Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht Team Guide Thread

Welcome to the Anderlecht Team Guide!

If you have any remarks or things you'd like to see added to the thread, please feel free to post below. If you're playing an Anderlecht save, please keep us updated on your progress!

Why should I play as Anderlecht?

  • You get to manage a team full of promissing youngsters
  • You're taking over Belgiums most succesful club in terms of silverware. No team has won more trophies.
  • You'll be managing in the Belgian Pro League, which has been reformed a few years ago and now has a play off system. Some like it, others don't, but you can't argue with the excitement factor. I've had seaons in which I was clear ahead, but come March points are cut in half and the title race can really take off. It guarantees some spectacular twists and turns at the end of the season.
  • You're taking over in a time where a lot of important first team players have just left (ie Mbokani, Jovanovic, Biglia, Juhasz, ..) and Anderlecht have explicitly chosen to draw the youth card. This season has seen the debut of Youri Tielemans (16) who is regarded one of the most promissing midfielders Belgium has seen in some time, both IRL and in FM. Upon his debut comparisons were made with Vincent Kompany. He's not alone either, there's some truly great talent among these kids. Raise them well!
  • The board expects you to bring home the title for a third consecutive year, but many first team players have gone. You're asked to bring home the silverware, using mostly youngsters, which could provide somewhat of a challenge. The players on which you'll be relying for goals are all under 20. Can they handle the pressure?
  • You've qualified for the group stages of the Champions League. Given your young squad, this year may be a bit early to be in Europe though. Or is it?

History

Founded as Sporting Club Anderlechtois on 27 May 1908 by a dozen football lovers at the Concordia café (located in the Rue d'Aumale/Aumalestraat in the municipality of Anderlecht), the club beat Institut Saint-Georges in their first match by 11–8. They joined the official competition in 1909–10, starting at the lowest level in the Belgian football league system, then the 3rd provincial division. In 1912–13, they gained promotion to the second-higher level of football, then named the Promotion. After only one season at that level, the championships were suspended due to World War I, and resumed in 1919–20. With the popularity of the team increasing, Anderlecht had moved to a new stadium in the Astrid Park in 1917 (then known as Meir Park). They baptized the stadium Stade Emile Versé in honor of the club's first major patron, the industrialist Emile Versé. At the end of the 1920–21 season, Anderlecht promoted to the first division for the first time in their history. In the next 14 seasons, Anderlecht was relegated 4 times (1923, 1926, 1928 and 1931) and promoted 4 times (1924, 1927, 1929, 1935), earning themselves the mockery of local rival clubs Union Saint-Gilloise and Daring Club de Bruxelles, who nicknamed them the "lift club". In 1933, 25 years after their formation, the club changed their name to Royal Sporting Club Anderlechtois. Since their promotion in 1935, Anderlecht has remained at the top level of football. With Jef Mermans, a striker signed from K Tubantia FC in 1942 for a record fee of 125,000 Belgian francs, Anderlecht won their first league title in 1947. Their success increased in the following years as they won 6 more titles between 1949–50 and 1955–56 (winning three consecutive titles twice) and 2 more in 1958–59 and 1961–62. In the 1960s, under the coaching of Pierre Sinibaldi and then of Andreas Beres, the club even won 5 titles in a row (from 1963–64 to 1967–68), which is still a Belgian league record. The star of this team was Paul Van Himst (topscorer in 1965, 1967 and 1969 and Belgian Golden Shoe winner in 1960, 1961, 1965 and 1974).

Anderlecht played in the first European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1955–56, and lost both legs of their tie against Vörös Lobogo. They had to wait until the 1962–63 season to win their first European tie, with a 1–0 victory over Real Madrid, which followed a 3–3 draw in Spain. For the first time they advanced to the second round, where they beat PFC CSKA Sofia before losing to Dundee in the quarter-finals. In the 1969–70 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, Anderlecht lost in the final against Arsenal FC. Between 1975 and 1984, Anderlecht only won one championship but they achieved considerable European success: they won the 1975–76 and 1977–78 European Cup Winners' Cups against respectively West Ham United and FK Austria Wien, as well as the two subsequent European Super Cups. The 1982–83 season was a noteworthy season for the club for numerous reasons: former Anderlecht favourite Paul Van Himst was named the new coach, they won the 1982–83 UEFA Cup, and the rebuilding of the club stadium began. But in the domestic league, Anderlecht had to settle for second place behind Standard. Their bid to retain the UEFA Cup in 1983–84 failed at the final hurdle against English side Tottenham Hotspur. Anderlecht reached the final controversially by beating another English side Nottingham Forest with a debatable extra-time penalty to win 3–2 on aggregate. It was later found Anderlecht had bribed the referee the equivalent of £27,000 to ensure passage to the final.

After three second-place finishes in a row, the Purple and Whites secured an easy 18th title in 1984–85, 11 points ahead of Club Brugge. In 1985–86, Anderlecht won the championship again, but this time after a two-legged play-off against Club Brugge. Anderlecht won their 20th championship on the last matchday of the 1986–87 season. They then lost key players Franky Vercauteren, Enzo Scifo (transferred in the summer of 1987) and Juan Lozano (heavily injured in a game at KSV Waregem a few months earlier). A weakened team coached by Raymond Goethals finished only 4th in 1988 behind Club Brugge, Mechelen and Antwerp, but they managed to lift the Belgian Cup for the sixth time in their history, after a 2–0 victory against Standard Liège, with goals by Luc Nilis and Eddie Krnčević. The next year, Anderlecht retained the trophy with goals by Krnčević and Jankovic (again with a 2–0 win over Standard), but finished second in the championship. After his second cup win, Raymond Goethals left for Bordeaux. In the 1990s, Anderlecht reached one more European final, the 1990 European Cup Winners' Cup Final, that they lost to UC Sampdoria. The club then declined in European competitions, reaching only the 1990–91 and 1996–97 UEFA Cup quarter-finals as their best result. In national competitions, they won 4 championship titles and a cup. In the 2000s, Anderlecht secured 5 more Belgian champion titles, reaching a total of 29 titles in 2007, and 1 more cup. In the 2000–01 UEFA Champions League, they qualified for the first time to the second round, then another group stage, where they finished 3rd of their group behind Real Madrid and Leeds United. In 2009–10, the Purple and Whites won their 30th Belgian league title. In the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League, Anderlecht made history by becoming the first Belgian team to finish the group stage of a European competition with the maximum number of points, in a group with Lokomotiv Moscow, Sturm Graz and AEK Athens. They were also the only team of that year's Europa League to achieve this feat. On 6 May 2012 Anderlecht won their 31st Belgian Championship. On 22 July 2012 Anderlecht won their 10th Belgian Super Cup.

Stadium

RSC Anderlecht play their home matches at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium located within the Astrid Park in the municipality of Anderlecht. It currently has a capacity of 28,063 places, with 6,900 standing places, but the club has planned to extend the stadium to reach a capacity of 30,000 all-seated. Belgium has plans to build a new stadium for the national team games, in which Anderlecht will more than likely play their home games as well. Anderlecht has been playing in the Astrid Park since the building of the Emile Versé Stadium in 1917. The stadium was completely rebuilt in 1983 and it was renamed in honour of the then chairman Constant Vanden Stock

Anderlecht supporters hail from all over the country and only a minority come from the Brussels Capital Region. Anderlecht counts 77 fan clubs, of which five are abroad (one in France, one in Poland, one in Texas (USA) one in Montreal (Canada) and one in Sunderland (England)

Club information

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht, usually known as Anderlecht, is a Belgian professional football club based in Anderlecht in Brussels-Capital Region. Anderlecht plays in the Belgian Pro League and is the most successful Belgian football team in European competitions (with 5 trophies) as well as in the Belgian Pro League (32 championship wins). They also have won 9 Belgian Cups. They hold the record of the most consecutive Belgian championship titles, as they are the only side to have won 5 consecutive Belgian championships between 1963–64 and 1967–68.

The club was founded in 1908, first reached the highest level in Belgian football in 1921–22, and have been playing in the first division since 1935–36. They won their first major trophy after World War II, with a championship win in 1946–47. Since then, they have never finished outside the top six of the Belgian first division. They are #12 in the all-time List of UEFA club competition winners and #10 in the IFFHS continental Clubs of the 20th Century European ranking. Anderlecht have been playing their home matches in the Astrid Park in the municipality of Anderlecht since 1917. Their current stadium, Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, was first opened in 1983, and replaced the former Emile Versé Stadium. They play in purple and white outfits. They have long-standing rivalries with Club Brugge, Standard Liège and FC Brussels.

Finance-wise: you don't get a transfer budget.

What? I need to bring home the title with kids & no funds available?! Yup, that's right. If you want to bring in some new players, you'll have to sell a few first. Don't worry though, Champions League money will soon come in & the board will up your transfer budget with a few millions. You should be able to sign some players, at least in January.

Squad Analysis

V0xqj6B.jpg

Keepers

dPfYMgj.jpg

  • Silvio Proto - Your first choice at the moment. An agile keeper & decent kicker of the ball, but he lacks in reflexes, communication & one on ones. You can go with him for the first season, but I'd definately look to replace him eventually. Whether you want to bring in someone new or have the patience to wait for your youngsters to develop is entirely up to you.
  • Thomas Kaminski - One of those young promissing keepers (there's plenty more in your u19, be sure to check on them), your backup keeper. Given time to develop he could become your first choice in time. Great potential but still a bit of work ahead of him to really command that n°1 spot already.
  • Davy Roef - A decent third choice. He's also still only 19 so still has room to develop, if you're willing to give him that time.

kgfiCJb.jpg

aqT2gME.jpg

yDr7XHX.jpg

Defense

A perfect blend, you have a quality starter & an able backup for each position.

A closer look:

  • Bram Nuytinck - One of your first choice CB's. A decent allrounder, but you may want to work on his tackling & marking. He has a good pass, which will come in handy if you like to play out of defense. He's still only 23 so there's room for training.
  • Cheikhou Kouyaté - The other starter CB. Tremendous work rate & standing at 193cm it's going to be tough to beat him in the air. You can also play him at CDM.
  • Olivier Deschacht - Often underrated, he's held his own as Anderlechts' LB for many years. He's a decent complete wing back, although he isn't the most pacey customer. He's better at his defensive duties, but won't let you down often.
  • Guillaume Gillet - The new captain. He's very versatile & can be used at a number of positions. His natural position is at right back, even though he doesn't play there anymore IRL.
  • Fabrice N'Sakala - One of the new signings, Fabrice is your other option for left back. He is pacey and has good acceleration. Depending on your playing style, you'll choose either Deschacht or N'Sakala.
  • Chancel Mbemba Mangulu - A decent backup for the CB position, still only 18 so still needs some developping. Gets a fair amount of playtime IRL.
  • Andy Najar - He can play everywhere down the right flank, but he's naturally a winger.
  • Anthony Vanden Borre - Our special one. Been labelled as a wonderkid for many years, but hasn't lived up to the hype. Hasn't had the right head on his shoulders for a few years & wasted much of his talent. He's slowly finding his way back to his good form & can be a quality right back on his best days. (you'd forget this guy is still only 25 if you look at his career)
  • Leander Dendoncker - Another 18yo prospect. Can play at CB or DM. I'd use him as a backup or loan him out.

Defensive Midfielders

0C5tvxP.jpg

There's plenty of players that can play at this position, but these are the ones that are natural there:

  • Sacha Kljestan - Fabulous tache (even Zlatan said so.). He's a box to box midfielder with great work rate, but his marking lets him down.
  • Demy de Zeeuw - On loan from Spartak Moscou. He's on a huge wage (40k a month), so it's up to you to decide whether you want to keep him or not. For me, terminating his loan seems the best option, clearing up some extra funds in the process.
  • Luka Milivojevic - One of the new Serbian signings. Still only 22, but well rounded & first choice at DM for me. He makes for a good deep lying playmaker.

