michaeltmurrayuk
Base Skins for Football Manager 2012 [if you are still using FM2011 see this thread: Football Manager 2011 Base Skins] As with Football Manager 2011 for you to make certain changes in Football Manager 2012 you need to create a new skin. So to make things easier for people I've put up some base skins that are identical to the default skins that come with the game, so you can add new files/graphics to these without messing up the original skins, and anything that isn't located in these new skin folders will be taken from the default locations within the game. At the moment there are four Base Skins to download: Base 2012 Skin - This is the Default Base Skin and is identical in appearance to the Default FM2012 Skin. Base 2012 BG Skin - This is the same as the Base 2012 Skin apart from the fact that it uses Kev Radestock's mod to re-enable Background Images. Base 2012 Dark Skin - This is the Default Dark Base Skin and is identical in appearance to the FM2012 Dark Skin. Base 2012 BG Dark Skin - This is the same as the Base 2012 Dark Skin apart from the fact that it uses Kev Radestock's mod to re-enable Background Images. Instructions: When you extract the file you have have downloaded you should have one folder called base2012 (or base2011bg for the Background Enabled Skin) and a readme.txt file Now copy the folder into your skins folder within your User Data Folder, by default this is: \My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\ If you cannot find your User Data folder, load up the game and go into the preferences -> General Screen, at the bottom of the screen should be a section headed User Data Folder, there should be a folder location listed in the box, this is the location of your user data folder, if you browse to that location on your computer (not through FM) there should be a skins folder located within that folder, this is where you put your downloaded skins. For example my User Data location is: F:\Michael\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\ as shown by the below screenshot: You can also change the location of your User Data folder if you wish or reset its location to default. (you’ll need to reload the game for it to take affect) If done right your skins folder should look something like this: When you load the game up if the skin cache is off any skins in the above folder should appear in the skins menu like the below image: To Replace Graphics To replace the following graphics you need to copy the graphics you have made or downloaded into the correct folders within the folder for the skin you are using: Gold Stars: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\icons\stars\gold Silver Stars: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\icons\stars\silver To get the 2D pitch icons (balls, nets, players) into the game they need to go into the following folders within your skin: Balls: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\pitch\balls\ Popups: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\pitch\popup\ Nets: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\pitch\nets\ Player Icons: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\<SKIN_NAME>\graphics\pitch\icons\kit\ For example if you were previously using the default FM12 skin and wanted to add some new 2D balls to the game you would add them to: My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\base2012\graphics\pitch\pitch\balls\ And select the Base 2012 skin in game, and your new ball would show on the 2D pitch. (NOTE: this is just for the classic 2D view, the 3D view graphics are controlled by different files) To edit the fonts The font settings for each skin are still controlled by the <SKIN_NAME> settings.xml file located inside the settings folder. For the Base 2012 skin this is the ‘\base2012\settings\base2012 settings.xml’ file For the base skins I have copied in the relevant coding for you to change the various text settings – style, size etc, you just need to open the <SKIN_NAME> settings.xml file scroll down to the bottom of the file until you see the TEXT SETTINGS text and edit the relevant code below that line. To change the actual font used by the game, you will first need to copy the relevant font file into the fonts folder for your skin and then change the font name in the settings file. To edit the game colours (including attribute colours) The colour settings for each skin are still controlled by the <SKIN_NAME> settings.xml file located inside the settings folder. For the Base 2012 skin this is the ‘\base2012\settings\base2012 settings.xml’ file For the base skins I have copied in the relevant coding for you to change the various colours used by the skin – you just need to open the <SKIN_NAME> settings.xml file and locate the relevant line for the colour setting you wish to change – the colour names and comments should explain what the majority of the colours control. For example, attribute colours are listed underneath the heading <!-- profile attribute colours -->. The colours are declared in RGB values, that range from 0-255 where Red=255 Green=255 Blue=255 is white and Red=0 Green=0 Blue=0 is black. To locate the RGB value of a colour you want to use you can either use a image editing program to obtain the RGB Value of the colour or type rgb values into google and it will bring up several websites that list the RGB Values for various colours. You can also use the new ingame colour chooser to change the some colours, however for this to function you need to ensure you have turned on the skin cache, To edit the Attribute Threshold To edit the Attribute thresholds you need to edit the ‘player attributes panel.xml’ (for players) and ‘non player profile.xml’ (non-players) files that I have included in the panels folder for each of the base skins. The code you need to change is this, which should appear at the top of the file: <!-- attribute colouring --> <integer id="exca" value="16" /> <!-- excellent threshold --> <integer id="excn" value="11" /> <!-- normal threshold --> <integer id="excl" value="6" /> <!-- low threshold --> To Edit the Transparency of the Background Overlay for the Background Skins If you find the default transparency of the graphics for the Background Base Skins isn't to your liking you can adjust it by editing the graphics located in the \graphics\bgoverlay\ folder, you just need to alter the transparency of each graphic until you are happy. If you find the overlay of the Dark Base2012 BG skin is too transparent/light I've made some darker ones (Opacity set to 80% rather than 50%) you just need to download this file and extract the bgoverlay folder into the \base2012 dark bg\graphics folder so that it replaces the existing bgoverlay folder and overwrites the old graphics. For your changes to take affect If you have made any changes to the base skins (colours, fonts, graphics) to get your changes to show you’ll need to go into the Preferences -> Display & Sound Menu and untick ‘Use Skin Cache’ if it is ticked and then tick ‘Always Reload Skin On Confirm’ then click confirm and your changes should be applied, if you have previousily ticked and unticked the required boxes a 'Reload Skin' button should appear in the bottom left corner, if this button appears you can click that if the Confirm Button is grayed out. DOWNLOAD PAGE FOR FM2012 BASE SKINS ALT DOWNLOAD PAGE (Each link contains links to all four downloads) You are free to do what you want with these Base Skins provided: 1. You don't advertise them as being exclusive to your website. 2. At least one of the download links is free to access and download.

