Hello All

Looking for some advice

I am looking to get a new laptop as my old one died.

What I want is a future proof laptop to just play FM for the next 3/4 years maybe more. I don't play any other games, only general browsing and light work use.

I want to buy it exclusively off PC world as I use them for credit.

Budget wise I don't want to spend much over £600 as I don't think I need to. I could potentially go a little above

I'd like to play 3d matches flawlessly and run 15 leagues.

I've found this one which price wise is really favourable

My only worry is 8gb Ram and i5 are they good enough to run FM for the next few years with 3D match and running 15 leagues or so fast?

Yes, that'll do the job just fine.  And it does say the RAM is upgradeable, so you'll always be able to add another 8GB after you've purchased it.

I was thinking of getting a relatively cheap (£400ish) laptop for work and FM on-the-go. 2D match view so graphics aren't an issue. Seen these two;

https://www.box.co.uk/82KD008NUK-Lenovo-V15-G2-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-_3855619.html

https://www.box.co.uk/82KD0007UK-Lenovo-V15-G2_3614139.html

I had my eye on the first one with the R5 5500u then spotted the second, with a R7 5700u. First time I've seen this CPU at the kind of price so just wondered if there would be any noticeable difference between the two.

There will definitely be a difference.  The Ryzen 7 has more cores and threads, and benchmarks suggest slightly better performance per core as well.

Either one will be very good, especially for that kind of price, but if you can afford the extra for the Ryzen 7, I'd defintely suggest going for it.

I'd be wary of recommending it due to the low base clock speed of the CPU.

This one looks to be good value: https://www.staples.com/hp-15-dw3365st-15-6-laptop-intel-i5-8gb-memory-256gb-ssd-4z3b1ua-aba/product_24504671

I have been reading through your past posts and I have vastly underrated Ghz versus RAM.

I also learned through Steam I can play a FM save on one device to the other, which makes me open to getting a desktop to supplement my current laptop, which is  used for work and browsing, no heavy gaming until FM22.

Seems a desktop computer will be much cheaper, due to not paying for portability. And a quick google shows countless under $400 desktops with 3+ Ghz and minimum 8 RAM.

Would you see any redflag with something along these lines? https://www.staples.com/hp-elitedesk-800-g1-refurbished-desktop-computer-with-22-monitor-intel-i5-8gb-memory-2tb-hdd/product_24494189

This also seems good https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pentium-DVD-Writer-Windows-RENEWED/dp/B093MSXKR2

I'm fine with a refurb from a trusted seller I can return.

Hey 👋

Looking for a laptop for fm. I’m not willing to spend more than approx €300 as it is solely for fm. I know I probably won’t get anything good for that price but I have accepted that. I know nothing about laptops but I’ve found these below 👇. Any help? Also if it’s not worth me buying a laptop because my price is too low just say it.

GHz is not the be all and end all, and is only part of the equation.  But I won't recommend anything where the base clock speed is lower than SI suggest just to be on the safe side.

I'd also steer clear of those two as well - the first one doesn't specify which i5 CPU it has, but it does state it's only a 4th gen i5, so it's going to be pretty weak by modern standards.

This is a good option for the price: https://www.staples.com/hp-pavilion-tp01-2256-desktop-computer-intel-i5-12gb-memory-256gb-ssd-318g9aa-aba/product_24506593

Disregard the 1st and 3rd ones - I have an old laptop with a very similar CPU and it's very slow for FM and the 3rd one will be worse.

The second one also won't be brilliant, which you have alluded to, but it will definitely give a better performance than the other two and of the three is the one I'd recommend.  Not sure what other sites are around in your area but I'm not convinced you'll find a huge amount better for that kind of price.  Most of the stuff below €300 appears to be Celeron CPU's which I would avoid.

Any laptops for the price you would recommend? Sorry I just don’t have a clue about any of this stuff.

As I said, based on the stores I know (assuming you're in Ireland - Currys and Harvey Norman), the middle three of the ones you picked is actually the best I can find under €300.

Hi,

Would this laptop be good enough to run fm at a moderate speed? I’m not too worried about 3D graphics just as long as it doesn’t take 5 minutes to process each day. Cheers if you can help.

It's not one I'd recommend due to the low base clock speed.

For a similar price, this one is a better bet: https://www.box.co.uk/S413EA-AM844T-ASUS-VivoBook-14-Intel-Core-i3-8GB-RAM-2_3600104.html

If you can afford to go up to £400, this will give a significant increase in performance over the above: https://www.box.co.uk/82LN00DJUK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3746804.html

Hello!
I’ve been wanting to get back into FM but it’s been that long my laptop is totally redundant now. Due to my lack of knowledge I haven’t really got any suggestions so pretty open minded to makes/models and where to purchase from etc, this thread has been a valuable source of information though just my mind is blown with all the options. I thought if gave my requirements someone would be able to suggest any ideal machine:

Budget ideally £350 - £600, Multiple Leagues & 3D, Purely used for FM nothing else, that’s about it really.

