Quick Update

Transfers

southamptontransfershis.png

We had some kitty left over as i hadnt spent much up until this point... so ive added some quality in terms of youth players. All were transfer listed from major prem players and have potential to make it imo.

In came :

  • Toni Silva - young portuguese winger from Liverpool
  • Martin Angha - 17 yr old swiss centreback from Arsenal
  • Krisztian Adorjan - 18 yr old AMC/ST from Liverpool

And lastly, a certain James Forrest of Celtic was offered to me by his agent, so i scouted to see what was what and it seemed like i could get him for around £4million, which seemed like a damn fine bargain for one of the UK's top prospects (or at least in my eyes) .. so i snapped him up quickly to go straight into the first team on the right in place of an irked Do Prado

Will update with results and news soon

Ended up finishing third in the Championship one point back from Nottingham Forrest, however we gained promotion through the play offs, beating Derby 4-2 in the final.

Zaha had a stunning second half of the season and finished on 33 goals.

So our Premier League Adventure begins:

I decided to maximise the money I could get to punch above my weight and settled for a top half finish this gave me £21m after fiddling with the budgets and requests etc.

Playing a network game against my mate who is Bristol City, we both got promoted first season and have done most of my transfer business for 2nd season, but am really struggling to find a decent RB who doesn't cost **** loads. Went for Corchia, they want over 20 mil, Fofana, 15 mil and romario has already moved. Anyone got any suggestions? I already have Clyne but I'm planning on playing him LB.

Yeah Montoya got released and turned me down for Rayo Vallecano :/

I had considered playing Clyne at RB but I've got Shaw coming through at LB and I bought Abdennour who can play LB so didn't want to get another one as it might block Shaws path to the first team. Even if I play Clyne at RB I only have him who can play RB atm so would still need another one, was planning on having a new RB with Clyne as backup aswell as being first choice LB then if new RB gets injured put Shaw in at LB and Clyne at RB.

Picked up some solid transfers at the start of the third season (vlad weiss, shinji kagawa, carlos fierro, romario and rafael toloi) all relatively cheap, infact all for under 20m. I finished the season with a flourish ending up in 4th. Now all of the players are under heavy transfer offers and theres nothing i can do to keep them. Although im looking at getting around 60 - 70m for them. There is no one close to their ability i can sign to progress further.. no one will enter contract talks with me (aiming high, looking for young players with high potential) just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how i can even come remotely close to doing that well next season. Classic case of players moving for money, how can i afford to keep anyone even if we are more succesful if the top 6 in the EPL are willing to quadrouple the wages i offer!

So I'm going to start a new game this evening with the Saints after watching them gain promotion to the big league.

So what I'm after is a hand please guys with who to bring in first season and who is deadwood and should get rid of straight away.

Any help is much appreciated please and also staff to bring in and staff to get rid.

@ iArsenal: I'd look at bringing in a top notch center mid, unless you're pleased with how the three of them play off each other. I'd probably look for a holding mid that is capable enough on the ball to not be a liability. Someone in the Tiote/Sandro mould, and ideally someone who is a great tutor as well. No need to rush it, what you have will do for the time being. But you can improve here.

The left side of your defense looks a bit suspect. Unless Shaw starts much better in the new patch and has developed quickly, you can do better at LB as he is not ready for the top flight. Same goes for Niang and Flanagan, without seeing their current attributes. But if you're not rushing to contend for the very top and the ECC, they will definitely benefit from playing consistently and will improve quicker. Just depends on what your priorities are.

Link to post

Thanks! Flanagan is not a regular starter as he is a back up currently I have Kevin Theophile - Catherine as my starter and Luke Shaw has been my starter since day 1 at left back because I want him to be developed to a quality starter. I really need help finding either a good ball winning midfielder or a box to box midfielder. As for Niang he has been quality for me as his first full season in the Premier League he has scored 30 league goals and 40 overall. I just finished 5th in my 2nd season in the Premier League.

Hard to argue with a scoring record like that. Guess he is ready ;)

For specific player advise, a lot of it obviously depends on how players have developed and/or transferred as well as your budget. You could probably get some good advice over here: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/276689-FM12-Looking-For-Thread/page10

Since you're about half as season ahead of me, you could look at Andile Jali (has turned into a good-looking box-to-box for me), Bertolacci (very well rounded), and Nainggolan. They have all developed into very capable two-way mids.

Starting the second season as Southampton after winning the Championship with 99 points (so close to the 100 point mark!) and finished 8 points ahead of 2nd (Reading). These were my signings:

Only on the 13th July 2012 but I've made some fantastic signings which I'll post when the transfer window has ended

Season 2 Review, 2012/2013

Our first season in the EPL, and boy did it go way beyond expectations! We brought in a fair number of people to round out the squad and build for the future, and I discovered an unhealthy obsession with youth players and free transfers.

