I'm truly not sure. It's proper tight down to 6th.

Any chance you could, from time to time, use a screenshot of the top seven please so that we can see how tight it is? Many thanks.

TRANSFERS IN

We had entries on the first and last day of the season. Markku came in on the first day of the season as we had to move fast to keep him out of the clutches of other clubs and Curtis was brought in as depth in a crazy last day.

viljaja.thumb.png.a809205dff7eb6c1e39eba271e0ef325.png Markku will go out on loan next season as he adjusts to the English game.

jones.thumb.png.bba737af00553a450d81ca61df655be8.pngCurtis is an returning loanee. Not paying any wages for this level of talent? IDEAL!

kelleher.thumb.png.a60ea2114aa55c07154a693e41af0f5c.pngI wasn't looking for a deal for Caoimhin, but to make £1.25m profit on a backup was good business sense.

We then had an explosive dressing room row over giving Stephy Mavididi a new contract. I assured the players that he wasn't getting one yet and four second XI players rebelled over the news. One was sent to the U-18's and the rest were banished to the Reserves and transfer-listed. These actions also required recalling of some youth players out on loan to replace the unruly players. I also had to scramble for a last minute loan as we didn't have a proper calibre AMC to take over from Labyad.

aidoo.thumb.png.cefd0601f7a63291f56e1c164ba62c8e.pngOnce banished, Kasim was offered out and was sold for £7.5m, a loss to what I had been offered, but I will not tolerate dissention.

pilkington.thumb.png.37055801a2d68098018458ca808f8436.png Jeremy was an extremely good prospect, but has been chuntering about a new contract which he had been denied. £12.5m sealed his departure from the club

labayad.thumb.png.543d43331871741333aaf02214b32399.png Zakaria was a good free signing at the beginning of the season, but after his show of unprofessionalism, he was pushed out on loan to France with a buyout clause of £4m.

GAME 31

b2cc478ab807b18804d2b17e8acf9380.png

A lapse in concentration near the end of the first half and BOOM! We struck! We took the lead on 43 minutes when a Curtis Jones cross was headed down by Jacob McAuley, the academy full back making his first start of the season after being recalled from loan. Getting on the end of the knock-down was Callum Webber, who toe-poked a volley into the net. We then doubled our lead in first half added time, when Joel Grant's beautifully weighted chipped through ball allowed Stephy Mavididi to break the offside trap and finish with aplomb.

TRANSFER NEWS

e466d2c9be4eb261879728984607e715.png

This guy is our current #1 transfer target. He'll be an asset if we get to the Prem and will graduate to the first team partnership the season after.

He's not interested at the minute (probably because we're still in the Championship), but I'm convinced he'll come if we get promoted

GAME 32

Fux Ache. We were down three full-backs, due to injury, which led to a debut for academy player Eduardo Sanchez, but we started well and took the lead, just before the 10 minute mark. A throw-in near the right side byline was touched back to Sanchez and the debutant's cross was missed by two defenders who went up for it, but wasn't missed by Joel Grant, who placed his shot in the corner. From there, we were sucker punched twice. The stat below should show how we were...

GAME 33

Can't beat the poor teams, but we've beaten all the teams at the top this season. Our only goal came from substitute Curtis Jones. A long ball from Mavididi found Jones, who avoided one tackle, but found himself on the byline. Undeterred, he dribbled round two defenders and slotted it past the keeper inside the near post.  Worryingly, Isi has collected back-to-back 6.4 ratings..

GAME 35

Dominant, if scrappy win. The winning goal came around the quarter of an hour mark. A cross from the right was headed out to Joel Grant and his vision led him to slip in a rampaging and unmarked Jacob McAuley on the left, who took a touch then fired across the keeper into the far corner. We had a number of minor injuries during the game, which may start to build up now. Let's hope we can escape.

GAME 37

So up & down at the minute. We took the lead five minutes before half time. A Forster-Caskey corner was headed back across goal by Mavididi and there was Ingo van Weert to head home on the doorstep. We traded blows before we pulled away on the 90th minute. Foulds' cross into the box was flicked on by Morgan into the path of Callum Webber who fired across the keeper to seal the deal.

