nearly there

23 games gone in the league and we're top of the pile in league two, with 1 defeat and that came from Yeovil, things are looking good for us. the signings of Hartley and Spence have been a huge boost to the team, these two boss the midfield and support my front two rather well, resulting with Palmer netting 13 from 18 league games and Lourougnon 9 from 15.

Almost 9 months unbeaten at home in the league, last team to beat us was last years champions Nuneaton 1-0.

With the top three going straight up and 11 points clear of 4th place Oldham, the pressure kind of off, but a few draws or defeats could see us struggling to keep our automatic promotion slot.

only issue we have is the huge squad I’ve build up over the seasons,73 players in total and there another two joining in January, got to look at offloading a few of the dead woods and trim the squad down a bit.

As the chairman loves to cap my wages to £120 a week.

Maybe try and get a feeder team like Basingstoke or Hayes icon_biggrin.gif

So whats been happening at Hayes since that illustriate season in which they managed to get runners up in the Conference South? Well not a lot actually, with some bad timing its been a very big uphill task to reform the team actually as I had lost literally all my squad due to contracts running out and not being there to renew them, so here´s a quick guide.

Well we finished a disappointing 9th the season after and then it really went downhill, we lost a lot of players and it was difficult throughout both that and the next season to find players, we then finished 13th, now that was bad enough but then losing everyone including star striker Kyle Wilson who had knocked in a record 28 league goals times were going to be tough for the season ahead.

What made last season worse was that we couldnt sign anyone to start with, no one decent would come so I had to result to being lucky and buying just anyone who was was willing to join and hope their gonna be good enough!

Main thing of course was that Hayes was starting to look good in the Conference South but with the clerical error of not being there to renew transfers it undid all the good progress that was being made, the club had finished every season better than the previous manager and that was a good sign.

So last season, I expected Hayes to get relegated with such a poor squad, no real strikers to name of and only one class midfield, but one player doesnt make a team!

I managed to buy in some very experienced league players into the squad to try and rescue Hayes but without a doubt, I was going to have to buy throughout the season and look for much younger players to turn the team around and start back on the progress road that we had been on, it was not going to be easy......

So in came, Simon Rusk, Jamie, Hand, Wayne Hennessey, Adam Lockwood, Paul Tierney, Pawel Abbot, Gary Herbert, Cristian Levis, Daniel Climo, David Chadwick, Craig Fagan and Lee Fowler.

All bar Wayne were old but known faces around league football and I hoped they could use their experience to help gain stay in the league.

It started off well with 3 wins out of 4 but then the honeymoon was over, 4 defeats in a row hit us very hard and it was difficult to turn things around but we managed to somehow!

This is how we did, after many poor results I know the fans and board wernt too happy but I was determined to bring in new faces, young faces, my goal is to take a squad with what was probabaly an average age of over 30 to the mid twenties, someone said you cant win anything with kids but I need players who are young and hungry for football and success, although we wernt even half way through the season I had made my plan for next season, I need to bring in young players who can also learn from each other and have that hunger.......a revolution at Hayes you may say!

Before the Winter they started to come in, first Stephen O´Leary, right winger who had been playing for Wrexham.

John Corrigan, played at Scunthorpe before being released, can play on the left wing and upfront

Bobby Mitchell, central defender who also played at Wrexham.

Stephen Rooney, ex Linfield youth player, right back.

Martin Scott, central defender, played for Gravesend but his contract ran out

Kevin Greene, striker, young Northern Ireland striker with bags of potential in my eyes.

Walter Law, Scottish left back, former Man Utd trainee released by Barnet.

John Dixon, Goalkeeper, young Irish keeper who´s regularly been representing his country at U19´s

The only player to reach 30 was O´Leary but he was very much needed, the rest were all under 25 and very much needed to replace the old defence and slow defence that I had kept for years and years.

We managed to pull away from the drop zone and make our league position safe, the potential in the players I had signed could easily been seen, Greene, Law, Rooney and Dixon are all showing hunger to succeed at all costs.

So we finished mid table in 12th, which was good considering with what we had started with, the rebuild over the summer came too.....

Season 2016/2017

The new beginning had started at Hayes, not only has the club been in debt for many years, it was time to sort everything out once and for all to build for the future.

So every player over 30 bar O´Leary got free transfered aswell as every player in the Reserves and Youths, this freed up a lot of wages and took us well below the Wage Budget, which the club then decided to also lower down to just 4,500!

But I still managed to bring in players that fit the bill.

