nickdc
I bought a wide man at 18, now he's 22 and not signing a new contract that is better than his existing one. He says he's enthusiastic about his future at the club nut can he legally walk? If he stays will a fee be given if someone signs him up?

I am pretty sure that you get compensation if they sign him ... but not if his contract runs out and he leaves your club.
llama3
you won't get a penny if his contract reaches its natural expiry, cos he is available on a bosman
Nobby_McDonald
You do for a player under 24.
StevoRobbo
If you offer him a contract of equal or greater value to his existing one and the player refuses, the you are entitled to compensation.
Nik_Dut
If you offer him a contract of equal or greater value to his existing one and the player refuses, the you are entitled to compensation. Is this implemented in game ?
StevoRobbo
Is this implemented in game ? I presume so. It gives you that bit of info when a contract is expiring on a younger player but ive never actually seen it work myself.
Eles Gergo
My advice is to talk to the player say to him that you will offer him a new contract soon. Watch his reaction. Then press continue and try offering him again.
Nik_Dut
what if the youngster let himself out of contract, leave and then sign with other team, You know, Wenger style ?
StevoRobbo
Then you lose him. You only get compensation if the player is still under contract with you and accepts a contract from another club after you have already offered him a contract of equal or greater value to his previous one. This never happens in FM! (or I've never seen it happen in all the years that I've been playing it...)
StevoRobbo
Ive never seen it happen either but that is the rule IRL.
bigdanio
It happens every time when we sign from the AI, but I don't recall ever having a player U24 leave me on a Bosman. Players tend to let their contracts run out, leave the club, then sign elsewhere.
