PaulHartman71
DJ: And we're back to deep dive into PSG's team for tonight. Up-front is the Argentinian Andreas Farias, the 25 year old with 20 goals in alll competitions for PSG so far this season. He's the main threat up there. On the wings PSG have two pacey experienced Mexicans, with Jose Valenzuela on the right and his compatriot and international team-mate Osvaldo Gutierrez on the left. Both players very quick, very dangerous, ones to watch out for tonight. In the middle of the park is PSG's captain and also the French captain, Parfait Kamdem. The experienced 33 year old deep lying playmaker runs the show for them and will be looking to lead by example tonight. In goal is the French international keeper, Kyllian Martin. It won't be easy for Young Boys to get past him tonight. PSG's manager is the German born Abalo Kamgba. Abalo, who opted to play for Germany rather than Togo who he was also eligible to play for, started his playing career at at Augsburg, quickly getting himself a big money £16M move to RB Leipzig. He was part of the 2065/66 side which won the Champions League for Leipzig. A few years later he moved to PSG for £107M, winning the Champions League with them in 2068. He also won the Euros with Germany in 2076, before retiring in 2084, having spent 15 seasons at PSG, becoming a fan favorite and club legend in the process. His managerial career started 12 years ago in Austria with FC Admira Wacker Modling, he impressed enough to get swiped up by Hajduk in Croatia after one season. He spent 6 years there, before getting a move to Anderlecht in Belgium in 2092. Then 2 years ago in 2094 he got a move to PSG. He's not a manager who really has a great amount of experience at the top level in the Champions League, he's never reached a final before, so from that point of view Thierry would certainly be the favorite on paper. PaulHartman71
No injuries for Young Boys means they could go full strength for the final. GK: Christopher Frank, the 25 year old German starts in goal. He's had 9 clean sheets in 16 Champions Legaue matches this season, will be looking to make it 10 from 17 after tonight's game. DR: Luka Lukic the 24 year old Croatian starts at right back tonight. The defensive minded full back can also get forward quickly with his pace when called upon. DL: Jordan Brown the 30 year old experienced English defender on the left. A much more defensive minded player than Lukic on the right. DC: In central defence they have the 26 year old German man mountain in Jesse Almeroth, with 28 year old Danish defender Martin Leth chosen to partner him. MC: In midfield we have 25 year old Norwegian playmaker Jorgen Kilde, who is paired with the 24 year old Spanish international Rafa. AMR: Serdar Bozkurt, the 24 year old German starts on the right wing, 26 goal contributions from him so far for Young Boys this season, he's their main outlet on the wing and they'll be hoping for more from him tonight. AML: Asa Petreski, the 23 year old Swiss left winger starts tonight, with the youth academy graduate impressing this season with 7 goals and 3 assists in all competitions. CAM: The Serbian attacking midfielder Branislav Novakovic has featured in all 16 of Young Boys' Champions League matches this season, set to make it 17 tonight, he will hope to add to the 23 goal contributions in all competitions that he has managed so far this year. ST: No doubt a selection headache for Thierry tonight, with Pavlin Milev having 20 goals and Chiekh Mbaye with 18, but it is the 24 year old Bulgarian international Pavlin Milev that he starts tonight. The write up for the final will be out tomorrow, don't think I'll get it finished tonight.

PaulHartman71
1st minute: It's time to kick off here in Cardiff. And the drone ref has blown for it! We're underway!
PaulHartman71
11th minute: It's been all PSG in the first 10 minutes. Young Boys not really been in the game. Parfait Kamdem with it in the middle of the park, he's got Valenzuela to his right, Gutierrez to his left, which Mexican will he go for? It's Gutierrez on the left that's gone for, he's got Luka Lukic to get past, ohhhh and he's done just that. Can he stick a cross in... he can... IT'S ANDREAS FARIASSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the German saves it! Christopher Frank with the save and that was a good chance for the French side.
