DodgeeD’s 10 year career challenge

The Aim

Starting out at a club tipped for relegation from the second tier of one of Europe’s top leagues, you have ten seasons to build as successful a career as you can culminating at the 2018 World Cup.

The Set-up

Going by the UEFA co-efficients at the start of the game, the top 5 ranked nations are Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France. You need to start a new game with the top two divisions only from each of those nations loaded.

Transfer budgets and attribute masking should be enabled. Key staff shouldn’t be necessary and it’s up to you whether you want to use real players or not.

You can then add your manager with a semi-professional reputation.

Eligible Clubs

You have to start out at one of the teams tipped to be relegated from the second tier of whichever nation you choose to start in. Those clubs are as follows (media prediction in brackets):

England – Barnsley (22nd); Doncaster (23rd); Blackpool (24th)

France – Tours Football Club (18th); Vannes Olympic Club (19th); U.S. Boulogne Côte d’Opale (20th)

Germany – Oberhausen (16th); Ingolstatdt (17th); FSV Frankfurt (18th)

Italy – Cittadella (20th); Sassuolo (21st); Avellino (22nd)

Spain – Huesca (20th); Cordoba (21st); Girona (22nd)

You only have to complete the first season at the club you choose. After that, you can take another job or stay on if you wish. Changing jobs is actively encouraged and international jobs may be taken with any nation at any time.

The Points System

You will be awarded points based on your acheivements:

Domestic

Taking over at a new club: 5 points

Promotion: 10 points

Promotion as champions: 15 points

Domestic Cup Winners (not including Super Cups): 20 points

Top Tier Champions: 30 points

Continental

UEFA Cup Winners: 25 points

Champions League Winners: 40 points

Club World Champions: 20 points

International

Taking an international job: 10 points

Qualification for a continental championship/World Cup: 20 points

Continental Champions: 40 points

Confederations Cup Winners: 30 points

World Cup Winners: 50 points

Negative points

Relegation: -10 points

The sack (club): -10 points

The sack (country): - 5 points

In the event that you get the sack, you can continue with your game and try to find another job or you can start all over. All of your existing points will be erased if you start again, however.

Obviously, before the points can be awarded, you have to post a screenshot as proof of your acheivement.

I will keep a leaderboard of those who have completed the challenge in the second post of this thread and another of those currently taking part in the third post. The challenge ends after ten seasons with the 2018 World Cup. You may carry on with your save after that of course, but you won’t be able to claim any points for your further acheivements.

Other Rules

1. Only official SI data updates/patches may be used.

2. Use of the editor or any in-game/third party editors or scouting programmes is strictly forbidden.

3. Loading all players from any nation is not allowed.

4. Player naming and discussion of tactics are allowed.

5. You may only sign players that you can scout or attract on trial.

I think that covers everything. I’m open to any suggestions for improvements/changes especially with the points system. I look forward to having some of you join me on this challenge! :)

I expect my progress to be slow as I'm running this as an aside to my saves gundo's and razer82's challenges but that's kind of the aim - a short term career-based challenge for a bit of fun. ;)

Personally, I'm looking to get the best out of the players this season in the hope of jumping ship at the start of next season. :D Hopefully, I can get a top job in Italy or Spain within a few years.

Went through pre-season this morning and all went well as we only lost the one game away to Wigan. I am having problems bringing players in though as the transfer budget is only 600k and any half-decent player seems to cost at least that... I may well stretch the budgets more than I usually would as the aim is to exceed expectations and attract the attention of a bigger club. ;)

I've had a slow start at Blackpool - knocked out in the 2nd round of the League Cup and no wins in my opening 4 Championship games. Hopefully, things will pick up once the new signings have settled in.

Btw, I will start adding people to the 'challenges in progress' list after their first season is completed. :)

After a pretty unremarkable pre-season i've just had my first competetive match with FSV Frankfurt, facing Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the German cup. We lost 2-1 at home, but we put in a promising performance and defied predictions of a thrashing so i'm quite pleased. I've not made too many signings as there don't seem to be too many good players available, but i'm pleased with a few of the signings i've made and we should be able to give most of the teams in our division a good game.

Good luck with your rival team Craig R.U.F.C. Maybe you can get short term success by over spending and then move on to bigger things and leave them to sruggle with the debt ;)

A promising performance against Dortmund Gypsum. Hopefully, you can start to grab the wins in the league. :thup:

I might give mine a start off now i only set it up the other day and i've been busy myself but same as you the weekend to myself so lets go! :) Are we allowed to post updates on here aswell as transfers?

You can update as often as you like. As my progress is likely to be slow due to my other games, I may start off with monthly updates. As a bare minimum, an end of season report is recommended and proof of acheivements is a must for the points table.

very interesting challenge, will either give it a go as one of the 3 English clubs or Girona because I went there one day during my holiday last week.

Cool:cool: Look forward to you joining the challenge. It will be interesting to see how people fare in different countries too.

Between work commitments and major progress in my save for Razer's South American challenge, I haven't had much time for my own challenge! I'll get back to it this weekend though, possibly restarting in France or Spain...

How's everyone else getting on?

ok here is my first update!

its now January the 1st hope u all had a good crimbo and a good new year....too far :p well spent most of my budget on 2 Players at the start of the season so i think i'll just be looking for players to sign at the start of next season provideing i stay up (i think i will :D) my are playing well enough, my star signing is jose-karl pierre-fanfan! (he used to play with rangers) enough talking here are a few screens! if anyone else wants more screens plase feel free to ask! :D

Good start Jamees. :thup: Maybe you can push for a play-off place. :) I signed Laslandes when I started with Blackpool too and he had a similar scoring rate. :rolleyes:

How many points do I get for ten years of mid-table mediocracy and getting knocked out of cups in the third round?

I started with the top two leagues of England, France, Italy and Spain. I didn't load Germany as my laptop would probably start to creak with ten leagues, hope this is OK.

So off I go looking for fame and fortune in Barnsley, if there is such a thing there ;)

ok so here it goes, well i finished 3rd in the league 1 point away from automatic promotion...i was gutted lol i drew Preston in semi final of the play offs got beat the first leg away 1-0 so had to win at home i did 2-1 but was enough went to pens....i was bricking it lol eventually won 8-7 on pens lol :D the final against burm i though i was going to get defeated and have to spend my second season in the championship....but i ran out clear winners with a convincing 3-1 win (altho i was losing 1-0 at hail time) so blackpool are now a premiership club...i think its a bit too soon tho...time will tell! my signing of the season was defiantly fanfan i suggest people to sign him scored a lot of headers from set paces had a few vital 1-0 wins with him scoring headers...thanks fanfan! here are a few screens from my first season!

now i got promoted i wanted to sign a few good players and a few squad....but i got a bit excited and signed quite a few old players :( and released most of my squad on a free....a rush of blood to my head i guess...im so going to regret doing it but hey ho! Here are my ins and outs this season so far, i know morientes is 33 but hes a blackpool player so excited and i couldn't believe when i signed panucci...36 but can still do a job for me...i hope :D