Charles Robbins - Makes a return from Accrington, I lost him under Bosnam as I arrived at the club but the 3 games I had with him I knew I wanted him back, finally he returns!

Ian Little - Former Mansfield striker who will hopefully score a good few goals

Steve Daniels - Played for both Villa and Killie, well ok, only in the youths but looking like a top defender.

Bradley Drysdale - The coup of the summer for us, contract run out at Gravesend so we snapped him up! As Gravesend got to some Fulham youths before us a couple of seasons back Im more than happy to snap this young defensive mid away from them!

Nathan Stewart - Right sided winger from Crewe, at 6,4 he is not just a winger but a great target man at setplays.

Jon Taylor - Leicester youth player who just didnt cut the grade, joins us with delight, a bright future for this lad.

John Ellis - Striker who played for Posh and Exeter scoring bag full for both, lets hope this continues.

Jason Bennet - A top notch defender who we lost out to last season to Torquay, well he rejected a renewal and joined us instead, should do well after even rejecting a lot of league clubs to join us. Even stated ambition when joining us.

Rocky Lekej - Another Gravesend player, had also spent time with Sheff Wed, contract run out and with 13 assists last season in the Conference National, it was hard to turn this guy down for the South.

Matthew Hazley - Last but not least, another Gravesend player, with superb ave ratings in the last 9 season for Gravesend and about 80 assists in them 9 seasons I just had to sign him up, he rejected at first but a little negotiation did the trick!

Getting Hazley was more than I had hoped, a superb talent at 28 years old, even in his worse season he still got 10 assists at Gravesend, should set the Conference South alight on the left wing.

The season has been very exciting so far, despite us losing our first game to Tiverton of all teams! It was an away game though and that was something that needs to be improved in future as at home, we have very rarely lost.

We won our next game, which was at home and then somehow managed to Lewes of all teams despite complete domination, it seems we dont have a killer instict when we play away!

But we dont give up so easily as we beat our bogey team Crawley 2-0 and went on a 7 game unbeaten run including a draw at Northampton who came from the National and a 4-2 win against Dag & Red, it saw us rise to the top of the table.

A loss to Sutton Utd came though and a home loss to Tamworth too, this wasnt too bad but we then went out of the FA Cup to Bognor of all teams despite slaughtering them at Home it should have been signed sealed delivered but you know the one shot one goal rule, it came into play for Bognor and they got a draw! Then won in the return leg, where the same thing happened!

Anyway, we beat Redditch away and St Albans got a 4-0 kicking for coming to Church Road, Folkestone were then beaten in the FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round where we also progressed from the 3rd round against Stamford to put us into the hat for the FA Trophy first round were we would face Redditch.

In the league, the form continued with a couple of 2-2 draws against Woking and Cambridge City, before beating Bognor of all teams! Our only recent defeat came the National relegated Forest Green where we lost 1-0.

We´ve picked ourselves up from that defeat though to go on and win 3-1 and 3-0 against Slough and Tiverton respectively!

To round things off, we played our first round match against Redditch in the FA Trophy and can happily say that we cruised through to the next round with an impressive 4-1 win.

At the moment we sit 3rd in the table with a game in hand and could, if we win and results go our way make our way back to the top where we were earlier already this season. If we continue to make strides like this then maybe a play off place can once more up for grabs and who knows, promotion!?

So far then I have taken the average age of the squad to 24, which I am more than happy with as I wont have to buy too many players in the coming winter transfer window or even the summer, its certainly a team for the next couple of seasons.

Player progression has gone very well too with John Dixon having now already earned two U21 caps for Ireland and making a breakthrough there.

Stephen Rooney has two U21 caps for N.Ireland but unfortunately has now turned 22, but maybe if he continues his good progress a senior call up is possible.

The strikers I have brought in over the summers havnt lived upto what I expected them to, maybe their still settling in but their much better than what I had last season, apart from Greene of course, he is setting things alight at Hayes, 13 goals to his name this season, 11 in the league, the 19 year old has also now had two U21 caps for N.Ireland and a goal too, Im expecting bright things from him and if he continues the way he has been then I can see a big club coming in for him, it will be hard to let him go, especially if we dont go up sometime in the future but financially it would be very beneficial.

So thats it from Church Road, plenty of action and a marathon weekend coming up, stay tuned to see if the Hayes revolution can turn things even better!

Margate.PNG

Margatefc.co.uk spoke to Manager Robert Knottthis morning to find out about the joys of promotions , who was signed and what to expect this season?.

when asked about promotion he said: Well i was really pleased for Margate players, fans and the chairman of course. We spent big last season in terms of wages and the chairman was almost pushing me for results which i havn't been use to at Margate FC.

