The Wombles make 'Crab' Meat out of Charlie

After a poor start to the season AFC Wimbledon have sacked their manager Charlie Crabs. Crabs guided the Wombles to the BSP after winning the play-offs but had a bad season last year as Wimbledon came straight back down to the BSS. They were expected to bounce straight back up, but the relegation hit them hard and they are currently just above the BSS relegation zone. A club spokesperson told us that a fresh approach was needed -

"Charlie had a fantastic first season with us, but last season didn't go according to plan and we found ourselves back in the BSS. We had hoped we would bounce straight back up, but we have had a poor start to the season. Charlie had to go, not only because of the poor results, but because he has the most annoying cockney accent and to be honest we just didn't want to hear it anymore, as Charlie would say, 'The Wombles are in a bit of Barney'.

Nelson's Future a no 'Brainer' for the Iron

After a very poor start to the season, a 3-0 defeat to Hampton & Richmond was enough to see Edward Nelson sacked by Braintree. After guiding Braintree to mid table two seasons running Nelson was expected to guide them to the play-offs this season. However they find themselves at the wrong end of the table. Braintree had no choice but to let Nelson go. We spoke to Braintree earlier today -

"Edward did ok in his first two seasons and was expected to push on this season and reach the playoffs. However we have had a terrible start to the season and relegation is not on option for Braintree. We feel that Edward has been distracted lately with a rekindling of his brain experiments. We feel that asking the players if he could take a look at their brains led to a drop in morale and subsequently the players not wanting to play for Edward. He just keeps wondering the corridors muttering 'brains, brains' and we just can't have that."

Jake Makes a 'Nash' of it at Telford

Jake Nash has suffered a similar fate to that of Charlie Crabs. Nash had a fantastic first season with AFC Telford winning the BSN. However the BSP proved to be a tough test and Telford were relegated. This season Telford have suffered a post relegation hangover and found themselves near the bottom of the table instead of challenging for the title. WE spoke to a Telford representative -

"Nash had a good background in youth coaching when he arrived and he did a fantastic job in taking Telford to the BSP. However the step up was too much to quick for Nash and I think the disappointment of relegation has affected his management this season. He's a great bloke but he just wasn't doing the business. We need a more hardcore controversial manager to inject a bit of fire into the lads..."

1,2 Josy's coming for you..

Just three days after Telford sacked Jake Nash they have hired Josy Joseph! Josy has been out of work since he was fired by Bromley nearly a year ago, we spoke to AFC Telford to ask a very simple question... why?

"As we said when we fired Nash, we wanted someone a bit more controversial, someone who could get the players going again. Also Josy has used his year off betting on the horses and has won a significant amount, he used that money to bribe our chairman... sorry I mean he made a substantial donation to the club, showing his love for the team... yes, that's it."

Zhang's back? What a load of 'Cobblers'

Robert Zhang left Singapore Armed Forces FC when his contract expired on 1st December 2010. However he wasn't unemployed for long. Zhang has made a return to England and has signed for League 2 side Northampton. This is a step up for Zhang and he will be hoping that he can develop his skills at the Cobblers. We caught up with a Northampton spokesperson -

"We first noticed Zhang whilst he was at Stalybridge. He had some kind of crisis when his dad was sacked and moved back to Singapore. However his contract expired and we took the opportunity to sign him on a free. We fell he has very good potential and hope that he can be a star for us in the years to come."

The Times

1st February 2011

Well it was a horrid start to the season for some of our 'fan' managers, and for three of them it got even worse, as we now know, Jake Nash, Charlie Crabs and Edward Nelson have all been sacked and are currently unemployed. It was however good news for Josy Joseph, who, after nearly a year out, jumped in and took over the AFC Telford job before Nash had even had the chance to take down his faded superman poster from his office.

The other big news was Robert Zhang's move to League 2 side Northampton, can Robert break into their first team? We shall see.

