Earnie is God!
Investment in youth is beginning to pay off And it's almost that time again, when the scouts go out to find the best of the soon-to-be released kids Our own youth intake was late this year, had to wait until the middle of April for some reason when it's always been in March before. Still, there's one or two youthies there who look decent. This guy's the pick of the bunch... We've also agreed a deal for this excellent looking CB for next season Although why my scouts think we could possibly afford to pay this guy £150,000+ in wages a week is beyond me as that's over 50% more than our entire playing squad earn! Stupid game On the pitch, the season is ending well for us For the first time this season we were made clear favourites for a match A nice little landmark for me Unbeaten in seven So with just two games to go, we are guaranteed at least 13th. I'd like to finish in the top half though and we'll see if we can do that tomorrow.
Earnie is God!
Final two games of the season An excellent 5-1 win at Boro [we beat them 5-1 at home too ] and a 2-1 home win over Barnsley where I gave some of the kids a run out as well as a few players who may not be here after the summer. This gave us an unbeaten run at the end of the campaign of nine games, by far our longest streak of the season. Within that: W7 D2 L0 F19 A5, quite unbelievable when you consider how much we've struggled this year. It makes me wonder how well we could have done if we'd got our act together even a month beforehand, perhaps the playoffs weren't out of reach. But to finish 10th is very satisfying and I want the playoffs at least next term. Some close title races there! Edited May 31, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
Season 2027/28 Review Marsh gets more than half the votes for Fans' PoTY but doesn't even make the starting XI for ToTS 🤔 Top scorer for us though with 14 goals, he's still doing the business. Danny Jones had a decent season and some may be surprised to see our GK Will Mannion in 3rd place but he had some cracking games and saved at least 2 or 3 penalties late in the season. Overall Best XI is really taking shape now and I'm sure that, as we establish ourselves in the higher divisions, it will have more meaning going forward. Dixon-Bonner, who has been with us for six seasons now, is our new record holder for appearances He's really not great but still puts in decent performances when called upon so I've extended his contract until 2030 I just didn't want to let him go and, while he can still do a job from time to time, there's no reason to. Earnie is God!
End of season seems to have screwed up somewhere along the line with expectations. Earnie is God!
Big spending Bournemouth missed out in the playoffs so we'll have to play them again next season I'm going to try and give it a go without bringing in any loans if possible, it stunts the growth of some of our youngsters who are almost good enough for the first team now. I did try and sign three of the players we had on loan this season but their clubs told me where to go This popped up But I played it down and the board loved me for it Will have to try and keep hold of our best players but it won't be easy In the meantime, I'm always on the lookout for fresh talent. Here's the first of them Scouts say he has great promise and we do have another 2-3 we are bringing in already, with more to come. Edited June 1, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
Thanks. I think it might be a bit tougher next season as we have lost a few key players unfortunately. Earnie is God!
Negotiated for £10m though, can't complain at that. However, a few days later... Silly boy, that £10m would have been lovely Villa came in for him shortly after and I knew £10m was the price so went for that and they agreed and Fulham too He chooses Villa and now I have some more money to spend He's not the only one to leave, a young winger who has only just broken into the first team also left and for a potential £7.5m too
Earnie is God!
I was quick to pounce on Munroe after Wolves released him for whatever reason. Probably the best striker at the club now Speaking of released players, it was time to try and entice some quality, if a little past it, players. Sadly, none of them wanted to join, and it wasn't just them. We were knocked back more times in the space of two months than I have been by women in my entire life, and that's a heck of a lot 😏😢 Here is just a smattering of examples of them refusing to play with me, and not a Kerry, Enrica or Sally in sight 😁 It wasn't all doom and gloom though. Aside from my shiny new striker, these two very fine players will be donning the Dronfield kit next season As well as some promising youngsters on the cheap I seem to have deleted Jones' profile pic and I've closed the game now so will have to wait til tomorrow, if I bother at all. Don't tell him I said this but he's nothing special, just a punt on a kid who may or may not make it 🤨 These two as well, and yet again I don't have both profile pics. I think I need my bed! Earnie is God!
It's no real surprise players are reluctant to join us I suppose. We are still very much a nothing club who have come out of nowhere. It'll take a good few seasons in the top two divisions to improve enough to bring in anyone of real note. As you can see from the sponsorship info and club stature below Some tough fixtures to start the season with, really could do with a quick start if we are going to make the playoffs. Not too bothered about the EFL Cup as we are never likely to win it. That's a tricky 1st round tie anyway but I'll still try and win the game. Earnie is God!
