"The future of football manager" discussion
JordanMilly replied to DarJ's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I dunno, Unity has a much larger documentation and standardisation of certain parts of its coding, and isn't not a decade old unique game engine that's had bits and pieces bolted onto it. I'd hope it'd be easier to bug test it and find issues because of this, plus being able to work with a well-known engine and building things from the start again means less bolt-ons that call back to random bits of code that has knock-on effects on several parts of the game. I'm optimistic, and looking forward to seeing how this new FM will work. FM24 is sounding good too, means I'm less likely to just stop playing FM in the last month or two of the cycle, because I can just carry my save over to the new game. That's how I interpreted it too, and with those features having an extra year to be worked on, hopefully they'll be significantly better. I've honestly been really enjoying FM23, so I'm looking forward to both 24 and 25. I'd expect so, since all the info is included in the save. You can give someone else your save and they can play it with the custom database stuff in it, even without having the edited database themselves. -
Will never happen due to licensing restrictions, same reason EA or Konami don't provide them for FIFA/eFootball.

All my FM pain in one place
JordanMilly replied to SMV90's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
It entirely depends on where they're getting the shots off from, position of defenders, etc. xG can very quickly become inflated with getting tonnes of shots off, and if the majority of his on-target shots are, for example, like this, where the keeper nearly has the ball anyway and it's basically just being kicked into him: or from tight angles with little chance of success: then sure, you'll get shots on target, but the chances of those shots ever having gone in are slim to none. Meanwhile, if the opposition is getting decent space to get a shot off from in front of the goal where they have the largest surface area to hit in order to score, and where defenders may be blocking the goalkeeper's initial sight of the shot, he'll have a better chance of scoring, like this: So it's about checking out the shot maps, the heat maps for your player's movement, etc, to see where any potential issue is arising in them getting into the best position to score. -
It wasn't intended in the first place, and so was removed. Considering that the Court of Arbitration for Sport also ruled against clubs relatively recently for fining players for things such as "poor performance" due to the entirely subjective nature of that determination, and UEFA/FIFA have ruled against clubs allowing it, I imagine that it may be removed entirely for FM24 unless something changes in the next few months regarding the rules over player fines.

All my FM pain in one place
JordanMilly replied to SMV90's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
What you'd be better looking at is your shots on target and your XG from those, and the opponent's XG from their shots on target. It might be that your players are making speculative shots, with most well off target, and those that are on target are from poor positions where the goalkeeper has a better chance of pulling off the save (tight angles, etc). -
New Uefa Champions League Format
JordanMilly replied to Celtic501's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I actually agree, I like the idea of playing 8 different teams rather than the same 3 teams twice. It not only sets teams up against a wider variety of opponents, which IMO tests their ability more, but also increases the chances of a few of the smaller teams that were never going to get through the initial group stage of pulling a few big teams out of the hat, bringing them additional much needed revenue. -
Weird Steam Issue
JordanMilly replied to threelionsUK's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Reinstalling Steam doesn't usually require having to reinstall all the games, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. -
Crash Dump try advance next day
JordanMilly replied to lionheart23's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
You'd be best off posting this in the Bug Tracker section, and upload the save to SI via their system, so they can take a look. https://community.sigames.com/bugtracker/football-manager-2023-bugs-tracker/ -
FM23 match engine v FM22 match engine
JordanMilly replied to joebailey141's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Fully agree with @XaW- I honestly find the ME in FM23 to be a vast improvement over FM22. -
Mental Health and How Bad This Match Engine Is
JordanMilly replied to Drystone's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
For anyone who is having mental health issues, related to FM or otherwise, please do seek help. As someone who has had long term depression and generalised anxiety for over 20 years, and recently finally got diagnosed with ADHD and got help and medication that changed my life, I know things can get better if you're willing to talk about it. @Drystone, I would strongly suggest you speak to either your GP, or seek out one of the many mental health services available via the NHS: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/ -
I mean, the last database update has always been once the Russian and Chinese transfer windows close, so even if SI don't care about a number of windows, they do about those ones.
-
Since the Chinese/Russian transfer windows aren't closing until early April now, I'd imagine once those windows close.

Champions League requires fixed seating - as such, if most of your stadium is standing terraces, those parts will remain empty and not have tickets sold for them.

In my opinion, competition does little to spur on upgrades or development. I mean, look at the AAA gaming market at the moment - there's plenty of competition between different genres, like FPS, RTS, etc, but 99% of the time, they just all decide to use the same mechanics with the same visuals, because so much money is spent on game development nowadays, they can't afford to take a risk on something new because it's unlikely to bring in new players. Those games that do push the envelope, they don't make nearly as much money and are often ignored by the majority, and so can only lose them money. As businesses in a capitalist system, that is no bueno. This is without the huge scouting network that a game trying to take on SI would have to establish to try to replicate the level of complexity and accuracy SI put effort into.

Game feels slow/slightly lagging in game
JordanMilly replied to Russell10's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Unless you work with SI, you have absolutely no idea how seriously or not it's being treated, or how complex or not the issue is to resolve. -
Trying to Play FM 22 post FM 23 release
JordanMilly replied to streetlamp25's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
This is correct. SEGA is no longer allowed to sell the older version once the new one comes out, due to the licence agreements they have. Only way to get the game will be from a third party key seller, like CDKeys or the like. -
In trying to make a Tier 5 German database, I have it set up exactly as I had it last year, which worked, but this year I am getting the following error: I believe the 3 difference is 2 play off competitions that should be promoting 3 teams from the Oberliga, but they don't appear to be recognised. Also, I do have the Oberliga set to Flexible Format Rules. I will fully admit I might be missing something, but the database I have put together should, from what I can see, work.

Mac OS support below OS 11
JordanMilly replied to Nmason10's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I'm going to shut this here, given that @Nmason10 isn't interested in further responses. I would also suggest he take a look over the forum rules, as some of his responses have been unnecessarily rude. https://community.sigames.com/forum/34-house-rules-forum-guidelines/ -
Removed a whole bunch of posts that included stuff against the forum rules - it's one thing to have opinions and feedback on the game, it's another entirely to start directly attacking staff. I'd suggest people give a read through the forum guidelines, because if people post that again, they will quickly find that they're resigning from being on the forum. https://community.sigames.com/forum/34-house-rules-forum-guidelines/ As @Neil Brock has said before, and had to repeat more times than he should have to:
