Great update!

Norte Chico win the league again, despite somewhat disappointing form in the closing stage. But Luxembergo bails for Los Incas; woulda thought he'd want to stick around to lead us through the Libertadores next season. Oh well, at least he didn't leave for a rival club.

A creditable performance overall in the Copa Sudamerica considering our lack of players, but a shame about the embarrassing away leg against Bolivar.

Robinho doing well, but Silva looked a bit jaded in the second half of the season. Parreira will have to sign us a few decent players if we're going to repeat last seasons heroics in the league.

Peru looking impressive on the world stage, surely a sign of things to come. Pizzaro has been absolutely immense, scoring in every competitive game except the loss against Columbia. Luck he hasn't been able to repeat that form for Lima in the league!

Good job with the rankings Corinthiano, will show some interesting statistics after a few seasons.

I reckon if you just use ~6 letter abbreviations for the team names next time the tables will all line up perfectly. icon_wink.gif

2009 Pre-Season Report

I have deiced to do a report on transfers as there has been a bit more activity this season!

Transfers

Atletico Arequipa

No Transfers

CDT

The only movement at Estadio Oso Paddington was out with Alberto rodriguez joining Westfields FC for £8.5 Million

Transfer History

Ciudad

The team with the highest ivestment, spending £44 Million on 4 players, 3 of them being from other Superliga teams.

Matias Delgado - a very decent AMC that was playing his football at Besiktas, he will be competing with Elano for the playmaker role.

Claudio Pizarro - Perus biggest star has somewhat surprisingly swapped Libertadores football and the good life in the capital to go to small town Ciudad. He believes that with the investment made at the club, it will be a contender for the title.

Jose Paolo Guerrero - who better to parnter Perus best striker than Perus second best striker! Guerrero is another one convinced of Ciudads success.

Juan Cominges- Coming along with Guerrero from World Starz, this striker can also play effectively on the wings.

Ciudads attack was nothing special last season, but this year we can expect them to score bags of goals as they have made 4 good offensive signings.

Transfer History

Cusco Athletico

After being relegated Cusco Athletico have decided to beef up the squad a bit in a bid to return straight to the Superliga.

Andres Mendoza - The striker was playing his football in Romania and will now try to fire his new club to Second Division glory.

Luis Ramirez - A decent midfielder who came from Alianza Lima, the tactic there was probably to weaken their competitors by signing their best players.

Walter Vilchez - Has surprisingly left Puno to make a step down the leagu ladder.

Weslley Brasilia - One of the best players in the Second Division, his experience in the second tier will help fire the team up again.

The investment made by Cusco Athletico wasnt very big, but they have signed some handy players and given the squad a bt more depth.

Transfer History

Lima

It was expected that Lima would be strenghthening a lot to be more competitive in the Libertadores, especially afer letting Claudio Pizarro move up north, but dissappointingly there were no signings from the upper class Lima side.

Transfer History

Los Incas

Los Incas lost two big players to Lima sides, Erick Delgado left for World Starz, while Jefferson Farfan left for Westfields FC in a £17 Million deal. The club brought in one player from Europe to compensate for the losses.

Jadson - Was playing his football in Ukraine and returns to South America to be El Club de Oro's playmaker.

This has been considered not enough to replace the two outgoing players and many are predicting Los Incas to struggle this season.

Transfer History

LW FC

No transfers in for The Warriors, only Juan Manuel Vargas moving south to the Puno Panthers.

Transfer History

Mayobamba C.F.

The other relegated side also made some very good investments to try and bounce back straight away.

Federico Insua - The Argentinan playmake come from almighty America (MEX) and will provide some much needed experience to The Mayobamba Pit.

Jhoel Herrera - This full-back leaves obscurity in Poland behind to try and make his name in Peru again.

Junior Ross - The biggest signing for Mayobamba, another player to leave Puno for Second Division football.

Miguel Mostto - Probabaly only brought in to bring some experience, the ex-Barnsleay player is nothing too special.

Some intersting signings by Mayobamaba and I think Parreira has been very clever by bringing in some fighter to the club.

Transfer History

Norte Chico

No transfers.