League: We shocked the top flight by finishing 3rd on our first go-around! There were a few lucky breaks in there, like beating Man Utd on the strength of two red cards for them. Man City is emerging as our nemesis, as I am finding it damn near impossible to play well against their narrow 4-2-3-1 so far. The first half of the season was a dream, with great performances and good consistency. Things got a bit harder after the winter break, but we had enough about us to see off Arsenal to earn a spot in Champion's League group play next season. Ultimately City beat out United by a single point for the title, miles ahead of my Saints in 3rd. With a commitment to a respectable position, the Board and fans were ecstatic.

League Cup: I had targeted the league cup as our gateway into European soccer, and prioritized it ahead of league matches in most cases. Fortunately it did not cost us more than a couple or so points, and we coasted through to the semi-final. The semi-final opponent was Man City, who I faced 3 times in the span of two weeks as a result by book-ending a league match-up. We won the first match 1-0 and tied 1-1 in the second leg, to advance to the final against United. The cost was a 4-0 drubbing in the league fixture against City. The final was a very solid 3-1 win against a somewhat weakened United side that did not play the full first XI.

FA Cup: For most of the competition, the FA Cup was a chance for some of the youngsters to get some playing time. More than once it almost ended in disaster, as we had two replays against very modest competition such as Burton. Somehow we managed to stumble into the final, where we faced a tough Arsenal side. It was a gritty affair, with the game decided in our favor in overtime with an own goal by Djorou.

Finances: Not great, mostly because I insist on having a pretty large squad, and on buying way too many talented youngsters. We’re alright, but not much more. Hopefully Champion’s League will help somewhat, along with better transfer market discipline now that our squad is beginning to come together.

Squad: The Best XI for the season is fairly accurate, apart from Petrucci showing up in it for some odd reason. Sigurdsson turned out to be a fantastic signing, often being the difference between a draw and a win in those games where the team just didn’t fire on all cylinders. Bertolacci arrived on a free to start the season, and is developing into a midfield giant. Dos Santos came over for a cheap 2.2M and has performed consistently well. Muniesa was another free “can’t pass” signing, who has taken over the left back position. Sanogo technically was another summer signing, having come on a free after spending the first season on loan with us. He has improved dramatically, and is now labeled as a wonderkid. While we at times struggled for consistency, there’s a foundation for a quality future squad in place. The only flop of the season was Andile Jali, who I signed for around 5M but has struggled to settle in. He does quite well on international duty, so hopefully 13/14 will be his year.

Youth Squad: So I have an obsession. I spent nearly as much money on bringing in talented youths as I do firming up the senior squad. Coupled with a second intake that was over-the-moon good, we are poised to churn out top quality players over the next half decade or so. The top of the class for homegrown players was probably Kennedy Nyangweso, an English/Kenyan striker. The most polished youth brought in came from Malaga’s youth system for a whopping 3M, attacking midfielder Jesus Alberto Cruz. They joined a youth squad that swept their youth league while conceding only 4 goals, and won the U-19 Cup as well. As we are competing in the U-19 Champions Cup next season, there should be ample opportunity for all of our youths to hone their skills.

Key Signings: Sanogo (free), Sigurdsson (4.1M), dos Santos (2.2M), Bertolacci (free), Jali (4.7M), Falque (free), Muniesa (free), Borini (free), Podstawski (950k), Fierro (1.3M), Branescu (1.3M), Romario (free), Iturbe (3.1M)

Key Departures: Puncheon (2.2M), Joe Lewis (1.6M), Danny Fox (1.9M), Markoutz (5M)

Best piece of Business: Signing Oliver Markoutz for free in the summer, and selling him for 5M to Real Madrid during the January window!

Memorable Moments and Milestones: Adam Lallana earns his first cap, Sanogo is 3rd among EPL goal scorers and is labeled a wonderkid. Affiliate club Beroe wins Bulgarian "A" Group and earns ECC 2nd Qualifying Round berth with a number of Southampton investment and work permit loan players on the squad. Loanee Mahaya tops "A" Group goal scorers, Wolff Eikrem earns Midfielder of the Year honors.

