The Brief

Our third season as defending 1.Bundesliga champions and the board brief was to Finish in the Champions League Qualification Spots again this season in the league, building on our stunning season last season. In the DfB Pokal, the board want us to make the Semi Finals. Finally, the board want us to make the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League, despite actually winning the whole thing last season. Our budgets were £6.5m in the wages and £303m transfer budget.

The Results

571b33d340b8e27ed3e3851f4ac27e50.png

Not the best start for us this season. We battered Hertha, but lost, squeaked past Dortmund and ended up getting held by St. Pauli after battering them.

The Transfers

OUT

Well, it was a very big departure as we had such a logjam at the position. Selling a German international is a big thing though. It does free up some pathway to the first team however

The Eye Test

We've tried to go for the UEFA Champions League again, once again using the backups in the league. We're qualified for the Playoff Round and we're in with a good chance at retaining our Bundesliga crown as we were third. We're still in the DfB Pokal, but we've played poorly in every match so far. Fatih Sarigul once again tops our goalscoring charts so far, with 10 goals and, the Captain, Marius Tomas tops the assist charts with 7

The Transfers

OUT

Cleaning house! We got rid of a number of perfectly competent players, because they were throttling the youth behind them.

Well, this intake was rated GOOD by our HOYD. Yet another goalie to add to the logjam and there is a spine here. Let's look at the top 3 prospects.

a06656a9d2d482e189db1e6f98adcc4a.png

  • GK Arkadiusz Novak - Concentration: 14, Pace 13, Handling 14 - DNA: PASSED

This good at 15, there's no way I can keep him down for long. Think I'm gonna suffer soon, with even more logjam than usual.

374688195552e948df46ecc2078c01c7.png

  • D/WBR Liridon Pilana - Work Rate: 15, Pace 11, Technique 14 - DNA: PASSED

We've got a decent pipeline at right back now. Which is looking good for us.

6da6a948eace0b616696910f072bf445.png

  • M/AML Timo Holz - Work Rate: 16, Pace 15, Technique 13 - DNA: PASSED

Another decent ML coming into the fold, he could be excellent, but needs more seasoning.

How Local Is Your Intake?

This revived segment is to find out any players from Cottbus or a 10-mile surround and keep an eye on them to see if we can get a true homegrown superstar!

1. Simon Pohl

053c33d698e041792d8a5cc424f2aa7c.png

Simon is from Cottbus, but probably not going to make it to first team level

2. Aldrich Nsiala

245037de06f4f53edb25f0ca6a1e3538.png

Another Cottbus local, with probably the same chance of making the first team.

This is next season's lineup without moves. Let's look through to see when/where there are issues.

GK - We've got ourselves set for at least the next two seasons. Then it's who will make way for Novak
DR - Dreher's re-signing puts him second, ahead of Luszkiwicz who is reaching the point where we'll either sell, or relegate him to the II side
DCR - Brodwolf is king. Donaldson makes it into the rotation, but I could put him into the backup role easily
DCL - We're sticking with the first two, but Holdsworth makes it into the rotation with his fellow Englishman Donaldson
DL - Aydin has the star rating, but Egberts is still my #1, with Aydin as backup, Karbstein will come back into the third slot, with hopefully some youth coming into play.
DMCR - Cakir is still first choice, but he's 30 years old and Morina is coming up on rails. Zorn is de-facto third choice, but there is hopefully some talent coming up
DMCL - Mohr is still first choice, despite being 35. Grgic is the backup, but not not long term as Kroos is the natural successor.
ML - The Bagman always delivers and Borg is a very decent backup. Krause is a clear third choice.
AMR - The Carpathian Messi is the best player in the league in my opinion. Gashi is a good young backup and Peters is the third choice
AMC - Hoxha is insane, why on Earth dd Schalke not want him?  Mehmeti hasnt proved himself 100%, so it's a catfight between him and Jentszch.
ST - Sarigul is the clear #1 and it's whoever is wanted more by other clubs in second, as we're getting a logjam

The Eyetest
We dropped off this season, finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga behind a resurgent FC Bayern Munich. Striker Fatih Sarigul led the way with 20 goals, with our lead assister being Dejvi Hoxha on 15 . We also nailed the DfB Pokal, with a 2-0 Final win over 1.Bundesliga relegated side 1. FC Köln, after drawing 0-0. We also retained the DfL-Supercup for the third season in a row, beating RB Leipzig 3-0. We were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Juventus. Stats-wise, we finished 2nd on Goals Scored and 2nd on Goals Conceded as Bayern and I were the cream of the crop.