Puno

After seeing to of their players leave for the recently relegated Andes pair, the manager made one big name signing.

Juan Manuel Vargas - A regular in the National side, he will bring good service in the left hand side.

Vargas was a very good replacement for Vilchez, although there should have been a replacement for Junior Ross as well.

Transfer History

Westfields FC

The Lima club has made som =e two big signings to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle again.

Alberto Rodriguez - A very good, defender, he will be able to help Westfields leaky defence.

Jefferson Farfan - This versatile attacking player will add plenty of flair to the side.

Westfields FC have to be one of the winners of the Transfer Window as the two signings they have made are class players.

Transfer History

World Starz

Losing two of their best attacking players was going to need some good transfer moves, unfortunately the only one made was defensive.

Erick Delgado - A top class goalkeeper that will keep the hip tight at The Starz Palace

You could say World Starz have gone for boring, Lionel Messi will have a hard time trying to score all the goals for The Kings.

Roberto Jimenez is one of the players you chose right at the start, he originally was a Univeristario striker. He scored 14 goals for you last season so thats prbably why he is in your favourite personell. I will post a scrrenie of him as a reminder icon_wink.gif

I have forgotten to add one last bit of info before I start the half-season update. Like in the first game most sides have gotten feeder clubs and some have gone on tour:

M'bamba none Argentina

N Chico Once Caldas (Colombia) Denmark

Puno Tigre (Argentina)

West FC Universitario (Peru) U.S.A.

W Starz Ipatinga (Brazil)

Interesting to see that the Lima clubs have gotten the former big three in Peru as their Feeder clubs, will be interestig to see if this works in their favour. Will start the half-season update now so expect it up in another coupe of hours.

2009 Mid-Season Update

League Standings

Ciudads investment really paid off as the club had been sitting at the top of the table, with second place World Starz 5 points behind. From there on its all quite close as there is only 7 points separating 3rd placed Atletico Arequipa and 7th placed LW FC. CDT could still join the middle pack if their form improves in the Closing Stage, but Puno already looks to be miles off and worries about relegationa are isntalled at the club. This beacuse promoted side Jose Galvez are doing more than just taking beatings and are only 2 points off Puno, still off a relegation place. This beacuse Los Incas and Deportivo Municipal are having absolutely rubbish seasons, Pato has been injured for Los Incas and without him, El Club de Oro have been looking very weak.

League Table

Past Positions - 1st and 2nd

Past Positions - 3rd and 4th

Past Positions - 5th and 6th

Past Positions - 7th and 8th

Past Positions - 9th and 11th

Note - I will not be posting past positions of the non-Superliga clubs, but if people wish to see them, let me know!

Team Stats

Player Stats

Roberto Palacio is having another very good season and is outshining the big star Carlos Tevez once more. New signings Jose Paolo Guerero and Matias Delgado have been making the difference for Ciudad, and good old Johan Fano is still playing good football.

Libertadores Watch

Preliminary Round

Lima were up against the Bolivians Blooming, not a very strong side but after Norte Chicos happenings in La Paz last season they were approacing this tie carefully. The first leg at Stadio de Lima had a hectic start with the score being 1-1 after 10 minutes. The game was looking like it was going to be a draw which would have been an awful result for Lima, but then the star of Kaka shone through and he bagged a double before providing the assist for Pedro Ascoy to score the 4th. The second leg was a very boring affair which had a penalty converted by Kaka in the 82nd minute as the only highlight. Lima didnt cae though, they were through to the Libertadores Group Stages and become the only Superliga club to have featured in both editions.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Group Stages

Group B - Norte Chico

After last season relatively good run in the Sudamericana, Norte Chico were feeling quietly confident about the Group Stages even though they got drawn in a very difficult group. In fact, the group was too difficult for the northeners as they only managed draws agains Santos away and Santos Laguna at home, losing all remaining matches.

Group Table

Group D - Atletico Arequipa

Atletico Arequipa were also handed a very tough group, with Botafogo and Gremio from Brazil + Mexican Apertura champions Atlante. Los Blancos played two outstanding matches against Atlante with Maxi Rodriguez's winner at home being voted seond best goal of the competition. However Atletico Arequipa only managed 1 point in the 4 matches gainst the Brazilians, nonetheless it was a respectbale 3rd place finish, only 3 points of second place.

