TRANSFER NEWS

End of a fraught window for the club.

We had three players come into the club during the window:

Vicente Blanco was signed for £300k from Elche C.F as a good prospect to balance our our 30+ aged centre backs. Give him a season at U-18's level and we can then loan him out. We also had a real issue with our goalkeepers, with Ben Amos making too many mistakes and Dillon Phillips wanting to be paid above his station. So we loaned in Jordan Archer from Fulham to provide cover for the rest of the season, as I was looking to sign some free agent goalkeepers in the close season. We also had a scout in Denmark and he recommended a young goalie from Hvidovre IF, Filip Djuric for £15k. He's raw, but has plenty of time to develop and could, conceivably make the first team spot his own in a few years

We also had our near misses

Both would have been vital cogs in our squad. Andrija Balic agreed a deal with us, but took more money to stay at Udinese. Thierry Ambrose was on loan at a French club with a view to buy, but due to English contract rules, we were powerless to offer him a contract when Valenciennes FC came in.

In terms of players leaving, Ben Amos signed a pre-contract with Nashville SC and would be our backup for the rest of the season. Also leaving was goalkeeper Dillon Phillips who moved to Derby County for £750k. Going out on loan to Millwall was defender Deji Oshilaja

GAME 30

A goal within the first minute settled this. As has been so often this season, Forster-Caskey out to Page, who's cross was stooped and headed in by Troy Parrott. After the Barnsley red, we should have sealed the deal, but our finishing was wayward.

GAME 31

ceffe686c9e5a62c3ba58998ecc221fc.png

On a snowy day in the Potteries, we took the lead early on against Stoke with Troy Parrott's turn and shot. But we gave up two headers from set pieces and never looked at the races in general. Poor.

GAME 33

A great game as we rained fire on Blackburn from above. All three goals were headers from set pieces. Lyle Taylor scored from a corner to open the scoring, then headed home a free-kick to double the lead. Finally, Romain Genevois headed home from another corner to give us an easy win.

GAME 34

In what is fast proving to be the main combination for goals, early on in the second half, a Lewis Page cross was turned in by Lyle Taylor. This win thrust us into the playoff race

GAME 35

Another frustrating result. We opened the scoring, thanks to Macaulay Bonne's driving run and perfectly weighted pass into the path of Fola Balogun who placed his shot wide of the keeper and into the net! Barely two minutes later, a cross from the right was headed down by Andre Green and Fola Balogun reacted quickest to slam the ball into the roof of the net. Sadly, Andre Green's straight red for a bad tackle put us under pressure and we conceded the equaliser at the death to stiffle our momentum.

*bangs head repeatedly against brick wall* We never f**king learn :mad:Josh Cullen put us in the lead just after half time, burying the ball after chaos ensued in the Boro defence. Sadly we were undone by a trick play and a 25 yard strike from a free-kick deep into stoppage time

WOW! We pulled it out! A VITAL win over the team in possession of the last playoff spot! Lyle Taylor's 50 yard run and shot just inside the near post settled this one early. We're back!

GAME 40

Amazing. We were dead and buried in the first half, Cardiff were tearing us apart. A triple sub and formation change early in the second half turned it around and a burst forward from Lyle Taylor saw him play in Fola Balogun and he made no mistake up close, rolling the ball between the keeper's legs to cap a great turnaround and put us back (temporarily) into a playoff spot!

2020 Youth Intake

Well, it's that time again as we look to see who is coming into our youth academy.

As you can see, we only have the one standout of this intake, a speedy winger which could indeed help as as soon as next season! He'll become a good option on the right and hopefully won't leave any time soon!! The other candiates are pretty garbage and we'll need to get some money together to improve our facilities

GAME 41

7d419cff7b8303b5fd727abe52f3b16a.png

A very satisfying win. The South London Derby was a thumping for our opponents. We rocketed out of the gates when Lewis Page's clipped cross found Fola Balogun at the far post and with who's shot, the Millwall keeper should have done better. Balogun turned provider with 20 minutes to go in the game, nodding down a throw-in for Albie Morgan to put his foot through the ball and smash it low into the net. Dithering in the Millwall defence meant that Troy Parrott was able to nip in, dispossess the centre back and run through free to slot home into the far corner. In the dying moments, Parrott turned provider, heading down a JFC corner for Albie Morgan to absolutely roof it from 3 yards away.