The Misc
Dejvi Hoxha won the German Player's Player of the Year Award, Tim Brodwolf  was second and Maciej Janowski finished third, completing another clean sweep
Stipe Ivanko won the 2.Bundesliga Top Goalscorer of the Season, on loan at Furth.
I won German Manager of the Year
Uwe Karbstein finished third in the U-19 Player of the Season Award
Soren Borg and Samuel Kroos finshed second and third in the U-17 Player of the Season Award

So, we had some decent attendences at the pre-World Cup training camps. Sadly, the only cut was Oleg Bagaev from the German squad.

So, eventually, we had 10  players representing their countries at the 2048 UEFA European Championships in Belgium & the Netherlands

59f4da60a8ba25f0598bf28ac814965f.png

How did they get on? Let's find out!

Albania - Out, Second Round

Dejvi Hoxha's journey with Albania to the Second Round, started out with a good 2-2 draw with Germany, as he scored the equaliser. He also completed 90 mins as his team were taken apart by Croatia, losing 2-5. They then made it through the Group Stage with a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic with Hoxha playing every minute of the Group Stage. Hoxha then played a good game against Belgium  as they lost 0-1.

Croatia - Out, Second Round

Stipe Ivanjko's meteroic rise saw him make the final 26 at the Euros. And his debut came in the 67th minute of the opening 2-1 win over the Czech Republic. However, he didn't take the field against Albania or in the final group stage 0-1 loss against Germany. He then made a cameo appearance in the 0-1 loss to Portugal which put them out in the Second Round

Germany - Out, Second Round

Another poor tournament for the home nation. Tim Brodwolf was subbed in the 50th minute of the 2-2 draw with Albania, while Vincenzo Incardona didn't make it on the pitch. In the 5-0 win over Czech Republic, the reverse happened as Incardona was subbed in the 57th minute after netting a 38th minute penalty, while Brodwolf didn't make it on the pitch. The final group stage match saw both players on the bench to start, with Brodwolf coming on in the 70th minute of the 1-0 win over Croatia. Brodwolf was again subbed on in the 80th minute in the 0-2 Second Round defeat to Norway, whilst Incardona didn't make it onto the pitch in the end.

Poland - Out, Second Round

Our biggest contingent at this Euros was with Poland, as goalie Maciej Janowski and defenders Mateusz Łuszkiewicz & Adrian Musiolilk were on duty, as Poland took a hammering in the opening match, 0-3 against Italy, with all three players being on the pitch in the end, with Musolilk coming on in the 87th minute, with the other two being on the pitch from the beginning. In the second match, Poland thumped a below-par Scotland 3-0, with the ever-present Janowski in goal and Łuszkiewicz subbed in the 87th minute. Their final group match saw them lose 0-1 to France with just Janowski in goal for the 90 mins. The win put them into the Second Round where they faced Spain. And all three players were on the pitch as they lost in extra time, 0-1, with Musolilk missing a 100th minute penalty.

Romania - Out, Group Stage

Marius Tomas' Romania flamed out in the Group Stage this tournament, with Tomas tearing his hamstring in the opening match defeat to England. Further defeats to Spain and Denmark saw them crash out.

Turkey - Out, Quarter Final

Okay Cakir and Fatih Sarigul'Turkey started the tournament off badly, losing 0-1 to hosts Belgium, with Cakir playing all 90 mins and Sarigul subbed in the 74th minute. Sarigul was subbed on in the 76th minute in the 4-0 win over Sweden in the second game, with Cakir again playing all 90 mins. Both players played all 90 mins in the final group game, which was a 4-1 win over Cyprus. Both players also popped up with a goal in this match, with Sarigul getting POTM too. Okay Cakir played all 90 minutes in the Second Round 1-0 win over the Netherlands with Sarigul not coming off the bench. Finally, Turkey's run came to an end in the Quarter Final, with France dismantling them 1-3. Both Cakir and Sarigul started the game, but were subbed in the 54th and 60th minutes respectively.

