Are we 100% sure the match stats are accurate?

Recommended Posts

The issues reported were:

Defensive teams being able to retain possession whilst not being closed down or challenged, thereby being well beaten by good teams but still showing over 50% possession

Beaten teams having a high ( 90%) pass rate success- possibly linked to the first item and their ability to pass the ball short between their defenders multiple times without losing possession

It is perhaps worth reporting that SI have said that the end result was not affected by these issues, just the reported game stats.

Thanks for explaining

Statistics are accurate. Behavior of players can be a bit wonky at the moment, particularly in some lopsided matches, due to imbalances in what they believe is acceptable risky play. An intimidated defensive line will pass it between themselves endlessly, looking for the right moment to ping the ball forward (a moment that may never come). In response, the forward line of the opposing team refuses to go all in on pressing, which would lose them their advantage in positioning for intercepts, and allow a pass into midfield to complete. So you get standoffs, which I've seen last nearly 10 minutes.

Although funnily enough. Todays IRL spurs v Norwich match. Check possession and shot stats. Not a million miles apart from this above…47929E06-FF97-4DC2-8D97-112AAA616CFC.thumb.png.4ff86ed346b3828464bf96e0e6b90e9e.png

59% possession with 10 shots. Id take that over 63% possession with 3 shots (with probably 90% pass completions) in FM any day.

Irrespective of the example provided, to answer the question the thread asks - no they aren't. And they haven't been for several iterations.

It's a shame because a headline feature this year leverages the data in the game (Data Hub) and it just doesn't make sense at times.

Fair comment. If it’s going to be a fundamental part of the game it must be accurate. Otherwise it’s a complete red herring.

It does affect end results in terms that defensive teams are too sterile in attack they create nothing. Also such tactics don't even play what they're supposed to. What should be defensive hoofball turns into tiki taka without end result of course. I've edited ai managers made them much more attacking and direct and it improved this issue quite a bit. But still on lower mentality than balanced any team will keep the ball and pass it around endlessly.