GAME 43

6007418d1960706fcd397edb14ea0acd.png

A great win getting to the business end of the season. It took until the second half, but on 58 minutes, Troy Parrott escaped down the right hand flank and crossed the ball to Macaulay Bonne who sidefooted home to open the scoring. Ten minutes later, a badly-cleared corner was sent back into the box by Van Weert. The ball in found Albie Morgan who finished well to double the lead. We wrapped it up just five minutes later, Macaulay Bonne finishing into an empty net after the Reading keeper parried Morgan's shot.

GAME 45

A first senior hat-trick for midfielder George Lapslie gave us the win here. His opener was a shot hooked into the net after a rebounded shot came to him, off-balance. His second, however, was a thing of beauty, a full-on thunderous strike that fairly ripped into the net past the keeper. He collected his hat-trick in scrappy fashion as his goalbound header was blocked, but he was alert enough force home the rebound.

GAME 46

WOWOWOWOWOW!! Talk about a smash and grab!! Leeds dominated us all game, but a wild clearance from the Leeds right back was headed into the path of Troy Parrott who made no mistake, sending the ball wide of the keeper to give us a shock lead. Albie Morgan's sending off for a second yellow worried me and we battened down the hatches and (luckily at times) tried to fend off Leeds. Getting closer to the end of the match, Leeds were getting increasingly desperate. One such symptom was overloading at corners and when one was cleared in the 81st minute, Troy Parrott picked it up and made a 75 yard run, brushing past the challenge of the last man and then beating the on-rushing keeper to double our lead!! Wonderland!! We conceded very late on from a corner, but you couldn't deny us a famous win!! Playoffs!!!

SkyBet Championship Playoff Semi Final - Leg 1

8cea95eab7ab5c4fee6e71b59fdac306.png

The score does not do justice to the game. We absolutely battered Leeds, the entire game. Lyle Taylor dispossessed their fullback just over the halfway line and went straight for goal, firing home across the keeper into the net. We hit the woodwork three times, had an Andre Green goal disallowed for offside.. Honestly, we should have been 4-5 goals to the good. Is it enough for Yorkshire? We'll find out.

I am utterly raging. Completely and utterly. We were robbed in this game. Utterly robbed.

This was their second goal. Clearly offiside and nothing done. Of course, that meant I had to go attacking and give up the third. But it's shocking that we could be put out of the playoffs by such a poor decision.

So, I was willing to play the one season with Charlton. Just to see where I could take them, but now I'm angry. I need justice for this season. So we'll go again.

2020/21 Pre-Season

a398438744d425bbd18f44dc527ef530.png

This is the first team picture going into the next season. We have no first team keeper, so that is a priority. We also don't have a first-team Mezzala, although we have a number of players that could step up during the pre-season friendlies. We're running very light up front with no cover at AML or ST. Cover is a major issue coming into this season as we don't have cover at RB or DM either. It's going to have to be second priority behind a first team goalie.

Pre-Season Targets

  • Get a first team keeper
  • Get cover at RB, DM, AML, ST
  • Sell any fat in the system. Realistically, it's two MC's

ARRGGGHH!! Crash dump has taken me back to before the Leeds game to end the season. I simmed that and we missed out on the playoffs, but considering we lost the first time, I'm not bothered.

Just have to re-do everything FFS!

a080d72f2ca43189f5fd204371e5c8fe.pngTHE SQUAD: AUG 2020 TRANSFER WINDOW

558a2916a88777380a4fc506db5ee111.png

Well, we had a productive transfer window. Signing a feeder club contract with Liverpool meant that we could raid their youth team for some gems for no cost at all!

We signed Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones and Ki-Jana Hoever from parent club Liverpool for no wage contributions.

Coming into the youth team for development was DC Adam Baxter (Colwyn Bay, £37k), DR Casey Willis (Leeds United, £600k), MRL/AML Lucas Orneborg (FC Kobenhaven, Free) and DRLC Dafydd Roberts (Barry Town, £44.5k)

So in real terms, we only had four players actually coming into the first team squad; A desperately needed GK, Kieran O'Hara signed on a free from Manchester United, two challengers for the left wing spot in Spanish winger Isi who came in on a free from Rayo Vallencano and young Danish prospect Mohamed Daramypicked out by our Denmark scout. Finally, we bolstered our defensive corps with the signing of centerback Matty Foulds on a free from Everton.Le

Leaving the club, we had centreback Tom Lockyer signed by MIddlesbrough for £2m, midfielder Johnny Williams went to the USA and Nashville FC for £6.25m and finally DC Jason Pearce was sold to Portsmouth for £250k.

