Can you help to improve the player section of footballmanagerwiki.co.uk?

Recommended Posts

Afternoon everyone!

Even though the site is relatively new, www.footballmanagerwiki.co.uk has managed to compile over 1,000 articles on various subjects to do with Football Manager. These include information on editing the data, changing the graphical side of the game and club guides. There are also quite a lot of pages to do with various players on the the game, but we have made it our primary aim to develop the player profile side of the site next.

At the moment there are a lot of pages about football players, but few of these have Football Manager related information. The majority are all about players in real life.

Of course, there are hundreds and thousands of players on the Football Manager database, so it would be almost impossible for the few regulars to add Football Manager-related information on every page by trying out every player.

Obviously, the Good Player & Team Guide is where a lot of users tell about their experiences with various players, this is probably where a lot of people would be able to help us. Because of this, we feel you will be able to help us a lot.

We would be very, very grateful if someone could take a minute to write up a small guide to a player. This should include brief information about how to play the player and generally other information you feel is quite important. Below is an example from the site showing an ideal piece of text about a player. The player this is about is Tamas Priskin, a Watford striker.

Despite being Watford's most prolific striker in real life at the moment, Priskin should be behind Rasiak and Smith when choosing your front men. Tamás is suited to a role of a centre forward (FS) more than as a Target Man as he is a creative player when he is given instructions to do so. It would be an idea to ensure he does not come back and defend often, he is a weak player who is lacklustre defensively.

If you choose to sell Priskin on Football Manager you should look for at the very least £1million. A player with undoubted potential, he could become a great player for you and any fee less than that would not do him justice.

If you do kindly decide to write up some help to do with a player, you can either register on www.footballmanagerwiki.co.uk and post your help yourself or just post it here in this thread and I will add it to the site myself.

All contributions, big or small, will be greatly appriciated by everyone involved in the running of footballmanagerwiki.co.uk.

Thank you!

Important Information

After discussion with Purefun, there is just one thing that it is important posters know before posting.

Post boosting will no be tolerated. This means that anything such as 'Aguero is good' or 'Rooney scores a lot of goals'. I'm sure you know what post boosting refers to, so I won't develop this too much. Any post boosting will be dealt with by this forums moderators as appropriate, and it is likely to result in an official warning. There is no need to report posts from this thread - I will make sure HoPeY or Purefun are aware of them and they will be able to deal with them.

If, like we hope, we continue to develop at the rate we have been recently, we will need your help. Again, thank you very much.

Yes, there are hundreds but we're lacking FM info in an awful lot of them. Any help at all would be great.

I'll do a bit on a player. Any in particular that need done from Liverpool?
Anything at all would help. There's a link here to the current Liverpool player profile if that helps you.

Steven Gerrard

The man they call "Mr Liverpool", who is Liverpool's most important player in real life. He is the most complete player in the world and his best position's are AMC and CM. He also performs admirably in the DMC and RM slots, and could easily fill in for strikers and in defence. Giving him a free role and high creative freedom is crucial to his performances, as he loves to roam and will score lots and provide lots of assists.

Aquiring him will require top flight, world class status as well as lots of money to spend. For clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, he is available at the start for around the £70million mark.

If you choose to sell, be warned that his all round game is irreplaceable and you should look for at least £50million. His age (28) is what lowers his value and as he will not improve, £50million is a reasonable ammount.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

other than this quick bit here is a bit from liverpool fc

Once in a generation a player comes along to whom nothing seems impossible. Luckily, that man wears the No.8 shirt at Anfield.

Liverpool's inspirational captain is arguably the most complete footballer in the world. Power, pace, touch and a never-say-die attitude; Stevie G has it all, and rarely have these attributes been more apparent than when he skippered the Reds to 2005 Champions League glory in Istanbul.

The current Football Writers' Player of the Year has collected just about every medal during more than 10 years in the first team - except the Premier League. He's also captained his country and in 2006 was awarded an MBE by the Queen.

Gerrard's LFC love affair began when he was spotted playing for Whiston Juniors aged nine. Eight years later, after a period as a trainee, he signed his first professional contract.

Within 12 months the starlet had made his first-team debut, coming on as a second-half sub for Vegard Heggem against Blackburn Rovers on November 29, 1998. Gerrard played 13 games in his debut season, in part due to the injury woes of fellow midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

Persistent back and groin problems punctuated his blossoming career, though he'd managed to establish himself as a first-team regular by the start of the 1999-00 season.

It proved to be a momentous campaign for the Whiston-born youngster, not least because of a spectacular first professional goal at Anfield against Sheffield Wednesday. England coach Kevin Keegan was starting to take note.

Having already featured at U18 and U21 level, Gerrard was handed his first senior international cap against Ukraine in May 2000. From there he was selected for Euro 2000 in Holland and Belgium, but had to settle for just a single substitute appearance.