Goal for the upcoming season: I am about halfway through the summer window, and my goal of transfer discipline is… out the window? I was in the market for a proven striker for some consistency in that spot, and had signed Marco Ruben on a free to help, as well as for tutoring. I then managed a bit of a coup by signing Seydou Doumbia for 15M over 4 years, so we are now way too deep up front again. Additionally, Gaitan became available at a measly 3.6M, and Weiss for a similar sum. Both will add good depth and variety at the inside forward positions, and cheaply at that. Guillermo Burdisso, Crisetig, and Strasser joined on frees as well. Barring a top notch CB or GK coming along, I am done shopping and will look to save the rest of the budget and money for the future. I’m sure there will be a couple of youths that can complement my current crop, however =)

The goal for next season is to earn a return to European soccer, although the Euro League is the realistic target. Hopefully the ECC Group draw is kind, and we can acquit ourselves well enough to move on, but either way a good run will be helpful for bringing in some much needed cash. A top 6 league spot, a win in one of the Cups, and a strong European showing will be a success in my mind. I’ll probably post a small update with a projected 25-man squad once the window closes and the season gets underway.

Hi all because of football manager i have adopted Southampton F.C as my second club was so pleased that the saints got promotion to the premier league! (Arsenal my first team FYI)

i'm a few seasons in on my saved game 2015/2016 to be precise so i'll do season summaries to try and keep it simple rather than massive paragraphs detailing every game of the season

so here goes.

2011/2012:

first season of the game was a very good season completely destroying the championship.

transfers in

Yaya Sanogo £2.2m AJ Auxerre

Craig Dawson £1.4m West Brom

Jack Collison £4.7m West Ham

Nicholas Barret free

Craig Reid 275k St Johnstone

Lewis Mcgugan £1m Notts Forrest

Out

Jason Puncheon 625k Leicester

Didnt really sell anyone to be fair, was happy with most of the squad but yeah successful summer i think well i finished the season with 107 points so was pretty good imo.

will update with season 2012/2013 shortly.

2012/2013 Premier League!!

their was a few free transfers from the club but none of them really mattered.... was quite a successful season considering i got a 5th place finish on 72 points 2 points below spurs and an F.A Cup win to my name left me with a very exciting future to build on!

UPDATE 2013/2014

After finishing 5th and winning the F.A cup i had a serious team to build on with my starting 11 at the start of season being:

so i had a pretty big squad overhall this summer and it was a summer that changed the club forever.

After Summer transfer window my first team looked like this:

Sanogo

Lallana Falque Ben Arfa

Cork Collison

Kurzawa Dawson Vertonghen Coleman

Dudek

subs

This team broke into the top 4 this season and was 4 points clear of 5th placed Arsenal and also won the F.A cup again, Carling cup and the Europa League a fantastic achievement for a promising team that was 2 or 3 signings away from being genuine title challengers in my eyes a very successful campaign!

Im just about to finish my first season in the Prem. Looks like im going to finish 3rd and im in the Final of the FA Cup. Very happy with that. Here's my starting XI

(i play a 4-1-2-3 formation). Sigporsson is a boss. So many free kicks and assists. Lambert is a super sub but will be taking a back seat with the arrival of Welbeck and the Ox. Radoi is a beast and is being chased by Milan and Juventus. Kadlec, Quintero and Troare all scored 15+. Just beat Man U 4-1 to end their 27 match unbeaten run.

Anyone starting a game as Saints on a transfer update? Should be pretty difficult with a lot of the original squad nowhere near good enough for the Prem, and some of the summer signings so far probably not up to much on FM, Gazzaniga probably crap and Clyne probably too young first season. Davis and Rodriguez are both good on FM though.

Going to give it a go now, will post progress.

dunno about that.. they have a very strong squad for a team just up from the championship...

cork, rodriguez, davis, lallana, clyne, schneiderlin, fonte, sharp, fox and do prado are all good enough for the premiership...

plus you have the likes of shaw, ward-prowse, sinclair in the youth team...

plus you get a healthy transfer budget to use (well, on the weegie update you do anyways)

Currently in my second season with Southampton, just been promoted to EPL with 94 points in the Championship finishing 1st.

1st seasons signings (English Championship):

Ahmed Soukhouna (Bosman)

Glenn Loovens (Bosman)

Darwin Quintero (1.7m)

Yaya Sanogo (3m)

2nd seasons signings (English Premier League):

Scott Brown (Bosman)

Matthew Regan (Bosman)

Patrick Olsen (Youth contract)

Laurentiu Branescu (4.7m)

Kyle Walker (3.5m)

Adam Llalana bossing the midfield as always, De Ridder also coming along and banging in quite a few goals a season. Jose Fonte was leading scorer in 1st season for a while (until the mighty Soukhouna & Quintero stepped in) scoring from nearly every corner. Sanogo scored 3 goals during my 1st season, pretty poor but will be interesting to see how he copes with the EPL.