Time for the tables -

League 2

Blue Square Premier

Blue Square North

Blue Square South

Welsh Premier League

So it looks as though Robert Zhang should be playing League 1 football next year with Northampton currently sitting 2nd, only behind Bury (who were also interested in Zhang) on goal difference and 5 points ahead of 3rd place Chesterfield.

In the Blue Square Premier Tom Hamilton continues to do well with Southport who currently sit 12th, 10 points above the relegation zone. It looks as though Southport should be in the BSP again next year. However, it doesn't look likely that Cristobal Blanco's Welling will be there with them. They have moved off the bottom of the table but are a massive 10 points from safety, it will take a huge effort to preserve their BSP status now.

In the Blue Square North Patton Cooper's Workington seem to have fallen of the pace slightly and find themselves in 7th, although they have 2 games in hand on most teams and winning them would see them move into a play off position. Ben Cee's Vauxhall are doing ok in 13th place with an interesting record of 9-9-9, let's hope they don't need that number come the end of the season! Finally, Josy Joseph's AFC Telford find themselves in a lowly 16th, but they have lots of games in the hand and winning them could see them shoot up the table. If they have a good late run of form they could even reach the play offs. It's strange, Josy went so long without a job and now he has been hired by Telford, BSS side Maidenhead are interested in signing him.

In the Blue Square South Stew Ferguson's Chelmsford are ticking along nicely and find themselves in 2nd place, three points behind leaders Lewes and 5 points ahead of Merthyr, it's looking likely that they will reach the play-offs and possibly even win the league. Sam Ralph's Bognor occupy their usual mid-table position, 14th place and 8 points clear of relegation means they are likely to stay safe for another year.

Finally, in the Welsh Premier League Charlie Zhang is doing a great job at Welshpool. They are in 4th place only 3 points of the leaders TNS. Can Charlie Zhang become the first 'fan' manager to reach Europe?

Job Security -

All managers who still have a job are safe.

Awards -

It's been very quiet on the awards front, very very quiet. Only two awards have been won and they were both by Charlie Zhang. He was 3rd in the Welsh Premier League's October Manager of the Month, but even better, he won the January Manager of the Month Award. Everyone else really needs to step up their game! (Although it was a surprise that Stew Ferguson didn't get a mention in the BSS Manager of the Month Awards.)

Stats -

Blue Square Premier - Team Stats

Southport have scored the joint fifth most goals in the league, so a strengthened defence could see them challenging for the play offs next season.

Blue Square Premier - Player Stats

Welling's one hope is the magnificent Juan Blanco, An average rating of 7.33 makes him the best player in the league.

Blue Square North - Team Stats

Telford have been in good form of late with three wins in five. Workington have a strong defence but are a bit lacking up front, a good striker could see them leap up the league. Vauxhall have the joint third best defence in the league, shame they can't score.

Blue Square North - Player Stats

Coop Cooper has being doing well and has 8 assists.

Blue Square South - Team Stats

Chelmsford are in good form at home and have been banging in the goals, whilst not conceding many, that's why they're 2nd!

Blue Square South - Player Stats

The only mention here goes to Miles Johnson who has completed 79% of his passes.

Welsh Premier League - Team Stats

Welshpool are in good form and are looking solid at the back, a few more goals up front and they could mount a serious title challenge.

Cup Update -

After Southport's good run last season it was hoped that we would see more teams challenging in the cups, it was not to be.

in the Conference League Cup none of our managers made it to the Quarter Finals.

CLC - North Third Round

CLC - North Fourth Round

CLC - South Third Round

CLC - South Fourth Round

Workington and Southport both reached the North Fourth Round, but Southport were knocked out 1-0 by Wrexham and Histon beat Workington 3-1.

Welling were the only team to reach the South Fourth round, but they then suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to BSS side Sutton Utd.

In the FA Cup our teams did ok, but there were no third round appearances.

FA Cup - Fourth Qualifying Round

FA Cup - First Round

FA Cup - Second Round

FA Cup - Second Round Replay

Welling, Workington and Chelmsford all reached the First round but only Chelmsford progressed with a 2-1 win over Leigh Genesis. Welling lost 2-0 to Stockport and Workington lost 3-1 to Port Vale.

