Timma Posted July 8, 2007 Share Posted July 8, 2007 Prescott Steps down After 3 years in the job Celtic manager Tim Prescott has revealed he is leaving the club to join the team he has supported since he was a boy, Arsenal. This is what he had to say about the move. Ever since i started out as a manager thirteen years ago at Stevenage i said that my aim was to become the Arsenal manager and now that i have the chance i really couldnt turn it down and it was the only club i would of left Celtic for. My time at Celtic has been great winning 3 league title the FA and league cup and i leave with great memories especially winning two of the league titles at Ibrox. The only dissappointing thing is that this season was not good enough as we only won the league when i expected more but i leave the club in a great position and hope it succeeds in the future. Well what a season for Hayes fans once again, another run into the play offs where unfortunately once again the dreams where shattered in the final, this year by Mansfield, but the overachievers have done well to get this far again and surely it will be soon that the team gets promoted. The hero's of the season were once again Greene with 25 goals but joined by fellow new signing Petrovic who smashed in 20 goals alongside him, a great partnership which will be missed next season as Petrovic broke his leg in the Play Off Final meaning he is out for upto 11months! We enjoyed some great football though at Hayes with the new signings that came in getting better as every game went on, Lien, Kristianssen etc are still very young players and it will be interesting to see how the lads get on next year, if they are still at the club that is! Offers are coming in by the dozen for the young Hayes prospects! We have a new record holder at Hayes though! As expected though of course, Greene has scored the highest amount of League Goals for the club, currently the record at 81 goals, we will see if this young man can raise the bar and enter triple figures for the club! Greene also set a new record for most goals in one match by scoring 4 goals against Basingstoke, unfortunately Paul had already been sacked months before this game, but still a great win and record for Greene. A new record attendance was also set at Hayes for this season and hopefully this will get even better next season which may even see the Hayes get promoted! So stay tuned to see what the summer brings for Hayes...... So while the player now go off on Holiday, Gold will now continue working hard as he travells to the European Championships to meet up with his Northern Ireland squad! The European Championships are upon us and as Gold already predicted, its going to be an unpredictable and incredible summer...... So Northern Ireland got drawn in Group D, D for the Group of Death of course! We would be facing Holland, Czech Republic and Italy! Three very good footballing nations who have all been at least once in a European Final and two of them have even won it at least once! So its going to be an uphill battle...... NI vs Holland A very tough game against the three times winners and they showed they were up for it again as they took the lead after 36 minutes through Hulshoff, but the more dominant side was of course NI and we were rewarded just before the break with a more than deserved equaliser from our captain McGovern. We should have even won the game but Kelly missed a penalty! But a good display from the lads for their first outting in a major championship Full Time: NI 1 : 1 Holland NI vs Italy Another tough encounter and a game where the Ref seemed to be on the Italian side as it was amazing that foul after foul their players were not receiving cards, but justice was done when Matchett broke the deadlock on 20 minutes to bring us into the lead, it was followed up by the man who plays in Italy, James Hall, he rattled the back of the Italian net just after the hour mark to double the lead. With just a little under 10 minutes to go justice was done again as Italy finally had a man sent off! But they did then also get a goal deep into added time! Full Time: NI 2 : 1 Italy So far unbeaten after two games and a very good start to the championship for NI, Holland also beat Italy which means NI top the group with one game left to play, which is against the Czech's who have now nothing to play for after losing to both Italy and Holland and are on their way home. NI vs Czech Republic Already out and with no goals scored the Czech fans are going home, and it got no better for them against us as we put more misery on them, with no goals they go home as Hall and Kelly score the goals which take us through as group winners. Both goals came in the second half and although a Czech's put up a good fight, it was just never enough! So the co hosts have survived the Group stages and England too, its going to be a tough game versus Spain, we played them in the Qualifiers and back then it was a tough affair! NI vs Spain What a game! It was anything but boring despite after 90minutes of brilliant football the scoreline was still 0-0! Both sides had some brilliant chances to win the game but neither could take them! Extra time was called upon! Will one of the sides snatch it or will we see Penalties! Well the first half of extra time went by with still no goals for either side, only 15 minutes seperate the sides from the dreaded shoot out....but then.....PENALTY!!! Kelly is brought down in the area, one of the youngest players on the pitch will take it, Devlin who has filled in for the injured McGovern......GOALLLLLLLL, Northern Ireland take the lead. Spain countered immediately with putting all men upfront, they got a corner, then another.......but then they got a Red Card! and with that, the game came to an end, Northern Ireland make the Semi's! Full Time: NI 1 : 0 Spain Other Results, Scotland and Ukraine finished 1-1, The Scots then won on Penalties, Wales beat Germany 1-0, Holland knock out England with a goal to nil. The Semi final draw sees Scotland face Northern Ireland, Wales against Holland, for a place in the final! NI vs Scotland Its a suprise to see both these teams in the Semi Final but Gold did predict the unpredictable, it was NI who also took advantage with just 6 minutes gone as midfield king Corrie scored a 30 yard piledriver, no chance for the keeper, things got worse for Scotland as their star strike Kane then got sent off with not even 20 minutes gone. The first half was then wrapped up with a tidy 2-0 lead by the only man who could, Matchett broke past the Scotland back four and brought delight on his managers face. In the second half Scotland came out fighting and even got a deserved goal but after this the game fizzled out a little and Northern Ireland held on to confirm their place in the final! Full Time: NI 2 : 1 Scotland Wales took Holland to penalties, however the Welsh wernt so lucky in the shoot out lottery and lose 2-3 on pens. NI vs Holland @Hampden Park Both teams qualified from the Group of Death! What a final this should be! The three times winners against the debutee side Northern Ireland, and it was very much a game of two halfs, Northern Ireland dominated the first half completely and fans were asking the question of how many! But it took until the 35th minute for the deadlock to be broken and then it broke in great fashion! A great solo run by the only man who could, Matchett, tore the Dutch defence apart and smashed it in, then just minutes later Matchett again broke past the Dutch defence, this time he didnt do it alone though, the rushing keeper comes out only for Matchett to cut it inside to Hall who slots it into the empty net, two goals to nil we go into the break and the Dutch were disappearing without a trace! Just ten minutes after the break the Dutch were coming back in it, a clever free kick saw them get their goal and from then on it was game on again, The Dutch attacking like made to get an equaliser and the Northern Irish lads doing their all to keep them out....the minutes ticked by...the Dutch were getting close and closer........and then..........then it came...the faces of the Northern Irish fans turned..........TO JOY!!!!!!! THE FULL TIME WHISTLE!!! NORTHERN IRELAND ARE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!!!!!Unbelievable, Gold celebrates like mad on the touchline with his U21 manager Davie Orr, neither can believe that the side have got this far let alone win the damn thing!! The unbelievable has happened, with this title Northern Ireland have also moved up of course one more place in the Fifa World Ranking, Northern Ireland are now Ranked No 1 in the World!! Other News Steve Gold and The Northern Irish FA would like to thank Davie Orr for his services for managing the U21 squad for the past championship qualifiers, although the squad didnt qualify a lot of talent was unearthed, Davie Orr moves onto a bigger job now in taking on the job as manager of Switzerland. However the manager and squad had to concentrate on their next big major challenge, the World Cup qualifiers. Only the Group Winners automatically go through and that will have to be the aim for this side. Its not an easy group by any means as we will be facing the likes of Serbia, Portugal and Turkey! World Cup Qualifiers @Windsor Park vs Portugal Well what an opening game infront of the Northern Irish fans and they were treated like royalty! It took only 21 seconds and Matchett smashed the back of the Portugese net to let them know they dont stand a chance. The dominance continued and Kelly nodded in a second minutes before half time, although the dominance continued, we couldnt add any more goals to the misery of Portugal but keeping a clean sheet was a great added bonus for the European Champions! Full Time: NI 2 - 0 Portugal @Rheinpark Stadion vs Liechtenstein We faced them in the Euro qualifiers and once again we showed them a goal bonanza! Although they scored two goals late on we were already strides ahead but well done to the little nation on getting two goals, its just a shame we banged in 6 past them eh! McEvoy, Matchett, Lockhardt and Kelly with a brace bagged the goals for the European Champions, the other goal was an own goal! Matchett is only one goal away from the big 50, so hopefully he can bag that golden marker at the next game! Gold has also set a new Northern Ireland record with having now won 8 games in a row, which also goes along nicely that the last time Northern Ireland lost a game was back in 2018 in November! Northern Ireland at the very top of the Footballing World......who would have thought that! After the first three qualifiers they are still ranked No 1 in the Fifa World Rankings! Guest Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 The end of Kettering onwards. I went back to Kettering to find i had about 6 players left. A job came up for a couple of teams in conf north and so i thought rather than try rebuilding here i'll go to where i have some players! Only the board found out and forced me to resign....at least i got the job at fasley celtic. Tipped to go down by the media and expeceted to battle against relegation from the board and fans alike i went to it looking to strengthen the squad. One problem...i wasn't allowed, the club were in so much debt i couldn't bring in anyone, and needless to say no one fancied coming to farsley celtic on loan! So after a bit of tinkering around with the tactics i managed to put a good run together and was at one point only 7 points off the playoffs, no surprise...it didn't last and before long i was in the relegation zone. I thought i'd just have to accept defeat...i wasn't able to make it to the session but my assistant manager has pulled off a miracle kept us up by 5 points much to Lees' dissappointment i dare say.