I always had confidence in my young team after all the heart ache of loosing before my team oviously learnt from their mistakes and dealt with them correctly when they arose last season!.

To be crowned Champions was always a bonus but getting out of this league was priority and i didnt really care how we did it.

Speaking after turning down a open bus tour of Margate, manager Robert Knott said i didnt want the players getting carrid away this season was going to be hard and i wanted them to be prepared.

Speaking on new faces he said ... we have been able to bring in a total of 5 new faces which is good because rivalry for places always helps results and training. 3 out of the 5 notable have league experience which i feel is vital until we are established in this league.

They were :

Ben Chorley CB

DJ Campbell CF

Neil Danns CM

The Two other signings were :

Kevin Coleman MR

Tom Burrows MR

When asked about this season Manager Robert Knott said i want them to hold there own in this league avoid relegation and anythink else is a bonus !

failed

after leading the table for such a long time, its kinda hard to take that I missed out on going up on the last day of the season in front of 78,000 fans.

things where going great until the changing room unrest, when now retired Stephen Wilson kicked up a stink about being fined for not going on loan.

this lead to the team underperforming picking up 2 wins in all comp over 18 games. with leading marksmen Palmer and Lourougnon goals just drying up, althou we never fell out of the play offs in this time the damage was already done.

Season 2016/2017

Well what an end to what has been a very tight league at the top of the Conference South, in the last 16 games we only lost one game but unfortunately we drew a few too many meaning we didnt get top spot but for the second time in the history of Hayes since ive been manager we have got a play off place!

In those 16 games we managed to beat Northampton, which was pleasing as they were a national side, Dag Red got beat again aswell, some quite pleasing results, nothing over the top though!

So into the play off we went, our semi final opponents would be non other than Northampton of course, who apart from the last league game, have normally given us some trouble as they got a great pair of strikers who we need to look out for.

1st Leg Play Off

We were at Church Road infront of a record 5281 record crowd, what a dramatic game it was! Lee Fox converted a penalty after just 5 minutes to give us a great lead, but then, Northampton scored to level after 21 minutes and got a goal a minute before half time to take the lead, surely we cant lose at home! Well, after the break we hit them immediately with an equaliser, then no other than the most talented player on the books, Greene slots the ball home 2 minutes before time to make it 3-2 and lead us into the second leg at Northampton......its gonna be a tough away game. Sheridan got both goals for Northampton.

2nd Leg Play Off

Well, both sides carried battle scars into this game, 3 injuries for the Hayes but even better, Northampton had both Sheridan and Loughran out injured, their best strikers this season. It wasnt as dramatic as the first leg but here we actually enjoyed plenty of possession too and our defence stood strong, Ellis broke the deadline on 41 minutes to settle not just the game but cement our place into the Final of the Play offs........can Hayes make it all the way to the National!!?

Play Off Final

Forest Green Rovers, lost only 3 games all season and it gets better, Hayes have never beaten them in their history of 4 games! The last game was at Church Road and we collected a draw, can Hayes define the odds.........

Yes Yes Yes after just 5 minutes, Greene scores for Hayes to take them into the lead, can they hold onto to this....Well of course they can, Forest had their chances to get back in it but we had plenty too and possession overruled as we celebrate with the champers a delightful victory and promotion to the National! What a great day for the fans and the board and the club overall! Finally promotion!!

What a season! An unexpected push for promotion sees us go through the play offs into the National, I am over the moon with the win and cant quite believe it, the squad this season has probably been the best I have had for Hayes and finally they are in the National where we can hopefully maintain some good results and slowly progress towards league football!

End Of Season Review

Well what a season it has been for Hayes, Promotion came out of the blue after defeating both Northampton and Forest Green Rovers. I am absolutely over the moon to finally be getting out of the Conference South and join Margate in the National. We both fought hard in the South and I expect the both of us to enjoy plenty more within this division, hopefully both go onto better things.

The fans and board of course are both delighted with the promotion, so unexpected for them and the board keep praising me and my commitment every month which is brilliant. Now we just have to work on our debt which stands at around half a million, the board have already kindly pumped some money back in.

Our top scorer this season is non other than Northern Ireland U21 international Greene, at 19 yrs old he has done a job I never expected and could only dream about, in total he scored 24 goals which makes his tally 28 in total for the club, a true legend in the making. Can he reach Cornwalls 67 goals club record!? If he keeps it up and we can hold onto him then I can see him breaking it with ease.