In the Second Round Chelmsford did well to draw 2-2 at home to Chesterfield but lost the replay 3-1.

The FA Trophy didn't bring any luck either.

FA Trophy - First Round

FA Trophy - Second Round

Only AFC Telford made it to the second round but they were knocked out 2-0 after extra time by Tamworth.

The only good news on the cup front comes from Wales.

Welsh Cup Third Round

Welsh Cup Fourth Round

Welsh Cup Quarter Finals

Welshpool beat RTB Ebbw Vale in the Fourth Round and now face a tough test against Newtown in the Quarter Final.

Staff Members -

Ben Cee will be happy as Rachel Brown and Jamie Schober have now separated in Reserve Group 9. Vauxhall Reserves are currently 6th, whereas AFC Telford Reserves are 11th. Perhaps Schober is not happy about the sacking of Jake Nash and the subsequent hiring of Josy Joseph. The fact that he didn't leave with Nash shows a lack of loyalty!

Players -

Coop Cooper has continued to feature in the Workington first team and has repaid his managers faith with a solid average rating of 6.71 and 6 goals (3 of which have come in his last 5 games!).

Jerome Joseph has been doing well at Bromley even if he's not been amazing. An average rating of 6.71 and 7 goals means there isn't much to separate him and Coop Cooper.

Juan Blanco continues to be fantastic for Welling. He has an average rating of 7.30 and has scored 16 goals, if Welling are relegated he could be off in the summer.

Junior Khanye Jr still wants to be transfer listed which continues to affect his game. If he carries on with an average rating of 6.40 nobody will want to buy him anytime soon.

Liam Ferguson continues to have a good season with Tamworth He has an average rating of 6.98 and has scored 12 goals.

Miles Johnson is having another great season with Bognor and has scored 12 goals with an average rating of 7.20. Unfortunately for Bognor it will be his last season as he will be moving to Airdrie at the end of his contract, how will Bognor cope!

Robert Zhang has only made 1 sub appearance for Northampton so far, but he has finally made his debut for the Singapore national team and now has 1 cap.

Ryan Lamb is currently injured for 4-5 weeks, but has still made 25 appearances for Braintree. However the departure of Edward Nelson seems to have affected him and only has an average rating of 6.59. It is likely he will be off at the end of the season as his contract expires. Partick Thistle and Finn Harps are both interested in signing him.

Tom Hamilton Jr has been injured but has still played 19 games and has a decent average rating of 6.85 and has scored 6 goals.

Charlie Embarks on an Irish 'Crusade'

In an unexpected move, ex AFC Wimbledon manager, Charlie Crabs, has become the new manager of Crusaders, who are currently in the Northern Irish 1st Division. The Crusaders were expected to win the league but find themselves off the promotion chase, which is why a new manager has been brought in. We spoke to a club spokesperson about the appointment -

"Top of the mornin to ya. We wanted to bring in a manger who has tasted success, and to be sure that fellow Crabs has. He may have got AFC Wimbledon relegated again, but we'll ignore that point for now, to be sure. He's a good lad and we've heard he's become fond of drinking since being sacked, so he'll fit right in to the Irish stereotype he will."

I apologise for the terrible attempt at Irish dialect :o

From 'Brain Trees' to 'Maiden's Heads'

Eccentric manager Edward Nelson, who has been out of work since being sacked by Braintree in November, has been appointed the new Maidenhead manager. Maidenhead are struggling near the bottom of the Blue Square South and believe that Nelson is the man to ensure they don't fall into the relegation zone. We spoke to a club spokesperson -

"Well we know that Edward had done well with Braintree in his first two seasons and feel his sacking was a bit premature. We think Nelson can guide us to mid table this season and then push on from there. He was very enthusiastic about joining although we kept having to tell him the club was called Maidenhead, not Maiden's Heads, and that we would not allow him to do any experiments with young ladies brains. But apart from that he seems a decent lad."

