PaulHartman71
It took a penalty shoot-out, but Man United beat Galastaray to prevent them picking up just their 2nd European crown. A good run from the Turkish side though, who knocked out favorites Celtic on their way to the final.
PaulHartman71
Champions League Hall of Fame Man United join Atletico Madrid as joint for second most successful sides ever, both now just 6 off Real Madrid's record. England are 3 off Spain now.
PaulHartman71
RB Salzburg make it 4 in a row in Austria. A big win for Lviv, who become the first team other than Shakhtar to retain the title for 50 years. Dynamo Kyiv finish 3rd and are back in Europe after only getting promoted back into the division this season. A huge win for Rijeka in Croatia, as they break Zagreb's 10 year reign of terror to win their first ever league title, a crazy feat, since they have finished as runners-up on 39 occasions before finally winning the big one now. PaulHartman71
So it turns out, our success, was also a success for Balzers, who qualified for the Europa League having been runners-up in the Cup final. They lost 6-2 in the first qualifying round to Suduva of Lithuania, but what an experience for them. They must've managed to bank around £400-500K from it as well, so thta could really help them moving forward in the proper lower non leagues of Swiss football.
PaulHartman71
After we had a man sent off it was always going to be a struggle to get anything from our game with Paraguay, but a decent performance all things considered.
PaulHartman71
A very quiet summer window, despite qualifying for the CL we didn't really have a lot of money after agreeing new contracts for our better players, so we took just two players in, both as rotation players coming in after being released from other sides. We also sold Jean-Pierre Cavalier who was a good player, but given we got him for nothing a £12-15M profit when I had Damien Schurte coming through the ranks it was an easy decision to make. Killian Froger also left to Toulouse for £7.25M and Sven-John wanted first-team football, so he left for Sassuolo. Fabry has spent the vast majority of his career at Basel, but he was discarded this summer and for nothing he seemed a good pick-up. Sahin is a similar story, except he was released by Xamax. They often seem to let promising young talent go, so I'm interested to see what we can do with him.
PaulHartman71
We didn't have the Europa League qualifying rounds this summer, but we did have the European Super Cup with Man United. Man United were far too strong for us though and comfortably won 3-0. Our first ever Champions League group stage looks a tough one, with Wolfsburg, Sporting Lisbon and Chelsea... PaulHartman71
A big blow to the national team as Basel defender Dario Ospelt broke his leg putting him out for the calendar year and thus missing all of the Div D Nations League fixtures. PaulHartman71
We certainly didn't miss him at home to San Marino, beating the minnows 5-0, with Andreas Elkuch getting a hat-trick.

PaulHartman71
Not going to lie I don't really remember these games at all, but we did win our final two games in the Nations League to ensure we won our group, having won every game, with a spot in the Euro 2108 Playoffs in the bag. PaulHartman71
End of 2016 Review for Liechtenstein NT. Can't really ask for much more. Not sure if I posted the group stage of the Euros qualifiers but it's Belgium, Holland, Poland, Latvia and Luxembourg. I doubt we will qualify from that, but we of course have the playoffs to fall back on.

Cheers guys. I'm doing alright now, main symptoms are just static vision, after images and really terrible night vision. First few weeks/month or so I proper stopped watching TV or using computer/laptop etc apart from work, slowly been getting back into it now and my neurologist has said as my eyes are fine the actual condition hasn't come about as a result of screen usage which has set my mind at ease a lot.
PaulHartman71
All things considered I don't think we did too badly in our first Champions League Group Stage, we got unlucky to get such a competitive group and to be fair we only lost once which is pretty good going. We also beat Wolfsburg away on our final game, with former Wolfsburg player Eddy Pinto's goal meaning we at least got 3rd and back into the Europa League. As we know the Europa League is a tough competition in it's own right so retaining that will be difficult, but we've had a strong record in recent seasons so I'm hopeful we can give it a good go. PaulHartman71
January Window Out I don't remember particularly wanting to sell 27 year old midfielder Johann Elsener to China, but they came in with a good offer and turned his head by offering him mental wages, so I had no choice but to sell really. In The Basel-born young midfielder Serge Viala was a brilliant pick-up from Toulouse, unproven at the top level but with attributes like that he will surely be a good signing for the price paid. PaulHartman71
Don't have screenshots for a proper mid-season domestic update so this will have to do: Obviously pretty disappointing given how close we came to winning the title last season, but with the Champions League group stage this season the domestic league wasn't really prioritised that much and the way it works out even financially it's not something I'm particularly gutted about, although losing 10 games is a bit rubbish. We can go all out to try and retain Europa though so 4th/5th or higher isn't a big deal for me at this point. We beat a pub team to make the Semi Final of the Cup. PaulHartman71
Joshua Beck is a big miss through injury for the first set of Euros qualifiers, as we play Holland away and Poland at home.
