  1. I know it has already been said, but there's really too many high scoring games... I feel there's too many highlights from throw-ins and GKs aren't efficient enough. It's too easy to score, even with a balanced tactic.
  5. After our dreadful performance against Lorient today IRL (4-1 defeat....), I decided to avenge myself against Monaco to win 4-1 as well, using the first tactic that I posted with a few tweaks. I thought it was a nice pass map since we can clearly see the 4231 morphing in possession. It's just a shame we can't make the AMC only drift to the right to form a real box midfield, unless messing with the defensive formation.
  6. I'm curious, what is your set up with the BWM on defend and the Regista?
  7. Our new signing Tiago Santos has been amazing for his first games, and Paulo Fonseca even said we could change the way we play because of him since he's more of an attacking player... Last sunday, we played against Nantes (2-0 win) and we played with 2 attacking wing-backs since Bafode Diakite played as a CB. Therefore, we played differently. At times (especially during the first half), our formation looked like this in possession : Tiago Santos made inside runs and was higher than Edon Zhegrova. So I tried to replicate this in the game (I didn't tested it yet) : Of course, I just tried to replicate a certain phase of play that we could see but as usual it was pretty fluid so it's not really possible to replicate in FM. Note that I chose the advanced forward role for Jonathan David since he didn't participate much in the build up (only 17 touches).
  8. No, I like to keep things simple so I never use any PI, I trust the roles to do what I want
  9. Yes I’m trying it right now 👍 With Lille first season and no transfers, I tested it and got some nice results. After some games I felt I needed a secondary threat beside the CF so I just replaced the IW for a IF on support and it worked well : 5-0 victory against Nice at home (a similar team) and a 2-1 victory away in Marseille after dominating all the game (the goal I conceded was a (very) litigious penalty). I’ll continue the season and see how it goes
  10. Another replication here with the team I support : LOSC Of course it's really hard to replicate with 100% accuracy, especially with Paulo Fonseca and his fluid systems but I try my best. We know Paulo Fonseca likes to attack in 5221 (like most of managers nowadays), but he starts with a 4231 formation. The FB on support is usually a more defensive player to form some kind of a back three early in the build up but can go up to support the midfield (just like Ben White I believe). When we have to go more attacking, the FB can turn into a IWB on support The width on this side is kept by the right winger who stays high and wide and can destabilize a defense with his dribble and technique (tipically Adam Ounas or Edon Zhegrova). On the left hand-side, the width is kept by the left back, high and wide as well (Ismaily IRL and even Timothy Weah last year when Ismaily was not available). The IW will then drift narrower and behave almost as an second attacking midfielder. Our new signing Hakon Haraldsson is the perfect exemple. The AM can drift wide to the right since there's space between him and the winger. We could put him directly in the half space but I wanted to keep things simple and he will do that anyway even without PI. The double pivot is a DM with BWM attributes (Benjamin André or our new signing Ignacio Miramon) because the player next to him won't run as much since it's a Regista, but I kept a DM to better cover the left hand-side. I chose the Regista because it's exactly how Angel Gomes is used and he's been fantastic (even better than when he played as an AMC). When Carlos Baleba plays (huge talent linked to Brighton and Liverpool) he's more like a segundo volante or maybe a RPM) Finally, for the striker role, I chose a CF on attack (Jonathan David) because he's our main goal threat and since we operate in a high block and seek possession, he doesn't seek to break the defensive line all the time.
  11. The reason why I didn’t go for an advanced forward is because of his average position and heat map. But I agree he did make some forward runs but a CF also does that
  12. Love this kind of thread. I think Pochettino's Chelsea looked like this during the Liverpool game : Not really sure about the CF and SS (Jackson and Sterling) though.
  13. Good job! I noticed in this thread and in the 433 one that you pay more attention to the PI related to a role than the duty. For exemple, you seem to consider an inside forward on support as an attack duty player due to the « get further forward » instruction, same thing with the DLP on support with the « hold position » instruction. Personally, I pay more attention to the duty so even if I have an inside forward on support, I’ll have an attack duty player on the other side. Regarding the DLP on support, I didn’t play with this role this year but even with his instruction, I don’t see him as a defensive player so I would always pair him with a DM or a BWM, with the most attacking wing back opposite to the DLP.
