Man City Supporter
December 31st Welsh SuperLeague Update League Table At the half-way stage, Multi Scorgasms have taken the lead, but Sheep Spankers are right behind them. Blue Army occupy the Inter-Toto spot, and Newfield, Llandrindod and Rhyl Pheonix are right behind them. Down at the bottom, Arkitekt Athletic FC and The Wizards are in the relegation zone, five points off 16th placed Nightmare. There's still quite a few games left, but it looks like avoiding relegation is going to be a three horse race League Table Player Stats Team Stats European Report UEFA Cup 1st Round 1st Leg Winners FC v. FC Bayern (The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff) The UEFA Cup Doesn't have a cool song. That annoys me. Following their defeat in Istanbul, Winners FC dropped down into the UEFA Cup. Their opponents to try to get into the Group Stage? Bayern München. The Winners would despretley want an advantage, cause there wasn't much chance of them scoring at the Allianz-Arena but would be hampered by the fact that they were playing one of the best teams in the world, a team atop it's own domestic league, and with one of the most expiranced goalkeepers in the business, Oliver Ka- *ahem* Jens Mustermann. The first half was a drab affair, and the referee did everyone a favour by blowing his whistle. The second half was initally all Bayern, and they looked to have got their reward in the 71st minute as Luke Wise held back Miroslav Klose in the area. 51000 home supporters inside the stadium looked on forlonley as Mark van Bommel stepped up to effectively end Winners FC's UEFA Cup hopes. Or would've done, had Hugo Lloris not guessed the direction he was to kick the ball and parryed it. The Millennium Stadium damn near exploded. The Welsh club kept up the defensive for the remainder of the match, gaining a very credible draw. Winners FC 0-0 FC Bayern|Match Stats Fiorentina v. Llandrindod (Artemio Franchi, Florence) Llandrindod headed to Wales to play Serie A's early leaders, Fiorentina. The Italian team would be hoping to gain a home advantage, and they attacked the Llandrindod goal straight from the off, and they got their reward in the 23rd minute, Montolivo getting the early goal. Almsot instantly they double their lead, Liédson getting the goal. The Fiorentina attack continued for the remainder of the half, and then immediately after half time Dario Dainelli headed the ball into the net for the Italian's third. The barrage continued for the rest of the game, the Llandrindod strikers barely getting a sniff, and at full time the Welsh club looked fairly certain not to be reaching the Group Stage. Fiorentina 3-0 Llandrindod|Match Stats Leverkusen v. Blue Army (BayArena, Leverkusen) Bayer 04 Leverkusen had started the season well, sitting 5th in the German First Division. They invited the WSL runners-up Blue Army to the BayArena to play. With both German and Welsh national managers in the stands, the German's would want a good start. They didn't get it - Wayne Rooney scored a fine strike from 30 yards out in the 3rd minute. Bayer evened it out in the 10th munite with Theofanish Gekas driving it in low, despite the protests from Aaron Ramsey. In the 38th minute Tranquillo Barnetta played the ball forward, and Theofanis Gekas was tripped by Jamie Cowley in the penaly area. Barbarez has no difficulty in striking the ball into the net. It was still 2-1 at half-time. Both sides had good chances, and in the 71st minute Sergio Agüero scored to even it out. There were no new goals in the 90th minute. "Der vierte Beamte hat mindestens vier Minute der zusätzlich Zeit angezeigt. 'R 'n bedwerydd swyddog wedi arddangos a minimum chan 'n bedwar chofnodion adiedig amsera. The fourth official has indicated a minimum of four minutes added time." Said the stadium announcer in the three languages. And that four minutes was enough, as 15 seconds from the end of the match a Leverkusen corner got to defender Sascha Dum who scored to give Leverkusen the win and the lead. Still, the Blue Army had 2 away goals, and so could easily get through. Leverkusen 3-2 Blue Army|Match Stats UEFA Cup 1st Round 2nd Leg Blue Army (2) v. Leverkusen (3) (The Boot Camp, Holyhead) Leverkusen came to Wales still 5th in the German First Division. They had one more goal than the Soldiers, but the Blue Army had an away goal. Could