PaulHartman71
23rd minute: Asa Petreski bombing down that left flank for Young Boys. He's got a few players ahead of him, the Bulgarian striker Milev in the box. Oh but the PSG captain Parfait Kamdem looking to intercept his run... he's gone in for the ball....ohhhh and that's an awful tackle! Kamdem, the French captain, 33 now, maybe not as quick as he once was, he's gone in really late on Petreski there who's down in a big heap. Thierry remonstrating with the robotic fourth official, letting it know that he's not happy at all with that tackle. Thierry wants a red for that and I'm hearing that it has gone to VAR and the Android in the Control Tower will have a look at that one again. We're watching a replay and it's really not the best tackle. Kamdem protesting his innocence, he reckons that's his first foul, unclear whether the referee would make the decision to send him off so early on in the game, but Kamdem shouldn't really give them that decision to make with a silly challenge like that. What's the Android made of that one... OH AND THEY'VE GIVEN IT!!!! IT'S A RED CARD!! PARFAIT KAMDEM, THE FRANCE AND PSG CAPTAIN, WITH AN AWFUL TACKLE, A BIG MISTAKE AND WHAT A MOMENT THAT IS! PSG who were, for all intensive purposes, dominating the game, are now down to 10 men in the 24th minute! What drama here tonight! A huge blow for PSG but a big big window of opportunity has opened for Thierry and his Young Boys team.
PaulHartman71
38th minute: Young Boys have grown in confidence with that unfortunate red card for PSG. Jorgen Kilde the Norwegian on the ball at the minute, he's got Bozkurt to his right, Novakovic ahead of him. He's passed it to Novakovic, he's just outside the box, he can shoot from here... oh and he has... NOVAKOVIC'S SHOT..... OHHH AND HE'S HIT THE POST!!! Big moment that! But it bounces off the post and goes out for a goal-kick. The Serbian with his head in his hands. He knows what a big chance that was, not sure that keeper was getting to that if he hit target.
PaulHartman71
45th minute: And the drone referee signals for half-time! PSG probably the happier of the two sides after picking up that red card. Young Boys not yet taken advantage, but those PSG legs will tire in the second half no doubt, certainly you would have to favour the Swiss side at this point in the game. We're taking a short break here, please enjoy some more 90's revival music.
PaulHartman71
50th minute: We're back underway in Cardiff and PSG have a corner. A set piece is probably their best hope of nicking a goal with just 10 men, although obviously they don't want to commit too many players forward. Osvaldo Gutierrez to stick this one in the middle...AND IT'S ANDRES FARIAS!!!!!! But the German keeper saves it! Not the best of headers from Farias and he'll have hoped to have done better with that one I think.
PaulHartman71
66th minute: Young Boys making a sub here. It's the Bulgarian striker, Pavlin Milev, who you have to say has had a pretty quiet game, who is going to make way for Cheikh Mbaye. Thierry hoping his other striker will make a bigger impact on this match.
PaulHartman71
72nd minute: Josip Begonja to take this free-kick for Young Boys, he's only just come on for Asa Petreski, who didn't have the greatest game, although he did cause the foul for the red card, seemed to pick up a slight knock in the process though. Begonja about 40 yards out, looking to sling a ball into the box. He does... and MBAYE IS THERE!!!! BUT HE'S HIT THE BAR!!! The woodwork again for Young Boys who are probably wondering if it's going to be their night or not!
PaulHartman71
89th minute: PSG mounting something of an attack here. Segovia passes it forward to Valenzuela on the left hand side, the Mexican is going to cut in here, looks like he might have a got on his right foot from a fairly audacious angle here... IT'S VALENZUELAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it's just wide of Frank's goal! With nothing in the box you couldn't blame him for trying, and what a try it was! Very nearly a last gasp winner for PSG to prevent this one going to extra-time, which I'm sure with 10 men is the last thing the French side want.
PaulHartman71
94th minute: And the drone referee has blown for full-time. It's 0-0 and this will go the distance, with another half hour and possibly even penalties. Young Boys you'd think would want to make that extra man count and avoid the relative lottery of a shoot-out, but PSG have dug in deep and defended quite well since that red card to their credit. It's time for us to take another short break, but once again, please have some more 90s music in the meantime...
PaulHartman71
98th minute: A few more subs for Young Boys. Charles Karlen to replace the very tired looking Branislav Novakovic at CAM, and Serdar Bozkurt, the right winger, who's not really been in the game, will be replaced by David Willcock. Somewhat of a strange sub in the sense that Willcock has only played in 9 games all season, very much a back-up player, but you wonder at this stage whether Karlen and Willcock are perhaps also coming on to take penalties. Only time will tell.
PaulHartman71
105th minute: Half-time in extra-time and it's still 0-0. PSG only have 15 minutes to go drag it out to a shoot-out and you'd have to say you'd fancy them to do it at this point as Young Boys have looked fairly out of ideas of breaking them down. Another short break, before the final 15 minutes of regular time!
