Middlesbrough Press Conference

Middlesbrough have tonight completed their 5th signing of the day, after late night negotiations finally came to a head. Middlesbrough chairman, Rhys Cartwright, was locked in talks with Everton chairman, Hitman19ko, over the sale of the transfer listed Sylvain Distin. The experienced, French centre-back has arrived for a minimal fee, after Cartwright knocked Everton down on the asking price. Distin will play at the Riverside for 2 years on a contract on par with the rest of the squad of around 15-20k a week.

Cartwright added "Laurent Blanc gave me a list of positions he felt needed improving, and defence was a big part of that, so I am delighted I have been able to sign Sylvain as well as Kolarov, Ferreira and Rensing earlier in the day. It will improve the team no end, and signing a player like Michael Owen to play up front is unbelievable. A player of that calibre is unknown to Middlesbrough in recent years, we just hope he can stay fit."

He also said "We do now need to get rid of a few players though and are welcoming bids for Mido, Leroy Lita, Chris Killen & Marvin Emnes. We would also offload Gary O'Neil if the right bid came in as he is on a massive contract compared to the squad."

BREAKING NEWS

Just received word that West Ham have completed a swap with Chelsea for Soloman Kalou and Jeffery Bruma with Jordan Spence and 3mn pounds going the other way. The chairman said that given West Hams close shave with relegation last season it was imperative to bring in players who could make an immediate impact. while recognizing the fact that Spence was a great prospect for the future, hard decisions needed to be made to ensure the security of the club. Wages are still unclear but it is expected that Kalou will take a wage cut as he had been recently playing with the reserves at Chelsea and had no real future there.

United Question Liverpool

Manchester United Chairman Paulo1985 today spoke about the race for the Premiership title.

I: So how are your plans for the new season coming along?

Paulo1985: We have made the major moves in this window that we had planned. We had been in discussons with Sunderland for 6 months reguarding Dzeko and when the ownership of the club changed hands we moved very quickly to approuch the new owners with a solid offer. Having just been relegated they felt that they could not resist the deal and the player was more than happy to sign. Akinfeev was a player that i have been tracking for a year since i took over the club and one i know that Alex (ferguson) has been tracking for alot longer. We saw that he was available and again moved quickly to secure his signature. We have also brought to the club some younger players that will no doubt make there mark here at old trafford in the coming years.

I: Who do you see as your main challange this year for the premiership:

P: Obviously you look to the same few teams who have challenged in the last few years, The arsenals Chelsea's and even Man City.

I: I notice that you did not mention the current champions Liverpool in there?

P Well i think they will be there or there abouts this year but i am not sure that they are going to have what it takes to keep up this year. We have strengthened the squad to a point where i think that it is going to be difficult for them with there current crop of players and new signings to make an impact.

I: THey have so far made 3 signings this year bringing in Lodiero, Vermalean and Grafite what do you think of those purchases?

P: Average!

do you think it would be fair if i gave one of the promoted teams to giburrows and ollie chooses the last one when he comes back on. what do you guys think.

yeah, we want this thing to start the season with as many teams taken as possible so if Ollie isn't back to start the season then he can pick up whatevers left.

Manchester United Wrap up spending with 10 Million pound deal for CM

Manchester United chairman Paulo1985 has stated that Manchester United have finished spending for now and any deals now needed will be in the total control of Manager Alex Ferguson. The latest move by the club is beleived to be for a CM who remains nameless at the moment as they wait for confirmation from the FA that the deal can go through. The player believed to be a Brazillian U-20 International will be unvealed as soon as clearence has been granted for him to play for the club this season.

Paulo1985 Also went on to say: " we are extreamly happy with the accusitions made during the first part of the transfer market and will now wait to see what is needed by the club during the pre-season but this will be down to Alex to decide and make the moves. Obviously we would like to welcome the new players to the club and we know that they will slot straight into the squad and become valuable members of this great club. Similarly we would like to wish the players that have left the club the best of luck.

We have not ruled out the possibiltiy of players leaving the club and welcome offers for players from other clubs.

Manchester United - Mind Games

Liverpool Chairman Fu_19 today spoke about the title race.

J. so what do youmake of the comments from the Manchester United chairman earlier today?

C. I try not listen to other chairmans comments about our team. But on this case its a case of trying to unsettle our team.

J. They seem to think your team will not push for a back to back titles! And said the signing you have mdae are average.

C.*Laughs* You have got to admit a chairmen of his stature should be able to see a quality player, but then again... Well as mentioned we are going for back to back titles this year and the likes of Manchester United really need to up their game if they want to compete with Liverpool. Manchester United finished below us last year because they where not good enough.

J. Waht do you think of the Signing Machester United have made?

C. Well they had to do something going on last years result. Wish them luck and the amount of money they have paid pays off for them.

I: Who do you see as your main challange this year for the premiership?

C Everyone has a chnce to win the league but Tottenham are a strong team and seem to have strenghtened in the right areas.