Group Table

Group E - Lima

Lima got the easiest group of the Superliga sides, although reigning champions River were part of that. However El Nacional and Medellin were no match for the capital boys and they remained unbeaten against the Ecuadorians and Colombians. The only defeat in the group was 1-0 away against River, and even then Lima were assured a first place finish before the game unless they had gotten a sound beating from River. Lima become the first Superliga side to reach the Last 16 of the Libertadores, and as Group Winners!!

Group Table

Last 16

The Last 16 pairings are decided on the performances in the Group Phase, meaning the best 1st placed team will play the worst 2nd place team and so on. As Lima were the 7th best 1st place team and River the 2nd best 2nd placed, the clubs were paired up again. This time River made their tradition count by trouncing Lima 4-0 in Buenos Aires. There wasnt a lot of hope left for Lima in the second leg, but after going up 2-0 in the first half, they started believing again. Unfortunately Riber pegged one back with Falcao and Limas dream was over.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Botafogo won their first international title by beating Independiente in the final.

Knock-Out Tree

Awards and Statistics

The only Superliga players to have stood out in this years edition of the Libertadores were from the Lima side. Kaka was the difference for Lima and made the Libertadores dream team. Special mention also has to go to Pedro Ascoy, who scored the goals for Lima in the absence of Claudio Pizarro.

Transfers and Squads

Atletico Arequipa

After one and a half years of transfer inactivity Atletico Arequipa have finally decided to invest some money and make the most interesting signings so far. But not only investments have been made, cult striker Johan Fano has surprisingly left the club to join The Warriors in Lima.

Ismael Blanco - The first replacement up front come from Greek side AEK and looks like quite a good player.

Jair Baylon - The biggest transfer in the Superliga so far, costing Los Blancos a whopping £34 Million. Jair Baylon is seen as a long term replacent for Johan Fano and it is undeniable that the boy has potential.

Souleymane Diamoutene - Becomes the first ever African player to play in Peru and will provide good strangth to the back line

Manasseh Ishiaku - Another striker, and the seond African to transfer to Peruvian football.

Atletico Arequipa have been very clever in the transfer window, cashing in on the ageing Johan Fano and buying 3 very good replacements.

Lima

Squad

Los Incas

Los Incas needed to make some investments after their awful first half of the season, but they didnt come up with much...

Roberto Guizasola - The right back joins from Cienciano and is an unspectacular if slghtly more experienced player.

Transfer History

Squad

LW FC

LW FC wanted to get out of mid-table obscurity and therefore made some heavier investments in the winter transfer window.

Johan Fano - A bit of a gamble due to his advancing years, it remains to be seen whether Fano can be the same goalgetter as at Arequipa.

Manuel Corrales - A replacement for Vargas who was sold in the summer, a good left-back not an ideal replacement though.

Not the best transfers that could have been made, but at least the LW FC Board showed some will to improve the club.

Transfer History

Squad

Mayobamba C.F.

Mayobamaba still trying to get straight back up made another good signing.

Paolo de Haza - A very good Peruvian midfielder who was playing his football in Mexico. A very impressive signing for the Second Division side.

Transfer History

(I am not posting the squad as they havent played any games, but if you want to see it anyway let me know)

Norte Chico

The holders made a dissappointing start to the season and brought a player back from Europe to try and improve their situation.

Felipe - Coming from Portuguese giants FC Porto, this is a very good signing and the player could improve furthermore.

Note - I have not posted the most valuable regen as I think just posting the best home-grown player at the end of the season is enough, but will happily bring this back if people request it.

Managerial Changes

We ve got a few changes again, it getting all very South American now!

CDT got rid of Manuel Pellegrini after their bad start to the season and replaced him with Daniel Passarella of Atletico Arequipa, who have promoted their Coach to the hot-seat. Ernesto Vera used to be Assistant Manager at Melgar before joining the coaching staff at the Estadio Misti.