PaulHartman71
A Dutch red card no doubt helped us along the way, but what a result, as we go to Holland and pull off a famous victory, with Ralph Schadler's goal giving us a 1-0 win!
PaulHartman71
Damien Schurte got injured in the Holland game so missed this one. Poland the better side for much of it and deserved the win, but Schadler's 2nd half goal gave us a glimmer of hope after a solid defensive performance kept it to only 2-0 before that point. Overall a decent performance given we stayed in the game to the end. I don't really see any chance of qualifying really even with the relatively flukey win against Holland, but with Latvia and Luxembourg up next we have a good chance to stay at the business end of the table for the time being. PaulHartman71
A solid two legs against St Mirren gave us passage to the Last 16 of the Europa League.
PaulHartman71
Not quite as comfortable against P. Ferreira, but we got through nonetheless thanks to a solid win in Portugal in the 2nd leg. Some tough sides left in the competition. Sturm Graz not the most difficult side on paper, but Austrian sides have been strong in Europa for a while so we can't take beating them for granted. Besiktas and PSG the biggest threats left in.
PaulHartman71
We actually looked like we'd be heading out for much of the second leg against Sturm Graz, who took an early lead on the night which gave them a crucial away goal meaning we had to score 2 without reply. A late comeback saw us do just that, there were some nervy late moments, but we rode it out to get through to face Osijek of Croatia in the Semis.
PaulHartman71
Narrow margins again saw us through, with a last minute away goal winner in Croatia from January signing Serge Viala, with his first goal for the club being an oh so important one. Not the best performance in the second home leg, but we got the draw that would see us through to the final. We face Zenit in the final, which will be very tough, I think we only beat them on penalties in one of the knockouts last season.
PaulHartman71
A fairly comfortable win in the final to secure Champions League football again next season. I didn't expect to win the Europa but we had a reasonably kind draw since the knockouts so we made it.
PaulHartman71
End of Season Update Liechtenstein Cup Super League Our form did pick up towards the end of the season, we finished 4th and 15 points off the title, a shame, but not really the priority really. PaulHartman71
II did expect a comfortable win against Luxembourg, but obviously you still have to go out and get the win. Ralph Schadler's superb form continues as he bags a brace to help us to a 3-0 win. So far, so good in the qualification, obviously not on track to qualify, with Belgium and Poland the heavy favorites, but it's nice to be up there at least. With 6 games remaining we still have to play Latvia and Luxembourg, if we could beat them both again, even if we lose every other game to finish on 15 points would be an absolute result. PaulHartman71
I put out a second string side to get some experience in the friendly against Gabon, we got turned over a bit which probably just says more about our lack of depth than anything else. PaulHartman71
Switzerland have slipped down quite a bit. Portugal having a nightmare down to only 2 CL sides after having 4 for so long, with Scotland back up to 4 and Spain down as well.
PaulHartman71
Andreas Elkuch dropped out with injury not longer after the squad was announced, as we face two massive games against Belgium and Holland, both at home.
PaulHartman71
An unbelievable smash and grab win against Belgium. We won a penalty against them in the 15th minute after Schurte got failed in the area, in one of the few times we actually got any kind of attack on them throughout the whole game. Sven-John smashed it home, then just 2 minutes later, after a defensive mis-communication from the Belgian keeper and his left back which handed us a corner, Dario Ospelt fired a header home to make it 2-0. The shell-shocked Belgians didn't quite know what hit them, and despite relentless pressure we shot up shop and saw the rest of the 75 minutes of the match out to pick up another famous victory!
PaulHartman71
A game we seemed doomed to lose from the 2nd minute when they took the lead, we held our nerve and stayed in the game against Holland, until in the dying embers of the match we won another penalty. Sven-John kept his nerve to score his second penalty in two games, to somehow give us a point