Crazy Nash off to an Irish 'Institute'

Former AFC Telford manager Jake Nash has taken control of Northern Irish Premier League outfit Institute. Nash joins them with just one game of the season left with Institute in 11th place out of twelve teams. The points situation means they can't finish bottom and so can't be automatically relegated, but are too far from 10th to avoid the relegation play-off with the second place team in the 1st Division. Can Nash save them from relegation? We spoke to a club spokesperson -

"Nash had an excellent 1st season with Telford and keeping them in the BSP was never going to be easy. We feel he was sacked far to early and he could have turned Telford's season around. However, their loss is our gain, we think Nash is the man to guide us through the relegation play-off and ensure we are in the Premier League next season.

This season, due to the managers now being very spread out and so less head to heads being played, I have decided not to do a head to head table, however, if there is enough demand I will do it anyway.

The Times

1st June 2011

It's that time of year again, the time where we get to see who has trodden the path to victory and who has been cast into the ditch of failure, who has grappled with the best and won and who has been slapped about a bit by some rubbish team like Bognor or Vauxhall.

All three sacked managers now have jobs, Jake Nash is in charge of Institute in the NI Premier League, Charlie Crabs has gone to Crusaders in the NI 1st Division and Edward Nelson is at BSS team Maidenhead.

Let's see how everyone is doing, to the leagues!

Coca Cola League 2

Blue Square Premier

Blue Square North

Blue Square South

Welsh Premier League

Northern Irish Premier League

Northern Irish Division 1

Northampton finished 3rd in League 2, which means that Robert Zhang will be playing League 1 football next year, will this be his big break or will the level be too high, leaving him stuck in the reserves?

In the Blue Square Premier Tom Hamilton's Southport had a solid season, consolidating on last seasons promotion they finished in 15th place. Let's hope they improve on this next season. Unfortunately Cristobal Blanco could not guide Welling too safety and they ended up last by a massive 8 points. Safety was a whole 23 points away! Will Blanco be able to bounce straight back up next season or will he suffer a fate similar to Crabs and Nash?

In the Blue Square North AFC Telford's change of manager worked wonders, with Josy Joseph guiding them from 16th to 7th, only 5 points from the play offs. Surely they will be pushing for promotion next season. Coop Cooper's Workington did the opposite and had a bad run in to the season, dropping from 7th to 10th, not good for a team that should have been pushing for the title. It was another uninspiring season for Ben Cee's Vauxhall who finished 15th.

In the Blue Square South Stew Ferguson had a very good season, guiding Chelmsford to 2nd place (although they were 10 points from the top). This meant they were in the play-offs. They drew AFC Wimbledon, (who were looking to bounce straight back up after the sacking of Crabs), in the semis. They lost the first leg 2-1, but won the return 3-0. They would meet Bath in the final. They had more shots and more of the game but lost 2-1. We blame the keeper. Better luck next year maybe?

Bognor were just like Vauxhall in the BSN, Sam Ralph once again guided them to a safe but boring 14th position. Finally we come to Edward Nelson who took over at Maidenhead when they were just above the relegation zone, they ended up in it and were relegated in 21st place. Oh dear me, will we ever see Nelson again or will he disappear into the lower leagues for ever?

In the Welsh Premier League Charlie Zhang's Welshpool were oh so unlucky as they finished 5th, missing out on Europe by 1 point (2 if you look at the goal difference). Can they build on this and challenge for the title next year?

In the Northern Irish Premier League, as stated Jake Nash's team could only finish 11th, meaning a play-off against Armagh who finished 2nd in the Northern Irish 1st Division. Institute took a slender lead into the second leg after a 2-1 home win, and then secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 away victory. For Nash it was a case of job done. After the match Nash was heard stating that Institutes 'escape' was inspired after the first team had watched re-runs of the A-team on the team bus.

In the Northern Irish 1st Division Charlie Crabs ensured that Crusaders finished in a solid 4th and will be hoping to take them to the Northern Irish Premier League next season. Charlie Crabs did win something this season though, all will be revealed...

