It is the Scots who stand in our way now as we're somehow just one match away from Euro 2100 against all the odds.

This is not the easy tie that you would usually consider Scotland to be however as in this game Scottish football, through St, Mirren, Celtic and Rangers is back in the big leagues.

They won the World Cup 46 years ago and reached the Semi 26 years ago, although to be fair in recent years they've not been as good, with the 2098 World Cup being their first since 2082.

In the Euros their record is not quite as impressive, and perhaps encouragingly, they did not qualify for the last tournament.

They are ranked 59th in the world and whilst we have been drawn at home, we are still outsiders at 7/2 to win with the bookies, whilst Scotland are 4/6 to win.

I was thinking about it, but I brought both Moritz's on instead as it was those guys who helped get us this far so I felt they deserved the minutes more.

I was thinking more of locking in players who can play for Liechtenstein but may decide to go for Switzerland later if you haven't played them in competitive games.

  • 2 weeks later...

1st minute:

We're underway in a game that promises to be the biggest in Liechtenstein's footballing history. Scotland looking to be the party poopers here tonight following Rodney's unlikely run with his side, who look to qualify for their first ever major tournament.

18th minute:

Robert Paterson with the ball for Scotland in the opposition half. He's got Steve MacDonald and Matthew King further ahead of him, it will be King that he tries to find with a forward ball..

King heads it at across goal...

Kaua Schindler punches that away...

Not out the woods just yet though as MacDonald gets to the ball before Raul Badet, but Badet wins the ball back!

A great and timely tackle there to keep the Scots at bay.

37th minute:

A pretty cagey start to this game. Scotland have looked the better side but Liechtenstein have defended their lines well.

Seb Meyer at left back who has it for the home team, he looks to find Philipp Weirather ahead of him...

It is Weirather who has it now.

Weirather with a few shirts head of him, Sakir Hassler and Diego Buckhard perhaps the most obvious avenues.

It is up towards Hassler, who heads it down, tries to control it, he manages to get a pass away to DIEGO BUCKHARDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But he's sliced at it and it's gone wide. A half chance goes begging for the home side as Buckhard fires wide from just outside the Scottish box.

44th minute:

Scotland with a corner now. Brian Campbell to whip this one in, they've got Clark Rodger and Robert Paterson the big target men inthere...

It is Campbell...

Paterson heads it across the goal in a dangerous position...

BUT RAUL BADET GETS THERE FIRST!

A firm clearance from Raul Badet and that should take them to half-time.

68th minute:

Liechtenstein looking to make a few subs here, there's some tired legs out there and perhaps more worryingly Martin Zurbuchen looks to have picked up a nasty knock.

It's Zurbuchen making way for Lucas Brunhart, with Moritz Laternser coming on as well.

Liechtenstein defending a free-kick as these two subs are made.

John Erskine standing over the ball, he's about 25 yards out and might have a crack here.

It is JOHN ERSKINE!!!

AND THAT'S A FINE SAVE FROM KAUA SCHNIDLER!

Unclear whether that was going into the top corner or just above it, but Schindler makes sure to get rid.

91st minute:

Not long left on the clock now.

Scotland still trying to make something happen.

Brian Campbell has it just inside his own half...ohhhhh but Sven-John Stricker has nicked the ball straight off him!

Sven-John on the counter now, they could be in here...

He passes right to Lucas Brunhart who is sprinting down the wing....

Sakir Hassler is in the middle...can Brunhart find him....

IT'S SAKIR HASSLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But his header is saved by Stuart Hunter in the Scotland goal!!!

What a chance that was!

103rd minute:

It's been a tight first 15 minutes. A lot of tired and nervy legs out there.

Malcolm Wright the substitute with it for Scotland, he's got a cross on here, with John Erskine in the middle... can he find him...

Ohhh and another great clearance from Raul Badet prevents Scotland from getting in!

119th minute:

Moritz Schaan coming on for Liechtenstein... is that to take a penalty?

It's some story either way as Liechtenstein are a few seconds away from just a penalty-shoot out victory and a major international tournament.

And the drone has blown!!!

It's all over!!!

Well normal time is anyway!

Liechtenstein 0-0 Scotland

AND WE WILL HAVE A SHOOT-OUT!

Steve MacDonald with a big chance here. He could pile on the pressure by putting this in.

It's Steve MacDonald...

BUT SCHINDLER SAVES IT!!!!

OHHH WHAT A MOMENT THAT IS!!!

Kaua Schindler with the all important save and his side will have a chance to go level now.

LIECHTENSTEIN 2-3 SCOTLAND

And this, now the 22nd penalty, will mean every man has taken at least one.

Only one of each nation have missed so far, but if Sven Wechselberger misses this then Scotland will qualify for Euro 2100 at Liechtenstein's expense.

You wonder how much Wechselberger fancies this if his goalkeeper was up before him...

It's Sven Wechselberger...

OH AND IT'S SAVED!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCOTLAND QUALIFY!!!!

HEART-BREAK FOR LIECHTENSTEIN WHO GO THE DISTANCE IN THE GAME AND INDEED THE SHOOT-OUT, BUT THE SMALLEST OF MARGINS SEES SCOTLAND THROUGH.

A brilliant first leg, which almost saw us prevent PSG from getting an away goal too.

They came at us with a vengeance in Paris and sadly it was too much to prevent us getting into the Quarter Finals for the first ever time...

Overall pretty happy to make the Last 16 though!

Kaua Schindler, Sven-John and Martin Zurbuchen the Liechtenstein internationals who play in their cup.

Davide Pisanu, Heiri Blum and Maxime Lenoir all back-up players who ned the minutes.

Raphael Caglar comes in to the squad, with a host of other youth players getting their debuts, including Nilas Hartmann, as well as two of the most recent intake Pfifner and Goop also getting a run out.

A very comfortable win in the end.

A nice moment for Ridvan Pfiffner who broke the youngest ever goalscorer record that Gabriel Rinner set a few years back.

Nations League C Group has been drawn.

We will become reacquainted with the Norwegians (34th), as well as playing Bosnia (62nd) and North Macedonia (85th)

Not sure how competitive we can be but the group isn't as horrendous as I might've imagined. I think we probably get relegated, although that's not neccesarily a bad thing as if we go down, then win Group D next time we can get in the Playoffs for the Euros again :D

Cup Final against Eschen/Mauren sees Schindler, Zurbuchen and Sven-John starting from the NT.

Caglar wasn't quite fit to start.

The other players are all back-up/rotation players, as it's the final can't afford to blow it.

A bit OTT but we got the Europa League qualification which is all that matters.

Zurbuchen got 4 goals.

It's probably the best chance we had to make a tournament as we'll be Pot C of the Nations League next time and unlikely to qualify through that or a group stage qualifying session.

shame about that result.

If you relegate from C level of Nations League, winning D level the next time will put you into qualifiers again :brock:
