If we do most goals scored in a game or something like that :) Make sure that all records are in competitive games.

I mean its easy to score 18 goals in a friendly and claim you scored most goals in single game :) aha, sound good?

Friday really can't come quick enough for me. Really looking forward to knocking United off their perch and winning some trophies with City. Off to watch the boys train tomorrow morning which will really get me in the mood for some FM ;)

I'm so sad that i've started making plans for Friday about who i'll buy and sell and what staff to bring in and stuff.

MATE, I have also got it all planned :p All my signings are sorted, just got to put the offers in for them on friday ;) and then all the staff from Assistant Manager to Physio are being revamped and I know exactly what staff I'm bringing in :D Ha, I cannot wait!

TheInvisibleMan & Tyoldinho Let's hear who you're planning to sign and what other stuff you've got in mind then

Myself I'm signing Srna, De Rossi, Otamendi and either Dzagoev or Sandro. Hopefully I'll have money to sign a backup striker in the January transfer windows as well :)

I'll sack 2-3 Scouts, 3-4 Physios and a Youth Coach or two. I'll then poach all the best foreign scouts and hire some more general and specialist coaches...

the--dud any recommendations for LB would Lescott be good enough? have you tried him at LB? who could i target as Bridge isnt performing for me seems to get skinned by many wingers, i play a 41212 formation no wingers.

My Plans

I'm quite happy with the squad for the first season. I'll sign a right back. Undecided on who yet, probably end up getting Sagna. Micah Richards will be sent out on loan hopefully to a Premier League team.

Also go for Hamsik, Stevan Jovetic and possibly Moussa Sissoko. Might sign Otamendi but I don't see what all the fuss is about to be honest.

No need to sign too many youngsters though unless they have really good potential.

For staff i'm going for all English inlcuding Steve Gatting from Arsenal probably joining as a coach. For scouts i'll go for Roberto Bettega, Paul Johnson and Steve Rowley.

My Plans

As TheInvisibleMan said, I will be in the market for a right back. Sagna seemed to expensive for me :( So until the full game comes out, and I can explore a little more, I don't know what RB I shall be signing. (I have given myself £20m budget for a decent RB)

Hamsik/De Rossi seem deffinate purchases in my books, but in the first season I will only buy one, unless anyone thinks I should offload De Jong and buy De Rossi and Hamsik.

But that is all I feel the team needs for real competition in the Prem, I will be signing some youngsters just to loan out, e.g. Areola and Otamendi.

And also I will purchase Babacar from Fiorentina just because I love the fella, and at 16 has amazing attributes.

Depending on how good Kompany is (haven't really tried yet, anyone tell me if he is good?), I will probably buy Mexes, just to be a rock at the back.

Tan23: The best you can get at left back is probably Juan Manuel Vargas or Cristian Chivu, but personally Bridge has been OK for me. Lahm doesn't want to join season one, but perhaps he should be a long term target... Anyone else have any suggestions?

TheInvisibleMan: Otamendi has insanely high PA and he performs excellently even from the start. His physical attributes are amazing... He's the Sakho of FM10 ;)

Tyoldinho: Every one is looking for a right back as Richards has been down graded eh? No wonder but... Though the times I've played Richards he performs quite well! De Rossi is just an amazing defensive/box-to-box midfielder isn't he? Probably one of the top five for that role in the whole game, and he wants to join city season 1.

Tan23: I've tried Chivu and Vargas, I though perhaps Vargas performed the better. I wasn't too impressed with Chivu to be honest, although don't dismiss him because he should be quality. I've not tried Lescott at LB but don't see why he wouldn't be able to do a job there. Why do you not rate Wayne Bridge then? Do you not think he's decent or do you just want a different type of player?

-TonyVain-: Aye he's a good shout, but like any Brazilian full back he's better going forward than defending isn't he? I wonder if on FM10 he's still got potential to be better... Very rounded player though, perhaps I'll give him a go. Any idea what you'd have to pay for him?

the--dud i have played two saves with bridge and too many games he gets skinned to easily by the right wingers, also i am playing a diamond mid with no wingers, intend to get Srna for RB

Diego Renan at Cruzeiro is a possible alternative for DL/DR, he can play both sides and he's only 19. My coach rates him better than Bridge and says he could be better in the future. Well rounded player, but perhaps slightly better going forward. Just to throw someone else into the mix... I think I'll buy him on the full game, he's only about £10-13m...