By now regarded as the complete box-to-box midfielder, he was instrumental in the Reds winning a unique treble in 2001. With the Worthington and FA Cups already in the bag, Gerrard was one of the scorers in an unforgettable 5-4 UEFA Cup final victory over Alaves. It came as no surprise when the man nicknamed the Huyton Hammer was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.

The milestones were starting to stack up for Gerrard, who kicked off the following season by netting his first international goal in the famous 5-1 trouncing of Germany in their own backyard. The win helped Sven's men secure a World Cup place, but heartbreak followed when a groin injury ruled the midfield maestro out of Japan and South Korea.

A disappointing domestic season followed, the highlight of which was a Worthington Cup final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Gerrard opened the scoring in a satisfying 2-0 win over Manchester United.

By the start of 2003-04 the midfielder had firmly established himself as Liverpool's on-field leader, and it was no surprise when Houllier handed him the captain's armband in place of Sami Hyypia.

The decision proved such a success that within six months Gerrard was captaining England against Sweden in the absence of David Beckham.

Just when it seemed things couldn't get any better for the Scouser, they did. On May 25, 2005, under new boss Rafa Benitez, Gerrard lifted the club's fifth European Cup.

Having already brought Liverpool back from the brink earlier in the campaign with a last-gasp strike against Olympiacos, the skipper helped inspire the greatest comeback of all time in Istanbul.

No one believed the Reds could overturn AC Milan's 3-0 half-time lead - until Stevie G's 54th minute header, that is.

His heroics earned him the title of UEFA's Most Valuable Player, as well as a nomination for the prestigious Ballon D'Or award. He would come third in the latter, behind Ronaldinho and countryman Frank Lampard.

In the months that followed the final, captain fantastic signed a new four-year contract at Anfield to put an end to speculation about a possible move to Chelsea.

With his future sorted, Gerrard went on to enjoy his most impressive season to date, scoring 23 goals in 53 games and being crowned PFA Player of the Year. He was the first Liverpool man to win the award since John Barnes in 1988.

The 2005-06 campaign culminated with another FA Cup win in Cardiff, with West Ham providing the opposition. If 1953 will always be remembered as the Stanley Matthews final, then 2006 will surely go down as Gerrard's day.

The No.8 twice breached Shaka Hislop's net, including a dramatic equaliser in the dying moments to send the game into extra-time and, ultimately, penalties. This 35-yard volley was voted Match of the Day's Goal of the Season.

Gerrard - who's played in just about every position for Liverpool - had now scored in four major finals, something no English-based player had ever done.

Next, in the summer of 2006 and aged 26, the Scouse sensation featured in his first World Cup. After scoring twice in the group stages, he was one of three players to miss a penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out loss to Portugal.

In the wake of defeat and Beckham standing down, Gerrard was widely tipped to be the next England skipper. New boss Steve McClaren eventually plumped for Chelsea centre-back John Terry, with the Liverpool man having to settle for the vice-captaincy.

The Kop idol returned from Germany for another eventful domestic season during which he broke Ian Rush's European Cup goalscoring record. His header against PSV was his 15th in the competition, one more than the legendary striker.

In December 2006 Gerrard was awarded an MBE, which he later collected from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

As if all this wasn't enough, the season ended with another European Cup final, and again it was AC Milan. The Reds might have lost 2-1 in Athens, but Gerrard was more than happy to pen a new four-year contract to keep him at Anfield until 2011.

Back on the international front, there was major disappointment in November 2007 when he skippered his countrymen to a 3-2 defeat against Croatia at the new Wembley - ending both England's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 and Steve McClaren's reign at manager.

The domestic season also ended without silverware despite a 21-goal haul for Gerrard including an ice-cool penalty versus Arsenal to take Liverpool to yet another Champions League semi-final.

Now a bona fide legend of the British game, the midfielder made it a century of club goals with a powerful free-kick against PSV in October 2008. In doing so, he joined an elite band of 16 Anfield legends to achieve the feat.

The strike was one of 24 for Gerrard during 2008-09, a personal record which earned him Football Writers' Player of the Year for the first time. Sadly, his haul wasn't enough to secure an elusive Premier League winners' medal, though Liverpool mounted their best challenge since 1990 before United crossed the line on the penultimate weekend.

With the Reds now established as true Championship contenders, the pride of Merseyside once again committed his future by agreeing a two-year extension tying him to Anfield until the age of 33.

How about Pacheco? he isnt on it but could i write a bit about him?

Yeah, doing a bit on Pacheco would be good. We're just mainly looking to develop Football Manager information for now - having real life information is going to take a back seat for now. Cheers mate, the Gerrard piece is added. I'll also add parts of the real life info, although I believe it is better to not have too much on there. Thanks:)

Looks good mate :)

One thing, just to make it more consistant with the rest of the ones we've done, could you call the section =Football Manager Information= please? It looks better imo if they are all consistant. Cheers :)

Also, it is better if you do not sign your pages for two reasons. Firstly, other people may edit the page so they wouldn't get the credit for it. But also because, on the page history, it shows who makes it better. I've deleted your name from the page, I hope you don't mind. Thanks again :)

Thanks for stickying it Purefun

Can I just ask that you categorise your page if you're making a new one. All you have to do is stick this at the end of the page:

[[Category:Player Profiles]]

This will make your page show up on the player profile page index.

