FC Barcelona - The Catalan Giants

Club History

Fútbol Club Barcelona also known simply as Barcelona and familiarly as Barça is a football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The team was founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English and Spanish men led by Joan Gamper. The club has become a Catalan institution, hence the motto "Més que un club" (More than a club). The official Barça anthem is El Cant del Barça by Josep Maria Espinàs.

FC Barcelona is one of three clubs never to have been relegated from La Liga and the most successful club in Spanish football after Real Madrid, having won nineteen La Liga titles, a record twenty-five Spanish Cups, eight Spanish Super Cups, four Eva Duarte Cups and two League Cups. They are also one of the most successful clubs in European football having won thirteen official major European trophies in total, including ten UEFA competitions. They have won three UEFA Champions League titles, a record four UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, a record three Inter-Cities Fairs Cups (the forerunner to the UEFA Cup) and three UEFA Super Cups. In 2009, Barcelona became the first club in Spain to win the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League. The club is also the only European side to have played continental football in every season since its inception in 1955.

The club's stadium is the Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity of 98,787 seats. Barcelona enjoys a high rate of popularity; about 25.7% of Spanish population support the club, while according to a recent survey Barcelona is the most popular football club in Europe with around 44.2 million fans. With 170,000 socis (members) in September 2009, the Catalan club is also placed among the top football clubs in the world with the most registered members, and the number of penyes, the officially-registered supporter clubs, reached the number of 1,888 worldwide in August 2009. The fans of FC Barcelona are known as culés. The club shares a great rivalry with Real Madrid and contest in one of the most famous football matches worldwide, known as El Clásico.

During the 2007–08 season, FC Barcelona was the third richest club in the world with a revenue of €308.8 million. It was also one of the founding members of the now-defunct G-14 group of the leading European football clubs and its modern replacement, the European Club Association. The club also operates a reserve team, FC Barcelona Atlètic, while there was a youth team until 2007, FC Barcelona C.

As of July 1, 2009, FC Barcelona was ranked first in UEFA team ranking. According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), Barça has been the most consistently successful club in the world since the organisation began collecting statistics, in the period 1991-2008.

The Colours

BarcaKit.jpg

One of the most distinctive elements of FC Barcelona are the colours the players wear.

Scarlet and blue have featured on the club shirt for more than one hundred years and the club is widely known as the ‘Blaugrana’ in reference to the names of these colours in the Catalan language. However, although the shirt has remained relatively constant in design over the years, the team shorts were white for the first ten years of club history, then switched to black, and were only blue from the 1920s onwards.

Nut just why Barça originally chose to wear these shirt colours has been matter of much debate among club historians, and although several theories have been put forward, nobody has ever managed to provide substantial evidence that the colours were chosen for any symbolic reason. Naturally, most of the theories are related to the foundation and origins of the club. For instance, it was claimed for several years that the Barça colours were adopted from a Swiss club that Gamper had founded earlier in his life, or that they were the colours of the Swiss canton that the founder was from. We now know that these hypotheses are highly unlikely to be true.

There is another common but unproven theory that the founders based their choice on the colours of the blue and red accountancy pencils that were so popular at the time. And there are other more prosaic suggestions, for instance the one which maintains that the mother of the Comamala brothers supplied the players with red and blue sashes so that they could differentiate between each other in the days before they had a kit of their own. But, as stated earlier, none of these theories have ever managed to offer conclusive evidence of why it was that Barça used these colours from its very earliest days. But what can be sure is that the Barça shirt has gone on to be one of the most recognisable and enigmatic shirt designs in world football.

The Crest

Crest20Information-1.jpg

There are few elements that symbolise an organised group more than its crest.

From the very moment Barça was founded, the club had its own emblem that the players proudly wore on their shirts. It was the coat of arms of the city of Barcelona, a diamond shape divided into four quarters, with a crown and a bat on top, and surrounded by two branches, one of a laurel tree and the other a palm. This, even at such an early stage, was a way of expressing the club’s link to the city in which it was born.