Cups -

Welsh Cup

Welshpool were knocked out in the quarter finals after a 2-1 defeat to Newtown.

Northern Irish Cup

Crusaders made it to the Semi Finals after a good 3-0 win over 2nd Division side Killymoon. They met Premier League side Glenavon in the semis and after a 1-1 draw they won on penalties. A final against Premier League side Ballyclare beckoned. A tight game saw Crusaders run out 2-1 winners. A brilliant achievement for the Division 1 side. Charlie Crabs becomes the first 'fan manager to win a cup and as a reward, next season Crusaders will be in Europe!!!

Overview -

The biggest congratulations must go to Charlie Crabs for winning the Northern Irish Cup and so becoming the first manager to qualify for Europe. Charlie Zhang was very unlucky not to join him.

Edward Nelson has had a season to forget, he was sacked by Braintree (who were relegated) and then went to Maidenhead who he managed to relegate. Well done! Cristobal Blanco was also relegated after a terrible season in the BSP, but Jake Nash stopped it being three managers relegated by saving Institute in the relegation play off. Bizarrely, despite it being a bad season for some of our managers, none of them have insecure jobs.

Awards -

It showed that not many managers or players won awards, it wasn't the best season overall for them all.

In the Blue Square Premier Juan Blanco picked up the March Young Player of the Month Award.

In the Blue Square North Josy Joseph was awarded with the February Manager of the Month Award for helping AFC Telford climb the table.

There were a few more awards in the Blue Square South, Jerome Joseph came third in the February Player of the Month followed by Miles Johnson coming third in the March Player of the Month. In the same month, his manager Sam Ralph won the March Manager of the Month.

In the Northern Irish 1st Division Charlie Crab's great start saw him win the March Manager of the Month and come third in the April Manager of the Month Award.

Season Stats -

BSP Player Stats - No mention for our youngsters Juan Blanco and Tom Hamilton Jr.

BSP Team Stats - Southport and Welling weren't good enough to enter the top team stats.

BSP Summary - The only mention goes to Welling whose away game to Histon drew the smallest crowd of the season.

BSN Player Stats - Coop Cooper was joint 8th in the assist table with 10 for Workington.

BSN Team Stats - Josy Joseph's AFC Telford had the best defence in the league and the highest attendances, more goals next season and the BSP awaits. Surprisingly Ben Cee's Vauxhall had the 4th best defence in the league, a quality striker could see them shot up the table next season.

BSN Summary - AFC Telford had a great run in January, they won 6 in a row and kept 4 clean sheets in a row. The most goals in one game came from Liam Ferguson who scored a hatrick in Tamworth's 5-1 win against Cambridge.

BSS Player Stats - As per usual, Miles Johnson features heavily. He was the joint 4th best scorer with 18 goals, had 9 man of the matches and completed 79% of his passes. But for the first time he wasn't the best player in the league, he was only 3rd best with an average rating of 7.21. He will be a massive loss to Bognor next season when he leaves for Scottish team Airdrie. Jerome Joseph also features with 13 assists for Bromley.

BSS Team Stats - Chelmsford scored the most goals in the league and had the best home form in the end of season run in. However they are conceded too many goals which is why they didn't win the league. Bognor's end of season away form was good.

BSS Summary - Only thing of note is how bad Braintree were, Nelson left them in a state!

WPL Team Stats - Welshpool had a very good defence and a few more goals next season may see them challenge at the top. The lack of their name on the good form table shows it was their end of season run in which cost them a European place.

WPL Summary - Not much to note here.

NI 1st Division Team Stats - Charlie Crabs' arrival meant that the Crusaders finished the season strongly, they had the best run in home form and 3rd best overall form. They also scored the most goals in the league. Next season looks promising.

NI 1st Division Summary - Not much to note as the Crusaders stats are from before Crabs joined.

Once again apologies for the delay, I've been a bit busy lately but updates should be more regular once again. I will post the second half of the update probably tomorrow.

Ha ha, brilliant. Edward's favourite band is Iron Maiden coincidentally! Mmmm... young ladies :D

Hopefully Edward can take Maidenhead to better things, and hopefully Lamb will join him.