GAME 38

14ed467e99a1f0a2c77e0d77f38fa304.png

For ONCE, we did to another team what is usually done to us. We were outclassed for almost all game. However, a long ball out from defence by sub Joao Victor found his fellow sub Callum Webber on the halfway line. He arrowed towards the goal and, when he was just 6 yards out, he fired a shot that the keeper fumbled back out to him. He then stabbed the rebound against the post, bamboozling the keeper so much that when Webber had a THIRD bite at the cherry, the keeper managed to carry the ball across the goalline for an own goal. Barely two minutes later, another long ball down the channel found Stephy Mavididi, whose run to the edge of the box was shadowed by the defender. Once he reached the edge of the box, he took both the keeper and me by surprise by hitting a snapshot across the keeper and it bounced and bobbled into the net to put us surprisingly into the lead and for good.

You seem to be winning as many as you’re losing at the moment, with hardly any draws. Not ideal at the business end of the season, but at least you’re still top. West Brom (and I guess others) are snapping at your heels.

Is it still the impact of injuries?

Hoping you can string a few consecutive wins together during the final run-in.

Yes and no. Having a few players still chuntering about new contracts so that's affecting morale

2023 YOUTH INTAKE

It's tiiiiiiime for yutes!

d771d2c71055ad98e604b92027b059de.png

933108383_yuteintake.thumb.png.b3b719e400163648219c6f37e1e33b8e.png

1 great, 1 good, 2 decent players, although they're all in either goalkeeper or forward roles. Both of which are positions of strength by now.

GK Michael Maher - He needs muchos work on his pace and mentals, but this could be the goalie of the future.

1340108252_yute1.thumb.png.b5b589ed6ba57e62f85564a84b0807b5.png

AMLC/ST Stephen Coyne - Not entirely unsure that I'll not retrain this guy to a central midfielder, as there is just too much competition in his position

1121280483_yute2.thumb.png.9ddfaa6076aa0f1feca1026f77ca20f1.png

AMC/ST Benjamin Nyarko - Benjamin is certainly more of an AMC than a striker, so he'll be trained there and maybe in the midfield too.

629295794_yute3.thumb.png.c2734e58fdaa3bc25158e4b42c705bc8.png

GK Joshua Dobson - I'm guessing his ceiling will be to be sold on for profit, but I hope he proves me wrong.

567583875_yute4.thumb.png.46775779ac1821016be249ea5f7d2579.png

AMRC/ST Regan Batty - Much like Dobson, this guy looks like he'll be a possible breakthrough candidate, but could also just be a sale

1269024242_yute5.thumb.png.a195f6320c0a963b4f443687690fe17b.png

Again, a decent enough intake. No centre backs though.

That Coyne looks very good. Has the potential to be a very good link up man. Partner him with a natural finisher and I think that'd be a winning recipe. He could be the Beardsley to a Lineker.

I do like Dobson too.

Coyne isn't terrible, but I have talents in his positions. I need him shifted to where I'm weak.

Dobson could be a good backup, but he needs games.

GAME 40

94d6aad97e005902a1b8816178015d80.png

A thumping good win against a relegatioin-haunted team! We went down early, but equalised on 20 minutes, a speculative 30 yard blocked shot by Morgan fell to the feet of Harvey Elliott who burst through and rolled the ball wide of the keeper from close range. This stalemate continued until the 62nd minute, when we went absolutely crazy and score 4 goals in five minutes!!! We started the riot with Elliott's jinking run and pass seeing Mavididi free. His shot was parried into the path of substitute Joel Grant who slotted home. Three minutes later, it was a two goal advantage, Harvey Elliott curling a 20 yard strike into the top corner after Morgan had intercepted a wayward clearance. Wigan kicked off and attacked. It broke down quickly and substitute Adam Baxter hit a long counter-attacking through ball into the path of Stephy Mavididi, who beat the offside trap, drew out the keeper and knocked the ball wide of him to make it 4-1. A minute later, we had our fifth. Papagiannapoulos knocked a ball into the right hand channel for Harvey Elliott, who outpaced the defender and curled it wide into the far corner for his hat-trick.