However, it was not enough for Fans Player of the Year, Molnar twice in a row won it gave the title to Corrigan who has put in some fantastic displays and has always been there when he was needed. Corri managed to find the net 6 times this season which aint a lot but his presence made up for it.

So overall a good season for Hayes and it will be interesting to see what the summer and the new season has in store for the Missioners!

Season 2017/2018

So here we are, Hayes make preperations for their campaign in the Conference National, a lot of big teams in this league all wanting to go up and non wanting to go down of course, competition is going to be tough and a predicted place of 18th means were gonna be cannon fodder for the likes of Margate who will be aiming to improve on their fantastic result last season.

Hayes Turn Pro!

You heard it here first, with the promotion to the National the board took what is an exceptional decision and turn the club from Semi Pro to Pro, with this change of course the club are slowly building their stature as the wage budget increases dramatically despite still being debt but non the less, a move to help ease this burden.

If the Pro move it was also decided that all staff on the current pay role would also get new full time contracts, all members of the backroom staff agreed with their new contract and help keep stability in the training dept. Players will be done on a individual basis depending on performance. Of course, so far, Greene has signed a new full time deal with a min release clause of 5.5million, it is my belief this lad will develop into something special for the club and hopefully deter some of them big clubs as Luton offered a pesky 150k for the lad.

The Summer

Although I tried to bring in many new faces to the club im afraid there is no news here, we have held onto all players who have taken us up and only released Martin Scott as his services are no longer required. No new signings were made by the club.

Our link with Arsenal has been terminated, good news though, we signed one with Crystal Palace and got three brilliant youngsters on loan, worthy of noting Searle and Nicholson, a keeper and striker who both should fit into the Hayes tactics and team well.

The National!

Our aim of course is to avoid relegation and secure another year of National football for the fans, it didnt start well, despite dominating at home to Aldershot, we lose 2-1,dont ask me how but a nice welcome to the league, our next game saw us win though so finally points on the board too!

We then lost two away games both 1-0, couldnt believe how unlucky we are, it feels like we are back in the South! Its terrible! But then light at the end of the tunnel, results are starting to go our way at Hayes as we settle both our loan signings in and our way of playing to suit this league, a win against top placed teams Kiddie and Macclesfield have done wonders for morale and I think anything can happen in this league as Hayes now sit about 7 points behind Kiddie in 6th place, if they can continue this kinda of play who knows, another play off place may be at hand for the Missioners............

Promotion in our very first season is unthinkable but my word, we are playing some absolute cracking football, Greene has developed in the next superstar for both club and country and Nicholson has shown what a great strike partner he is. Corrigan has matched his goal total from last season and already put 7 in the back of the net, can the unthinkable happen.......

I present you "Mission Possible" for the Missioners!

Season 2016/17 would be Basingstoke Towns 3rd season in the national after gaining promotion form one of the most tightly contested divisions in English football the Conference South.

After two seasons of mid table mediocrity regional manager Paul Phillips was starting to think maybe the Bas had come as far as they could go, with players such as Kyle McCoy and Steve McGlinchy starting to age many thought that the Basingstoke teams rising star had started to fade.

Once again with cash scarce manager Phillips had to search throughout the globe for not just affordable but talented footballers to bolster Basingstokes ranks.

Without spending a pound of his meager transfer kitty Phillips brought in five new faces to grace the hallowed turf of the Camrose.

Emir Serec a fully capped Slovinian midfielder who looks to be a great player already.

The versatile Martin Wharton who can play in central defense or a defensive midfield role, snapped up from Southampton after impressing on loan in the previous season.

Welsh U21 winger Chris Grant would give the Bas some much needed speed and flair down their left flank.

Andrew Dickinson free from Gravesend to act as cover for the central midfield.

Goal keeper David Chamberlain brought in for free and straight into a starting spot should bring solidity to a sometimes fragile Basingstoke Town defence.

These new faces mixed with the already established Basingstoke stars would Phillips hoped spark his side into action this season.

What followed was a sensational season for the mighty Bas as they wiped the floor with the division and ran away league champions 14 points clear of 2nd placed Margate.

As well as running away in the league the team also went all the way to the final of the FA Trophy final against Exeter only to loose on penalties after being reduced to 10 men when keeper David Chamberlain was controversially sent from the field.

Dissapointment over their cup loss was quickly forgotten by the fans with the realisation that they would be playing League 2 football the next season.