After Los Incas very bad start to the season, Luxemburgo was given the boot and Alfio Basile from LW FC was his replacement. The Warriors thought outside the box for a replacement anf have brought Vicor Esparrago from Cadiz in Spain. The Ururguayan has coached the big Nacional side in Ururguay and also some top clubs in Spain, such as Valencia, Sevilla and Zaragoza.

Norte Chcio were also not happy with their manager, Parreira performing awfully in the Libertadores and failing to defend the title, so Dunga joined from Lima. Pellegrini was the replacement at Stadio de Lima, and there have been questions about his appointment as he didnt really deliver at CDT.

Good to see Mayobamba building for next season. icon14.gif It's a good sign that there's some stability too - no players out and no managemnet changes.

No need for a squad screen shot but could you check the status of my players? (happiness level, transfer status, etc). Cheers Corinthiano, KUTGW icon14.gif

JoseRR, Dunga left one mothe after the Libertadores run, all the managerial changes happened around June, quite strange.

DodgeeD, I have started holidaying again so cant give you a completely accurate check-up, but from I rememebr with the big player, Breno had a good morale while Sergio Mota was Okay, there was interest in Kerwing Peixoto from Mexican side T.Reynosa. I will post the squad next time icon14.gif

True, true, he did win South American Manager of the Year last season!! Maybe the lure of the holders was too much for him to resist! And Pellegrini isnt too bad a replacement, he had de cent first season at CDT, he just started the second season pretty badly.

Think you fleeced us tbh. Not sure how that kind of spending can be condoned. Vera's job in danger.

Third place, and a decent Libertadores run. Now don't let Rodriguez get away!

(Strange that more players don't want to go to Peru, btw. You'd think they'd be flocking to a league with 19 in reputation.)

I think that we havent seen to many foreigner come over as the clubs can only field 3 foreign players in a match, making it pointless to have loads of them. It takes 3 years for a player to gain Peruvian nationality, so after the 3rd seasonwe could see some more foreign talent moving to Peru as the big stars get a second nationality.

Bit of a disappointing season so far, not really surprised considering our lack of ambition in the transfer market. Losing the league is one thing but losing it to Cuidad.... :thud:

At least we managed to lure Dunga to the club again, hopefully he'll turn things around in the closing stage and secure us a Copa Sudamerica spot.

2009 End of Season Update

League Standings

There was actually a bit of a title race until about 10 games left into the season, then Ciudad pulled away from World Starz and guaranteed the title. The final table shows that Westfields FC were only 2 points of their Capital rivals, but World Starz' second place was never under threat. It was only Westfields form in the last quarter of the year that actually put them in a Libertadores place, leaving Norte Chico with the consolation of a Sudamericana place. Atletico Arequipa didnt have a very strong closing Stage and were fighting against LW FC for the last continental place, which they won. At the bottom Los Incas sorted themselves out and managed to avoid relegation and leave Puno behind as well. These two clubs were 20 points from 7th and 8th placed Lima and CDT so a lot of improvement is needed. Both original sides Jose Galvez and Deportivo Municipal just didnt have the strength to battle on and ended up going straight back down.

Awards and Statistics

Rodrigo Palacio was on top form once again and only Pato scored more goals than him. Ciudads attacking force proved an important factor in Ciudad winning the title and you can see that in the team and player stats. Apart from being the top scorers in the league, they had 4 out of the best 5 players in the assists department and Guerrero and Pizarro scored over 20 goals in the season.

1st Preliminary Round

CDT

Los Osos were against Cucuta in their first ever South American match and were clearly nervous in the 1st leg at the Estadio Osso Paddington. Cucuta got an importantn away goal halfway through the second half and CDT equalized 10 minutes later. A 1-1 draw at home wasnt a good result and CDT would need to come up with a good performace in cucuta to get through. The game was tight until the 87th minute when Sergio Flores put CDT ahead and with a foot and a half in the next round. However Cucuta got an equalizer in added time and so the game went to penalties. Barreto and Del Barrio missed for CDT and bitterly knocked them out at the first hurdle.