Just playing a Manchester City game to get used to things before i get started with a real game. Have to say, it's even easier signing players in this game with the installments feature. I've managed to get Fabregas, Ribery, De Rossi and Chiellini in the first window, with no player sales, and only an extra £10m through budget adjustment. The amounts i've spent on these players total up to around £200m.

Link to post

Woodzy: Yeah, higher reputation this year :) How much transfer and wages did you pay for Chiellini and Ribery?

It'll be a bit harder to emulate that on the real game, as you'd have to pick title winner. Also, any transfer you spilt across 48 months will reduce the transfer budgets you get in the future.

So how you getting on playing with that dream team on the demo then? What formation do you play to fit them all in?

Link to post

It is the full game! Only just started really, won my first game of the season 5 - 0 against west ham, now i'm currently 1 - 0 down at home to chelsea which is worrying. I didn't put much thought into picking my team and used the same attacking line up i did against west ham, which was:

-------Tevez - Adebayor-----

Robinho ------------- Ribery

-----Fabregas--De Rossi------

Bridge --Chiellini--Toure--Richards

I think the fact i signed Ribery helped me capture Chiellini, because i didn't even consider going for him because i knew from the demo he wouldn't come, but my scouts recommended him. He's only on 80k a week! But Ribery is on 150k a week.

My team is pretty much set for a while attacking wise, so money for youngsters and to strengthen my full backs is pretty much all the money i'd need in the next couple of seasons. Just hopefully the large spending i jsut did is enough to see me take the title in the first season.

Woodzy: Excellent, good to hear you got the game a day early! I think to be brutally honest if you don't win games with that team the only excuse is seriously your tactics ;) I'm sure you can win the league first season... Let us know what happens!

I got home today and FM10 was waiting on me :D

Started a game and bought the following players (still only pre-season):

De Rossi - £35m

Chiellini - £25m (wasn't intending to but simply couldn't resist!!)

Skjelbred - £3.5m (overpaid because I think he's amazing in real life...)

Milevskyi - £8.5m

Srna - £16.5m

Diego Renan - £12.5m

Enyeama - £250k

Otamendi - £3.5m

Paid some of the transfer fees over 48 months, that's how I could afford it but I feel I never went completely nuts... Apart from Chiellini which I simply couldn't resist!

Yes :D Got the game earlier today and my Man City game is underway :D Haven't hit the continue button yet in it though! Just been looking through endless players, been on the game near 4 hours as well.

Link to post

TheInvisibleMan: Im loving the game, just having the full thing makes me want to play it more! I have more enthusiasm for it. Found a few gems, but I dont know, they might be completely random CA's.

Link to post

Tyoldinho: Haha, haven't hit the continue button after four hours. That's legendary :D You playing much today, any chances of some signings and games being played today then? hehe...

TheInvisibleMan: I play a narrow diamond midfield so the typical signings like Ribery and Messi doesn't actually fit into my formation... But if you play wingers, I totally agree with you! You playing today? Let us know your signings then right?

ballinisahabit: Recieved the game yet mate?

For myself I'm stuck at work today, but luckly the boss is off so I've got plenty of time to browse online but just can't play FM10 until later today :(

I humped every team I played during pre-season (including Santos), only got one goal against which was an annoying penalty conceded by Zabaleta... Scored three to six goals in all my preseason games.

Bellamy has actually pitched in with quite a few goals, but against easy opposition. Tevez got injured for two weeks but still managed 3 goals if I remember correctly. Adebayor has done well too. The real star of pre-season is without doubt Robinho playing as AMC (attack) Trequartista, I've actually lost count of the amount of assists and goals he's gotten already! Absolutely insane in this role for me... Can't describe how good he is haha.

My defence has been rock-solid with Toure/Chiellini as first choice then Lescott/Otamendi as back up. Fullbacks are Srna/Diego Renan with Richards/Bridge as back up. Diego Renan has been a pleasing find, excellent going forward and quite solid at defending. My world-class assistant manager (NOT Bowen!) says he can become a lot better than Bridge.

