I decided to be brave and read the latest from you, Mark. I was half-expecting that you'd been sacked by England and were now in charge of St Kitts & Nevis or someone like that after the shock of your demise in your Manchester United story.

February 5th: England v Uganda; Friendly (Old Trafford)

I wanted my players to use this game as some shooting practise and they did just that as on the 7th minute we went into the lead as Owen fired in for us, three minutes later we were two goals up as Brandy did the honours from the edge of the area. Uganda hadn't really touched the ball as of yet and on the 21st minute we went a further goal up with Brandy grabbing his second goal of the game. It was a good game for the fans as we controlled like we should of done. Just after the half hour we scored our next goal with Owen firing in brilliantly. On the 35th minute goal number five went in as Hargreaves got in on the scoring act. We were all over Uganda but didn't add another goal in the first half. During the interval I made several changes with Amos, Fox, Welbeck, Baxter and Sharp all coming on.

The second half was only four minutes old when Owen grabbed his hat trick with a curling effort which the Uganda keeper helpless against it. Seven minutes later our final goal went into the net as Barnes ran clear of the defence and slid the ball past the keeper. The scoring wasn't over with yet as on the 61st minute Uganda got on the score sheet with Sserumagga firing past Amos after a slip by Davies.

March 26th: England v Venezuela; Friendly (Old Trafford)

The final game before the World Cup and my players looked up for it. We started the better and on the 12th minute we went into the lead as Owen continued from the last match with a fine individual goal. Owen was the star of the show as he dictated the game and it was on the 31st minute he got his next goal as he ran onto a Rooney through ball to fire past the South American keeper. Four minutes later midfielder Young fired in after Owen made so much space for him. It was looking good for us as we piled the pressure on Venezuela.

The second half saw a few changes again as I wanted to see my other players and despite the divide in class we dominated the game but despite this we only added one more goal in the game as Rooney fired in five minutes from time to give us a good 4-0 victory.

England 4 Owen 12, 31, Young 35, Rooney 85

June 3rd: The odds for the World Cup have been released and we have been quoted at 2-1 joint favourites with Italy and Brazil, Argentina 5-2, France 3-1 and Germany 4-1

June 9th: Sweden 3-1 Mexico, Brazil 2-1 Australia, Romania 0-0 France

June 10th: England v Russia: World Cup 2014 Group Stage (Parque De Stadia, Uberlandia (MG))

We were the better team as the Russians struggled to get more than a couple of passes together. On the 12th minute we had the first chance of the game with Downing firing wide of the upright. Three minutes later though we lost Walcott to injury after receiving a dead leg. Eagles came on for him. My players carried on piling forward and just before the half hour we went into the lead as Owen rattled the ball in off the upright but his goal was ruled out for a foul on the keeper.

The second half started well for us as within two minutes we went a goal up as Barnes fired in a screamer from 30 yards. It was the perfect start to the half and we continued the pressure as we pressurised the Russian defence. However our game changed on the 70th minute as we were reduced to ten men after Davies was sent off for a two footed lunge. Despite being down to ten men we carried on our dominance and we grabbed three points.

Great win mate. Recently read this story from start to finish, and it was a really good read. I was kept interested the entire team. It's a vastly different team now to what I would think England's line-up come 2014 WOrld CUp. I also loved WAles run in South Africa. Something I never thought would happen. Well done, great story and I'll be reading until the very end.

  • 3 weeks later...

June 15th: England v Iraq: World Cup 2014 Group Stage (Castelao, Fortalez (CE))

The perfect start saw us a goal up on the second minute as Rooney fired in a screamer from the edge of the area. Ten minutes later we had the next chance as Hargreaves headed towards goal from a Barnes corner. On the 22nd minute we went two goals up as Rooney doubled his tally for the game. We were all over the defence of Iraq and on the half hour we should of gone further into the lead but Owen managed to miss an open goal.

The second half was much the same as we continued to pressurise the Iraq defence but on the 51st minute we had Foster to thank as he saved well from the Iraq attack. Five minutes later we grabbed the third goal as Rooney fired in his hat trick. We carried on piling forward but we just couldn't add to our tally and kept up our 100% record.