This crest remained unchanged until 1910. Shortly after Gamper had saved the club from serious crisis in 1908, a decision was made to give the club its own differentiated crest. In 1910, the club held a competition between all the members interested in presenting proposals. The winner was Carles Comamala, who played for the club between 1903 and 1912, and was a medicine student at the time, as well as being a fine artist. And so the crest that the club wears to this day was created, although there have been a few variations. It is a bowl-shaped design, in which the two upper quarters maintain the St George Cross and the red and yellow bars of the original, which are the most representative symbols of Barcelona and Catalonia. The club initials FCB appear on a strip across the centre, and below are the Barça colours and a ball. So, what we have is a crest that honours the sporting dimension of the club as well as its connection to its city and country.

Since 1910, the changes made to the design have been minimal, generally just modifying the aesthetics and the patterns used for the outline. The biggest changes came about as a result of political obligations. When Franco came to power, the letters FCB were replaced by CFB, to reflect the way the club was forced to use the Spanish version of its name. The dictatorship also obliged the club to remove two of the four bars from one of the upper quarters, thus excluding the Catalan flag from the crest. On occasion of the club’s 50th anniversary in 1949, the four bars returned. The original letters were not recovered until late 1974, when the crest reverted to the original 1910 design.

The present crest is based on an adaptation made by designer Claret Serrahima in 2002, in which the lines are a little more stylised, the dots between the letters have been taken away, the name has been made smaller, and there are fewer pointed edges. The lines in this latest design are somewhat simpler, to make it easier for the crest and the club’s corporate identity to be reproduced in all the different formats.

The First Team Squad

Squad Overview

Being Barcelona, the word "Brilliant" comes to mind and rightly so with the squad you have. From the back to the front of the field you an immense starting line-up, however the cover for them is somewhat lacking and if a key member of the squad is to get injured you could find yourself lacking the proper level of player to replace them. Overall you have a strong squad but there is room for improvement, starting with a packet full of youthful prospects to re-inforce an otherwise age'ing team.

Key Players

Defense - Gerard Pique - The Muscle

Untitled1-1.jpg

Midfield - Xavi Hernandez - The Brains

Forward - Lionel Messi - The Dynamite

Goal Keepers

Victor Valdes - Rating - 7.5 ~ 10.
  • One of the most under-rated and under-appreciated Goalkeepers in modern football. Again he is classed with the enviable task of being the "No. 1" at Barcelona with Pep showing faith in the Spanish Shot-Stopper. Subsequently his stats reflect his skill at doing just that, stopping anything thrown at him. He is a very useful Goalkeeper who again, like many installments of the game, produce's consistent match winning performances from the back. While he could be better his "hidden" mental stats just make him that much better than most. He is a safe bet and easily able to fend of any competition for the GK spot at Barcelona. You should look to keep this fella happy and if he is leaking goals, you would do well to check how the defence is coping and how your tactics are working before blaming him for your failings.

José Pinto - Rating - 3.5 ~ 10.
  • A decent backup player for the first season, he however does not have age on his side and quite frankly is just no where near good enough to step in for Valdes should the need arise. He is surprisingly poor in-goals and shows little to no consistency in the net. Should the need arise and you put him between your sticks, you best pray for a good day or, for all your attacking intent and options, you will be on the end of a heavy beating.

VerdictRating - 5.5 ~ 10.

A solid first choice Keeper, but lacking in support or backup. The youth prospects are also toned down this year so getting in a

World-Class Youngster who can settle himself for the first season or two and than begin to challenge Valdes for that No. 1 spot

should be a priority. However your first choice is simple as Valdes will easily do the job.

Fullbacks

Éric Abidal - Rating - 6.5 ~ 10.
  • Abidal is very solid defensively and is one of the more consistently good performers. Toned down from last year's edition he still poses a very credible threat going forward he is better suited to the "donkey" work at the back. Recycling the ball, working it down the flanks and keeping possesion are more suited to Abidal's game than bombing down the left and arching a perfect cross onto the head of Ibrahimovic. He is as solid as you could want and would take some beating. Definately worth keeping, even if just as a backup.