2nd Leg

World Starz

World Starz faced a more traditional team in Millonarios, but put in an impressive performance at the El Campin to beat the Colombians 1-0 away, thanks to a goal from the teenage promise Reimond Manco. Roberto Jimenez fired an early goal in the second leg to take the steam out of the Colombians and World Starz were comfortably into the Second Preliminary Round.

Second Preliminary Round

World Starz faced CDT's conquerors Cucuta and were determined to revenge Peruvian football, but faced a difficult game in Colombia and Cucuta went ahead. Richarlyson managed to equalize the game and World Starz had the advantage for the second leg. That advantage went away early in the second half of the second leg, but World Starz managed to equalize soon after. So just as against CDT, Cucuta where going into penalties against a Superliga side, but this time the Peruvians came out on top.

2nd Preliminary Round Overview

First Round

So now World Starz were up against Chilean giants Colo Colo and the first leg at the Monumental started hectically, with 3 goals in the first 20 minutes, World Starz coming out on the worse end as the score was 2-1. Juat after half time Colo Colo scored another one to give them a firm hold of the tie. World Starz still believed though and after a goalf in the 25th had their hopes high before Colo Colo equalized just before half time. A goal halfway through the second half still gave The Kings hope but it wasnt enough as Peru didnt get further than the First Round again.

World Starz were the best side in terms of derbies this year again. They managed positive results against every other team overall. Lima did well against Westfields FC and LW FC even though their league performance was considerably poorer this season.

Mountain Rivalry

With two Andes team relegated last season there was no derby games to report on and only the confirmation that Los Incas are the kings of the mountains icon_biggrin.gif

Northern Rivalry

The small town club in the north have had their revenge against the big boys by winning the title. In the derbies they have also largely outclassed CDT, whilst playing on an even stage against Norte Chico. The two big town teams were very evenly matched, although CDT are currently th regional losers due to their poor league position in this years league.

Unfortunately this wasnt a good year for Peru and they hardly won any matches and failed to score in a lot of games as well. This meant that qualification for the World Cup was not achieved. Managerial Changes

Oh yeah, we ve had a couple again...

Ernesto Vera didnt take the prsssure well and lasted a whole 3 months before being sacked with Luxmeburgo replacing him. Passarella at CDT, Dunga at Norte Chico and Basile at Los Incas were also all sacked after only 3 moths.

CDT made a very good signing when appointing Cuca as thei new manager having guided Botafogo to lat years Brazilian title and this years Libertadores, he was surely an on form manager. Two ex-River managers replaced the other two clubs, with Americo Gallego going to Norte Chico and Diego Simeone. Both managers made a good impact at their respective clubs and managed to improve their league positions.

After the season had ended there were two other managerial casualties which resulted in a swap. Lima sacked Pellegrini and hired Felipa, while Puno sacked Felipao and hired Pellegrini.

How did the teams in the Copa Sudamericana do? Or has that not started yet?

In South America the continental competitons only last 6 months and run at alternate times. The Libertadores from January to June and the Sudamericana from August to December. Its all a bit silly really and IRL most clubs (at least the Brazilian ones) dont really care about the Sudamericana. But we sure do! icon_smile.gif

I am just about to write the pre-season update and have noticed that there has been some sales of youngsters to other peruvian clubs and a few players have gone on loan to feeder clubs. Do you want to see screenies of the loan players and sold youngster, just one of them or none?

Decent season for Los Chicos. 4th in the league not bad considering our poor performance in the opening stage. but another new manager?! Hopefully chairman Timote Escobar will give him a bit more time to settle as we really need some consistency.

Gallego's first task will be to sign us some new players, Silva getting too old now and although the signing of Felipe is encouraging we still need to strengthen for next season.

Sorry, my question wasnt very clear, I am going to post all clubs transfer history screens if they have been active in the transfer market as it gives a nice overview.

What I mean is, should I show profile screenies of young players sold off to non Superliga clubs (i.e. Alianza Lima, Bolognesi) and of youngsters loaned out to feeder clubs?

