressure was immense but we managed to hold onto the half time whistle. During the interval I told my players I wanted them to attack more and keep hold of the damn ball.

The second half was much the same with the Irish dominating play. We weren’t creating much and on the 71st minute I had to change something so I brought Lampard on for Walcott and Ashton for Carrick. I changed the formation to a 4-3-3. It looked as though it wasn’t working as we still struggled to break them down but on the 88th minute we got a slice of luck as the Irish keeper fluffed a clearance and Rooney volleyed home the ball to give us a vital victory.

June 29th: England v Ivory Coast; World Cup 2010 2nd Round (Johannesburg Stadium, Johannesburg)

My players started the better as we controlled much the opening play, but it was Ivory Coast scored first as Drogba fired past Robinson to give them the vital lead. My players however responded well as we controlled the remainder of the half with some excellent play. On the half hour we came close to the equaliser as Rooney fired into the hands of the keeper but it was easier for him to score. It looked like it was going to be one of those days as we peppered the goal with effort after effort but we failed to score in the first half.

The second half started well for us as six minutes in we got the goal we deserved as Walcott fired in from the edge of the area. This seemed to lift my players and we controlled the game much more than before, yet we couldn’t fire the ball into the net. On the stroke of full time we lost the game as Drogba fired in from an offside position. I was livid that the assistant referee didn’t raise his flag and his error had cost my team the chance of glory.

Italy have won the World Cup for the second time running

Despite performing so poorly in the World Cup the FA have given me the chance to carry on pending on a good result in Euro 2012.

September 9th; After the disappointment of the World Cup I decided a change of captain was called for and because of this I made Wayne Rooney captain and Rio Ferdinand as his vice captain. Much of the press were surprised by this but as I told them I wanted someone who was a consistent performer and had the passion required to be captain.

September 11th: England v Slovakia; Euro 2012 Qualifier

As expected we controlled the game and it didn't take long for us to get on the scoreboard as Owen fired in from a long ball by J.Cole. Eight minutes later we had another chance to score as Wright-Phillips ran half the length of the pitch but his final effort wasn't as good as the run and the ball went just wide of the upright. Despite our constant pressure we failed to add to our tally in the first half.

The second half was only two minutes old when Rooney doubled our lead with a header from Walcott's cross. On the 56th minute we conceded a silly goal as a mix up between Terry and Robinson let Mirtal fire in to make the score 2-1. A minute later I had to replace Walcott after he picked up a slight knock, Giles Barnes was his replacement coming on for his England debut. On the 64th minute Slovakia scored again as Sapara managed to put the ball into his own net after trying to clear a Hargreaves cross. My players started to control the second half and on the 79th minute we added a further goal as Rooney fired in his second of the game to cap a brilliant performance as Captain. With the game killed off my players began to relax and on the 90th minute we added a final goal as Barnes fires in on his debut.

September 15th: Faroe Islands v England; Euro 2012 Qualifier (Torsvoller Tors Havn)

We were expected to win this game comfortably but my players seemed to struggle on the poor pitch and with the ten man defence of the opposition. We did very little in the way of attacking in the first half but on the half hour we had our only real chance of the half as Owen fired wide of the upright when it was easier to score.

The second half saw Ashton coming on for Owen and Barnes coming on for Walcott. The substitution paid dividends as on the 55th minute we went into the lead as Barnes made it two goals in his first two games for England. My players then began to pull there fingers out and we started to pound the Fare’s goals with shot after shot. For all the pressure we failed to score and had to put up with a very disappointing 1-0 win. But Three points are three points.