Maxwell - Rating - 6 ~ 10.
  • As good going forward as you will ever get from any LB in the game. His ability to dribble and beat his man is near un-matched and with his pace he is an absolute nightmare to defend against. However he is very fragile defensively with some decent technical stat's being let down heavily by some very poor mental stats. He is prone to be caught out of position often and his strength can often cause him to be kept away from the ball when he tries to recover it. I would suggest only using him sparingly in defense and utilize his attacking trait's more as a wing-back.

Daniel Alves - Rating - 7.5 ~ 10
  • Arguably the first name on the team sheet. His attacking attributes have been toned down this year but his defensive one's have been bumped a little, which quite frankly makes him the best RB there is in the game, or very close to it. He is still a complete handful when he bombs forward and with the mental attributes to back-up his defensive one's he is very good in either direction. Absolute monster of a player who will still be giving the wingers and fullbacks nightmares for years to come.

VerdictRating - 6.5 ~ 10.

A very good duo sitting at LB, however with only Alves being a dedicated RB you will need cover at RB. Possibly look into a more defensive

minded RB to compliment Alves much like Abidal compliments Maxwell. Puyol is able to slot into RB, however he is a more accustomed DC,

so I would rather bring someone in than play Puyol out of position.

Centrebacks

Rafael Márquez - Rating - 5.5 ~ 10.
  • Simply, he is your ball-playing defender. Able to work the ball out of defence brilliantly with his passing and creativity he is more suited to a DMC position, but still manages to solidify his partnership alongside Pique with his mental and technical ability. He is good alongside Pique and his stats compliment the giant stopper well, however, he is only let-down by his mediocre physical stats and age which are both heavily against him. I would recommend pushing him up to DMC as cover for Yaya Toure if you plan on keeping him. Otherwise he is one of the more lucurative players to sell on.

Gabriel Milito - Rating - 5 ~ 10.
  • Again like Marquez his technical and mental ability is let down by his age and poor physical attributes. He is extremely injury-prone and will struggle to hold down a spot against the likes of Pique and Puyol. I have struggled to find substance to Milito or what he add's to the team and as such I always tend to end up selling him and bringing in a younger player with a bit more ability to stay fit when I need them. I would recommend moving him onto new pastures and bringing someone in as the £83k p/w he takes out of the club is just not worth it.

Gerard Piqué - Rating - 8 ~ 10.
  • Here we come onto your diamond. Pique is easily the first name on your team sheet defensively. Tall, Strong and Powerfull he is everything you want from a solid defender. Able to nick a goal going forward with his height and power and barge people off the ball defensively he has just about everything in his arsenal, except maybe the ability to dribble. With limitless potential and age on his side he is going to be on your team-sheet for a long time to come as there are very very few defenders better than him at his age.

Carles Puyol - Rating - 7.5 ~ 10.
  • Your captain, leader and general. The player that inspires confidence in your players and instills fear into the opposition, Puyol is the perfect compliment to Pique. His stat's have if anything gotten better in this installment and quite frankly he has deserved it. He is as viscious as they come, when it comes to his net. Technically, Mentally and Physically brilliant he is only hindered by his age, however don't let that fool you as he is still good to go for at least two season's which should easily allow you to pick up a World Class youngster to take over from him. His retirement plan's should be something you look into as he should never be allowed to leave the club.

Dmytro Chygrynskiy - Rating - 6.5 ~ 10.
  • The newest addition to the Barcelona defence is the Ukrainian Chygrynskiy. He is deceptively poor. Many people will fall for his attribute's that are high and forget to look at some key one's that are very very low for a player that expects to challenge it out at Barcelona. His Acceleration and Anticipation are much too low for his quality and will need to be worked on heavily if you plan on utilizing him to the best of his ability. His age does help as he is young and can, with sufficent training, change his ways, but until those stats increase he is likely to be quite error-prone at the back. A decent prospect but needs work done to get the "finished" product.

VerdictRating - 6.5 ~ 10.