As usual, a frantic transfer window. We lost more players than I'd have liked but we did make a load of money on the sales and that's kept the board happy. It wasn't just big sales that went through, we also sold a few fringe players and youngsters and made a bit of money there too. In total, though, we brought around £25m into the club which will sustain us for quite a while. The board were understandably delighted with that, although they only gave me a fraction of that amount to spend in the market. Still, I think I've put it to good use. Unfortunately, most of the players I went after didn't want to join but I've got used to that now. No harm in trying though, right? Spent only around £3m in total, net profit over £20m, but that's still seen us predicted to finish mid-table. Bournemouth favourites just ahead of the 3 relegated clubs Maj was the only other player of note to leave us. I had high hopes for him, and we'd had him here on trial for a few years before he finally signed aged 18 last season. But barely before he'd kicked a ball for us, clubs swooped in and he was away After losing our 5 loanees last season, we still needed 3 or 4 first team players but nobody of good enough quality wanted to join. Then my DoF mad a loan bid for a CB who looks great and I decided to succumb and go down the loan route for a few players again. It was either that or have a crappy season with players not good enough. So in came these three and they look great. Heffernan will be fab at CB and we needed one, Gotfred will probably mainly play LM and, with Marjanovic moving to Naarwich, Simmonds will take his place at AM. Other players who joined, with an eye more to the future... And then two that I'm really excited about. First, this kid looks really good. It's not often you find a 16yo with fantastic teamwork and, according to my scouts, great consistency, commitment and, rather strangely, honesty. Looking forward to see how he develops. And then this 17yo has insane attributes and will be joining in January Fair play to my scouts for this one! 17 players joined in total 😲 Most of the freebies, loans or cheap punts. Wage spend for the season has more than doubled, from £94k a week to £200k but still one of the lowest spenders. Edited June 2, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
Pre-season went well and I was looking forward to the challenge of the new campaign. We had a dodgy start, scraping a 2-1 win at home to Blackbum with latish goals after going 1-0 behind. After that, we lost 1-0 at relegated Newcastle but no disgrace there. Then things turned in our favour, just a little I'm not going to get ahead of myself here, it's still very early days and anything can happen, but it's been such a great start to the season for us and I just hope it continues. Earnie is God!
We started to concede a few goals after our great start but we were still scraping draws or narrow victories and remained in the top 4 throughout. But I could just tell that a defeat was around the corner and so it proved when we went down 1-0 at home to struggling 'Boro. We did, however, bounce back in our next game. We were 4th and travelled to Burnley in 2nd. It was a tough game but we managed to come away with a hard fought 2-1 win that saw us move back up into 2nd behind runaway leaders 'Muff We've also had 3 League Cup games, all away from home at Wednesday, Forest and 'Muff and won them all I've signed a new contract and the board have yet again invested in our facilities; they might even be decent one day

Earnie is God!
The Defenestration Project Defenestration - the action of throwing someone out of a window. I absolutely love this word and discovered it a couple of Christmases ago when playing one of those silly Xmas word games that we all love and hate. It was actually the last Christmas I spent with my dad before he passed away but it's not a sad memory at all as we were all a little perplexed by this word we had never encountered before. I don't think I'll ever forget it nor my dad's laugh when the definition was read out. But anyway, young RB Sjors van der Heijden has been defenestrated this January and has moved to Brentford. He's a decent kid with some potential but he's had his injury issues which has hampered his progress. When Brentford came in for him, offering just under £1m, I didn't see it as a bad move to see how far we could push them. I asked for a potential £6.5m as my opening negotiation but that's where it ended as they then locked in a £2.2m offer, with another £2.2m if he impresses. And tbh I was quite happy with that and so he was on his way. This does mean I need a new RB of some description, especially seeing as Jake Griffin, in his 7th season with us, has never really impressed me. Four new players have joined us, all from agreed deals before now and they arrived on Jan 1st. Firstly we have Coulibaly who I mentioned a few posts up and looks really good Heister is currently a RB but he lacks a lot of things I like to have in a WB role such as pace and work rate, and he can't cross either. I'm going to train him to be a CB which he can do partially already. Joining him is fellow CB Gilmour They both need more heading and speed, amongst other things, but they are only 18 so have plenty of time to develop. Even though I hadn't planned on selling van der Heijden, as it happens I also brought in a promising RB in Keani Ercoli (who?). Ah yes, that very common Canadian name Keani Ercoli 🤷🏻♂️ I hadn't really thought about throwing him in at any point of the season but, as a 22yo, he really needs games asap if he is going to reach his potential so if I don't manage to buy a 'real' RB he'll get his fair share of minutes. Earnie is God!