Gxz9sNP.jpg

fcl0NzG.jpg

Xtv5PmV.jpg

Central/Attacking Midfielders

I've bundled these 2 positions together simply because you have a lot of versatile players that can play multiple midfield positions.

For me natural CM's would be:

  • Youri Tielemans - Here he is, still only 16 but already one of the most sought after transfers in FM. He's in your youth team, but I'd promote him & give him game time asap. His stats are unbelievable for a 16yo..
  • Dennis Praet - Also still only 19, he's part of the youngsters taking over. He has great creativity & work rate. He could range from advanced playmaker to deep lying playmaker.

The attacking midfielders / wingers :

  • Massimo Bruno - first choice on the right wing. He's fast, can dribble, cross, score, good off the ball. Everything you look for in a winger.
  • Ronald Vargas - starts the game injured. Sadly he's very injury-prone so it's definately worth considering selling him.
  • Frank Acheampong - A speedy customer. A bit rough around the edges but he's worth your developping time.
  • Andy Najar - battles it out with Bruno to be your first choice winger. Bruno wins it for me, but Najar is a good backup.
  • Fede Vico - Brilliant signing from Cordoba. Was sought after by a number of big clubs but chose to join Anderlecht. Can play on either wing, up front or as AMC. His natural position is AMC. Given his passing/creativity he's a safe bet to be your advanced playmaker.

Strikers

rTpIsY3.jpg

Drum roll.. here comes another great new signing. In fact, it's Anderlechts all time record signing since they paid € 5m for him.

Mitrovic is one of Serbias highest rated prospects & can score for fun. A number of big teams were after him, but thanks to his agent being Nenad Jestrovic -who has an extensive Anderlecht past- he chose to sign for us. He'll be filling the boots of Dieumerci Mbokani & Milan Jovanovic, but boy can he live up to that. He'll surely spark some interest from big clubs, but I strongly advise you to try your best to keep him.

  • Aleksandar Mitrovic - as discussed above, this guy should have you rubbing your hands in sheer excitement. He's strong, a good header & capable of leading your attacking line on his own. Still only 18 (!) he can only get better.
  • Matias Suarez - can play just about anywhere, but I'd have him on the left, cutting in as an inside forward, or as a second forward making runs around Mitrovic.
  • Cyriac - Tremendous pace, but not the best finisher. You could keep him as a backup striker or sell him on.

Transfer Targets [WIP]

If anything, I'd recommend bringing in another central defender & maybe a central midfielder to add some strength and leadership to your young creative midfield.

Especially because a few clubs will be in to get Nuytinck & Kouyate.

Highest recommendations:

  • Mohamed Sissoko - You can snap him up for free & he's willing to join. If you terminate de Zeeuws' loan, you should have enough funds to sign Sissoko. He adds something to your team that's simply not there yet. Strength, determination, work rate. You can also use him to tutor your youngsters. Better than de Zeeuw & cheaper. A must-sign.
  • Oliver - he looks great, but Atletico don't want to sell. One to watch

Mid season update 2013-2014

cGc7ZDg.jpg

I thought I'd give a small update on how the season is going:

The league

It's going ok so far, we're on top of the table at the start of the new calendar year. As expected we've struggled to dominate games at times, due to the tender age of most my squad, but we still managed to win most games (apart from one shock defeat 5-0 away at KV Mechelen). Pleased with our progress so far, hadn't expected to do well so early on.

The cup

No difficulties here, comfortably placed for the quarterfinals, played the first leg at home against Charleroi, won 2-0. Shouldn't be a problem advancing to the semis.

Champions League

Being seeded in a group with PSG, Olympiakos & reigning champions Bayern Munchen, i was hoping for third spot & continuing in the europa league.