A monsterous line-up of defenders, however aside from Pique and Chygrynskiy you have ageing defenders who while solid in the first season

will begin to fade off quickly from there. Looking into a few good youth options here should be a priority as Chygrynskiy is lackluster and very error-prone

defender. If you do sell Milito and Marquez you should invest accordingly into youth and experience as you would definately need to replace them.

Midfielders

Sergio Busquets - Rating - 6 ~ 10.
  • Young, Talented and Determined. Okay scratch the last part, even so Busquets is still a decent player with a wealth of talent in his hands. The only downside is the clubs indecision on where to best utilize him with some thinking he is cover for Yaya while others think he is the next Xavi. You have to make the decision on where to play him and where to best utilize his ability and shape the ability you have in him. He is definately a good backup player and if developed could possibly be the next Xavi. He has a broad spectrum of stats confirming that the coaches aren't sure where to play him, so your job is to bite the bullet and figure out where to play him. Personally though I would suggest keeping him for a season or two giving him adequate game-time and training and see what you have from there, there being whether to sell or keep him on.

Xavi Hernandez - Rating - 8.5 ~ 10.
  • The king of creative freedom. Absolutely un-matched in picking out a pass or scything the defence in two. His natural ability is simply to do the un-expected and do it well. He is a creative genius and with the correct settings should simply rip teams apart from start to finish, there is simply nothing else Xavi likes doing more. Technically and Mentally stunning and Physically good (well for a midfielder) he is the pinnacle of creative football. Give him full license with creative freedom, through him onto the field and sit back and enjoy the results. Like Puyol you should look into retirement plan's as Xavi should NEVER be allowed to leave the Catalan Giants.

Andrés Iniesta- Rating - 8.5 ~ 10.
  • The second coming. He is Xavi v2.0 or possibly Iniesta v1.0. Either way he is as gifted with a football as Xavi is and as Pep Guardiola was. Absolutely breath-taking to watch IRL and it is no different in-game. Put him alongside Xavi with a creative license and watch as dreams become reality and you play mouth watering football like Barcelona do IRL. There is simply no other player I would rather have partnering Xavi than Iniesta and quite frankly it would take an idiot to actually sell Iniesta, so add another player to the retirement list.

Seydou Keita - Rating - 5.5 ~ 10.
  • "Good at alot, brilliant at nothing". That quote sum's up Keita perfectly. He has the ability to play anywhere in the midfield, whether it be attacking of defensive but he is brilliant at neither and quite frankly to force your way into this midfield you have to be brilliant at something. He is a useful rotational player or backup but with his age against him it is definately worth looking into shipping him out and either bringing through some of the talented youngsters you have or signing up a "brilliant" player in his stead.

Yaya Touré - Rating - 7 ~ 10.
  • Unjustly rated for what he does IRL. A goliath of a player similar in characteristic's to Michael Essien he is no where near as good in the game and it show's. He is consistent and does an awesome job protecting your back-four and providing for your midfield but quite frankly he just is no where near as good at it as Essien is. However don't be taken-aback by that as I'm comparing him to the best player in the world in his position, which is promising in itself. He is as good as you are going to get unless you are willing to open your check-book for Essien, which would cost you more than its worth in my opinion. He is also very very good in all departments so there is no need to sell him as he is easily the second best player in the world at his position.

VerdictRating - 7 ~ 10.

With the options you have availiable to you, only Youth is worth investing into your MC as there isn't a player in the game, bar possibly Fabregas,

who is worth mentioning alongside your MC options. At DMC however you could definately do better than Keita, so looking into a solid and promising

DMC is a definate.

Forwards

Thierry Henry - Rating - 7.5 ~ 10.
  • Mr. Va Va Voom. Henry again is given a broad spectrum of stats encompasing his natural ability as a "complete forward". His Technical ability is somewhat lackluster but in unison with his Mental means he is easily able to produce the form that saw him demolish the Premier League. However he is aging quickly and will need to be replaced eventually and in Bojan you have a like for like replacement. I would keep Henry until his retirement from the game just to keep the best Forward Tutor availiable to my youngsters.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Rating - 8.5 ~ 10.
  • In Ibrahimovic, Barcelona finally have what every fan has been wanting, a Target-Man. Tall, Strong and Technically stunning he is the perfect player to lead the lines of the Barcelona team. He is only let down by his poor work ethic (Team-Work, Work Rate and Concentration) and low Determination which can mean he floats in and out of the game. But give him time and correct supply and he can be the most frieghtening player any defender could come up against.