Chicha_14
Is there away to darken up the filter abit? The lad who made the stadium backgrounds last year brightened the photos so it's pretty hard to see the writing on a match day, seems like the filter is a bit more lighter this year. POMPEY657
Thankyou so much for this Chicha - Use photoshop. Or there are plenty of bgoverlay files in last years skins. POMPEY657
I've uploaded the bgoverlay filters. There are 4 to choose from: 20 being the lightest and 80 being the darkest. http://www.mediafire.com/?m4m84ibk484u7rs - Extract this to your desktop. Go to Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\skins\base2012 dark bg\graphics\bgoverlay and delete the 9 transparent images in that folder. Go back to the overlay folder on your desktop and choose which set you want to use. Copy and paste the new 9 transparent images over into the skin folder. Reload the skin. michaeltmurrayuk
If you find the overlay of the Dark Base2012 BG skin is too transparent/light I've made some darker ones (Opacity set to 80% rather than 50%) you just need to download this file and extract the nine png graphic files into the \base2012 dark bg\graphics\bgoverlay folder so that they replace the existing graphics. michaeltmurrayuk
Seems to be the same, maybe i'm doing something wrong? If it's done right the 80% files should look like this: With the default 50% ones looking like this: When you extracted the files did you copy the 9 graphics into the bgoverlay folder for the skin or did you copy the extracted bgoverlay folder, if you extracted the folder you need to replace the existing folder with the updated one, if you did that right and it still doesn't work make sure you have turned off the skin cache and reloaded the skin. michaeltmurrayuk
The Trophy icon needs to be called default and placed in \graphics\pictures\trophies inside your User Data Folder (you may need to create those folders) You cannot upload images directly to the forum you need to use an image hosting site like imageshack and then copy the links they give you and use the insert image option in the posting tools box. yonko
I have a general question to anyone who can help. In FM11 I was using a font called "verdana bold italic" (all I did was rename it "vera" and "verabd" in the font folder of the FM11 skin I was using) and I would like to use it in FM12 with the Base BG Dark skin. Can I do the same on FM12 and what do I rename the font? The verdana font I have from FM11 is TTF type font, while the one in the font folder of the Base BG Default Dark skin is OTF type font. Is that a problem and if yes, how do I work around it? Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind, all I want to know is if there is a difference whether the font file is OTF or TTF? Would either one work or would TTF cause a crash (playing on Mac)?

yonko
So, I've replaced the font in the Base BG Dark skin, but the text in the titlebar is misaligned like this: Uploaded with ImageShack.us The name of the player is lower than the flag and description. I haven't made any changes to the titlebar.xml file that is originally in the panels folder. What do I do to align the text properly? The other question I have is regarding the average rating in player profile at the bottom right. I think it was player stats.xml file that the change needs to be made in to highlight the average rating on the bottom right. I have that XML file from a FM11 skin, can I use that same XML file in FM12? That question would also apply if I wanted to make the player profile look like this: Uploaded with ImageShack.us That is player profile.xml from the FM11 skin I was using. Can I use that same XML into FM12? Thanks
michaeltmurrayuk
Different fonts act differently, to realign them you'd need to edit the titlebar.xml file. Regarding the player stats it doesn't look like the file has changed so copying the fm2011 one over should work, however the player profile one won't as there has been various changes to how the screen is laid out how the actual code itself hasn't changed so you can copy over bits and pieces - if you compare the altered FM2011 and FM2012 files it should be clear enough to see what code you need to alter. These are the lines in the titlebar file that control the header content Flag, Name (title) and Positions (description) play around with the inset values and/or font sizes until you are happy: <!-- flag --> <widget class="nation_button" id="stfl" auto_size="all" icon_alignment="right,can_scale" dspf="4"> <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="top" inset="22"/> <attachment class="test_global_attachment" get_property="stfl" skip_if_null="false" set_property="hidn"/> <attachment class="get_global_attachment" get_property="stfl" set_property="valu"/> </widget> <!-- title area --> <widget class="text" id="sect" alignment="left, top" size="15" style="bold, shadowed" multiline="false" auto_size="horizontal"> <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="vertical" inset="19"/> <attachment class="get_global_attachment" get_property="titl" set_property="text"/> <attachment class="get_global_attachment" get_property="ttcl" set_property="colr"/> </widget> <!-- description --> <widget class="text" id="subs" size="10" style="shadowed" alignment="left, top" multiline="true" auto_size="vertical"> <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="vertical" inset="23"/> <attachment class="test_global_attachment" get_property="subt" skip_if_null="false" set_property="hidn"/> <attachment class="get_global_attachment" get_property="subt" set_property="text"/> <attachment class="get_global_attachment" get_property="ttcl" set_property="colr"/> </widget> </container> Regarding the player profile personal details.xml file looks like it's only the code regarding the attribute analyser that has changed, I'm guessing from the screenshot you don't want that to display if so the 2011 file should work fine. Thank you, Michael. I worked it all out. The player profile personal details file needed some code adjusting - the code for the estimated value was misquoted as "label", but I fixed it by naming it "value_label" after compering it to the original FM12 one. The inset for the Title Area in the titlebar was off by 4, so I adjusted that to 15. Here is what it looks like now: Uploaded with ImageShack.us I'm delighted with the result.
