Alot of people are running FM 09 on their advent 4211

However on opening the program nothing happens... it says that FM.exe is running under processes in windows task manager, so when trying to open FM again it says its "already running"..... graphics driver shouldnt be an issue should it?

I think it is something to do with screen resolutioon

any idea would be much appreciated

Have you tried running it in windowed mode?

Try that and report on what happens.

I dont get it to be honest, why isnt a patch been sorted out as yet - millions of pound in revenue made and people still hae to have "workarounds" and playing it in windowed mode. Crazy the people have to put up with sub standard software............again.....same ol nightmare from last year and the year before.

If you actually bother to read before launching into a rant, the patch is due out soon and is in testing phase at the moment.

I have just read through the first 8 pages of this and replied to users with the same problem. Please can someone direct me to the answer if it is posted later on and resolved?

I have installed fine on my XP PC, activated a number of times over the phone, but keep being reserved the Soft Anchor activator when I load the game pushing me through the process again.

Everything is in Upper case on my activation keys and key code. But I haven't installed the patch as I have no net connect on my PC, is that required?

Please let me know if there is a work around. Really want to start playing.

Thanks.

ive tried the fixv2 zip file and that didnt wrk.

im onto my 2nd copy of the game and im still getting the same problem.

ive spent all weekend tryin to solve the problem and cant seem to find any solution.

i cant delete the fm certificates as ive had to install it thru steam due to my cd drive not reading the disc when i put it into the drive.

my friend suggested that it may not be workin as i had the demo before buying the game.

quite frankly im bemused as to why you've made the installation of the game so confusing and frustrating.

You may want to try the fixv3 file located at http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=65715.

I can't play the game due to an XML parsing error

If you have a shortcut on your desktop you can do the following:

  • Right-click on the FM shortcut.
  • Choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
  • In the "Target" field, add the --reset_preferences command line option after "fm.exe", so it should look like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\fm.exe" --reset_preferences
  • Press OK and then try to run the game as normal, using the shortcut.

I HAVE TRIED THIS SOLUTION TO THE XML PARSING ERROR, BUT IT STILL EXISTS. HAVE ALSO TRIED UNINSTALLING THE GAME & RE-INSTALLING SEVERAL TIME, TO NO AVAIL. WOULD MUCH APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE, AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE 2 PLAY THE GAME FOR A WHIILE NOW, AND FEELS LIKE THE BIGGEST WASTE OF £30 EVER.

THANX

And, no, the patch isn't a requirement for activation.

Did you perform a complete uninstall that left ZERO trace of any FM 09 related data?

If not, details on how can be found in an earlier post I made at http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2275377&postcount=3664.

However, I'd first recommend you delete your cache, try running the game, before committing to a re-install.

- Make sure FM is not running.

- On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009 Demo\settings\ (using Windows Explorer, Application Data is hidden by default but you should get to it by typing the path)

- On Windows Vista: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009 Demo\settings\ (using Windows Explorer, AppData is hidden but you should get to it by typing the path)

- On Mac OS X: /Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009 Demo/ (In the Finder Sidebar: Click your username, then go to Library -> Preferences -> etc..)

- Delete all sub-folders in this (the 'Settings' folder). Do not delete the entire "Football Manager 2009" folder in "Application Data"

- Now try to run the game.

Have you installed the v9.1.0 patch? (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=60961)

Is the new game you're attempting to start using a large database?

Try playing the game in 'Windowed' mode.

You can do so via Options -> Preferences -> Display & Sound -> Display Mode (drop menu).

Did you perform a complete un-install? http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2275377&postcount=3664 tells you how.

Also, take a look at http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2294874&postcount=3771.

To be honest, I can't be of much help when it comes to activation issues such as yours.

Have you followed the steps listed at http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=65579?

Hi. Hopefully someone is able to help me. After looking at the 39(!) pages in this thread, i couldn't find a solution.

I bought the game for PC and played it for a couple of weeks. No problem whatsoever.

I then tried to play the game on my Macbook Pro.

The first couple of times, it all went well. I installed the patch and played.

Now all the sudden i can't open the game anymore.

The FM icon bounces on the dock and then return the following error:

Is there a fix for xml parsing errors ruining saved games? I'm sorry but I've looked at the first page and I'm not looking through the other 38 simply because SI have released a useless game.

Taken from http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=74469:

Other XML Errors

"not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of last_saved_game.xml"

The game says it cannot be loaded

This can sometimes be resolved it by defragmenting the hard drive.

Open and run Disk Defragmenter by doing the following:

Windows XP

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “My Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2009 installation.

4: Go to “Tools”

5: Click “Defragment Now”

6: Click “Anylise”

7: Click “Report” – Check to see if the saved game that is not loading is listed as having missing fragments.

If it does have missing fragments then move the save to an external source (USB Memory Key, External Hard Drive) and try loading the game fro there. If the game works from the external source then running a full Defrag on the Drive should allow you to load it again. If not then your game is probably corrupted.

Windows Vista

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2009 installation.

4: Select “Preferences”

5: Select “Tools”

6: Select “Check Disk”

7: Select “Start”

If the Save Game was showing any missing fragments then try to load the game again as Check Disk would have attempted to fix the problem. If that does not work follow the steps from Windows XP. Copy the file to an external source and attempt to run it from there. If successful defrag the Hard Disk and then try again.

1. Are there any custom graphics you've added to your game?

2. Have you tried performing a re-install of the game? This would require making a complete removal of ALL your FM 09 related files.

1: No custom graphics.

2: Tried the official uninstaller and appzapper, both without luck. The offical uninstaller had some problems removing some files, so i did a manual delete on those.

FM09is.... you need to provide more detail than that. Can you check to see if you have the minimum/recommended requirements for 09 and if it is crashing then maybe looking for crash dump reports will help you to fix your problem.

computer is brand new everything is the proper spec for FM09..had no trouble loading the game its just when i start up a new game i go about a week into it and i will click on some randon item such as club info and it freezes nd the last few games i get to game day nd freezes.why have they changed the game so much:confused:

Hi Marc,

I'm wondering if you can help I'm having trouble with the game. I have successfully installed the game but it will not run and shows the following message:-

fm.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience. It then offers to send an error report to Microsoft.

In an attempt to resolve this issue I accessed your troubleshooting page and could not locate a problem like this I did however access a similarly named problem and upgraded a Microsoft application which also proved to be unsuccessful. I also tried to contact Si direct and have not heard anything back.

I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it but this unsuccessful and the same message appeared.

I do not know what else to do and would be grateful for any help.

Thanks,

Arthur

Sorry Roozy45 for all the trouble you've been experiencing.

Could you go to http://deactivation.fm2009.softanchorinsight.com/ and let me know what information you're returned when you put in your product key and press the button?

Additionally, have you tried installing FM 09 on another machine activating it with the same code?

Thanks for the response Bardi - I followed the link you provided and this is the message I got.

Below is a list of computers that are actively licensed to play Football Manager 2009. Using the check boxes below, select the computers you wish to deactivate. By deactivating a computer you will free up a license seat for Football Manager 2009. Freeing a license seat allows you to use your license key on a different/additional computer. However, the computers you deactivate will no longer be able to play Football Manager 2009.

Activated on 12/4/2008 7:58:30 PM

Activated on 12/6/2008 2:37:16 PM

Now I received the game on the 6th so can't understand why it would have ben done earlier. What do I do now - the fact that the date is in American format would that mean it represents a different time to when I actually activiated. I dont want to not be able to play the game on my laptop