Bojan Krkic - Rating - 7 ~ 10.
  • The wonderkid in the Barcelona ranks. Bojan has limitless potential and with the likes of Messi and Henry around him, he has some of the best tutors to learn from. Easily able to become the best player in the world, Bojan should be nutured and directed to stardom with very careful training and tutoring. Game-Time is a must and with enough of it, his stats should rise quickly making him a player that can take over from Henry after the first season. Given his Spanish nationality, you should definately be looking to keep him for as long as possible.

Lionel Messi - Rating - 9 ~ 10.
  • Lionel Messi. What else is there say that hasn't been said at length by everyone who just glance's at him when he plays. Unquestionably the best Forward in the World, his Technical, Mental and Physical stats show just that. Give him the "Trequartista" role in the team and watch him rip open defence's with direct running and silky skills all the while pulling players out of position to open up space for the rest of your attacking members to exploit. He is the very first name on the team-sheet when he is fit and you would do well to find a player who can even come close to Messi's level of ability.

Pedro Rodriguez - Rating - 6.5 ~ 10.
  • Pedro is definately a player to look out for. His attributes are shaded by his ability to use both feet so do not be decieved by them. He has the potential to capture that AML slot that has been the bane of the Barcelona side for year's and with the correct tutoring and training has the potential to take that First Team spot by the scruff of the neck. However some stats are low and even his two-footedness cannot disguise them. His Determination, Work-Rate and Creativity need to be improved if you expect to utilize him to the best of his ability, given the correct level's of attention though, he can go on to become a decent player at worst.

VerdictRating - 8 ~ 10.

With both Henry getting on in life and Ibrahimovic on his way, a World-Class Forward could be a good addition. However with the likes of

Bojan and Pedro coming through, investment is probably better spent on added World-Class prospects for the future.

Loanies

Aliaksandr Hleb, Henrique, Martin Caceres, Keirrison.

Analysis

  • Both Henrique and Caceres are decent backup players with the possible potential to grab a piece of pine on the Barcelona bench, however neither of them are capable of getting a First Team starter slot on a consistent basis. The same goes for Hleb as he isn't a world beater in his position and quite frankly thats what it takes to get into the Barcelona starting line-up. All three of them are dispensible, so if you get good enough offers for them, I would gladly accept the offers. Keirrison however is a different prospect. He is a player I would get one of my scouts watching and be mindful over his progress as he has all the ability and potential to become one of the best Forwards in the game and alongside Bojan could very well lead your lines for an age to come.

Youth Prospects

Andreu Fontas, Gai Assulin, Jonathan dos Santos, Marc Muniesa, Ruben Rochina, Thiago Alcantara.

Analysis

  • The immediate problem that is glaring amongst the Barcelona team, is the lack of World-Class youngsters. The Youth Squad is lacking and therefore is one of the area's that needs to be invested into heavily. However their are a few players that stand-out amongst the mediocrity and could possibly be competant to good players. The above players all have high recommendations from your Ass. Man. With no real way to develope or check PA's, I'm unfortunately not able to give you alot more in-game information on them. But from what I have seen of them in the u19's league, they are all worth a look into and should be kept and worked on to see what sort of potential they hold!

Recommended Formation

Formations-1.png

With the players (future signings you make excluded) you have, going for the usual 4-5-1 is the best option with the team you have, while going 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 are just as attractive options. With Messi and Henry playing out wide at AMR and AML and Xavi, Iniesta and Yaya Toure controlling the middle in the CM's and DMC position you can create a monsterous attacking force with the defensive solidity that has seen Barcelona rise to the pinacle of football as the best team in Europe.

