Baldyloxxx
......because i am actually enjoying fm more this year because i find it a lot more challenging, but i have noticed that there seems to be a lot of occassions when my players are 1 on 1 or have an abseloute sitter and dont score. And i mean a lot. Same with the opposition. Is thisjust me? Also, a lot of pens missed (tevez and rvp taking mne) and ive scored 1 free kick in 2 and a half seasons. Al_Pacino
Likewise - I hit the post/bar at least twice per match, every match, no matter which team I am managing.
Robsy1990
I've only scored one free kick in six seasons of play, SI maintain that the number of free kicks scored in a season is reflective of real life though... I don't hit the woodwork every game, but will have some games relatively frequently when I will hit it 2/3 times. Also I had a problem with 1 on 1s, had to change my tactics after some advice from some helpful guys on these forums and the problem has been eased. scott MUFC
the free kick goal ratio is terrible. the game happily scored them against me but never the other way round. with blackpool the team works the free kick to be like a corner soi score from a guy heading in lol. i had a player score 2 goals, then go on to miss a penatly miss a few sitters and 1 on 1's and hit the post. interesti88
Buy Wesley Sneijder and all your free kick woes will be solved:D
Smurf
Here's a list of Free Kicks scored in the Prem already this season http://www.kickoff.co.uk/291/scoring-patterns-in-the-premier-league/ It doesn't happen that often. For some teams it hasn't happened at all. For a good direct free kick taker they will need - Composure, Creativity and Finishing all fairly high, above 15. And you will also need "decision making" to be fairly high. As not all Free Kicks are direct. So, on top of all these you need Crossing. Composure, Creativity, Decision Making, Crossing - all fairly high - and you'll have yourself a free kick specialist. You'll also need someone with good heading ability in the box for the crosses. Impale
Those stats are 2 months out of date though. As much as I adore the game, I think I've scored no more than 3 free-kicks in 8 seasons.
Smurf
You might have been looking at the FK stats. Have a look at the DFK (direct Free Kicks) That's up to November Home Games Just three goals have been scored from ‘Direct Free-Kicks’ by November - in the Prem League. Away Games Just two goals have been scored from ‘Direct Free-Kicks’ Most Direct Free Kicks scored Sebastian Larsson of Sunderland, with two, is the only player to have netted more than one ‘Direct Free-Kick’ I know it's only up to November. But it's not as if teams are scoring DFK week in week out.
bolulu
Mind you, that the poor conversion rate for direct free kicks is more than over-compensated for by the ultra-high conversion rate from corners!
Smurf
Well as you can see from the November stats At home Wolves have netted the greatest percentage of their goals from ‘Corners’ (40%) Away Manchester City netted five One in every four goals scored by QPR has come from a ‘Corner’ Manchester City, with seven, have scored more than twice as many goals from ‘Corners’ as their nearest challengers (Manchester United with three)
DuncanJM
On my liverpool save douglas costa (20 free kick taking:)) has score 9 free kicks in 3 seasons. I would say thats realistic, i would expect larsson to get 3 this season for sunderland.
nev147
For a good direct free kick taker they will need - Composure, Creativity and Finishing all fairly high, above 15. Is that fact? I thought creativity would be an open play attribute and not a set play attribute?
Smurf
That's what I've read on several blogs dedicated to FM and what they say about free kick takers. Perhaps creativity won't have to be as high as 15.
Baldyloxxx
Well, I wonder what the ratio of free kicks won and free kicks converted is irl? Cause I get a lot.
Smurf
Check the link in post #6 I can't find a more up-to-date stat. Seems there aren't any. I guess you'd have to go through Opta or something? Here's a comparison that probably proves absolutely nothing. I know C.Ronaldo takes a majority of the free kicks for Real. And he takes something like 250 shots a season. This season he has App = 17 Goals = 21 Assists = 6 Shots =112 Compared to someone like Messi who doesn't take free kicks App =17 Goals = 17 Assists =7 Shots = 81 Say last Season Ronaldo had 358 shots on goal 140 on target and scored 56 Compared to Messis 255 shots on goal and 130 on target and scored 51 I'd say a lot of goals that Ronaldo gets are from Free Kicks & Penos and Messi are probably more likely from open play. Ronaldo missed 218 shots Messi missed 125 shots Ronaldo missed about 45% more shots compared to Messi. How many Ronaldo got from open play is another story altogether. I'm just going by probably Ronaldo regarded a good Free Kick taker, and Messi a more open goal kinda person and not a free kick taker.
steve-0271
the only player ive managed in football manager that has scored multiple freekicks season after season is Ivan Rakikic when i signed him for AC Milan in FM11. easily score 7 to 12 a season for 4 season. was awesome, he had high attributes for freekicks , long shots etc..
