Impossible goal

I've just conceded a goal where the opposition player was almost on the byline, inside the six yard box on the left hand side.

He took a shot from this position that hit the left hand post and went in - there's no way this could happen.

well, if he's at the left hand side of the goals, and hit the left hand (ie NEAR) post, then it should not go in...

The player that scored against me was on the LEFT hand side his shot hit the LEFT hand post i.e. the one nearest him and went in so totally different from your clip.

Not impossible just extremely unlikely due to the angles involved.

Surely if a shot from almost on the left hand byline in the six yard area hits the near post (left) it shouldn't end up in the left hand corner of the goal.

Yes the player that scored against me was on the left hand side (byline) within the six yard box the shot hit the post nearest him and went in.

What angle did the ball change direction by when it hit the post? Very possible it just clipped it due to the narrow angle they'd have to put the ball in, and could have an unpredictable direction due to any curl that they may have tried to put on the shot.

The shot went in at 90 degrees i.e. ended up in the corner of the goal at the near post it couldnt strike the inside of the post nearest him at the angle he was at.

Nope ball is struck from left hand side, hits nearside post and ends up in the back of the goal on the left.

Well, I can imagine a curled shot that actually hits the ground and thus bounces straight into the goal, and thus ends up in the closest corner of the goal?

Why not? it's not impossible. it's just the probability is damn low

Without a screenie, or a pkm (as i asked for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up there^^^ ) its IMPOSSIBLE to tell whether the goal is possible or not....

The commentary dosen't mention it hitting the keeper that was the first thing I checked.

How do I post screen shots ?

Screenshots are no good, you can't see the proper movement of the ball. Really neeeds to be a PKM.

There was one of these the other week in bugs forum, where the screenies show the ball passing through the side netting from the corner, but a look at the PKM would tell you it actually gets glanced injust next to near post.

Ill bet it actually goes in off someone, it's just the 3D match engine doesn't show it very well.

I've had a similar goal where it looks to change direction at the near post and go in, but in 2D it clearly came off the keeper, I think 3D failed to show his flailing boot, and 2D simply positioned the dot better being a bigger blob from above and all.

I have seen this before, and it really is impossible. Luckily it went for me rather than against.

The ball hits the near post, changes direction by 90 degrees, and nestles in the side-netting at the near post.

I watched an American documentary on ESPN about that goal.

3 or 4 scientists discussing how that goal broke laws of physics and it went on and on about it for over an hour.

Good ol' Americans and their statistics, probability, physics and percentages.

Keep in mind that the match engine isnt an exact recreation of whats happening.

Its more like an eye witness trying to show you what is happening.

I remember a goal back in 2008 that litteraly zig zagged over 30 yards past my defenders and keeper (as if it had a mind of its own) and in the back of the net.

In real life its impossible but in reality it was just the match engine struggling to represent it correctly.

Plus the other times people have scored or been scored against when the ball doesnt even cross the line.