2010 Pre-Season Update

Last season saw two new Superliga sides compete with the "traditional" sides in the Second Division. Mayobamba C.F. adapted really well to the less glamorous life, made some clever signigns and went straight bak up. Cusco Athletico on the other hand lost their main player Daniel Alves to Inter Milan and didnt have luck on their side as they will have to battle it out in the second tier this year again. The other side promoted are not one of the former big 3, but Bolognesi who finished 2nd the year before the Superliga came into effect.

Transfers

Atletico Arequipa

No players coming in for Los Blancos yet again with the only activity being the sale of youngs Ruben Valbuena to Cienciano

Transfer History

On anothe note, Martin Palermo has been surprisingly transfer listed, the player is determined to prove his worth to the team though and wants to stay.

CDT

After a dissappointing season in 2009 CDT decided to invest a good amount of money on 3 players:

Alexander Sanchez - The midfielder come from Cusco Athletico and can also play on the wing.

Miguel Villalta - Comes from capital club Lima in order to replace the ageing Santiago Salazar, released by the club.

Paolo de la Haza - only moved to Mayobamba C.F. 6 months ago, but his impact has been so big that the more established CDT moved for him.

The big trasfer out was Manuel Barreto who moved to Westfields FC, the attraction of Libertadores football was too tempting for him.

Transfer History

Ciudad

No players in, only Guilermo Salas being released as his age caught up with him and he hast beeen able to keep up with the standard of the Superliga.

Transfer History

Cusco Athletico

The missed promotion has taking more negative effects on the Cusco side as another 3 major players have left for Superliga sides. The big promise Damian Ismodes has moved to World Starz, while midfielders Luis Ramirez and Alexander Sanchez have moved to Westfields FC and CDT respectively.

Transfer History

Lima

Lima ave yet again not signed any players and have come under criticism form the fans, mainly as another very good player has left the club. Central Defneder Miguel Villalta has moved up north and joined CDT.

Transfer History

Los Incas

In a bid to improve the teams performance after two years underperforming in the league, El Club de Oro have gone on a big shopping spree and signed the biggest amount of players in the Superliga.

Diego Novaretti - the strong Argentinian centre-back has joined fromArgentinian second division side Tigre.

Gianfranco Espinoza - <os Incas are clearly trying to improve defensively and signed a second centre back from Westfields FC

Henry Colan - the attacking midfielder/winger has come for a measly £80k from Alianza Atletico and many doubt he has the required quality to add strength to the Incas squad.

Junior Viza - another Peruvian coming back from Europe, Junior Viza will battle for the playmaker role against Jadson.

Miguel Cevasco - comes from the traditional side Universitario and is seen as a good capture.

Nicolas Navarro - The Argentinian Goalkeeper is seen as Diego Penny's long term replacement.

Pedro Aparicio - and another defensive player to join the Andes side...

Renzo Revoredo - comes to fill the gap Jefferson Farfan left behind.

A very busy transfer period for the Arena Machu Picchu side and it will be interesting to see if all the signings pay off.

Transfer History

LW FC

The Warriors have not been massively busy in the transfer window but made one good signing:

Jesus Alvarez - Signed from 2008 champions Norte Chico, a good signing that will add strength to the backline.

Transfer History

Mayobamba C.F.

Even after getting straight back up to the Superliga Mayobamaba C.F. had their side weakened by two sales. There was no signing to replace Paolo de Haza, but the sale of Junior Ross to Westfields FC was compensated.

Hernan Rengifo - signed from Mexican side Santos Laguna, he is considered a better player than the departing Junior Ross and a very good addtion to the Myaobamba squad.

Transfer History

Norte Chico

Even though Norte Chico werent able to retain their title, there was no panic at the Estadio de Aspero. Jesus Alvarez was sold off but there was no replacement signed, instead the investment was focused on another area.

Juan Pablo Garcia - the attacking midfielder transfered from mexican football. He is supposed to take over the playmaker role from Robinho so that the Brazilian can play further up the field and concentrate on getting more goals for the northeners.

Transfer History

Puno

Puno was another side who needed some investment to compensate for the two years of poor football. They raided Sporting Cristal and brought an Argentinian over from Cerro Porteno.