  14. I use "stop crosses" because, since I play with 5 at the back and no wingers, I want my players to defend wider to help the wing-backs and not give up the flanks entirely. About my DM, I use a support duty because I already have 3 defend duties behind and also it helps building from the back. If I play him with a defend duty, he will not participate and the build-up and we will have trouble to play out of defense.
  15. Hey guys, Do you know what change could I make to improve the defensive record with this tactic? As you can see, we conceded 30 goals and we are only the 8th defense in the league. Rui Patricio wanted to leave the club in january so I bought a sweeper keeper to be able to build from the back. Mancini is the player I chose to be the Ball Playing Defender because he has safe passing options with Dybala as a support duty up front and all the attacking duties on the other side. I think the tactic would make much more sense if Pellegrini played as a APs and Dybala as the SS because of their attributes but also because in the current tactic, the right wing-back is the most attacking wing back whereas all my left wing-backs are less defensively gifted, but Dybala has the "comes deep to get the ball trait". I placed my best XI for the screenshot but we got a lot of injuries, with Zalewski injured for 3 months and Spinazzola injured a lot as well so El Shaarawy had to play there. Obviously all of this didn't help for the defensive record but I was wondering if you could spot any issues with my tactic?
  16. Is a Pressing Forward on attack a main goalscorer (just like an AF) since the finishing attribute is not highlighted as "key"? Would you pair him a SS in a 5221?
  17. I'm using a 4231 DM at the moment, with one IW on support, one W on attack, and a CFsu/SS combination, and my CFsu is by far the top scorer of my team (+30) while my SS scored less than 10 I think. But I think it can be explained by the fact that : 1. My CFsu is the best player of my team 2. I rotate my SS way more than my CF 3. I guess a CFsu is more likely to be in the box to finish than a DLFsu on support who prefers to let others players enter the box before him (it's in the description). I don't think a Target Man, even on support, drop as much as a DLF, and since he does not move into channels, I suppose he will score more frequently
  18. I tried a DMde/Volante combination, here are the results : With this role combination, we could expect to see the DMde sitting in front of the defense while the segundo volante pushed forward. But again, the support duty is always the deepest player, Baleba here is the DMde and look how far he is. Is this a bug or something? FYI, these 2 situations are different actions, we are not in counter-attack situations, and the player has no trait.
  19. Atttacking mentality + higher tempo + 3 players up front trying to score will lead to this Try to play with a positive mentality and/or reduce the tempo, with Saka as a IWsu instead of IFsu
  20. Maybe you could try to swap the strikers? I think that in this edition, CMs on defend duty will drop even deeper when there’s no DM. This + the fact that your striker in front of him is an advanced forward, there will be a huge gap (even when defending). The swapping may create an overload to the left side (WP+DLF+WB) to release the right side (AF and IW) Or you could also try to swap the CMs instead of the strikers, and see what happens with the WP and the CMsu. You could play with a BWMsu instead, if you are afraid that your CMsu will be too close to your WP. If you do this, I would change use a WBsu on both side
  21. Hey guys, I don't know why but I don't receive this report anymore so I never know what formation/roles/style of play my opponent will use When I go to the data hub and "next opponent", I can only see this screen : Is there a way to fix this problem? In my previous save, I remember seeing the report but it has stopped for no reason as well, I thought it was a bug but in this new save I just never received the report
  22. The names of the instructions have been change since, now it's "drop off more" and "step up more", if you play a standard DL with "drop off more", your defenders will position themselves accordingly to your DL instruction (standard). If the opposite ball carrier is free to progress the ball, your defenders will be more likely to anticipate a long ball so they will retreat, with the risk of leaving too much space in front of them. If you choose "step up more", they will be more likely to step up and limit the space in front of them
  23. You can set your DL to higher, in this way your DL will be closer to your midfielders in order to have a compact block. With the "drop off more" instruction, your CDs will be more inclined to manage the space behind them. That's useful if you want to play a mid block with a higher DL (compact block) but are still worried about the pace of a striker for example