If you're having trouble with the wiki commands and all that, it might be worth having a look here. If you've any other questions on how to work the site, just ask and I'll be happy to answer.

Nicky Lee Featherstone (born 22 September 1988 in Hull) is an English professional footballer for Hull City.

Featherstone is a striker who came through the club's youth structure. He joined the Centre of Excellence at the age of eight and signed professional terms with the Tigers in December 2006. After starring for the youth and reserve teams, he made his senior debut against Burnley on 30 December 2006, coming on as a late substitute.

In recent years Nicky hasn't featured in many Hull matches but has appeared occainsionally as a late substitute (most noticebly against Chelsea in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup). But he has showed a lot of potential to be a good striker and is the best player to have come through the Hull youth system in recent years with the only other real contender being Paul Anderson who Liverpool snapped up in 2005.

In football manager Nicky has the potential to be a good League 1 striker and even a decent Championship striker if developed well. He plays best as what is normally referred to as a FCd or a creative striker. He is very potent in front of goal but unfortunately his stats don't resemble his performances. But his stats can be improved a lot during training and if given match expierence by 4-6.

I wouldn't recommend selling Nicky until he reaches the age of 23 because his development can vary. But if you are looking to sell him try and get 200k+ and definately included a profit of next sale clause or a buy back clause.

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris (born 26 December 1986 in Nice) is a French football goalkeeper. He currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1.

Hugo began his career at his hometown club OGC Nice. He made his debut on the 18th of March 2006, at the tender age of just 19 years, against Rennes picking up a clean sheet in a 1–0 victory. He made 4 more appearances that season. The following season, Lloris was given the starting spot permanently. Hugo appeared in 37 league matches recording 13 clean sheets. His efforts that season led to him being approached by several big European clubs with hopes of signing him for the future.

During the 2008 summer Lyon agreed to sign Lloris from Nice for a fee around €8.5Million. He was given the number one shirt and replaced the departing Grégory Coupet as Lyon’s number one goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris is widely regarded as one of the best French goalkeeping talents to emerge for sometime. Since he’s been at Lyon he has built on his reputation and produced a number of strong performances which has improved his already growing reputation.

Suggestions for FM

Lloris is without doubt the best goalkeeper Lyon has in their squad; he’s extremely solid and reliable and will only continue to improve in FM09 as the season’s progress. He is simply indispensable and I would never recommend selling him.

Lloris is extremely costly to prize away from Lyon, you could well pay more than £30Million to get your hands on him, however after a few seasons he is one of the best goalkeepers around.

Mentality wise you should keep it low but still within your tactical structure. Creative freedom isn’t needed, so have this as low as possible. It is probably worth changing his distribution and setting him to throw the ball out or let one of the full backs take the ball. As his kicking game isn’t the best. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Passing – Short.

Forward runs – Rarely.

Run with ball – Rarely.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Rarely.

Cross ball – Rarely.

It's great thanks :)

Easiest way is to upload a screenie to an image hosting site and post a link somewhere on the page. We've reached the upload limit on our server so we can't take any more uploads atm. It should be possible again once we delete all screenshots from the server and re-upload them to photobucket.

That's absolutely fantastic thanks mate, much more than expected but there can never be too much!

I'm not sure if JJay (our fantastic website host) has cleared some space yet, if he has we will need a screenshot - FM09 isn't working for me so someone else will have to do it - but yes it is preferable to have have a screenshot. Cheers :)

Alan, like I suggested in (was it aPM or the other thread?) shall we make a photobucket account for fmwiki, so they are all in one place? Just so we can store them for now. Should make it easier, and will look better than having links to various people's on the site.

Then people could also upload straight to the 'site'

Daniel Pacheco

Liverpool signed Spanish prodigy Daniel Pacheco in the summer of 2007.

His transfer continued a trend of teenagers leaving Barcelona for the Premier League.

With youngsters in Spain unable to sign professional contracts until the age of 18, starlets such as Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique, Francisco Merida and now Pacheco have all been snapped up by English clubs.

The forward is a regular for Liverpool Reserves, scoring on his first start against Bolton and helping them win the league in 2007-08.

What he lacks in height he makes up for in skill, weaving his magic between the lines.

Pacheco has also represented Spain U17s, for whom he bagged a hat-trick against San Marino in October 2007.

FM

Pacheco is recommended to be loaned out to a league 1 team to give him some first team games in the first season and if he excels, look at Championship teams. If you keep him at Liverpool, give him a run in friendlies and league cup games.