However with the quality of players that you have at your disposal it should be easy to cater for a variety of formations depending on your taste and likings.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading and to everyone who is taking on the Barcelona challenge I welcome you to your new thread! Hopefully we will build on our partial success of last season and continue to be one of the more helpful and active threads again!

Pedro is ok on the left or right AM. First choice for me on the left is Angel Di María who I picked up from Benfica for £4.1m (though I think you should be able to get him cheaper) and he's on £10k p/w. Young, doesn't need a permit (Argentinian with Italian second nationality).

After 17 apps he's got 3 goals and 7 assists with 1 MoM. Well worth a look.

I just started as Barcelona, and they seem to be missing a left winger. Pedro isn't good enough (yet) on first sight

Yes they do, Robinho spot i guess. :D

Pedro and Jeffren can possibly backup Henry until Assulin is ready. Messi, Bojan and Iniesta can play there too. I downloaded the demo yesterday and signed Di Maria for 4 million though, just in case.

I just wanted to add that taking a look at the youth setup is worth the time. Thiago, Assulin, Muniesa... are all very talented prospects. You already have excellent training facilities, so when money and time is avaible one should fire some so-so coaches and hire top ones to take the most advantage of that young talent pool. If only the "B" squad could be managed... :(

On the other hand before making a large money investment is worth considering some great players that have barcelona as they favourite club, as this could potentially lower the transfer by making the players unhappy. Ozil, Fabregas anyone? :D

He seems to have had his wings clipped a little. Although, I am playing a 4-5-1 and don't think he suits the lone striker role very well.

Yeah I'd agree his ratings were not what they were but still a great prospect and apt at being a good replacement for the Monster that is Zatan!!!!!!

Just checking out Barca on the demo before starting a long-term save on the full-release.

Playing the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation. Zlatan became injuried early, and I can only say that Bojan on drill crosses, as amazing. Scored 5 goals in three matches so far.

I'm looking forward to the full release, than I'll attempt on buying Javi Martinez as replacement for Xavi, and hopefully sign a left winger in the calibre Robinho/Ben Arfa and Jovetic as back-up. Also Azpilicueta as long-term right back.

Nice one sounds good! Ive played 6 months with barca and I loved every minute of it. Replacement for Xavi, are you mad :D he's got another good 5 years in him at least - hes never had great physical attributes so this won't be too detrimental. But I know what you mean. I was very surprised with Dmytro Chygrynskiy, he was very good for me when needed to cover for Dani Alves and at CB when needed.

I did not buy him but Antonio Cassano's ratings seem pretty good and seems ideal for the AML position and Jovetic also seems good but Chelsea and Man City snapped these up before I even knew! So don't be too late. Modric for Spurs seems decent also - my scout report rated him at 4 stars and said that he and messi were similar in standard and would be a great signing. He should be available for around £18m-£20m as he is commming in January for me. Modric has good attributes but would not say he is immense at anything i.e. 18+.

Hope Zlatan is back soon because he is unbelieveable!!! I've got him as a target man with the ball played into his feet. He's breathtaking! But as you said Bojan is a very good back up as I play one up top with two attacking winger/forwards. Keep us updated on your save! Now ive done my six months I need my Barca fix lol! :)

Okay finally finished the entire opening "post". Had to run into two post's because of the "four picture per post" restriction.

Going to do a more in-depth season now and will keep a look-out for "the" buys to make for the team!

Nice one looking forward to hearing your updates!!! :)

On the other hand before making a large money investment is worth considering some great players that have barcelona as they favourite club, as this could potentially lower the transfer by making the players unhappy. Ozil, Fabregas anyone? :D

Don't forget Arshavin :D The perfect player for that troublesome left wing position.

Opening Post Update: Added a "Youth" segment which I'll add more to when the official game is released and I see how they develop and what PA's we have to work with. I've also added a "Signings" segment with the Players I believe people should look to sign to either re-inforce or replace the current squad with, where again I'll update it as the game goes on with more realistic starting targets and than targets that should be taken into consideration for the future!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

So I've set myself up with the standard 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3) with Messi and Henry controlling my AMR and AML slots. As expected I dominated my friendlies brushing off all opposition which was encouraging. I haven't made any signings as I want to test the squad without added influence's and see what I lack from actual match experience.