Emiliano Dudar - has plenty of continental football experience and will help to tutor the younger defneders at the club.

Juan Carlos Marino - a decent if unspectacular midfeilder who will add some options in midfield.

Roberto Coaguila - plays in the same position as Juan Carlos Marino, but is a better player.

Julio Garcia - same positions, same club signed from but the best out of the three former Sporting Cristal players.

Very unrational moves in the transfer market from the Puno management as all the signings are very similar and will probably be fighting for the same positions. First Team regular left back Mario Gomez has also been loaned out to second division side Melgar in another weird moved by the southeners.

Westfields FC

With Libertadores football looming, Westfields decided to make a couple of signings to be able to go far in South America.

Junior Ross - another player that didnt stay long in the Andes, Junior Ross will provide the firepower that Westfields need.

Luis Ramirez - a decent midfielder whol will add some options to the Westfields manager.

Mnauel Barreto - the winger/striker is a very good signing and him and Junior Ross could become a very dangerous partnership

Martin Tenemas - a very promising player that was finally picked up by one of the Superliga sides, the Peruvian international can play effectively at right-back and right-midfield.

The only downside was the sale of Espinoza to Los Incas, without a replacement for central defence, however these additions will be important as Westifelds FC will have to cope with a bigger game load.

Transfer History

World Starz

The other Libertadores side have invested in two big promises.

Damian Ismodes - the biggest promise for Peru next to Jair Baylon, the striker is a great investment by The Kings.

Neymar - the Brazilian 18 year-old was wanted by several top european clubs including Real Madrid, however it was the Peruvian side who managed to lure this great potential to their team.

Transfer History

Feeder Clubs and Tours

This year all Escobar sides managed to get a feeder club and a few of them went on tours again

Atletico Arequipa: Blooming (Bolivia) - no tours abroad

CDT: Oriente Petrolero (Bolivia) - no tours abroad

Ciudad: Cerro Porteno (Paraguai) - no tours abroad

Cusco Athletico: Bragantino (Brazil) - no tours abroad

Lima: Operario (MT) (Brazil) - no tours abroad

2009 Mid-Season Update

League Standings

Three sides have been battling for first place in the Opening Stage of the season. Los Incas were brief leaders, before CDT occuppied 1st place for a while, World Starz form in the last few games have seen them overtake the side from Trujillo, but they only hold a two point lead. Puno, lead by the amazing Aguero occupy the 4th place, followed by current holders Ciudad. LW FC who seem to always be in mid-table are in 7th, with Norte Chico ahead of them. Lima are paying the price for ther reluctance to invest in new blood and are a dissappointing 8th, but with an 8 point gap between them and the first relegation spot Westfields FC who invested quite a bit due to their Libertadores qualification have had an awful season so far and are only 3 points from safety. The two promoted sides are occpying the relegation slots, with Mayobamba C.F. still in touch with safety. Bolognesi just havent competed this season and with 4 points at the halfway stage, they are certainly heading for releagation

Player Stats

Sergio Aguero has been the best player by far in the league up until now. He has almost double the amount of man of the match performances than the next best player, leads the goal scoring and average rating charts. This comes from the fact that he has been playing as a striker opposed to as a playmaker this season, maing him much more effective. Without Aguero, Puno would not be in the position they are now.

Libertadores Watch

Preliminary Round

Westfields FC were handed a very tough draw against Mexican giants America (MEX). The first leg was played at the Allpay Park and Westfields were very unlucky in an extremely tight match. They were equal to their opponents but conceded a goal 5 minutes before half-time and one in the dying seconds of the match. This left the Lima side with a massive task at the Estadio Azteca, and they were not up to it. Conceding 4 goals in the first half was massively demotivating and the only positive of the whole two legs was that they drew the second half 1-1. Very unlucky for Peruvian football that Westfields got drawn to such a strong opponent.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Group Stages

Group A - World Starz

America (MEX) continued to prove the nightmare of Peruvian sides by beating World Starz twice in the group stages. However, against The Kings fared very well against their other opponents, doing a double over Uruguayan champions Danubio and beating Velez at home before snatching a draw in Buenos Aires. The 10 points meant second place and qualification to the next round.