He has a lot of potential and if nurtured the right way he can become a great AMC. He can also perform at striker. I would advise playing him in the AMC role with forward runs and plenty through balls to take advantage of his strengths, pace and intelligence.

It's never sure he will turn out well, it depends on his PA, but at 18, he has the stats to be world class.

We could, but how would we handle the account? What I mean is, who would be allowed hold the sign in details? I suppose we could pass on the details to whoever has an account on the site, but it might get a bit awkward.

How about this - when the server is cleared, we allow player profile screenshots to be uploaded to our FM Wiki server ONLY IF there's FM info on the page. The rest go on the photobucket account.

Anyway, it's probably best if we move this conversation to the main wiki thread to keep this thread on-topic.

Dossena

Dossena

Italy international Andrea Dossena signed from Serie A side Udinese in July 2008 as a direct replacement for departed left-back John Arne Riise.

Dossena began his career aged 14 with Hellas Verona in northern Italy, coming through the ranks before spending four seasons in the senior squad.

His big break came when he signed for Udinese in 2005, though he was immediately loaned to Treviso FBC 1993 for a year.

The defender returned to the Stadio Friuli ahead of the 2006-07 campaign, where his form eventually earned a first international cap against South Africa in October 2007.

Rafa Benitez was starting to take note, and pounced when Riise agreed a move to Roma.

Dossena made his competitive debut for Liverpool in a Champions League qualifier against Standard Liege on August 13, 2008.

The Italian's first season was most notable for late goals as the Reds knocked four past both Real Madrid and Manchester United in the same week.

FM

The first thing you will notice about Dossena is how attacking his stats are. The stats make him out to be more of a right winger. It would be advisable to give him lots of forward runs and crossing the ball often with an attacking mentality. His weakness is his defensive side, as tackling is low.

Passing – Short.

Forward runs – Often.

Run with ball – Rarely.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball - Often.

Luring him away from Liverpool isn't worth it in the first season as he has just signed for them but it is worth trying in the second season. He should go for around £7-10million, depending on if he is played.

Dossena is a decent squad player for a top 4 side, and a first teamer at an average Premier League team.

Victor Irineu in real life

Full name Victor Irineu De Souza he is a striker currently playing for Pescara in Serie C1/B, he was born on the 03/04/1989. He was born in Belo Horizonte in Brazil and has played in Italy his entire short career starting with Monza before moving to Pescara.

Victor Irineu in FM09

Irineu is possibly the biggest bargain on FM09 he is unavailable in the first season but can be bought in the second season for anywhere between 20k and 250k. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/Nantwich%20Town%20Career/IrineuNow.jpg This is what Irineu looks like at the start of the game but he can turn into this http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/Nantwich%20Town%20Career/IrineuFuture.jpg. The player is usually willing to sign for any team in a top european league or the top Brazilian league, it is also possible to lure him to the championship as long as there is not any competition from bigger clubs.

The player can go onto become a deadly striker that can play any role upfront from a lone striker to a more creative player who has the skill to feed a targetman. From personal experience I have found him to be a deadly lone striker who needs a bit of creative freedom to play at his best. The folowing settings bagged him 20 plus goals a season and in any league below the English Premier League he is capable of getting a goal a game. Best used with.

Mentality - 16

Creative Freedom - 12

Passing - Short-Mixed

Forward Runs Often

Run With Ball Often

Long Shots Rarely

Through Balls Mixed

Cross Ball Rarely

He is capable of free role or Holdu up Ball depending on the role you want him to play.

Not sure if thats the sort of thing you are looking for or not. There is not much information on him in real life really.

Yossi Benayoun

Yossi Benayoun started at Hapoel Be'er Sheva and has proceeded to become captain of Israel and Liverpool player. The winger then moved on to Maccabi Haifa after his team were relegated, despite a lot of interest from English teams.

International recognition soon came his way, with Benayoun making his full debut aged 18 against Portugal in November 1998.

After four seasons, 130 appearances and 55 goals for Haifa, the midfielder was on his way to northern Spain and Racing Santander. Benayoun enjoyed three seasons in La Liga, managing 21 goals in 101 matches before financial difficulties forced his owners to cash in.

West Ham reportedly paid £2.5million for the forward in the summer of 2005, though he instantly repaid some of his fee with two assists against Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season.

The father-of-two bagged another three goals in his final year with The Hammers, taking his total to eight in 63 league appearances.

Benayoun made his Reds debut in a Champions League qualifier against Toulouse on August 15, 2007.

Six weeks later he opened his Liverpool account with a classy run and finish in a 4-2 Carling Cup victory at Reading. More cup joy followed in November 2007 with a hat-trick in an 8-0 drubbing of Besiktas in the Champions League group stages.

Benayoun tallied 11 goals in total during his debut season at Anfield, a credible return considering he wasn't always an automatic choice.