The same could not be said for Margate...........

Expected by board and media to battle bravely to protect their new League 2 status nationally recognised manager Paul Phillips went about adding to his squad.

With a transfer budget in the new division of just over 100k and finaces climbing up over the million pound mark, Phillips finally could stop shopping for free.

Seven players were signed for a cost that would eventually rise to two hundred and five thousand pounds but as a nationally recognised manager Phillips knew quality had to be added if the Bas were going to defy the critics and stay in League 2.

Staying in the league also had more meaning as fierce rivals Cambridge had been promoted to league 2 last season and maintained an unbeaten record against Basingstoke Town of 5 games.

Ben Dennis was the first to arrive, signed from coventry for 2k Dennis is a solid center back with good pace and will hopefully shore up the defence.

Midfielder Stanislav Simko a Slovakian midfielder with 6 international caps to his name signed from Ruzomberok for 26k.

Basingstoke fans this season are delighted to have Brazilians as Fabio who can play anywhere from right back to central midfield and goal keeper Silva from Flamengo joined for a combined total of 8k.

Both players are expected to start the season and much is expected.

New record signing Roman Prokop a U21 Cech international has rather large boots to fill but is not lacking in confidence after declaring he was at Basingstoke to teach us all how to really play football, manager Phillips will hopes he will get a good return on his 140k investment.

Once again an ex Southampton loanee was signed when Michael Wilson a driving force behind last seasons automatic promotion shunned Margate to sign full time with Basingstoke Town for 7k.

Last but not least was the signing of polish winger Michal Zajac from York, manager Phillips had been chasing Zajac for sometime before York signeed him and was delighted to finally get his man for 20k.

With a much more well balanced side at his disposal national manger Phillips was confident his side could not only avoid relegation but hold there own against the teams of League 2.

A narrow away loss to Bristol Rovers and a draw at home to Leyton Orient although only yeilding only 1 league point did wonders for the Bas side as they were far from out matched in both games.

Confidence was high and a 2-1 win away to Blackpool and a 1-0 win against barnet at home showed that the Bas could compete.

In a very tightly contested division where often only 3 points separated the top 10 Basingstoke stayed in touch and often ahead of more fancied teams such as Cambridge .

Still unable to find a win against their rivals Cambridge with two draws the Bas had done the impossible and had finished in the 6th play off spot 2 points below Cambridge in the league.

Basingstoke Town would play Cambridge in the semi finals to progress to the play off final.

With Cambridge having stretched their unbeaten record against the Bas to 7 games, Basingstoke went into the first semi at the Camrose undoutably underdogs.

In a brutal affair with two Basigstoke players stretchered from the field the Bas dug deep and while out played for long periods of the match, striker Steve McGlinchy clinced an unlikely first ever victory over Cambridge and their local manager Davie Orr.

The mighty Bas would now carry a valuable one goal lead into the second leg.

Abbey stadium was abuzz with excitement as the two teams kicked off and after 12 minutes it was the Basingstoke fans celebrating wildly as favorite kyle McCoy slotted home in the 12th minute.

20 minutes later there was hush as Cambridge equalised and were starting to look dominant.

Both sides went into the dressing room at halftime with the scores 1-1t more importantly 1-2 to the Bas on aggrigate.

With nervy play from Basingstoke after half time they settled and once again the Bas took the lead this time through Steve McGlinchy 1-3 over all to the Bas.

But as so often when these two sides have met Cambridge find a way back into the game and on 57 minutes they were level again and seeking the goal that would take the game to extra time and maybe penalties.

33 minutes of courageous defending and the mighty Bas and their nationally recognised manager Paul Phillips were through to the play off finals against Southend at the expense of Davie Orr and his Cambridge team.

Could Basingstoke gain back to back promotion and reach the dizzying heights of League 1?

Saturday 26th of May at Wembley in front of a packed crowd of 22975 fans nothing could separate Basingstoke and Southend with normal time and extra time ending in a 0-0 draw.

Penalties would be needed to find a winner between the two sides.

National manager Phillips brought his team in and gave them the order that they would be stepping up to the spot.

The Bas players then looked on as Tom Lancashire made no mistake in beating Silva from the penalty spot.

First up was spot kick specialist Ciaran Donnelly who calmly placed the ball and watched in despair as the Southend keeper saved his effort.

Bas 0 Southend 1

Allan Walker for Southend was next and had his shot saved by Silva, the Bas were back in the shootout.

New Cech striker Roman Prokop was next calmly smashing home the penalty and instantly repaying the faith of his manager.