GAME 1

92b6dfcf1e6e24e35eba3af905410218.png

A frustrating, yet decent point against the recently-relegated side. We were under the cosh early, only to be brought back into it with an out-of-this-world 30 yard volley from Ben Purrington. Just seven minutes later, a burst into the area by Ki-Jana Hoever saw him pull it back to Curtis Jones whose off-balance strike nestled in the far corner. Sadly, we couldn't keep up our level of play and ended up being beaten.

GAME 3

66519272d1fb48b520caeba7e4a4bcfc.png

A good result on paper, but it should have been better. Our goal was a thing of beauty. Played out of defence to Curtis Jones on the wing, he knocked the ball forward a few steps and played it forward to Rhian Brewster. He then laid it back off to Jones, who broke into the left hand channel. He then cut it back for Jake Forster-Caskey to fire home from the edge of the box. An brilliant counter attack. We conceded from a free-kick and once they had a player sent off, it was all us but we just couldn't break through.

GAME 5

A relief as we put our first three points up on the board. We took the lead just before half time as Chuks Aneke headed home from a deep free-kick. Chuks Aneke then doubled his tally and the lead as he tapped home at the far post from a Hoever free-kick midway through the second half. It would take until added on time at the end of the second half, but when Chuks Aneke was sent tumbling in the area, he stepped up, dusted himself off and then fired home the resulting penalty to complete his hat-trick

CARABAO CUP SECOND ROUND

6852e682114c5775150c5f9fe1c204a6.png

A routine win for us. We opened the scoring on 24 minutes as a great ball in from the left by Alfie Doughty found Macaulay Bonne who headed over the keeper. Despite being pegged back, we took the lead with about 15 minutes left as Macaulay Bonne found Erhun Oztumer around 25 yards out and with one touch, he thundered a shot past the Portsmouth keeper. A fabulous goal.

GAME 6

f83540e51ea197f3e0810b3782d44778.png

We've got to be more convincing in these games. We went down to a header from a corner, only to equalise when a swirling free-kick decieved the Wycombe keeper and left Lyle Taylor with a tap-in.  We turned it around less than ten minutes later as Chus Aneke was tripped in the area. He stepped up and fired the resulting penalty into the corner to put us into the lead. Erhun Oztumer extended the lead on 66 minutes, curling the ball past the keeper from 20 yards after good work by Jones on the right. We were sucker-punched late on to concede, but held on.

GAME 7

Both sides of half-time were the exciting parts in this game. Late on in the first half, 16 year old Connor McCarthy burst down the right and rolled the ball across the box. Meeting it, an instant before the defender, was Rhian Brewster to score his first goal for the club. Sadly, we lost the advantage after half-time and rode out the game.

GAME 8

Another poor result. We're just not being able to get good results at the minute. Hopefully, it's because of all the injuries we're suffering. Halfway through the first half, we took the lead as Isi's chipped cross was met by a Macaulay Bonne side-foot volley. Sadly, five minutes later, Eddi Gomes was dispossessed on the touchline and the Cardiff player raced away to score. We attacked, but to no avail. We even hit the post from 20 yards and had the ball roll agonsiningly across the line. Sadly we couldn't finish it off.

GAME 11

b392e5d22360bea794a3bcc053ebb94d.png

A topsy-turvey game in which, on balance, we were lucky to escape with a point, but we had chances. Ingo van Weert was at fault for the opener and ended up being subbed for poor performance. West Brom also had the ball in the net in the second half, but was ruled out dubiously. As the game was nearing the end, a break down the right by Bonne saw his cross blocked and rebound to Curtis Jones, recently returned from injury. He took two steps and fired a low shot from 20 yards that whipped into the bottom corner of the net to equalise! There was still time for George Lapslie to put the ball in the net from a free-kick, however unlike the WBA disallowed goal, this was clearly offside.

Another game, another lead thrown away. We look the lead early on as Isi finished a good move with a curling shot into the top corner. And we doubled our lead as a mistake by the Ipswich centre-back allowed a through ball to Rhian Brewster who made no mistake after breaking the offside trap. But, we gave away two goals to toss away yet another lead...