It wasn't until the latter half of 2008-09 that Anfield began witnessing his mercurial talent week in, week out. With Liverpool gunning for the title, Rafa Benitez put his faith in the wide man and was rewarded with nine goals and countless assists.

FM

Yossi Benayoun is a decent squad player at Liverpool, although probably the most disposed of player at Liverpool. You would be looking to pay around £10million for the Israeli's services, and he would fit in perfectly at an average Premier League team.

His main asset is his dribbling, so it is advisable to put "run with ball" to "often", as well as "through balls" to "often". He is best played in the AMC slot, although can fill in on either wing, due to having good use of both feet.

Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey was signed by Arsenal at the beginning of the 2008/2009 season from Cardiff for a fee of around £5,000,000. Whilst at Cardiff, he was regarded as a major talent and was soon spotted by the Arsenal coaching staff during a game between Cardiff U18's and Arsenal U18's - a game where he played superbly, even scoring a goal as well.

He was made known to the world after an appearance in the 2008 F.A. Cup final against Portsmouth. He later moved to Arsenal after rejecting offers from Everton and, most surprisingly, Manchester United. Aaron Ramsey chose Arsenal as he felt it would be better for his career.

Ramsey made over 20 appearance altogether in his debut season with Arsenal. He wasn't outstanding, but his performance against Fernabache in the Champions League is very noteworthy - coming off the bench towards the end with Arsenal 4-2 up, Ramsey fully enjoyed himself and bagged what may have been the goal of the game.

Arsenal fans alike are already touting him as the replacement for Cesc Fabregas, if and when the Spaniard decides to move on.

In Football Manager

Aaron Ramsey is one of Arsenal's top prospects in amongst a talented bunch of youngsters. At 17, he already has some great stats in key attributes for his Central Midfield role - his passing and technique being the most noticeable. He is very well capable filling in for Fabregas whenever the captain is injured - particularly at the start of the game.

With a

-9

potential, it is very likely that Ramsey turns out to be a good player at the very least. He can become the main play maker for any side and don't be surprised if teams like Manchester United make bids for him. For payers of Arsenal, he is worth keeping hold of but if he does not figure in your plans, you could easily make some decent money.

In terms of development, Ramsey develops quite quickly provided he gets plenty of first team action.

Being poor at the defensive side of the game, it is worth playing Ramsey with a high mentallity and creative freedom. Also, it may be worth training Ramsey as an AMC so that he can play higher up the pitch. He lacks the necessary stats to play as a deep-lying playmaker. His shooting isn't bad either and he is prone to rattle in a couple of screamers given the chance.

Hope this is okay!

EDIT: Oh yes, here's a screenie.

Here's another:

Francis Coquelin

Francis Coquelin is a French defensive midfielder who was signed by Arsenal at the start of the 2008/2009 season. Not much was known of Coquelin at the time and he came in very much under the radar of many fans. He was signed from Stade Lavallois.

Coquelin impressed in the U18's and the reserves for Arsenal and was instrumental in their Youth Cup success in 2009. Although he does not have a massive physical presence, Coquelin has a high work ethic and is a tough tackler who likes to get stuck in.

Moreover, Coquelin also has a fine range of passing and a good reading of the game. He is very much in the Makelele mould and should become a good player for Arsenal in the future.

He made his debut against Sheffield United in the Carling Cup third round, helping his team to a 6-0 victory.

In Football Manager

Coquelin only has a potential of

-8

and thus will only become a decent player for Arsenal or any other club of that stature. However, he can be decent back-up for the DM spot.

His technical stats very much sway towards the defensive side of the game, with a decent tackling stat to work with. His tackling stat combined with his high bravery stat means he is effective in the challenge. However, his positioning is below average and his pace is nothing special - thus, they need to be worked on.

Fortunately, he has high stats for work rate and determination which means he will improve given time.

For lower league sides, he would be avaliable on loan for the first season and can probably be purchased for a cheap price as well. He would be a very good signing for Championship side looking for a DM and may very well be leading star in the future.

Fernando Torres

"We bought the lad from sunny Spain, he gets the ball and scores again."

The Kop has a new idol by the name of Fernando Torres - and no one makes the famous stand bounce like Liverpool's No.9.

Signed for a club record fee of approximately £20 million in July 2007, El Nino was handed the shirt vacated by Anfield legend Robbie Fowler.

He started off at Atletico Madrid and was given the captaincy while still a teenager, which he feels hampered his development. He now seems to have caught up and even is a regular for Spain.

FM

Torres is arguably the best striker in Football Manager and reaches insane levels at times. To buy him would take funds of £40million +, depending on how well Liverpool are doing. He is very loyal to the club, therefore unsettling him is very rare, but whatever you spend will be worth it. He should not be sold for under £50million, and teams like Barcelona and Arsenal will enquire. He will improve as he still has PA to fulfill, so stats are still likely to go up.

