If you can stretch to Ā£750, this is a good shout:Ā https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8971894?clickPR=plp:7:30

If you can't afford that, I'll have to have another look as pretty much all the ones worth considering are out of stock.

Yeah I'd rather not Lenovo, we use them in workand they're not reliable at all.

Would the all-in-one run extensive FM databases ok, do you think or not? I think I'm leaning towards an all-in-one, but if not viable then will get desktop.

The CPU is pretty good in fairness and should perform quite well.

We don't have any FM specific benchmarks on that specific CPU as far as I know, but it scores quite well on the all round benchmarking sites.

But my laptop won't run them. It's old and full of junk. I'm thinking of getting a new laptop to play as PC gaming is out if my price and I'll only play FM anyway. Just wondering how much I would need to spend on a decent laptop that keeps the game at a decent pace? (fm05-09) probably. If anybody could link me any decent laptops please doĀ

I think there's something missing at the start of your message.Ā

Some of the older FM's won't run on modern computers as they include DRM which doesn't agree with modern versions of Windows.Ā  I know for FM06 for example, you can only get it to run using methods which probably aren't allowed to be discussed on the forum.Ā

In terms of a laptop to run FM, it really depends on how much you can afford to spend and what exactly you're looking to do with the computer aside from FM.Ā

Yeh, you might run into compatibility issues but you can run as in compatibility mode

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-older-apps-or-programs-compatible-with-windows-10-783d6dd7-b439-bdb0-0490-54eea0f45938

Depends what you mean by 'how much would I need to spend' - that depends on you and your budget Ā£500 is a lot to some people and very little to others. Ā£1000 could be cheap for you and very expensive for someone else.

Ā

Bottom of the barrell pick that would work

https://www.box.co.uk/X413JA-EB478T-ASUS-VivoBook-14-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-5_3614569.html

Next up on the recommended list

https://www.box.co.uk/1L6E9EAABU-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM_2958256.html

Ā

But if you want to spend more than Ā£650... then let us know.

Hi.

I'm looking to get a load of new PCs at work. I was going to go for a Mac but it needs to be managed by the ICT team at work and they can't deal with Macs. I have no choice.

What I need really are 3 things:Ā speed, reliability and longevity.Ā

What I need it for: To run FM21 like a boss obviouslyĀ :lol:Ā But also to run the Adobe Suite: PhotoShop, Premier etc. It needs to be able to handle film editing. They will be desktop PCs, not laptops.

What I need advice on: To be be blunt, I want to make sure the people who are buying the kit aren't pulling the wool over my eyes. What's the spec I need to do the above? They've tried to mug me off before with 'Macs don't run the Adobe Suite' which was guff.Ā

Any help appreciated guys!

I buy in Lenovo v530s - the current models are hereĀ https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo/lenovo-v-series-tower-desktops/c/v-series-towers

Ā

which is why i came on here. I've taken one home and it needs a SFF graphics card just for FM use.

I dont want to spend more than Ā£50 on one, just for FM. Does any body have a recommendation?Ā

The only graphics card that you can buy brand new for under Ā£50 is the GT 710.Ā  And, you don't want to buy one of those.Ā  You're probably better off with the CPU's integrated graphics.

I'm not an expert on video editing, but based on what I've read up you want:

A powerful multi-core CPU

16-32GB RAM

Large SSD storage

A reasonable graphics card (although the things I've read prioritise this lower than the RAM and CPU).

Ā

So, it really depends what you're looking to spend.

Something like this should do the job, but it depends on whether you want to spend this much:Ā https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-z490-pc/YSes8P6jXG/

Honestly, to be on the safe side you are probably better off asking on more specialist forums when it comes to video editing requirements - but, generally speaking if a PC can handle video editing well it's probably going to handle FM like a dream anyway.Ā  VIdeo editing is a pretty demanding task.

Graphics cards are very expensive at the moment, if you can even find stock of what you're looking for.

its worse as i need a low profile one. the PC only has as 630 currently.

(I bought dozens of them for work a couple of years ago and they are worth more now 2nd hand)

its basically a 730 or a very budget 1030

Unfortunately, it's non-negotiable. I know a guy who is from a website that's willing to lower his asking price if I pay under the table, so, it's only those two that I mentioned.

Close

Definitely 32gb RAM if not 64gb depending on what video editing is required.

Fast internal SSD for app installationĀ  and also a separate internal drive for scratch disks.

There's a list of compatible cards here

And a list to compare to

Cool.

Yeah. Agreed. And off topic, I'm not even going to tell you about my most recent experience with Dell. Suffice to say, if you have a Dell, NEVER send it to them to be repaired.Ā

Mine came back in a worse state than it was when I sent it. Water damaged and dead. They were even nice enough to send me an invoice for the damage they caused.

Anyway. I digress.

Oh. Dell computers are excellent, no doubt, (my only issue was nothing really, just dead pixels. In retrospect, I should've just endured) but my advice is to get it fixed on site.

I don't think I'd pay more than Ā£1,000 for it.Ā  The CPU is decent, but not as good as the other one.Ā  And the graphics card ranks slightly above the 1050Ti, so the graphics card is weaker as well.

It's probably priced as high as it is because it's the newest gen i7, and because it's Dell it's likely to have a very good build quality.Ā  But, specs wise it's still behind the other one.

The Dell is a bit pricier - but not forgetting that most lapotps built for portability are a bit more expensive - theĀ 1165G7Ā Ā is an energy efficient processor and relies on cooling technology to sustain the turbo boost.Ā

As it's a thin and light laptop that's why it's a bit pricier.Ā

Hi folks,

Ā

This is in the Prime Day deals today. Does it look like something that could be a budget machine to play FM on? I'm not much fo a 3D engine guy (only for goal replays) so instead want something that can just handle the game at speed for a budget.

It will be fine, good CPU.

I'm guessing it's largely down to the large touchscreen, but that is rather expensive for the spec in terms of CPU etc.Ā  But if you do need a touchscreen, that'll be absolutely fine for FM.

For the price etc is this a better option than the previous laptop posted on Prime Day?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-Blade-15-2020-Lighting/dp/B08LW575X9/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=gaming+laptops&psr=PDAY&qid=1624348956&s=prime-day&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&sr=1-3

I play about 35 leagues, with most players loaded in the DB. Also play in 3D. The issue I have with my current laptop is that after 3 seasons or so the processing time becomes unbelievably slow, like a minute per continue just to go forward a few hours in game.

Not sure how to check the spec of my current laptop to show you what I currently have and to check if these Prime day deal laptops are much better

I'd still go with the other one - the CPUs score quite closely.Ā  Some benchmarks show the i7 as stronger, and some show the Ryzen as the stronger - so there's clearly not much in it.