Bas 1 Southend 1

Once again Silva saves and James Lindie trudges back to his Southend team mates.

Young winger Chris Grant placed the ball and like Prokop before him slotted home, sending the Bas ahead for the first time and the fans into voice.

Bas 2 Southend 1

Silva is confident now after saving the last two spot kicks and is dancing along his line trying to put Cillian Sheridan off, saved and Silva has pulled off three in a row.

If Joe Petty can score Basingstoke will gain promotion for the second season running.

Low into the left hand corner of the net and the bas players rush and mob Petty and Silva, somewhere near the bottom is Bas manager Paul Phillips.

Bas 3 Southend 1

Basingstoke Town have capped off a truely memorable season by gaining back to back promotion to league one, leaving behind the likes of Cambridge.

Singing and dancing on the streets of Basinstoke goes on long into the night but as the next day dawns manager Phillips red eyed and a little worse for ware is busy pouring over his transfer shortlists as he knows next season will be just as tough and that once again the Bas will be favorite for relegation.

league One football has come to the Camrose, there is a feeling of confidence around the team as pre season approaches.

With 100k to spend in his transfer kitty manager Phillips has already targeted where he thinks the Bas can improve and will be striving to build a squad capable of staying in league one and even chasing promotion again.

After taking over half way through the season with the team sat in 8th place it was a case of wait it out to the end of the season to see what i needed. I signed Adam lockwood a centre back,at 34 still a good signing for a north side and craig fagan, also 34 and still a good player even if he has lost his pace.

The end of season soon came and out went most of the team, after all i come mid table and knew i needed new blood to mount a promotion push.

Mission Possible!

What a season, what a season the Hayes fans were singing......The Tea Boy joins the Tea Lady! icon_biggrin.gif

Well Hayes fans have been treated to an awesome season in the Conference National and the only down fall is, its a short stay aswell! With the attendance at Church Road having trebled compared to the season in the South, the next season its expected to treble again as Hayes have done it! Back to Back Promotion both via the Play Offs!

The Mission Possible has been done and with the unthinkable happening, there were doubts if Gold would stay to see things through at Hayes but he put pen to paper and committed 3 more years to help Hayes clear their debt and build the club further on their recent success!

It has been a tough season in the National but the squad showed their togetherness and finished in a more than deserved third place in the league to enter the play offs. All teams within the play offs were beatable and we showed that during the league campaign where we even beat them and also other top teams including Macclesfield, Bury and many more, it was a big step but but League Two will definately be even harder for us.

Play Off Semi Final

We travel to Chester to face our biggest day in the history of this club to see if we could do anything in terms of making the dream happen and that it did, a tightly contested match ended up with us the visitors going away with pride and a victory, only 1 nil but thats good enough to take back home. Nicholson, on loan from Palace, scored the winning goal midway through the first half.

The home leg was a little boring in terms of goals compared to our away win and things ended up scoreless meaning we go through to the final! A record attendance and full crowd of 6477 turned up to watch the team play themselves into the Final and the impossible dream of playing League Football!

Play Off Final

In the Britannia Stadium more than ten thousend showed up to watch Hayes take on Lincoln for the Football League dream, the first half was over and Hayes were making the dream come alive, two up through an own goal after just 8 minutes and a belter from right winger Lee Fox who had replaced O'Leary on the wing. Although Lincoln scored it was never enough and ended with Hayes winning 2-1 in the Final and breaking open the champers! What a day, what a season, what a miracle! In just 1 season Hayes get promotion and leap frog Margate, no one thought this could have happend, lets hope there are many more suprises in store for Hayes in the future!

Greene once again topped the scoring charts for Hayes by scoring 18 this season adding to his 24 from last season, he is slowly creaping up on Cornwalls record, as said last season, if we can hold onto him then he can break the club record and put himself into Hayes history!

Hazley got himself player of the year voted of course by the fans, 12 assists this season and performances that rocked once more he finally has joined a club that have got him out of the National after spending a considerable spell with Gravesend.

Once again, what a season for the missioners and once more next season promotion is not on the cards but who knows what can happen! Football is a funny old game.....

League Two - A New Beginning

Its been a tough summer for the Hayes lads as its been very difficult to bring in any re-enforcements into the squad, its finding the right players that will fit in, hopefully not too many signings have to be made to bolster the squad but better quality personal is going to be needed to succeed at this level, its going to be tough with the likes of Watford and Leeds in this league competing for promotion!