Will give an update when I'm at the end of the demo which shouldn't take long as I tend to get through my season's quite quickly.

What about a backup for right back? I'd say that's more important than the left wing. You've got a couple of players that COULD play this position and a lot of talent coming up, whereas the right back doesn't really have any cover at all, besides Puyol...

I also thought the right back spot lacked depth in terms of cover for Dani Alves. But Dmytro Chygrynskyi is a good player, his marking is only 13 and his acceleration is 10 but apart from that he is very compatent and I was very surprised with him.

I know he has not been my first choice but a good squad player. Dmytro Chygrynskyi (sorry image is not great)

On the LW/AML front I had both Abidal and Henry getting long term injuries. So I had a bit of a dilema at Left back and AML. Maxwell is ok but for me he is better further forward. He has all of the following attributes above 15: acceleration, pace, agility, creativity, first touch, passing, technique, work rate, crossing, dribbling. Team work and flair are 15, all good stats for a winger.

So instead of getting a AML I would train Maxwell to be accomplished there as it is currently unconvincing. His heading and tackling are 12 and his marking is 13 - for me this is not good enough to be a left back, and with Dani Alves being pretty attacking minded it is too attacking for me. So after playing for the 6 months I would look at a left back in light of what I have learnt. :)

Oh crap Xavi is out for 4 months. I hope it wont affect my team too drastically.

OOOch!!! That has to hurt. :(

Just finished my first demo game.

Bought Vilar(£1.1mil) , Di Maria(£3mil) and Hamsik(£10mil)

I couldnt get Xavi to play well. Tried him as Deep Playmaker and Advanced. How do you set him up..? When Hamsik got the chance he was great.

How do Messi perform for you..? In my games he played average. Nothing special :(

I made a 4-4-2 and didnt loose a game. Henry 17 goals And Ibrahimovic 19 goals.

Now i´ll try with 4-5-1 and see how it goes :)

And Intercept - great OP

Very well put together thread.

surely the only things need doing are finding a replacement for Henry, Puyol and a better goalkeeper? Then you would have a team worthy of success for years.

In my experiences in FM although Valdes' attributes are not amazing he seems to perform very well. I often do replace him with a so called 'great keeper' but they are no better than Valdes and probably worse. Yeah Puyol and Hebry are not what they were but still pretty darn good!

Didnt lose a game- impressive (did you play real madrid home or away in the league?)

Xavi and Messi were good for me, I'll upload my tactics for you to have a look. Based on your 4-4-2 formation did you get Henry to get 17 goals from LM or ST must be ST. If you did play him up front then who played left wing please? Zlatan was in a league of his own for me aswell. :)

Alright Hootieman this how both Messi and Xavi have performed during the six months. I finished the Demo about four days ago and now that I have looked back it seems that both players have performed well in La Liga but have been quite poor in Europe (same as team as a whole) by their high standards. I think that looking back both Xavi and Iniesta should not have had closing down all over the pitch, not sure why i did this in hindsight.

Xavi Attribures/Performance

Xavi Instructions

Messi Attributes/Performance

Messi Instructions

Team Positions

Team Instructions

I think they have played well but from the Demo it is clear that Xavi needs to chip in with a few more goals and Messi needs to create a few more goals. I think that I need to change their individual instructions slightly in order to get a bit more out of them. Hope this helps :)

I played real madrid away and won 3-1 :) yes for me its very impressive. I have never in my Fm career made a tactic and dont loose. The new tactic wiz is just great for me, since

i dont have to much time to play :). But hey its also the demo and only 6 month ;)

Yea played Henry in ST. Deep lying forward - support and Zlatan Complete forward - attack.

I startet with Di Maria on the left wing. He did okay but got injured. Then i tried Maxwell there and he surely can play there.

What about Abidal..? Have he made any mistakes in your game..? In mine 3 mistakes that lead to goals in 9 games :(.