He is the focal point of Liverpools attack and plays best as a lone striker, usually with Steven Gerrard just behind him. Give him high creative freedom, and it would be worth letting him learn the PPM's "run with ball through middle" and "place shots". Give him the instructions as follows -

Run with ball - Often

Forward runs - Often

Cross ball - Mixed

Through balls - Mixed

Long shots - Mixed

Of course the "mixed" can be set to rarely or mixed.

Robin van Persie

The son of two artists, van Persie was encouraged to follow in his parents' footsteps, but he instead preferred football and joined SBV Excelsior's youth squad at the age of 4. He made his breakthrough at hometown club Feyenoord, where he spent three seasons and won the 2002 UEFA Cup. Disagreements with coach Bert van Marwijk culminated in a change of club and van Persie moved to Premier League side Arsenal for £2.75 million in 2004.

Robin van Persie featured rarely for Arsenal during his first season, fighting for playing time along side fellow striker Jose Antonio Reyes. However, injuries prevented him from having a run of games in the side and no one quite knew the extent of van Persie's abilities.

In the 2005/2006 season, Arsenal fans saw glimpses of van Persie's talent with him scoring some brilliant goals. In the Champions League group stage against Sparta Prague, van Persie almost scored the quickest ever hat-trick in the Champions League have scored a quick fire double after coming off the bench.

With the retirement of Denis Bergkamp, van Persie became a first team regular for Arsenal and many were hoping he would become just as good. Arsene Wenger described him as a "Denis Bergkamp with goals."

In 2006/2007, van Persie scoring what was arguably his best ever goal - smashing home a volley from 20yards against Charlton at the valley. It was described by Wenger as "technically perfect".

Injuries once against hampered van Persie's run in the side, but he managed to stay fit for the majority of Arsenal's 2008/2009 campaign and quickly established himself as one of Arsenal's best players. He has recently been voted as Arsenal's Player of the Year and for good reason - van Persie either assisted or scored every goal for Arsenal during the month of January, finished as Arsenal's top goal scorer and was joint top in the League Assists table alongside Frank Lampard. Wenger described him as "top, top class."

Robin van Persie recently signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal, ending speculation of a move away from the Emirates to join the likes of Inter Milan, Machester United and Manchester City. He claimed that "he couldn't imagine himself wearing another shirt other than Arsenal's."

In Football Manager

Van Persie is a technically gifted player with world class first touch and technique. He is one of Arsenal's key players and should not be sold. If he has to be sold, it must be for a £20,000,000+ at least.

He is the ideal FCd for almost any club. He lacks the pace to play as an FCa and his shooting can be wasteful at time thanks to average composue and the Preferred Move "Likes to shoot with power". He is two footed and is an excellent set-piece taker and when in form, he rattles them in from almost anywhere.

However, van Persie does have a couple of down sides. Most namely is his low natural fitness meaning he is rather injury prone. Also, he has a tendancy to get into trouble with officials and pick up red cards although that shouldn't be a problem if he tackles normally and not hard.

When using van Persie, it is best to give him a medium mentallity so that he plays deeper and help influence the play. High creative freedom may be an option as well. Also, it may be benefical to give him long shots often as he has high stats for long shots and technique.

Giorgio_Chiellini.jpg

Giorgio Chiellini (born August 14, 1984 in Pisa) is an Italian footballer who plays for Serie A club Juventus. He is a centre back who started his career playing as a left-back.

He started playing football at 6 years of age for Livorno and at first was used as a central midfielder. He was signed by Juventus in summer 2004, for €6.5 million from Livorno, but immediately sold on co-ownership deal to Fiorentina for €3.5 million, where he played for 2004–05 season. After an excellent first season in Serie A, Chiellini was recalled by Juventus for the 2005–06 season, where Juventus paid €4.3 million for full-ownership. He won the 29th League with Juventus that year. He has been a regular fixture in the Bianconeri backline in their return to Serie A and was named "Man of the Match" in a game against Internazionale when he won a physical and heated duel with ex-Juve teammate Zlatan Ibrahimović, allowing the in-form hitman no goals. Chiellini extended his original contract from until 2009 to 2011 on October 12, 2006.

Chiellini made his debut for the Italian national team in November 2004 against Finland, and has since become a regular squad member. He won the European Under-19 Championship with Italy in 2003, and was also a member of the Italy team that won the bronze medals at the football tournament of the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was named in the 'UEFA Team of the tournament' of the 2007 U-21 Championships held in the Netherlands where they qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Chiellini was called up to Italy's squad for Euro 2008, and infamously injured fellow teammate and former FIFA World Player of the Year, Fabio Cannavaro in a training session, that resulted in Cannavaro missing out on the tournament While he featured in the group games against Romania and France, his most impressive display was arguably to come against Spain in the quarterfinals, where he famously neutralized the threat of the Spanish attacking duo of David Villa and Fernando Torres.

In Football Manager

Giorgio Chiellini is one of the best, if not the best CB in Football Manager. With great key defensive attributes - Tackling, Marking, Heading, Bravery, Positioning and so on.