We finished second however. Took 3 points against PSG, 4 against Bayern & 2 from Olympiakos. Who would've guessed Olympiakos were the only side we didn't manage to beat in this group.

Next round has us facing Atletico Madrid. Unsure what to expect, but anything past the group stage is a bonus this year really.

Transfers

Transfers out:

  • Praet
  • Kljestan
  • de Zeeuw
  • Nuytinck

As expected, many big clubs constantly try to poach away our young guns.

Bids for Tielemans, Praet, Kouyate, Nuytinck, Bruno, .. come in on a regular basis. Sadly I couldn't persuade Praet to stay, I turned down a Dortmund bid but he wanted to join.

Sadly sold him for 4.3m € but fortunately they agreed to loan him back for the remainder of the season. Still have some time to find a replacement for him. I have my sights set on Oliver from Atletico, who wants to join us, but Atleti won't let him leave unless his buyout clause (24m!) is met.

Sold Nuytinck as well. Would've preferred to keep him, but frankly 5m € + 50% of next sale was something I couldn't turn down.

Kljestan wasn't getting any playtime, so I sold him as well. Got 2m € for him.

I've terminated de Zeeuws loan as I didn't feel his steep wages were anywhere near justified.

Transfers in:

  • Sissoko
  • Deotto - young talented striker
  • G. Mertens - needed some depth to compensate selling Nuytinck. Looking for someone better next season.

As far as noteworthy incoming transfers, I've snapped up Sissoko on a free transfer. A vital signing for me, as we really need some power & work-rate to balance our midfield.

Sadly he turns out to be rather injury-prone.

Notes

  • Worth mentionning is Cyriac. I've decided to keep him, for squad depth mostly. But he's actually turned out to be our most prolific scorer. He's scored every time he started so I've actually been more pleased with him than Mitrovic. Mitrovic scored 9 goals so far, but 5 of those were penalties.
  • Transfer budget has gone up to 20m €, so I should be able to get some reinforcements soon. I'll have to replace Praet next season, so the funds will be much needed.
  • I've played the 4-1-4-1 tactic for the majority of our games, which worked well but we had some difficulties getting the ball in the back of the net. In an attempt to get more out of Mitrovic, I changed to this, traded in the half back for a treq. So far it's working a treat.

End of Season 2013-2014 update

cGc7ZDg.jpg

The league

Table

We won the league fairly easy all in all. Although we sometimes gave away 2 or even 3 goal leads & drew so many games I've torn quite a few hairs out, we only lost 2 games over our entire first season. One of those was after we already qualified as champions. Very happy with our first year together.

Like I said in the mid season update, I used the 4-1-4-1 tactic (see tactics zone) for most the year. We played well with it, but at times Mitrovic was a bit isolated & we didn't always have an easy time scoring.

In an attempt to improve our goal tally, I traded in the half back for a trequarista playing behind Mitrovic (TM-s) which worked well. We started winning with a little more ease.

The cup

Table

We took home the cup as well, bringin in our third trophy this year. We didn't face the hardest teams though.

The supercup

We took this one home, too.

Champions League

Table

Atletico turned out to be too good a team for us to knock out of the league, even though we came close. Went out on aggregate 4-4. Beat them 3-2 at home but lost 2-1 at their ground.

Quite pleased with surviving the group stage.

Transfers

Transfers out:

During the entire year we've sold:

  • Praet - didn't want to let him go, but he wanted to join Dortmund & I don't want to keep unhappy players so.. 4.3m € - Dortmund
  • Nuytinck - 5m € - ajax
  • de Zeeuw - terminated loan, player not good enough for my liking + wages too high
  • Vanden Borre - didn't want to sign a new contract so decided to cash in on him. 1.3m € - Sochaux
  • Bruno - another one I'd rather have kept, but was becoming impossible for us to hold on to. 5m€ - Granada
  • Armenteros - back up player, happy to get rid of him. 1.8m € - Celtic
  • Kljestan - wasn't getting any playtime. 2.3m € - Vitesse
  • Cyriac - dropped in picking order + got a decent offer - 2.5m € Saint-Etienne
  • Proto - took Keeper of the Year but still sold him, in favor of our new signing (keeping you in suspense here, read on to see who we brought in!) - 1.9m € Almeria

We lost Praet & Bruno, but we did manage to keep a hold of Tielemans & Mitrovic so I'm fairly pleased.