PaulHartman71
115th minute: Just 5 minutes of the game left and Young Boys still looking for that goal. Charles Karlen trying to make something happen, plays a nice one-two with Rafa. Rafa looking to play through Cheikh Mbaye... AND CHEIKH MBAYE HAS BEAT HIS MAN, HE'S INTO THE BOX, CAN HE GET WHAT WOULD SURELY BE A WINNER AT THIS POINT.... OHHHHH AND HE'S SLICED IT WIDE!!! YOU'VE GOT TO HIT THE TARGET FROM THERE AND HE'S MISS-HIT IT. A REAL REAL CHANCE FOR YOUNG BOYS GOES TO WASTE.
PaulHartman71
121st minute: It's all over! PSG have ridden out about 2 hours of football with a numerical disadvantage...and now they're no longer really at a disadavantage, as we've gone to penalties. Thierry no stranger to penalties as a player or manager. Saw his fair few shoot outs at Zenit under Paul Hart, and his Besiktas side beat Man City in a final 10 years ago. Christopher Frank in his goal is gonna look to make himself a hero tonight and Thierry jogging over to him first, perhaps looking to give him some advice. This should be nerve wracking stuff, Thierry of course saying if he does win tonight he will retire at the end of the season, this of course wouldn't be his very last game due to a Swiss Cup clash falling next week, but that would be very much a testimonial in atmosphere if he can bring the Champions League back to Switzerland tonight...
PaulHartman71
Young Boys to shoot first. Charles Karlen to take it. He looks pretty calm on the run up. It's Charles Karlen... And it's straight down the middle and into the net! Well taken penalty, sent the keeper the wrong way, and Young Boys are in the driver's seat. YOUNG BOYS 1-0 PSG
PaulHartman71
It's Vincent Grange, the young French striker who only came on about 10 minutes ago, presumably, primarily to take one of these and he's first up so they must fancy him. It's Vincent Grange... OHHHHH AND FRANK HAS SAVED IT!!! A poor penalty really, quite soft at a good height for the keeper to save it, but what a start for Young Boys and Thierry! YOUNG BOYS 1-0 PSG
PaulHartman71
It will be the Spanish midfielder Rafa up next for Young Boys. He looks cool, calm and composed on the run up. It's Rafa... OH BRILLIANT PENALTY! Top left hand corner, goalkeeper no chance. YOUNG BOYS 2-0 PSG
PaulHartman71
Krzystof Morys, the Polish born German international left back to take this one. He looks quite confident... and he'll need to be, because PSG could really do with scoring this one. It's Morys.... And he's missed! His strike hits the upright and goes out! An awful start for PSG as they've missed their first two penalties... and what a chance Young Boys have now, as they're 2-0 up after 2 penalties! YOUNG BOYS 2-0 PSG
PaulHartman71
It's Cheikh Mbaye stepping up for Young Boys. Doesn't look all that confident. He's missed a few chances since coming on the pitch. Cheikh Mbaye.... OHHH BUT WHAT A STRIKE THAT IS! WELL HIT AND WELL PAST THE HELPLESS KEEPER! And that piles all the pressure on PSG now, who with every penalty now, must score, and if Ondrej Barda doesn't score this one then Young Boys will have won it with just 3 kicks. YOUNG BOYS 3-0 PSG Edited September 3, 2020 by PaulHartman71
PaulHartman71
Onrej Barda next up for PSG, the 23 year old Czech international must score. If he doesn't then PSG have lost this one and gifted Young Boys a sweet sweet victory. It's Barda... OH AND WHAT A HIT THAT IS! Bullet hit into the bottom left corner, Christopher Frank guessed the right way but he had no chance in getting to that. PSG have some hope here, but Young Boys will still be victorious if they net their next one YOUNG BOYS 3-1 PSG
PaulHartman71
It's the Croatian winger, Josip Begonja stepping up to take it. Came on as a sub, he's spent 5 years at Young Boys, he's got the chance to put himself into the history of their great club tonight now. If he scores this then his side have won the big one. It's Josip Begonja... AND IT'S SAVED!!! The French keeper parries it wide and Young Boys denied victory for now. It's a glimmer of hope for PSG, however slim it may be. YOUNG BOYS 3-1 PSG
PaulHartman71
We've gone through it earlier. PSG with their 4th penalty... and they must score it to keep the game alive. It's going to be Victor Manuel Flores, another one of PSG's Mexican players, he's of course a centre back by trade, not someone you'd particularly imagine would be a penalty taker but he will take this one. Christopher Frank mouthing obscenities at him trying to put him off. It's Flores... OHHHH AND FRANK SAVES IT!!!!! A HUGE SAVE FROM THE GERMAN AND HE'S WON IT FOR HIS SIDE!!! THIERRY RUNNING ONTO THE PITCH AS FAST AS A MAN IN HIS MID 70'S CAN RUN AND ALL OF THE PLAYERS ARE GOING WILD!!! A HUGE NIGHT IN WALES FOR SWISS FOOTBALL!! HE'S DONE IT AGAIN THIERRY, HE'S PUT SWISS FOOTBALL ON THE MAP TONIGHT AND HIS YOUNG BOYS HAVE BECOME MEN ON THE BIGGEST STAGE OF THEM ALL!! WHAT A WAY FOR THIERRY TO END HIS CAREER AS A CHAMPION ONCE MORE IN EUROPE! FINAL SCORE YOUNG BOYS 3-1 PSG IN THE SHOOTOUT