Edit: bugger, I appear to have got them relegated.

Managers -

Cristobal Blanco

Edward Nelson

Jake Nash

Josy Joseph

Patton Cooper

Sam Ralph

Stew Ferguson

Staff -

Rachel Brown and Jamie Schober both had to settle for mid table in Reserves Group 9. Vauxhall Reserves finished in 9th, two places ahead of AFC Telford Reserves who finished 11th.

Players -

It should be noted that many of our youngsters' contracts expire this summer and so whilst at the moment only Robert Zhang has left his original club, we could see a few moves this summer.

Coop Cooper - A fairly solid season for the 19 year old, he played a lot of games for Workington, but will be hoping to improve on an average of 6.61 and 7 goals if Workington are going to push for promotion next season. The young midfielder is happy with staying put for the moment.

Jerome Joseph - Had a good season for Bromley. Although an average rating of 6.86 and 11 goals weren't enough to see him build on his 2 caps for India. It doesn't look as though he has any intentions of leaving Bromley in the near future.

Juan Blanco - He had another very good season for Welling, scoring 21 goals in 40 games with an average rating of 7.12. His contract expires this summer and although he wants a new contract, if the offer isn't good enough he may be off as he is also considering his options. If he does leave it will be a massive blow to Welling's hopes of bouncing straight back up.

Junior Khanye Jr - He played most in of AFC Wimbledon's games and will be happy with 13 assists. However his manager will not be happy with an average rating of 6.53. He still wants to leave the club and this may explain his poor form.

Liam Ferguson - He's had his first really good season with Tamworth after the first two were a bit disappointing. He has played most of their games and scored 17 goals with an average rating of just under that magic 7. Tamworth will have to improve if they want to keep the promising youngster as he feels the team should be doing better.

Miles Johnson - His last season at Bognor was as good as the others. An average rating of 7.22 and 20 goals is proof that Airdrie's capture of the youngster on a free could turn out to be a real bargain. Miles is looking forward to his move to Scotland

Robert Zhang - His first team and reserve team play has been limited at Northampton. His contract expires during the summer and so it remains to be seen if he will be playing for the same team next season or if he continues his global tour and joins his 4th team in 3 years. He may not want to move as he is currently happy where he is.

Ryan Lamb - Ryan hasn't played too much this season, mainly because of injury. Strangely, despite Braintree being relegated and Nelson being sacked, he has signed a new contract. Finn Harps were interested, but now he has a new contract it doesn't seem likely they will sign him. He obviously enjoys being the captain too much to leave.

Tom Hamilton Jr - He's had a solid season for Southport with an average rating of 6.75, but will be disappointed to have only scored 9 goals. He is another player whose contract is about to expire, it remains to be seen if he will sign a new one. However, Southport will be hoping to keep him as he is enjoying playing for them.

Summer Transfers 2011

Four of our favourite youngsters have made moves this summer, all went for no fee.

One transfer we already knew about was Miles Johnson's move from Bognor Regis to Scottish 1st Division side Airdrie. Miles has comfortably been one of, if not the best player in the Blue Square South for the past three seasons. He'll be looking to enhance his reputation by bagging in goals up in Scotland.

The most surprising transfer of the summer was that of Coop Cooper. His contract with Workington didn't expire until 2012, however, for some reason they released him on a free transfer in June. Just one month later he had moved back to his home country and joined A-League side Central Coast Mariners. How will he fair at the Australian side?

A less surprising transfer was that of Juan Blanco. He never signed a new deal with Welling, but he did stay until after the start of the new season. However after just one game for Welling an offer from League 2 side Bristol Rovers came in and the offer of league football was just too great for Blanco to turn down.

The last transfer we come to is a shock but not unexpected. The Zhang tour of football continues. His contract with Northampton had expired and when League 2 side Bournemouth offered him the chance of first team football, Zhang took it over playing in a higher league. He is no at his 4th club in just over 3 seasons!