Hmm, he's not yet as good as the Dutchy we just sold so I'd better look harder for a 1st choice RB This guy might be the answer... We could try and sign him on a Bosman but I really could do with someone now. They only want £1.2m but we are going to have to compete with all the other clubs who want him on a free at the end of the season. I'm not hopeful. Edited June 7, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
@WillHoward42many thanks. I was reading back through it yesterday, it's been a hell of a ride so far but it's not over yet. We need to make it to the 'promised land' of the EPL and then stay there and try and make it into Europe. It's a big ask but if we can have a season or two in the top flight, the money we'd generate would be huge and then anything can happen!

But I held strong and refused to sell. We did lose a few players though, with this guy returning to Portugal the day before deadline day. Earnie is God!
We didn't just sell players this January though, we also added three players to the squad in the final week And possibly the GK we've been looking for He's been playing in the Welsh leagues and I think his lowly reputation is the reason why the fans/board don't rate him and also why he only signed as an Emergency Backup but he's got the right attributes to become pretty good. My coaches seem to think there's improvement left in him and he's going to be my 1st choice GK for the remainder of the season so I'll be able to see how he does. Burnley spending the big bucks to try and get back in the EPL and that's got me worried as they are in 3rd place, breathing down our necks. No surprise then to see them and 'Muff spending the most on wages. But at least we aren't bottom of the list any more Edited June 12, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
We found form and managed to keep our place in the top two Although a home defeat to Derby knocked us back a bit and we were now 11pts off the top with Burnley just 1pt behind. But then 'Muff started to falter and when we played them a few games later, we were the team in form. If we could win this one we might even be in with a chance of the title! The game was very tight, and we had to survive with 10 men for 15+ minutes at the end, but we sneaked home 1-0 to close the gap to 4pts with 8 games to go Edited June 12, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
Great to see the kids doing so well too But alongside our injuries we were also suffering suspensions. We are a dirty bunch 😇 Still, this was inevitable For the first time in this save, we can actually defend. Part of the reason for that has been the necessity of changing formation due to the injuries we suffered but it's turned out to be the best thing I could have done With 5 games to go, and just 7 matches since we were 11pts behind Bournemouth, we went top of the table for the first time 😎 Seven successive clean sheets followed by another in a 2-0 win over Luton left us with this Just a win away from promotion and Millwall were in town to try and spoil our party. My AssMan was getting a little carried away though. Millwall did end our run of clean sheets, thanks to a dodgy penalty, but we were 2-0 up by then and held on for the win 😁
Earnie is God! I suspect a few players will leave in the summer to bring in some money and I'll be looking at a quality winger or two and an AM I think. Looking at our transfers this season, I see the fans and board now think that Rhys Jones, the GK I signed in January was a stroke of genius, instead of being disappointed with his arrival. Earnie is God!
Final game of the season then and both ourselves and 'Muff were playign away from home. We were off to Hull who, after winning last time out, moved up from 21st position to 19th thus securing their place in the Championship for next season. Meanwhile, 'Muff had a tricky trip to the Tricky Trees of Nottingham Forest who needed a win themselves to try and get into the playoffs. A draw might have been enough for us but none of that, we had to go for the win and hope that Forest could do us a favour. Both matches were level at HT; 0-0 in ours and 1-1 in Nottingham. Not long into the 2nd half though and we went ahead. I had such high hopes for Munro this season; on paper at least he's by far our best striker but he's just not done the business. This was only his 10th of the season but I'll forgive him as it was such an important one. 10min later and I thought we had doubled our lead but the linesman's flag put paid to that. With 5min to go, we were on the break and now Forest had gone 2-1 up! 'Muff needed to score twice to deny us the title and time was running out. I switched to a defensive 4-1-4-1 for the final minutes, with an eye on the latest scores. Last chance for Hull but Jonesy was there to snuff it out The final whistle went and we had done it! Annoyingly, no comment available to congratulate the players on lifting the trophy though But that wasn't going to dampen our spirits Edited June 12, 2020 by Earnie is God! Earnie is God!