We brought in some great new names as well, which brings us to:

Transfers in:

  • Sissoko
  • Deotto - young talented striker
  • G. Mertens - needed some depth to compensate selling Nuytinck. Looking for someone better next season.
  • Lucas Andersen - brought him in on loan to compensate the loss of Bruno.
  • Flavio Silva - promissing striker
  • Lulinha - Free transfer, great addition. Can play on the right or at AMC. Happy to find a free replacement for Bruno (didn't renew the Andersen loan for next year)
  • Ronaldinho - Thrilled about (one of) our (free) marquee signings. He can add something to the team + will be invaluable in the development of our youngsters. He's currently tutoring Vico.
  • Hannes Van Der Bruggen - Good prospect for central midfield. Bought him on previous saves as well & he turns out good usually.
  • Ezequiel - Gifted right back. Was wanted by the big clubs (Barca, Real, Juve,..) but chose to come to us. Offered him double what he was asking to persuade him. Looking forward to him, he'll be replacing Vanden Borre/Gillet in time
  • Thorgan Hazard - brought in on loan. Great addition as far as I'm concerned, can always fit him in somewhere.
  • Victor Valdes - Our other marquee signing. Had to switch up our transfer/wage budget to get him, but we pulled it off in the end. Thoroughly pleased. Free signing.

Really looking forward to next season. With some great additions I think we'll be very hard to beat in the league. Let's hope we can do well in Europe too.

Records

League Top Scorer: Mitrovic - changed my tactic a bit (put in a treq instead of the half back) to give Mitrovic some more support & it paid off handsomely. He banged in 24 goals. (start of the new season with Dinho behind him, he's already got 7goals in 4 games!)

Transfers 2015-2016

In

  • Ozer Cetin : Newgen brought in from Mons
  • Dario Conca : I could use an extra trequarista and saw this guy available for free
  • Agustin Allione : Fede Vico + Lulinha wanted to leave so I was looking for a new winger. Thrilled this guy was available for such a low price. Bargain
  • Fernando Silva : Same as above really, looked to add to our winger department and this guy looks class. Was a bit more expensive but worth every penny
  • Javi Garcia : An extra holding type of midfielder was required so brought him in on loan from Man City with option to buy. Didn't end up buying him, but he's proved his worth
  • Luca Caldirola : We were pretty short on central defenders as well, so was pleased I could bring Caldirola in. Has been a very reliable purchase.
  • Yassine Benzia : Had to sell Mitrovic in the end. He's been league top scorer & even won the European Golden Boot (playing for Anderlecht, that's quite the achievement. He banged in 41 goals that year). Couldn't keep hold of him anymore. Was torn between buying Benzia or Gabriel Barbosa as replacement, but ended up going for Benzia as he was 10m cheaper.
  • Franck Ribéry : Perfect replacement for Vico. Noticed he was unhappy at Bayern and jumped right in. Amazed he wanted to join us.

  • 2 weeks later...
i know they have got some amazing youngsters

are you able to keep hold of them for a few seasons to challenge in cl etc?

if i was having to sell praet, bruno etc early doors id probably not bother

Holding on to them for a few seasons might prove to be a challenge. In my first season I've lost Praet & Bruno.

Did manage to hold onto Mitrovic & Tielemans though, so it's certainly not impossible to keep hold of them

Just started as Anderlecht. Managed to keep everyone through the first transfer window. My line up is a 4-4-2: Proto; Gillet, Kouyate, Nuytinck, Deschacht; Bruno, Milivojevic, Praet, Acheampong; Mitrovic, Suarez are my first eleven.