PaulHartman71
End of Season Update Super League Not the greatest performance in the league, as Xamax pick up another title, but we won the Champions League after playing 17 games, so I'm not gonna hold it against the team Swiss Cup Thankfully Thierry's final game didn't end in defeat, it ended in another trophy, as we picked up the Swiss Cup after beating Servette. A pretty kind run in overall avoiding both Xamax and Basel. Hard to really pin point any real star player this season, more or less everyone pulled their weight and let has have the European success we got. PaulHartman71
We of course won the big one, with a good run from St. Mirren, with only away goals preventing the first Thierry side and the last Thierry side meeting in the final instead. Chelsea win the Europa League, but only a shoot-out could prevent our tycoon backed friends in Xamax from pulling off a big Europa League triumph. Partizan did very well to reach the Semi, albeit getting absolutely trounced by Chelsea reaching it. Rosenborg and SKN St Polten also doing well to get to the last 8. PaulHartman71
Quelle surprise in Austria, as yet another title for Red Bull, although SKN St Polten were up there. A big year for Karpaty, who break an 8 year run of dominance from Shakhtar. Hajduk pulled off the surprise of the century winning the title last year, but lightening didn't strike twice, with Dinamo back on top this time, Hajduk down in 4th. PaulHartman71
Better than Fergie, not bad going overall for Thierry who squeezes onto the leader-board in his last season as a manager.

PaulHartman71
So I was going to put a thread poll in here to decide on whether we went with Derrick "Del Boy" Winder or Rodney as the next boss. My main hope/aim was to get a half-decent Austrian club first and then build them up, with the added incentive of going in blind with the save in German, as a side-thing to see how much of another language it is possible to pick up through playing FM. I've actually done about 3 weeks in DuoLingo trying to pick up the proper basics to be able to possibly pull this off. However, something else kind of fell right in my lap which I hadn't even really thought about.
PaulHartman71
SC Wiener Neustadt were an option in Austria, with options available in Croatia and Ukraine, most appealingly Desna who were champions of Ukraine for a good stint not that long ago, although in fairness I've just had a look and it was actually 40 years ago when they won 5 titles in the space of 8 years, so not that recent really Inter Zapresic in Croatia of course an option too. But there is another option there. One that, again, I'd sort of forgotten about and never really confirmed or denied whether I would go for, but Vaduz, of course of Liechtenstein have been a club who peaked my interest in that random year they failed FFP and got disqualified from Europe. They've also got the crazy thing of always qualifying for the Europa League if they win their domestic cup, which they always do, but then the downside of never qualifying for the Champions League unless they win the Europa League. I think it could be quite fun. It ticks another box too, as Liechtenstein speak German, so I can still do my little German experiment, and where it will take a lot longer to win the CL with Vaduz than any Austrian side, it gives me even longer to learn some German. I've also decided that it would be quite neat to try and improve Liechtenstein the nation, and to that end, I will have a rule where I can only sign Swiss, Liechtenstein or players HG in Switzerland/Liechtenstein, to encourage the use of HG players that come through the club's youth system. It also means that both Del Boy and Rodney can get in on the action. Del Boy will be using his wheeling and dealing skills at Vaduz, whilst Rodney will be managing the Liechtenstein national team. I haven't really done much international management for a very long time, so it will be cool to try and do that and see how far we can take Liechtenstein. I don't have any set goal I want or need to hit with them, but it would be great to have qualified for either the Euros or World Cup by the time I win the Champions League with Vaduz, if I can actually manage that!