I'm been thinking a lot about how we are going to approach the season. The board expect us to fight bravely against relegation so at least there's no real pressure there. In my end of season meeting with the lads, I tried to be a bit more positive and told them we could avoid the drop with a few additions to the squad. Almost to a man, they reacted negatively, telling me I expected too much 🙄 My only real response available was to tell them to do their best and not worry where we finished and they all loved that. It's going to be a long hard season. But anyway, formation-wise, the 4-4-1-1 worked very well defensively this season. At times, though, we struggled to score so I've added in a 4-4-2 and a 4-2-3-1. We do have a few very good strikers and Marsh will have just about recovered from his broken leg which saw him miss most of last season. So I may start with the 4-4-2 and see how we do. Earnie is God!
It'll be interesting to see how much these shoot up next season. Meanwhile, it seems some of the big clubs are now interested in my services. I'm not interested though
Earnie is God!
That of course went down well with the board Meanwhile, my scouts have been out and about. Disappointed with aspects of these three potentials though McKenzie would have been great but Rangers won't sell and the wages he'd be after are ridiculous. Christian has a few minor issues but it's the lack of any real improvement predicted that concerns me the most. I was hopeful about Law but the warnings about his inconsistency, injury proneness and dirty play just means he's too much of a gamble I think. The one I had highest hopes for was this young fullback. He's got some great attributes and I really put a lot of importance in players who are brave, naturally fit and have the ability to make the right decisions. On the face of it, he doesn't have any weaknesses but my scouts tell me he's a little inconsistent and, even though he's just 19, they don't think he'll improve much more. Bugger I still might take the gamble on him though as he won't cost much and can always be a squad player if nothing more. Edited June 13, 2020 by Earnie is God!
Nice and it'll be smashed this season I think we've been a bit fortunate with our opening fixtures, could have been much more difficult that's for sure Managed to tie up two of our best players to new, longer deals. They might be quite costly by our standards but they don't begin until the end of this season and I have no intention of relegating (no pressure!) The game seems to be a little confused though, accepting and, at the same time, considering offers from my U18 side (presumably because my HoYD bid for him) when it's just the one offer. Just another bug I guess but harmless enough if he ends up signing for us Edited June 14, 2020 by Earnie is God!
Earnie is God!
Not many transfers so far this summer, neither in nor out Struggling to get that marquee signing that won't cost us a bomb. A lot of high profile free agents available but they either refused to even talk to us wanted way too much in wages... Or were too far past their sell by date they just weren't bringing in, like paying Robertson £17.75k a week here A few superstars on the transfer list, including England all-time record goalscorer Harry Kane He's old but could still do a great job for us. However, he's not interested either My scouts have found a few players so far though and we are checking them out further before finalising our decision. Money is tight so the right player is also going to have to be a bit of a bargain although I'd be willing to blow the whole kitty on one superstar tbh. Wait, what was that, Mr Chairman? No, of course I wan't serious 🤨 Yes, Mr Chairman, I know. Must...resist...😒 Edited June 14, 2020 by Earnie is God!
Earnie is God!
Pre-season meeting and I have just these two choices We are good enough to avoid relegation or we are going to go down fighting I told them we are good enough to not go down but they ALL reacted badly so I had to backtrack. We'll see who was right come the end of the season
Earnie is God!
Plenty of new contracts signed for a plethora of players already here and ones we want to hold onto. Probably the kid I want to keep here more than any other... He's going to get plenty of opportunities to impress this season. Scouting hasn't quite gone to plan, almost every farker wants a King's ransom to join us I get that the majority are free agents and so will command more in wages but we just can't afford it. The two who are available at knockdown transfer prices want between double and five times what they are currently on to come to Sheffield. Fortunately, we do find two others but they are going to be future prospects. Still, better than nothing. That was until we offered £2.5m for Mas and his club wanted £3.9m and locked in a 40% sell-on fee. They can go and take a running jump. That just leaves Sacchi who is a long way from the first team but has a lot of promise We did manage one other signing £30k a week is quite a bit but he was a free agent and he's got resell potential there if things don't work out. One loan in... I was after him last season but Chelsea didn't want to sell and he went on loan to Cardiff. With him, we now have four very good options for CB. Hello, TV money 11,000 season tickets would be great