Just one final question, the one linked below what does it not do compared to the one that you suggested in terms of having to sacrifice game wise? Then I can work out if I want to pay more or less if that makes sense.

The one I linked has a better CPU and a dedicated graphics card - so, it will be quicker to run the game and you'll definitely be able to max out the 3D graphics settings.

However, the only you've provided the link for still has a very capable CPU and the integrated graphics are decent and will manage medium settings at least for the 3D graphics, so if you'd prefer to spend less than that one is still an excellent choice, especially for that price.

Hi everyone! For Football manager (with some leagues and around 100k loaded players) and League of legends from time to time, would this one be enough: https://www.buyitdirect.ie/p/medion-crawler-e10-core-i5-10300h-8gb-512gb-ssd-15.6-inch-geforce-gtx-1650-windows-11-gaming-laptop-30033537

Or worth investing a little bit more for 16gb ram? I can buy 8gb of ram and add to that laptop.

RAM won't make a difference for this (in terms of amount of RAM in any case, the speed of the RAM may impact it a bit).

That will certainly run both games without issue.  I can't comment on how you'll find the speed, as per the OP, but it is a decent CPU in there and the graphics card will be enough to max out settings on both FM and LoL.

Hi, I could use some help and advice.

I have got

Asrock Ab350m board (it does not yet have bios update for Ryzen 5000 series)

Ryzen 3600

2x8 gb ram 2666mHz

couple of ssd-s

rtx2060

gigabyte 750W half modular supply

2k monitor

Would I gain anything getting ryzen 3800x for this board or getting a new board and ryzen 5600x or 5800x?

Would that speed up my football manager a bit or there is no point doing that upgrades just for FM?

For now I play with about 10-15 leagues on playable and about 110 000 players loaded in but would be nice to load even more.

I have seen the benchmarking thread but still not sure what to do.

I use my pc for media watching and standard stuff, and maybe a bit of Warzone now and then.

thanks

Hi all.

I'm looking get a new laptop (preferably 14") at some point that can run high graphics and a decent number of leagues. Don't use the laptop for any other gaming so it would be FM and browsing.

Could possibly go up to £700 for it. Any recommendations? I spend way too much time looking but would like some advice as I'm not really up on specs apart from the obvious (SSD and RAM).

Thanks!

You should see some uplift in performance, both generally and in FM as the Ryzen 7 3800X has more cores/threads and benchmarks suggest it has better performance per core as well.

If you can afford a new board and one of the newer Ryzen chips, then that will see more of an uplift on top of that.

There are no 14" gaming laptops I can find under £700.

https://www.box.co.uk/82KC000KUK-Lenovo-V14-G2_3614138.html Will offer a good performance with the integrated graphics being good for medium to high 3D graphics settings on FM.

I was thinking of selling my board and CPU and getting a new board and 5600x hopefully that makes some difference on FM

My 4-5 year old Asus laptop is on it's backside so I'm buying a new one. Budget is up to £1000, need it to do the following:

Play FM (obviously haha) - decent number of leagues, large database (100k+ players)
Cities Skylines with a few mods running
Bit of coding as part of reskilling myself work wise

Laptops I've found are:

https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/product.aspx?id=4H2B2EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB&p=hp-gaming-laptops (appears to be the same as the above HP but with Windows 11, not sure if there's a massive benefit to being on Windows 11 over 10 other than it's the most up to date OS)

Struggling to pick one out of those to be honest. I wouldn't have an Asus again, had quite a few issues with it. Two of the best laptops I've ever had have been an Acer and a HP so I'm swaying towards those over the MSI.

The last 3 are basically identical in spec, and the first one is extremely similar.  They're all excellent and there's hardly anything to choose between them.

The i7 in the first one scores marginally higher in the benchmark scores on https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?, but it really is marginal.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Just purchased. Not cheap, but I have seen people buying more expensive items. This HP has FM22 flying with a 50k database that was at a crawl with my previous laptop. I'm not certain how it would handle a massive 100k+ save, but I am guessing it would function fine. Really good computer for everyday needs.

Hope this can help someone with a middle ground option between some of the budget options and the more advanced gaming systems.

I've put this off for a few years but I'll finally replace my laptop in the next few months. Open to a laptop or an all-in-one PC.

My current laptop is a 17inch screen so I’d like the same again. It would be predominantly used for FM with a large database and a lot of leagues running.  Budget is around 1,000 GBP.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

I've put this off for a few years but I'll finally replace my laptop in the next few months. Open to a laptop or an all-in-one PC.

My current laptop is a 17inch screen so I’d like the same again. It would be predominantly used for FM with a large database and a lot of leagues running.  Budget is around 1,000 GBP.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

Hi,

I’m looking to get back into FM and need to buy a new laptop. My budget is pretty low and im Not looking for anything special, just one that I’ll be able to play FM on without it taking an age to advance through each day. Would the below one be suitable enough for it?

https://www.very.co.uk/hp-15s-fq2024na-laptop-156in-fhdnbspintel-pentium-goldnbsp4gb-ramnbsp128gb-ssd-microsoft-365-personalnbsp12-months-includednbsp--silver/1600593318.prd?cm_mmc=google-_-PLA+-+Generic-_-Ad+group-_-PRODUCT_GROUP_p65915705976_&utm_campaign=Generic_Electricals+-+Generic+-+SSC&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_term=PRODUCT_GROUP&campaigntype=shopping&gbraid=0AAAAAD2k1i1k6c2hhS4ybKZ_CJrqdMoVb&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxorlhpbg-QIVirTtCh3dcg8bEAQYBCABEgJG8vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#sku=sku23629303&gbraid=0AAAAAD2k1i1k6c2hhS4ybKZ_CJrqdMoVb

Ideally I don’t really want to pay more than the above one as I’m sure I’ll get an earful from the missus as it is lol.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a new laptop, predominantly for FM 23. I can stretch to 2.5k max.

I usually play with large db, 10 nations and 20 leagues and use of 2d/3d graphics varies.

I do like the MacBook but I also intend to play f1 Manager 22.

Any suggestions?

It does meet the minimum specs.  You'll need to turn graphics settings down fairly low and don't expect it to be blisteringly quick.

4GB RAM also really isn't ideal, so I'd just suggest to keep other programs closed when playing FM to make sure you don't run out of RAM during a game.

Not sure what the score is in terms of Macbook compatibility with F1 Manager 22.

So, assuming you're ok with a Windows machine, this is an excellent spec and you won't need to get anywhere near the top of your budget.

Hi guys,

Had to get a new laptop last month as old one broke but was on a small budget so didn't get the most high performance laptop but was wondering if my new one is good enough to play FM on.

I'm not too tech savvy but reading the opening post and the minimum requirements for what is needed my new one has CPU of 5 GHZ, it has integrated graphics but only has 6BG RAM.

If it's not good enough would my laptop be able to competently run any of the last few years versions as i'm happy to play them instead if necessary.

Thanks.

Hi all,

My PC has finally died so I'm in the market for a replacement. Budget is around £1,400 and currently looking at a custom build along the lines of: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-z690-pc/dB6!sErAuS/

I just had a few questions if you could help.

  • I'll mainly be using this for football manager, web browsing & working from home (nothing exciting). I've chosen a budget GTX 1650 in the build, would this be ok for the likes of Football Manager? (I was getting on ok with a GTX770 before lol). I'm not planning on playing much else on there as I would use my PS5, but the ability to upgrade GPU is there in the future if I change my mind I guess.
  • I've seen a few posts suggesting waiting until next month when AMD release their new chips. Is that likely to have much bearing on an Intel build?

Just looking for something that will hold up for a good while, my 4770k lasted a 8 years & I was still happy with it ha!

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks

Good afternoon,

Could i please have your opinion on the laptops below for running FM? These have been recomended by my companies IT guy for autocad use. he has said they are not necassarily the best but as i only use 2D DWG files of maximum 10mb it should work fairly well. I use my work laptop for FM also so wanted to know what you guys think. Playing with more leagues added is more imporatant than the graphic quality. i do not use the laptop for anything else apart from basic programmes such as excel, word etc.

i have a budget of £1000

You can try the demo and see.

Or, post the specs of your laptop here.

To get the specs, run dxdiag.exe (just put dxdiag in the search bar and the first option will be to run that program).  You'll then get a window which looks like this:

Click "save all information" at the bottom, and then save the dxdiag.txt file when prompted.

Once you've saved that, open the file and copy & paste the results here.

Yep, the GTX 1650 is more than good enough for max 3d graphics settings on FM.

Yep, they'll be fine.  I'd go for the first one as the CPU is a fair bit stronger on that one.

But, you can probably get better for the price, unless 32GB RAM is a necessity (I don't know a thing about Autocad, so I can't comment on that).