Welcome to Loan Watch.

Our feeder club is SpVgg Greuther Fürth, gearing up for a second season in the 2.Bundesliga. This will allow me to be able to send my best prospects off for meaningful football for a season.

In our sixth season in this venture, we sent out AMRC/ST Stipe Ivanjko, DC/DM/MC Adrian Musiolilk, DRC/MC Jack DonaldsonD/WBL Uwe Karbstein, DLC/DM Matt Holdsworth and M/AMRC Alex Jentzch. We also loaned out Gosslar, Galatas and Krause as overage players. The club ended up finishing 11th in 2.Bundeslia last season, guaranteeing them a spot in the league next season.

685c93fa63745066afffd686f1e086ce.png

  • Alex Jentzsch - An average season for the attacking midfielder, as he played 1,928 minutes of first team football, scoring 2 goals in 33 appearances and assisting twice. An Avg Rating of 6.81 does bode well, but he has competition.
  • Adrian Musiolilk - Playing mainly as a central defender, Musiolilk racked up 2,970 minutes of first team football for the club, scoring four times and assisting once. His Avg Rating of 6.77 is also a decent marker of a spell there.
  • Jack Donaldson - The defencer appeared for 2,953 minutes this season, scoring twice and assisting twice for an Avg Rating of 7.03, which lead the loanees
  • Uwe Karbstein - A decent loan spell of 2,377 minutes this season for the young left back. He scored and assisted once, however his Avg Rating of 6.80 was enough to get a look in the offseason.
  • Matt Holdsworth - An acceptable loan spell for the young defender and his 1,616 minutes of first team football, assisting 1 times in 23 appearances for an Avg Rating of 6.83, which was average.
  • Stipe Ivanjko - The striker had a phenominal first season, as he played 2,928 mins this season, scoring 16 times and assisting 2 times in 33 games. With his Avg Rating of 6.95, It's a very good season for him

The Eye Test

Pretty much a repeat of last season, as we're in second place behind FC Bayern Munich. Fatih Sarigul is leading the club with 19 goals so far and we're into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and latter stages of the DfB Pokal so we're currently having a decent season. Tomas is getting more and more injured though, which can only be a bad thing going forward.

DL - Egberts is still my #1, with Holdsworth displacing Aydin as backup, Karbstein will come back into the third slot
DMCR - Morina is now first choice, with Mehmeti as backup. Zorn is de-facto third choice, but there is space to talent to rise
DMCL - Cakir moves to first choice DM, with Kroos developing behind him. Boateng is a very distant third choice
ML - The Bagman always delivers and Borg is a very decent backup. Tommi Ressig reappears as third choice.
AMR - The Carpathian Messi is the best player in the league in my opinion. Justin Distelhorst has moved into backup and we're a bit stuffed on third choice
AMC - Hoxha is clear first choice, Gashi moves into the middle as a backup and Jentszch sits in third choice.
ST - Sarigul, Muric and Busch. Same as it ever was

It doesn't look the best intake, as shown by the AVERAGE rating. Still, lets look at the top 3 prospects.

2c139a43539ee2faad8ffaf86456c6d2.png

  • AMRL/ST Devonte Ward - Technique 10, Pace 13, Work Rate 5 - DNA: FAILED

Love this guy for a prospect, but his work rate is appalling. Hopefully, his Determination will bolster that.

cf86e81e493df043608e18f30d4099c2.png

  • AMLC Daniel Bittroff - Technique 16, Pace 10, Work Rate 16 - DNA: PASSED

This is a prospect that passes the DNA test and I think could blossom into maybe an AMC/AMR prospect, if he gets his Dribbling up

513e68bc7028d952f781e5d0edc07952.png

  • M/AMC/ST Burak Yucel - Technique 15, Pace 9, Work Rate 9 - DNA: FAILED

An extremely skilled AMC, but he needs a lot more rounding to get into the first team

How Local Is Your Intake?