Tommy Spur, Mikel Leigertwood, Ian Quinn and Jamie Clark join the Hayes squad.

Mikel is joining purely on experience at all levels of football, he still has a season in him and will be used on the occassions when we really need that man to guide the young squad through the tough times.

Tommy is an excellent centre back who has aswell got bags of experience, especially in this league and will hopefully maintain that solidness we have enjoyed at the back.

Ian and Jamie are both young players who mold in well with the squad, Jamie a GK and Ian a left winger who I see replacing Hazley in a season or so.

Some people have said Gold has had his mind on other things over the summer months and was not seen too much on the training ground, although rumours went round that he had not signed a new contract all was revealed that negotiations had gone well and Gold would continue the stability for the club further.

Its been a tricky start with injuries not helping, an opening day loss to Cambridge started things off, not very good! but we lost on the opening day last season.....so i wont get too upset! On the otherside, Cambridge have been long enough in this league and the last to have build up a very good squad! But we then even lost to Wrexham at home, this was certainly going to be tougher than last season, we normally had been solid at home and this was sad to see!

But away to the Southend we managed to plot our first point on the graph! A 1-1 draw to finally start the ball rolling into the right direction. We were then unlucky again in defeat to Barnet, losing one nothing. Its going to be tough!

Can things turn around! Well the League Cup draw was announced and we face non other than our ex parent club Fulham, can the championship side put more misery on Hayes?

League Cup

What a game! When Hero's are wanted and legends want to be made then miracles happen it was McGinchley who had just signed days before who made the opener! Fulham got level on in the second half to take it to extra time but a new folk hero named Greene popped up to knock Fulham out of the League Cup and setup a tie against non other than Everton!

We then continued this great win in the league by beating top of the league Grimsby 3-2 in another thrilling encounter......but Gold was not around to see some of this........although the fans were happy to see the side get a win in League Football!

Sky Sports reports an unbelievable appointment to the new manager of Northern Ireland!

The N.I. Football Association would like to welcome aboard current Hayes manager Steve Gold to take them onto the next level and represent Northern Ireland on the world stage.

The NI FA have asked Gold to uphold the countries reputation in the upcoming games.

This answers the questions where Gold has spent so much time over the last few months, he was in touch with Northern Ireland to take over the squad! A suprise for everyone at this appointment, who knows where it could lead this nation, maybe a European Championship or World Cup, it will be interesting to see how Gold gets on.......

In other exciting news for Northern Ireland fans, newly appointed manager Steve Gold has also appointed a new U21 manager to lead the future stars of Northern Ireland, it is none other than..........

Davie Orr, the current Cambridge Manager will take charge of the U21 squad with immediate effect, could this be a dream pairing for the management of Northern Ireland! Well we will certainly find out soon as both managers start their international career!

Welcome at the Welling Journal

The season starts without Straka. This was my key player. He had some records on his name. The question was: Have we enough quality to do the same without straka. I thought that we need some very good trainers. So we putt everything on the end of the league.

In the beginning we almost got no points. But around the half it is going. Peter Spink is going to be a big one. He is a lott beter now with my new trainers. He scored a lott of goals. I also got a new striker. He calls Stafford Palmer. He played for England -21 some matches.

When the beginning is so bad the end is almost fantastic. We ended on the fourth place in Conference South.

That means play offs. But in the half final we lost with penalties icon_frown.gif So no promotion but if my trainers do they job and we can hold this selection there must be a good season once. We are going to do no transfers because there is nog money. We are staying around 300k or 400k in the red.

Everyone buy a SeasonCard for Welling United because this gonna be the Welling Season icon_wink.gif

This was the Welling Journal. Thanks

Celtic.PNG

After eleven seasons in charge Stevenage manager Tim Prescott finally left the club after getting them up from the conference to the premiership and into a uefa cup final but he has left to take on a new challenge in scotland.

At the start it looked as if he wouldnt be able to cope with the presssure of managing a top team as at stevenage there was no pressure because the team were always the underdogs, after the first few games celtic sat near the foot of the table.

But after a slight tactical change the team just clicked and looked like a great side and went on a run of 21 games unbeaten which is now a scottish premier league record and that push them into 1st place and whitin 3 points of the title with 3 games to go.

Celtic could clinch the title if they would there next game and it just had to be an away match atgainst 3rd place rangers which would decide it the final score was 2-1 celtic and in his first season prescott had brought the title back to celtic park. But he couldnt add any other silverware to his first season as 2 goals in the last 10 minutes in the scottish cup final denied them the double. But overall it was a good first season as we also reached the league cup and uefa cup semis and things are looking up once again for celtic.