June 20th: England v Paraguay: World Cup 2014 Group Stage (Fonte Nova Salvador (BA))

We began poorly as on the 4th minute we went behind but luckily for us the referees assistant raised his flag for offside. Paraguay then came close again as they rattled our upright from 20 yards. However on the 20th minute we managed to grab the first goal of the game as Owen was hacked down in the area. Downing stepped up for the penalty and fired it brilliantly into the bottom corner of the net. A minutes later though we had to replace Barnes after receiving a knock to the leg. Paraguay carried on the pressure and it wasn't long till they managed to grab the equaliser with Mareco firing past Foster.

The second half wasn't much of a half as we struggled to get going and luckily for us so was Paraguay. The half was nothing more than shambolic as neither team could really manage to string more than a couple of passes together.

June 24th: England v Ghana: World Cup 2014 Second Round (Manegueirzao, Belem (PA))

We started a lot better in this game as we controlled the African team with ease. We had the first effort on the 17th minute as Rooney ran clear of the defence to fire just wide of the upright. Seven minutes later we had the next chance of the game and Owens fired just wide of the post. My team were just dominant and on the half hour we went into the lead as Rooney fired into the net but his effort was ruled out for offside by the assistant referee. Just before the half time interval we went into the lead again as Owen rifled home brilliantly.

The second half was much the same as we controlled all aspects of the game and on the 58th minute we doubled the lead as Brandy ran clear of the defence to slide past the keeper. Our pressure was immense but we had to wait till the 83rd minute to get the next goal as Brandy fired in from the edge of the area.

We began the better team and it wasn't long till we had recorded our first chance as Owen rattled the crossbar after the Brazilian defence let him run clear. On the 13th minute we grabbed the first goal as captain Rooney volleyed home Downings cross. However after the goal my players seemed to relax too much and the Brazilians started to get a grip of the game. On the 23rd minute they had there first effort of the game with a rasping effort which Foster managed to save well. Ten minutes later we had Richards to thank as he blocked another effort. It was becoming one way traffic as the Brazilians controlled much of the play. Just before the half time whistle we had Foster to thank again for a world class save.

I changed the formation to a 4-4-1-1 with Rooney moving into midfield of need be.

It seemed to work at first as we stemmed the Brazilian attack. It was Brazil though who had the first effort of the half as they fired towards goal on the 59th minute but Foster was again there to deny them. Despite us getting battered throughout the half we managed to get the second goal as Eagles sprinted past the defence to slot home and send us into the semi finals

July 1st: England v Germany: World Cup 2014 Semi Final (Estadio Caste Lao, Sao Luis (MA))

A brilliant start saw us a goal up within the first minute as Owen capitalised on an error by the German keeper. After the goal though Germany upped there pace some more and they piled forward and on the 14th minute we had Foster to thank for pulling of a great save from the German attack. On the 20th minute we had the next chance of the game as Owen r an onto a Rooney through ball but his effort went just wide much to the relief of the German defence. Just after the half hour the next goal was scored as Rooney headed home Walcott’s cross to put us into a commanding 2-0 lead.

The second half started well for us as within five minutes we added goal number three as Rooney fired in from the edge of the area. My players were looking very confident and on the 58th minute we should of gone a further goal up but Owens effort went just over. Three minutes later Germanys game went from bad to worse as Muller was sent for a second yellow card. My players took full advantage of this as we battered the Germans and on the 82nd minute we made them pay as Rooney completed his hat trick and sent us into the World Cup Final.

July 6th: England v France; World Cup 2014 Final (Maracana, Rio de Janero (RJ))

We got off to a terrible start as straight from kick off the French went a goal up as Henry ran straight through my defence and fired past Foster. I was furious with my team. France then came close again to scoring but Henrys effort was diverted wide of the goal by Ferdinand’s left boot. On the 12th minute though we managed to grab the equaliser with our first attack of the game with Owen doing the honours. Our joy though was short lived as seven minutes later we conceded another goal as Malbranque fired past Foster with ease. On the 27th minute we had the next chance as Walcott fired just over from 25 yards. The game was becoming very open and it wasn't long till France were on the attack again as Nasri fired towards goal but luckily for us the ball went just wide.

During the interval I told my players we needed to press more and take the game to the French.

The second half was very open as both teams attacked. We had the first effort of the half as Brandy fired towards goal but his effort went straight into the keepers arms. France then came close on the hour with a stunning effort from Ribery but his shot was tipped over by Foster. Despite all the attacking football there was no more goals and we ended up losing the World Cup final.

What could I say to my players after they lost the biggest game of there lives, but we should learn from this defeat and hopefully this is the start of a good period of form for my players.