Chiellini is best suited as the left CB, but he can also play very well as a left full back.

Chiellini will do well with the usual CB instructions so not much to comment here. Altough it's a good thing to set Chiellini in the Attacking Corners section to attack the keeper, he'll do great job there, and will score some. If you want him as CB you can ask him to forget PPMs - 'Gets forward whenever possible' and 'Runs with the ball down left'

The Italian is very solid and consistant, he does play well for the whole season. It's very fast for him to gain the World-class description. He doesnt suffer injuries often.

The price? For me he's priceless, altough the AI Juventus seem to let him go for £12M~£15M in the first window, about £20M in the winter, and after that it will be an HUGE price. Really worth signing

Can I just stress again that real life information is not our priority at this time and preferably we wouldn't like full pages copy and pasted directly from wikipedia. Having bits and pieces is fine, but any pages that have nothing but text from wikipedia could well be deleted some time in the future. Nothing fully decided on yet though :)

Ryan Bennett (born March 6, 1990, Orsett) is an English football player, who plays as a defender for Grimsby Town. He is currently the clubs Captain, having earned that right at the age of 19.

Ryan is a poor mans John Terry but he is a real lower league gem and can be picked up for a price as little as 18k. If developed well he can become EPL material but that's around as far as he will go. But he is very cheap and can sold on after a couple of years for over 2m pounds. Thats nearly 200 times more than what you brought him for. Also he's a determined player and is captian material.

Tactical Instructions:

Foward Runs: Rarely

Run With Ball: Rarely

Play Through Balls: Rarely

Long Shots: Rarely

Cross Ball: Rarely

A couple more for me;

Cris

Cris or to give his full name Cristiano Marques Gomes (born 3 June 1977 in Guarulhos, Brazil) is a Brazilian center back currently playing for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Cris is Lyon’s best defender, he reads the game well, is strong and can hold his own. His only weakness is he lacks real pace. However this can be combated with being paired with a pacey centre back. Cris will do a great job for around two-three seasons so you shouldn’t have to worry about him for a little while. I would never consider selling Cris as his experience and tutoring compatibles are invaluable.

Mentality wise you should keep it fairly low but still within your tactical structure. Creative freedom should be kept quite low, so around 6-8 notches. You should set his passing to short, or around notch 8 as you don’t really want him doing anything fancy. I would leave his tackling on mixed as he has the correct stats to make a good judgement when to tackle hard or easy. You can also have tight marking ticked but that is optional. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Passing – Short.

Forward runs – Rarely.

Run with ball – Rarely.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Rarely.

John Mensah

John Mensah (born November 29, 1982 in Obuasi) is a Ghanaian football player who plays for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Mensah has all the attributes to be a top defender with the exception of his jumping stat. This is his only real weakness; because of his low jumping stat this makes him not good enough to be Lyon standard. So I always look to sell him, you can usually get between £8-12Million for Mensah.

Mentality wise you should keep it fairly low but still within your tactical structure. Creative freedom should be kept quite low, so around 6-8 notches. You should set his passing to short, or around notch 8 as you don’t really want him doing anything fancy. I would leave his tackling on mixed as he has the correct stats to make a good judgement when to tackle hard or easy. You can also have tight marking ticked but that is optional. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Rarely.

Jean-Alain Boumsong

Jean-Alain Boumsong (born December 14, 1979, in Douala, Cameroon) is a professional football defender who currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Boumsong is poor; he’s not good enough to play for Lyon so you should always look to sell him. He can be quite hard to offload however anything around £4-6Million is a good deal for him.

Mentality wise you should keep it fairly low but still within your tactical structure. Creative freedom should be kept quite low, so around 4-6 notches. You should set his passing to short, or around notch 8 as you don’t really want him doing anything fancy. I would leave his tackling on mixed. You can also have tight marking ticked but that is optional. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Fabio Grosso

Fabio Grosso (born 28 November 1977 in Rome) is an Italian World Cup-winning fullback currently playing for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Grosso will do an excellent job for the first two seasons; he’s good going forward and solid defensively. He’s also provides good service with his set pieces and has never missed a penalty for me in the twelve he has taken so far. Should you wish to sell him I’d look for around £6-9Million at least.

Mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept around the middle notch or if you’re playing attacking you could increase it. Passing should be between notches 7-11 depending on how you play. If you haven’t got a penalty taker any better than Grosso I suggest you let him take them he won’t let you down. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be

Forward runs – Often or Mixed.

Run with ball – Mixed or Often.

Long shots – Mixed.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Often or Mixed.

François Clerc

François Clerc (born April 18, 1983 in Bourg-en-Bresse) is a French footballer who plays at right back for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Clerc is a solid squad player, he will do a job but without the fireworks. Going forward he is effective while being solid defensively. Unfortunately if you’re playing on 9.3.0 he will start of injured (for around 8 months) so he’ll be on the sidelines for most of the first season. Should you wish to sell him I’d look for between £6-12Million.

Mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept around the middle notch or if you’re playing attacking you could increase it. Passing should be between notches 7-11 depending on how you play. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Forward runs – Often or Mixed.

Run with ball – Mixed or Often.

Long shots – Rarely or Mixed.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Often or Mixed.

Anthony Réveillère

Anthony Réveillère (born November 10, 1979 in Doué-la-Fontaine) is a French footballer currently at Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Réveillère is a decent player, a good backup or squad player to have. He’s decent going forward and reliable in his defensive duties. Again he will start of injured if you’re playing 9.3.0 so this can be problematic. Personally I always sell him, as I can bring in a better player for much less, if you chose to sell him look for around £6-9Million.

Mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept around the middle notch or if you’re playing attacking you could increase it. Passing should be between notches 7-11 depending on how you play. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Forward runs – Often or Mixed.

Run with ball – Mixed or Often.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Often or Mixed.

Thought I'd cut out the real life information and just focus on them in FM. I’ll do a couple more shortly.

Few more on the defensive side;

Sébastien Faure

Sébastien Faure (born January 3, 1991 in Lyon, France) is a French centre back who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Faure is one of those youngsters which can turn out good, decent or fairly poor. Depending on the PA he gets in your save. Often he turns out decent but never to Lyon standard. If you wish to sell him look for around £500K-1.5Million if not a little more depending how far in the game you are.

Instructions wise will depend on how he has developed in your game. However for the basics, mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept quite low. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be

Passing – Short.

Forward runs – Rarely.

Run with ball – Rarely.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Rarely.

Cross ball – Rarely.

Lamine Gassama

Lamine Gassama (born October 20, 1989 in Marseille, France) is a French footballer of Guinean/Senegalese descent who currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Gassama is one of Lyon’s best prospects at the start of the game; much will depend on his PA as he can be either a decent player or a good player. Gassama can play either left back, right back or centre back so his versatility is a good asset. I wouldn’t sell Gassama until he has fully developed.

Instructions for him will depend where you play him (i.e. full back or centre back) however to cover the basics; mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept quite low. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be

Passing – Short.

Forward runs – Mixed or Rarely.

Run with ball – Mixed or Rarely.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Mixed or Rarely.

Cross ball – Mixed or Rarely.

Timothée Kolodziejczak

Timothée Kolodziejczak (born October 1, 1991 in Avion, Pas-de-Calais, France) is a French footballer of Polish descent who plays for Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.

Suggestions for FM

Kolodziejczak usually turns into a good left back after a few seasons so I often keep him and get him tutored by Grosso. I slowly introduce him to first team football and let him develop over the years. I wouldn’t sell Kolodziejczak especially not until he has fully developed.

Mentality wise you should keep it within your defensive structure. Creative freedom should be kept around notches 7-9. Passing should be between notches 7-11 depending on how you play. Otherwise the rest of his instructions should be;

Forward runs – Mixed or Often.

Run with ball – Mixed or Often.

Long shots – Rarely.

Try through balls – Mixed.

Cross ball – Mixed or Often.

Should probably double check these for possible typo's, I usually end up waffling. :D

EDIT;

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, born 5 February 1985, is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger for Spanish club Real Madrid (Manchester United in FM) and serves as captain of the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo currently holds the distinction of being the most expensive player in football history after having transferred to Real Madrid in a deal worth £80 million. His contract with Real Madrid is also expected to make him the highest-paid player in the world.

Suggestions for Football Manager

Ronaldo is one of the best players in the game, if not the best. He can be trained to playes as a centre forward, and wiht the right instructions he can be lethal. His natural position is AMR. He can be sold for over £50m, but he would be a star for every single team in FM.

Since his attacking stats are so good, it is good to get him in positons just outside the box. He can then cut inside and score.

Tactical Settings for AMR

Forward runs – Often

Run with ball – Often

Long shots – Rarely

Try through balls – Rarely

Cross ball – Mixed

Free Role ticked also. Creative freedom can be quite high also, because of the pure skill he has.

Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo (born 2 June 1988 in Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine footballer who currently plays as a striker for Spanish football team Atlético Madrid and the Argentine national team.

Suggestions for Football Manager

Agüero can be bought for £40m upwards at the start of the game. He is a world-class striker, but also he can play attacking midfield aswell. If you start of as Atletico, you should try and keep him. Big clubs will become interested in him, but he is Atletico's best player.

Tactical Settings for Striker

Forward runs – Mixed

Run with ball – Often

Long shots – Rarely

Try through balls – Mixed

Cross ball – Mixed

The settings will mean he will drop deep to recieve the ball aswell as stay up top. Because of his driibling skills it is good to get him to run with ball, as he can score some brilliant goals like this.

Also set him to be a target man. Target man supply should be at - to feet/run onto ball.