As for the rest I play De Rossi as Deep Laying Playmaker (defend) at DMC, Barry and Ireland as MCs. Barry as Box-to-Box (support), Ireland as Central Midfielder (attack).

I'm really looking forward to sunday when I'll finally get some time on my hands to play the full version.

I love the team Man City has assembled in real life, so I can't wait to start up a game with this team.

I don't want to make a lot of changes as I think it would be too unrealistic.

The only things I've got planned is:

Out: Bellamy (can't stand him)

In: Dzeko

and then I want to buy a new right back. Any suggestions? I've been looking at Sagna - does anyone have an idea as to how much he'll cost?

Sagna Cost 20-25m, Srna is another Right back he costs around 17m

NozEE: Sagna is good, but I've never signed him myself so unsure about the cost.

Other alternatives are: Srna, Diego Renan, Jerome Boateng, Maicon and Rafinha. Diego Renan has been brilliant for me, he's both footed so his attributes are actually higher than what you can see. Srna is also very solid, just like FM09 I suppose. Boateng is supposedly good at the start but turns out amazing I've heard. Maicon is hard to sign and expensive. Rafinha I've never tried myself but supposed to be quite good.

Keep us posted

Half way through the season and i can't believe i'm still in the title race. I'm 3 points off the top (from spurs believe it or not) with myself and the "top 4" all 1 or 2 points within each other below spurs. It's literally anyone's title at the moment.

I seriously need to rethink my tactics for the second half of the season, i've picked 0 points out of 12 against the top 4, and drew the odd couple of games where i shouldn't have.

Link to post

Woodzy: Sound like a thrilling season finale is in store then eh?

I've found that to beat the "top 4" you need to sit a bit deeper and just ride your luck hoping they don't score. Usually I end up putting one to two goal past them. Perhaps even try setting up counter-attacking or control tactic?

It's annoying, the only team that truly outplayed me were Arsenal, the other 3 games i was unlucky. Chelsea had Essien sent off, yet scored a last minute winner. United got an early goal and defended for their lives the whole game, and Liverpool, went from 2 - 0 down in the first 4 minutes to beat me 3 - 2. Arsenal are the only team that aren't within a point from being league leaders.

Myself, Spurs and Chelsea are all on 38 points after the latest game, with me now being top on goal difference. United are one behind with 37, and Liverpool are on 33 with a game in hand. All teams are dropping silly points, it's already one of the most exciting seasons i've had on an FM game, and there's still half way to go!

Link to post

What's your default formation mate? Roughly explain it..? What players comprise your strongest XI? What signings did you make again?

38 points halfway through the season is a bit low, as you say there must be point dropped left, right and centre then eh?

Link to post

TheInvisibleMan: You could just muck about with the demo for a few days, but I can understand it must be terribly annoying. Knowing it's available, but you just don't have it... Who listens to their parents anyway? :p Thankfully I'm far too old to be told what to do by my parents... Get told off by the wife now haha.

Haha, good on you... Aye do let us know. I think especially it should be interesting how people approach transfers differently. As I mentioned I went a bit overboard, but I've still retained quite a few of the "original" players in my starting XI :)

I have just put in offers in players that I already knew the price for :) To get through the transfers quick so they have more time to gel :D

The only transfer that is taking its time is Babacar  Fior refuse to sell!

Being a Man City fan, and getting this game yesterday, I eagerly set up a game instantly.

I signed Darijo Srna(Shakhtar), Martín Demichelis(Bayern), Jaoquín(Valencia), Juan Manuel Vargas(Fiorentina) and Rafael Van Der Vaart(Real Madrid).

I don't think I saved though. >.< I hope I did, because I don't want to make my signings over again. If I do have to, I think I'll only be re-signing Demichelis(for 8.75M) and Van Der Vaart(for 7.25M). The rest were overpriced, and didn't cut it in the first three games. I paid £15M+ for each, and they were poor...

I favour a 4-4-2(Diamond) as FM calls it. I call it a Wide 4-1-2-1-2.

I like how my team plays. Nice, flowing, attacking football. It's also good to watch. I'll keep people updated(if they're interested).

Tan23: You've got Caps Lock on mate ;) Aye, seems like most players fancy a move to the might Man City if you offer them enough money... Just up to the manager to buy the right players, the ones that are needed. Not just buy because of their reputations...