Yeah Maxwell has great attacking stats for a winger but needs training for AML. In relation to Abidal being a liability I had a look and the following shows the defenders mistakes that have led to goals. Abidal got injured for about 3 months so only played 10 games and got injured.

Abidal 0/17

Alves 0/48

Puyol 1/40

Pique 1/43

Milito 0/11

Chygrynskyi 0/12

Maxwell 1/30

Yeah 3 mistakes that lead to goals is pretty bad! An area that needs improving.

nev147 - much better than in my save. I´ll give those instructions in my next save. Thanks alot :)

And how do you post links like that..?

Well in terms of the link, highlight the word in your post and click on the insert link at the top of the message box and type in the address of your image. But you will need to upload your image (print screen on the image on FM and save in paint and then upload to an image sharing site. I use Photobucket. Then once you have uplaoded an image from paint onto Imagebucket click on the image and there will be a direct link. Copy the link and when you are on your post highlight the text in the post and click on insert link and paste the direct link. Hope that helps. :)

*rolls on the floor giggling with laughter* I only just noticed that! Well I can't take the blame for that, I took the picture directly from the FC Barcelona website! :p

My setting's for Messi are, to a degree, very different from that. Subsequently its possibly why I have him sitting on 27 goals and 13 assists from 24 appearances. Ibrahimovic has 21 goals and Henry has 13. Left side of the field is prodominantly my "support" side, along with my midfield supporting and my Right side spear-heading the attack with Messi driving in from the right, Alves over-lapping and Ibra sitting in the "whole" between them picking up anything stray.

Anyhow, I've gotten to the end of the demo and I'm sitting comfortably top only conceeding three "negative" results which were draws to At. Madrid, Valencia and R. Madrid. The only one of which I was upset with was my Valencia game which we threw away a three goal advantage at the Camp Nou, although the blame is all mine as I was trying to go for the jugular and embarrass Valencia but it backfired badly.

Anyhow, only drew four game's in all competitions and didn't lose so was really happy with how the team performed and more importantly delighted with how my attempts at working with the ME have paid off.

I'll update tomorrow with a full update with screenshots, etc.

Well done Intercept that is quite a six months! I am itching to know messi's instructions and where you play him so I would be very grateful if you could upload them when you come to do a full update tomorrow. And can I be cheeky and ask for the same of Xavi and Iniesta and any other players please and there attributes shot to see how they have performed. Many thanks. :)

I just started as Barca and signed Milevskyi as backup for Zlatan, who plays as the lone powerhouse striker with messi as a right wing forward and henry as a left wing forward. Zlatan got injured for 2 months and Milevskyi though noted by my ass man as just a decent signing has been great, I'd highlky recommend picking him up to anyone starting as Barca, only cost me 8million euro

Opening Post Update: Updated the First Team squad with information on their "rating" and value to the team. Also how well the position is covered in the "verdict" section. It isn't 100% accurate at this point in time as I'm using previous version experience alongside what I've seen in the game so far to make my judgements. I'll update accordingly as I progress in the full version changing ratings their evaluations as I progress and with input from everyone else!

ForzaMilan

Milevskyi is an awesome player. He generally goes cheaply in the first season, like you picked him up for. Awesome little (or giant) player who is able to easily start for any team and play as backup for the likes of Ibra. Great addition to any team and nice to know he is playing well for you!

nev147

I'll get them up for you tomorrow. Just finished the "demo" and as such just updated the player information with what I've found the players to be like. I've also taken previous experience in it so it may be a little off for this year's game, but I'll change it as I learn more about how they play in this version. :)

RE:Milevskyi. Yeah he looks a good player, I actually saw him when I did an attribute search and liked the look of him. Looks a good deep lying forward or maybe a trequartista. If he had better finishing aswell as anticipation and composure then he would be up there with some of the best forwards in the game! Im not sure he looks apt at being up top on his own put with a poacher or target man ahead of him than they would complement each other well indeed! :)

Ok cheers I really appreciate it. Oh I love the ratings addition of each player and a rating as a whole, very nice touch! :)
