How Can I Make FM 2009 Run Faster?

Hi,

After a day of trying, I finally got FM 2009 working, thanks to some Microsoft DirectX update. However, it is very slow, and would appreciate some suggestions as to how I can speed it up a bit, especially the match engine, which I am only playing in 2D. At the moment I can only play one game an hour really, and I would be grateful for any help.

What are your system specs?

How many leagues have you got active - what database size?

Also, the game has thousands of files - so defragging possibly helps.

my brother had this problem, despite not using the 3d , the 3d check box is still ticked in prefs, go to prefs and uncheck it, it should speed up the game

Adding additional RAM does also speed up the game - and everything else.

You can degrag by right clicking your hard-drive - in XP it is Properties - Tools.

Steam also has a built in defragger for Steam games.

start>all programs>accesories>system tools> disk defragment

yeh how do you make it higher priority?

Ctrl-alt-delete -> processes -> fm.exe -> right click -> set priority -> above normal-high

More RAM is the best bet.

www.crucial.com/uk to check if you can upgrade and by how much. Run the system checker.

Do not increase the priorty of FM in task manager. It will take proessor time from the underlying OS processes and probably make the game slower rather than quicker.

Run the game on a computer, not a typewriter.

Inhell core2 duo E8400 with 4GB of DDR3 1600Mhz ram and GF 8800GT. works like a charm with 28 leagues running.

And thats just a (high) midrange computer today.

If I was to do that set as priority , would it be a case of switching it back to normal settings after you've finished playing the game.. or could it have a detrimental effect once setting has been changed