Group Table

Group H - Ciudad

The side from Huanuco were handed a very tough draw in their first international experience. Independiente, record winners of the Libertadores, traditional side Internacional and Uruguayan giants Penarol were the opponents in what was considered one of the closest groups on paper. Ciudad qualified with ease thoug only dropping points away against Internacional and Penarol.

Group Table

Last 16

World Starz

The Kingz were handed a very tough draw against current holders Botafogo and didnt get off to the best start with Renan putting the Brazilians ahead after 8 minutes. After that, it was all World Starz and 20 minutes later Lionel Messi scored the equalizer. Even though The Kings continued to pile on the pressure, the score remained unchanged and Botafogo took a vital away goal back to Rio. Nerves got to the captial side and they started the game at the Engenhao awfully, conceding in the first half as well. It seemed like this year a Lima side was heading for elimination in the last 16 again until a penalty was given with 10 minutes to go. Lionel Messi converted it, and the game went to penalties. World Starz kept composed and stole the tie from Botafogo.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Ciudad

Ciudad got a relatively easier draw against Colombian champions Atletico Nacional. The midfield duo of Elano and Matias Delgado were on fire in the first half and put the Superliga champions 2-0 up in the first half of the away leg. Luis Perea got the Colombians back all alone before a penalty was given to Ciudad in the 84th minute. Elano easily converted it and it looked like Ciudad were going to take a win back to La Ciudad de Huanuco Estadio, but Fuentes scored anownl goal with virtually the last kick of the game. This put Ciudad in a very comfortable position for the second leg and they made it even more comfortable by going 2-0 up in the first half. Atletico Nacionals only response was too late and too little and Peru put two sides in the quarters.

Quarter-Finals

World Starz

Another tough draw for The Kings saw them face mighty River in the quarters. To eveyones surprise Reimond Manco fired two goals in the first half at The Starz Palace and it looked like it might be even a comfortable tie for the Peruvians. However Sebastina Breu pulled the Argentinians back and then equalized the game to change the whole picture of the tie. World Starz needed to win in Buenos Aires or hope for a high scoring draw. They had to go all out in attack but it was the complete opposite of what happened in a dull 0-0 draw, World Starz not having the experience to knock out one of the best sides in South America.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Ciudad

Ciudad got a much easier draw, against Barcelona (ECU). All confidence and favouritism diaappeared after the 11th minute, when Richard Mercado **** up the La Ciudad de Huanuco Estadio. The goal shocked the Ciudad side too and they played awfully, not even coming close to an equalizer. The away leg started with lots of pressure from Ciudad, but they didnt manage to break the Barcelona defence. The team stamina ran out in the second half and after another Richard Mercado goal, half way through the second half, the tie was over. A very dissappointing result as the Huanuco side was much stronger on paper.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

America (MEX) went on to win the title against Argentinians River Plate.

Managerial Changes plus New Peruvian Citizens

It has been a bit quieter on the sacking front with only two clubs changing managers. Felipao was sacked after the Opening Stage and replaced with Renato Gaucho, who won the Brazilian title and the Copa Sudamericana with Fluminense last year. It is hoped he will have the same effect as Cuca at CDT.

Luxemburgo was also sacked by Atletico Arequipa after an extremely poor Opening Stage and is now managing the Brazilian National side. Atletico Arequipa have gone for a Peruvian manager this time in Freddy Ternero, who won the Copa Sudamericana with Cienciano in 2003 and is considered one of the best Peruvian coaches of the last decades.

All major players that were on the initial Superliga squads have all spent enough time in Peru to gain a second nationality and are all considering citizenship. There are a few players who have already got it, here they are:

Kaka (Lima)

Lulinha (Los Incas)

Breno (Mayobamba C.F.)

Sergio Mota (Mayobamba C.F.)

Robinho (Norte Chico)

Humberto Suazo (Puno)

Thiago Neves (Westfields FC)

Richarlyson (World Starz)

This could mean a major influx of foreign players next summer, it will be interesting to see if this really happens or if the clubs continue to invest in their youth talents.