St.Albans Rollercoaster Ride Plummets!!

Well, what can I say, the woking dream is over, punted mid-season cos the chairman thought that me looking for a better club was an insult to Woking, maybe he was right, but the cack I smeared all over his Jags windows and the death threats I make to his wife somehow make me feel like I was right!!

So i went job hunting, with all the hype and my stats all quite high and with the fact my win ratio is quite high You would have thought getting a job would have been easy.........

Months went but and to be honest standing in line at the DSS to get my Giro every week was really starting to annoy me, mainly the amount of Junkies trying to steal my Fiat Panda!!!

Then after another week or so I got a call from the St.Albans chairman offering me a chance to try and push them up the league and into the National, Well it was either that or that "nude modelling" Job which was a bit sus asking if I was allergic to anything???

So St.Albans it was, although the modelling job came close. And here I am, started my first season with them on a squad of 4 players!! But with some nice buys and some savvy I got them into the playoffs only to lose as I do everytime.

This season is different we started the league with er No GKS!!! none i had a 16 year old kid in goals!! So not a great start as I return from holiday to see my staff all walked out and no keepers and the team 6 games in and stuck in 19th!

Still a few buys later and a shift of tactics and were in 13th, so here goes for a Playoff place and a loss in teh playoff semis!!

Upward and outward!!

Well After last season struggle im very happy with the position we now sit in. I think last season boiled down to players becoming to laid back with long contracts at the club. Taking positions for granted and just happy to pick up money and not wear the margate shirt with pride. With us finishing 2nd the season before and having the dreaded Orr Playoff's, which ended in defeat. I also think the team was tired and feeling sorry for themselves. This season we plodded along with out really setting the national alight and with the strikers not so much in form im happy with 6th position and 1st place still in sight.

With the players curently having a weeks bonding/break in Benidorm i have sat down with all coaches , and have worked out a plan to get this club into league football. With the group of players here i feel we can achieve our goal of league football , hard work on training ground is where we need to be making tracks! i have approached the chairman with the asking of a new trainign complex and have said to him with this crop of players i feel no one will need to be signed next season if we reached league football.

With 17 league games left to play for and margate fans waiting to see the best of the strikers, KNOTT feels that once his team click and start to play like they can they will steam roll there way to 1st.

He also would like to make a demand for more margate fans to come to Hartsdown park and support the team in this close season run in with ' Come on the Youths of today in Margate! Stop burning out Cars and Robbing Old Ladies , If your goin to steal STEAL Margate shirts from yout local sports shops and Get yourself down here!

lets not finish 5th again

After failing last season in the play offs, it was once again back to the drawing board for myself and my asst manager Steve Castle.

After a few long chats we decided to trim down the squad and offer Oli a deal as a coach, which now boosted our coaching staff up to 10.

After a busy summer period which saw no less than 18 players leave and £62k put into the transfer kitty.

Another 2 shipped out on loan and a further 14 transfer listed.

Leaving us with a slimmer but still flexible squad to work with.

Now in our 4th season in league 2 and to be honest am rather sick of finishing 5th and losing out in the play offs, we had to try something different.

With two thirds of the season gone, we're flying high sitting top of the pile with a 9point cushion on 4th place, but lets not forget 2016/17 season icon_frown.gif

Chris Downes the former Chelsea trainee has scored 13 so far in his 1st full season and on course to easily get over 20 goals.

Ange Lourougnon has helped with 9, and fans favorite Lewwis Spence has got 5 from midfield.

The rear guard has been outstanding with Gareth McDowell so far has kept 14 clean sheets, which in return saw him being called up to the full Northern Ireland squad, the back four, of which normally is Miller-DR, McNally-DL, Wright and Elphick-DC, have been solid, helping the team become the toughest team in the league to score against.

fingers cross we can hold our nerve and get into league one.

my other job

after being over looked by close friend and rival Steve Gold for the main squad, some would say getting the U21's job is a mighty swift kick to the balls, but looking back you could say yes I guess it was, but now I would have to disagree, its given me a new lease of life for management, given me back that hunger that I once had in the early days of my management career.

My appointment was made clear by Gold that my aim was to scout out the future for the Northern Ireland national team.

Basically to make his job damn easier.

Davie can we get the game up at 5pm on Sunday so I can get some work done on the team and also so the greenies can put in 4000000000 bids for players?

Nah so they can do some t&t and get the game going smoothly during the session.