1. Çağrı Çalik

2. David Unversucht

e27820fb9b45bf859c84941d4298604f.png

He's not likely to make the first team, but I'm happy to be wrong about this

3. Michael Schneider

3f9b34002bb71d6e827e3cad433ea14a.png

A possible candidate to play in the Segundo Volante role.

4. Robert Aliyu

Another full back which we need depth in.

The Eyetest
Our worst season for a number of years, finishing 3rd in the Bundesliga behind FC Bayern Munich again and a from-nowhere Hamburger SV. Striker Fatih Sarigul led the way with 25 goals, with our lead assister being Dejvi Hoxha again, on 10 . We lost the DfB Pokal, with a 0-1 Final loss against bitter 1.Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin SC in an extremely poor matchWe retained the DfL-Supercup for the fourth season in a row, beating FC Bayern Munich 5-0. We were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the Semi Final, losing 5-2 on aggregate to Arsenal. Stats-wise, we finished 2nd on Goals Scored and 2nd on Goals Conceded as Bayern and I were the cream of the crop again

It's time for the UEFA Euro U-21 Tournament 2049, and for this, we had 8 attendees.

Well, this is, once again, an endorsement of what we are doing as a club with our youth players. How did they get on? Let's find out

Austria U21 - Out, Group Stage

Antonio Gros, a toiler in our Cottbus II side, was called up after just three caps for the U-21 side, however he played just the last 7 minutes of the entire tournament for Austria, having been an un-used sub in the 0-0 draw with Italy U-21's and the 2-0 win over Croatia U-21. He finally saw the pitch in the 83rd minute of the 0-5 loss against Republic of Ireland U-21's, sending them out at the Group Stage

England U21 - Out, Quarter-Final

Matt Holdsworth & Jack Donaldson, were our representatives for England at the tournament. Holdsworth was subbed off in the 73rd minute of the 2-0 win over Scotland U-21's and then subbed in the 60th minute with a minor injury in the 6-2 win over Germany U-21's. Holdsworth was subbed yet again in the 84th minute of the 3-0 win over Spain U-21's, with Donaldson making his first appearance from the bench on the 69th minute. Nice. Both players were on the pitch for the full 90 minutes as England lost 0-1 to the Netherlands U-21 in the Quarter Final

Germany U21 - Out, Quarter-Final

Thom Maurer, Samuel Kroos, Soren Borg & Lefteris Karakitsos were our German representatives at 2049 Euro U-21. A good start as Maurer and Karakitsos played all 90 mins of the 1-0 win over Spain U-21's, with Karakitsos scoring the winner. All four players made it onto the pitch for the 2-6 kerbstomping by England U-21's. Borg and Kroos making their bow from the bench, with Karakitsos and Maurer playing all 90 mins. They made up for it with a 5-2 win over Scotland U-21, with all four players playing 90 mins, Karakitsos scored the fifth and Borg was named POTM! Sadly, they were knocked out of the Quarter Finals on penalties after a 0-0 draw with France U-21. All four played some part, with Karakitsos missing a penalty in the shootout.

The Netherlands U21 - Out, Semi-Final

Wim Egberts, our starting left back, was ever-present in the Netherlands' run to the Semi Final. They started with a 2-0 win over Belgium U-21's, with Wim scoring a goal in the 3-1 win over Poland U-21 and in the final match, losing heavily 0-3 to France U-21. They knocked out England U-21's, 1-0, in the Quarter Finals and then 2-4 in extra time to France U-21

Welcome to Loan Watch.

Our feeder club is SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 2.Bundesliga. This will allow me to be able to send my best prospects off for meaningful football for a season.

This season, we sent out D/DM/MC Samuel Kroos, DL/DM/MC Slavko Stanojevic, M/AML Simon Steinhauer, D/DM/MC Marc Wohlert, ST Marco Gudde, and DM/AMC Salif Ble. The club avoid relegation from 2.Bundesliga by two points, finishing 15th

Marc Wohlert was the real workhorse of this season, racking up a monsterous 3,240 mins with Samuel Kroos getting the best Avg. Rating with 6.78. On the flip side, Slavko Stanojevic only appeared for 306 mins, mostly from the subs bench. Marco Gudde scored the most goals with 6, but had the worst Avg. Rating with a devilishly average of 6.66.