GAME 41

It's getting tight and nervy now. Despite Crewe Alexandra being already relegated in last place, we struggled to put the ball in the net. Our lone goal came in the 26th minute when a Matty Foulds cross was headed out by a defender only to come to Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu who side-foot volleyed home to settle the match.

So, so poor in this one against a side battling relegation. We took the lead on with five minutes to go to half-time when a free-kick on the right hand side of the box was headed home at the back post by Adam Baxter. Sadly we couldn't follow it up and lost to two sucker punches.

As ever, we've scoured the released youth lists and picked up two bargains that will either prove useful, or make a profit after being sold on.

GAME 43

4f7017c1d45d19b462a62566981df929.png

Exactly the kind of result we needed at this stage! We took the lead on 8 minutes after a great driving run and through ball by Kieran Dowell found Stephy Mavididi. He then shaped to shoot, but deceived the entire Derby defence by squaring it for the on-rushing and unmarked Harvey Elliott to pass into an empty net. Dowell again kickstarted the move for the second goal on 30 minutes. His run down the right side and deep cross was picked up by Isi who played the ball back into the middle for Stephy Mavididi to finish well past the keeper. We conceded early on in the second half, but barely a few minutes later, Harvey Elliott went on one of his great runs before providing a laser-guided through ball to Isi to finish across the keeper to restore our two goal advantage. Finally, on 68 minutes, a wonderfully whipped ball in from the left from Jake McAuley found Harvey Elliott open to head the ball home to seal the game.

GAME 44

We've discovered our shooting boots. We'll need them. We opened the scoring just past the 20 minute mark when a Jake Forster-Caskey free-kick was headed onto the bar by Kieran Dowell, only for Isi to fire in the rebound. We then sealed the game with three goals in 10 second half minutes. First, Harvey Elliott's crossfield ball found Kieran Dowell, whose fierce angled shot from just inside the box squirmed through the keeper's grasp and into the net. A few moments later, panic from an Elliott corner found Albie Morgan who powered in a half volley to put us 3-0 up. Albie Morgan would double his tally just a few minutes later, slotting home from a chipped Thierry Ambrose pass.

SO. CLOSE. NOW. We exploded out of the gates as a whipped in corner from right was met by a flick header from Isi of all people. It looped over the top of the keeper and into the far corner of the net. We lost the lead early on in the second half, but just two minutes later, a driving run from Harvey Elliott saw him trade a 1-2 with Saprong-Wiredu which left him free to fire in a shot, which squirmed under the keeper and into the net. On 63 minutes, a push in the area had the referee whistling. Thierry Ambrose stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way!

PRE-SEASON 2023/24

a7d36afe5191246edf67b865231121c5.png

Is looking like the team for our first season back in the Premier League since 2006/07.

We're solid, but we had a few burning questions...

1. Can we get Harvey Elliott back on loan? Harvey scored and assisted into double figures for both this season, so it's well worth us trying to get him back

2. Do we permanently sign Joao Victor? victor.thumb.png.e636fe863239f89d0cb5eb6eb0c2e933.png?? He had a good season on loan to us and his MRC is £7.75m... But I am overstocked with MC's right now...

GAME 1

df6f00cf0f76af59352ad07667392ecd.png

Our first game back in the Premier League for 15 years... wasn't fun. We were already 0-4 down on 66 minutes when we scored our first goal of the campaign. A cross from the left was weakly headed out by the Man Utd defence and there was Joao Victor on the spot to hook a volley past the keeper.  We battled pretty ineffectively for the rest of the game, but threw caution to the wind when a Man Utd player saw their second yellow become a red. Minutes before the end, a corner was cleared out to Callum Webber, just before the halfway line. He picked the ball up, put on the afterburners and blew past two defenders into the box, where he steadied himself and rolled the ball past the keeper into the far corner.