Played the Super Cup and five matches: lost the cup after penalty's, won 3 (Oostende, Club Brugge and Standard), drew very unfortunate against Lierse and lost in the 93rd minute away at Genk. Pretty good start, confident to get the title.

Drawed Barcelona, Shakhtar and Ajax. Could go through!

What an ending to my season.

Entering the last week, I was in front of Genk with a two point lead. I had to face them at Cristal Arena though, plus, on the Wednesday before, I had the Europa League final against Napoli. Won that final 2-0 (European trophy :D) with two goals by Suarez.

The league decider saw a beautiful assist by Dennis Praet, whom I sold for five million euros in January, but was loaned back to me for the remainder of the season. Who scored? Otavio, who I brought in as back-up for Suarez and Mitrovic. Genk couldn't score and I got my first two trophies as an Anderlecht manager!

First team: Proto; Gillet, Kouyate, Nuytinck, Deschacht; Bruno, Kljestan, Praet, Acheampong; Mitrovic, Suarez.

Just finished my first season winning both the league and the belgian cup. struggled a little at the start then mitrovic and suarez started scoring for fun. I am actually really enjoying this save already. I kinda just started it randomly but after finishing 1 season i love the belgian league. I aim to keep the save going to finally attract players of kompanys quality rather than just bringing them through for them to play somewhere else in europe

Added some future seasons above + Hall of fame added as well

Our league does take some getting used to yeh. I have to say I was against the playoffs at first, but it actually keeps the league exciting til the very last day, so I actually think it makes the league more appealing. Also less dramatic to lose a game here & there in the regular season :) Good to see you're enjoying the save, keep us updated I'd say!

I'm currently in my eighth season with Anderlecht and it's been great fun. From the beginning I set out to build a young team that could dominate the league with the ultimate goal of winning the Champions League. I would recommend Anderlecht for anyone who wants to build a young team.

Safe to say that we managed that in my seventh season at the helm beating Manchester City in the final 2-1 with the winning goal coming two minutes into stoppage time. The goalmachine from France, Mohammed Appiah, scored the winning goal and was after the season bought by City for 60m pounds (my biggest sale).

Below are a few screenshots of my best players. The team that won the Champions League is very young (average age about 21) and I'd like to continue with them but I just need a challenge so maybe I'm going to change teams.

My main trouble has been producing youngsters good enough for the first team using my own youth setup but they are never good enough and I end up selling them.

Top players

Youri Tielemans - Scored on his debut as a 16 year old and has gone on to become one of the best midfielders in Europe. Plays as an attacking playmaker for us and makes plenty of assists and scores goals as well. Is the current club captain and the only players who has been a key player in all the seasons I have managed the team. I've had plenty of offers for him but he won't leave unless we get something ridiculous for him.

Morten Andersen - A right winger who plays as an inside forward. Came as a 16 year old from FC Midtjylland in Denmark for 18.5K pounds. The best signing I have ever made on FM. Won the golden boot at European Championships as a 17 year old and as gone on to be one of the best players in the world. Same as with Tielemans, he wont go unless we get something ridiculous for him.

Silvio Heinrich - Young Austrian centre back who is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Can also play as DM. Crucial part of the team but Man Utd and Real Madrid both want him so maybe I will sell for the right amount.

Antonio Gusic - Croatian centre back who plays as more of a stopper. Strong and powerful and constantly getting better.

Anthony Neveu - 17 year old French left back who has the potential to be world class. Only a matter of time until he gets called up to the France squad.

Mohammed Appiah (now at Manchester City) - Powerful striker who I had to sell as I thought I had a decent enough youngster ready to step up (Jan Olesen).

Zoran Cabraja - Croatian Defensive midfielder who has the potential to be world class. Real Madrid have been testing me with offers but I want him to reach his potential before he leaves.

Jan Olesen - Our main striker now that Appiah has left. Not yet at the level Appiah is at but he'll get there in maybe two years.