they turn it around? Both sides had chances in the first 15 minutes, but it was Jason Koumas who opened the scoring for the Army with a good shot from a tight angle. The Soldiers had the lead on away goals, and kept it until just before halftime, when Kießling somehow managed to head the ball over Casillas, scoring a fluke goal. Leverkusen more-or-less confirmed their presence in the next round with Kießling again scoring, this time with a cracking effort from 25 yards out. And that was it, the Blue Army were out of the UEFA Cup! Blue Army 1-2 Leverkusen|Match Stats Llandrindod (0) v. Fiorentina (3) (Llandrindod Arena, Llandrindod Wells) Llandrindod Wells had started the UEFA Cup proper badly, having lost 3:0 to Fiorentina, with many pundits doubting the second leg would be any better. Since the first leg, Fiorentina had fallen to second place in Serie A, Genoa taking over the top spot. In the first half all the attacks came from the Italians, and only some increadible goalkeeping from Scott Dove prevented them from piling more misery on the Wellers. The second half was more of the same- all attacks from Fiorentina, but Dove flying across his goal to prevent humiliation for the Wellers. Three goals was too much to ask of the Wellers, and, indeed, they failed to have a shot on goal through both legs and left the UEFA Cup Llandrindod 0-0 Llandrindod|Match Stats FC Bayern (0) v. Winners FC (0) (Allianz-Arena, München) At The Millennium Stadium, the WSL Champions had managed to hold the BundesLiga leaders to a draw, but it was clear from the start that there would be no repeat, Mark van Bommel scoring a cracking effort from 25 yards out in the seventh minute. A second goal came in the 27th minute, as Zé Roberto scored on the volley. From then on, all the forward play came fron Bayern, but they couldn't get a third to kill the game. However, Winners FC couldn't get a shot in, and the match finished with the European elimination of the final WSL team. FC Bayern 2-0 Winners FC|Match Stats The Sack Race Winners FC- The reigning champions of the WSL were not living up to expectations, and with the team sitting in 8th after 14 games, Lawrence Lazewski decided something had to be done about it and dismissed Fabio Capello on December 5th. Linked with the job were Marcello Lippi (unemployed- formerly of the Italian national team), Rafa Benitez (Liverpool), Javier Aguirre (At. Madrid) and Paul Evans (unemployed- formerly of Blue Army). On the 8th December Marcello Lippi was unveiled as the new boss at a press conference at The Millennium Stadium shortly before his first match in charge, against Multi Scorgasms. The Wizards-The Wizards had been predicted to struggle, but after 16 games no one had expected them to be sitting rock bottom. Dave Cookson had had enough and on 15th December sacked Filipão. Linked with the job were Rafa Benitez (Liverpool), Javier Aguirre (At. Madrid), Paul Evans (unemployed- formerly of Blue Army) and Fabio Capello (unemployed - formerly of Winners FC). On December 20th it was announced that Javier Aguirre had opted to move to the Wrexham Stadia from At. Madrid. Arkitekt Athletic FC-Arkitekt Athletic FC had been predicted to be relegation battlers, and by 15th December they were sitting in 17th. This wasn't good enough for chairman Ashley Teagle, who sacked Ian Holloway. Linked with the job were Rafa Benitez (Liverpool), Javier Aguirre (At. Madrid), Paul Evans (unemployed- formerly of Blue Army) and Fabio Capello (unemployed - formerly of Winners FC). On December 19, Fabio Capello was unveiled, returning to the WSL 14 days after being sacked from Winners FC. BP_Doosra
Nightmare finally signed a striker! Dean Ashton should do well and improve on our 10 goals. That should solve the issue of goals scored as before it was up to young John Fleck and he's out suspended. Gareth Barry doing well but injured so the signing of Ash Young really helps. Defense is solid with Buffon keeping us out of the relegation spots. Hopefully we can do well in the Challenge Cup with Buffon there to nullify the threat of Messi. BP_Doosra
Great update. Nice to see Nightmare FC found some form towards the end of the season with Aston getting us in the goals to push us up to 14th. All we need now is to buy another striker, central midfielder and left back, and we should do well next season. KUTGW.