Tyoldinho: Fiorentina, just like all other clubs will bow down to our financial wealth eventually ;) Mind to post an update once all your signings are done then...

JDownie: Cool, welcome then  Do you play Demichelis as DC or DMC then? A very nice price for him I must say... How's Jaoquín rated in FM10 by the way? I know he was pretty poor in FM09.

I play a narrow 4-4-2 diamond myself, performs beautifully for me.

I play Demichelis as a Centre Back. He's quick, strong, and knows what he is doing. He's been my best player so far, closely followed by Van Der Vaart. I play Demichelis in the place of Lescott, who is a back up for either Touré or Demichelis. I was pleased that he signed. I was constantly being questioned(by the press) as to whether I was signing him, as I needed a CB. And then Mark Bowen was mentioning that we needed a world class Centre Back, and Demichelis was perfect. Not expecting him to sign for me, and so not putting in a large bid, I placed £7.5M. They accepted, and I offered him around £80k wages. He accepted. He also said how he would miss Bayern. The press expected it to make him place worse for the first few games. He scored 2 goals(from free-kicks), and has been given MoM awards in 3 out of 5 games. Yeah... he's feeling sad, right?

hi guys, just loaded up the game after infuriating installation problems (dont ask), and started a game with city. playing a 4-3-1-2, trying to sign rafinha, de rossi, chiellini, vargas and Otamendi. will post screenshots and updates later on.

the dud - could you maybe tell us what assistant manager you got as bowen is rubbish and i can't find any good ones

Forgot to mention Jaoquín. He's very disappointing. He's often selfish and doesn't pass. His teamwork is below what I had hoped for, to say the least. His crossing is terrible, and as such I have to rely on Robinho to cross in from the left wing. Bearing in mind that Robinho is Right Footed, I'm not wholly comfortable with him doing so. I wanted him to play up at the far post, Adebayor in the middle, and Tevez at the near post. An inadvertent 4-3-3, really. But Jaoquín doesn't cut it for me, and it doesn't work as well as I had hoped.

Robinho has been pulling the cross-ball weight. He's got 3 assists from crossing. Two of which assisted Tevez, in the air.

EDIT:

So it turns out I didn't save my game. Unfortunately I have to buy my players again. Fortunately, I can avoid the crap that I don't want.

My aims:

Vincent Enyeama: Back-up for Shay Given. I've offered him a contract, and I've paid only 500k towards the team, Hapoel Tel Aviv, I believe it is(may be Maccabi Haifa. I'm not good with Israeli teams)

Antonio Cassano: To fill up my AMC position. I can confirm that I've signed the man, now. £18M, and not one other club showed interest in him. I'm very happy with that.

Rafinha: I want to stay away from Srna, who was awful for me. I tried to sign Darijo, however. £22M, plus a £2.3M signing clause, plus £110k per week. As opposed to £10M for Rafinha, 1.1M sign-on clause, and only £70k per week.

Van Der Vaart: Not quite as easy to buy as last time. I bought him near the end, when he was on the transfer list. I'm having to pay £9.5M, instead of the £7.5M I paid the first time around. I hope I get him. Then I can sell Stephen Ireland, who I insist on calling the most underrated player in the Football Manager series ever. He needs to be better than he is.

Demichelis: He wasn't transfer listed when I bought him the first time, but I'm having to pay more this time. £8.5M, as opposed to the 7.5 I paid the first time around. If I fail to get him, I'm buying this man:

Phillipe Mexes: I've had a £18.5M bid accepted. I'd rather have Demichelis. But I will take Mexes if Martín says no.

Diego Rennan: I don't know much about him. Strikes me as a very young Darijo Srna. I'm buying him as a back-up to Wayne Bridge, and as a youth prospect. I've not had my £9.75M bid accepted yet. They've yet to reply.

And a bid which I think deserves a special mention, and something which I found by looking through this section of the board:

Jádson: I've approached to sign him. For a 25 year old on a free, I can't go wrong with this. The worst he can do is take away £66,000 from my £2.3M wage budget. He's a back-up for Cassano, Van Der Vaart, and then Robinho. But I insist on buying him. Any (good) free player is worth the risk, in my view.