PaulHartman71
In terms of facilities and finance Vaduz are in a pretty good place, have to be happy with all of that really. Small stadium, but based where they're based I imagine they'll always struggle to pull a big crowd. The big plus is the great training facilities, youth facilities and the good recruitment/coaching. They have no players in their U18s at all, which leads me to think maybe the game hasn't been doing youth in takes for Vaduz for some reason. No reason to believe I won't get any, but given their facilities and youth recruitment I would imagine them to have more youth players than they have. There's handful of youngsters in the Reserves, none of whom really that good, but I think and hope it can improve as we get intakes each year. I'm not sure if they will be good enough to make the first team at Vaduz, as even at Young Boys with Swiss recruitment, which I imagine is far higher than Liechtenstein would have, the players weren't always amazing, but they should certainly be good enough to reach the national team relatively early on due to the small pool of players to choose from. The bulk of Vaduz's players are all Swiss or Liechtenstein. They have an Argentine keeper, who is actually really good and the best player by some distance, possibly could've even started at Young Boys during most of my run there. A french central midfielder, who isn't amazing, a German centre back who is okay, and then an American at right back who isn't great but probably the best right back at the club. I'm not going to go too nuts on the HG/Swiss/Liechtenstein rule and won't be forcing them out this summer, they're all quite old so will probably be sold or go within 2-3 seasons anyway I should imagine. PaulHartman71
The pool for Liechtenstein is quite barren, at just 60 players, and some of them aren't actually eligible to be selected. The highest valued players are primarily Vaduz players, in Steven Kaiser and Daniel Tschutscher, who are dual nationality that have represented Switzerland at youth level, but not senior level, so technically could switch. I will of course ask both of them, but I imagine, certainly the much younger Tschutcher won't bother. Steven Kaiser at 28 could possibly be tempted, but I won't hold my breath. There's also Ecki Hartmann (nice surname) who is 30 and at Zurich, again, he could be tempted to switch and we're desperate enough that I will ask. The other one is the American right back, Nick Key, but he's actually played like 30 times for the USA so he can't make the switch, I just couldn't come up with a filter that would show potential switchers without including people who have been capped for their other country. The best player we have in the actual team is 29 year old centre back, Raul Badet, who used to play for Vaduz before moving to Perth Glory in the Australian League about 4 years ago. Not the best level to be playing at, but he's towards the end of his career now and he's still comfortably the best player. The only guy who seems to get any serious minutes at a Swiss Super League side is 33 year old centre back Marco Quaderer, who is at FC Thun, who just scraped staying in through a relegation play off. Our two best players both being centre backs could be quite good I guess, although Quaderer probably hasn't got much left in the tank.
PaulHartman71
In terms of how much German I've picked up so far, well I'm doing okay I guess. In DuoLingo I've more or less covered basic greetings. I've got the hang of hello, good bye, I am, you are etc. Sort of got my head around the way the masculine, female and neutral bits work in terms of hab, hat, haben etc. Some of the stuff I've had in the last week has mainly been kind of irrelevant stuff to me like food and animals, so I've not made as much progress in the last week as I would have perhaps liked. We had Del Boy's first presser and to be honest it didn't go great, he wasn't all that sure what was happening most of the time. At the end of it I stuck it back in English to see what I actually said and I think he said more or less the right sort of thing you'd want to hear in a first presser
PaulHartman71
Yeah so I've not really learnt any of that sort of stuff so I wasn't actually sure if they'd accepted Rodney's offers to play for Liechtenstein or not. I had a look back in English and... Well, it was worth a shot, but their answers were all "leider, nein", which means "unfortunately, no"
PaulHartman71
The first Liechtenstein game is actually so soon into taking over the job that the squad was already called up, which saved Rodney a job. I have absolutely no idea what he said to the squad, or indeed, in what tone he said it, but it seemed to do the job "Das ist gut!", which means "that is good!" PaulHartman71
This is how we line up for Rodney's first game in charge of Liechtenstein, a friendly at home to Lithuania. One big blow was Quaderer, the experienced CB playing at FC Thun, has actually retired from international duty and won't reconsider. Also I had to turn on English to pick the team, as the positions translate to German and come up really confusingly Badet a class above the rest of them. Although this Sven-John Stricker is quite exciting, didn't notice he was at Vaduz too at first, he's currently on loan to a 3rd tier side, but he certainly looks like someone who could develop into a very important player for the national team. Not sure if he develops enough to get any real minutes at Vaduz, but maybe if he pushes on a bit further.
PaulHartman71
Not the result we wanted in Rodney's first game in charge, but it wasn't a horrendous performance by any means.

Doesn't have the same appeal or charm as say French or Italian in that respect
