Creating the manager - which attributes are helpful?

Recommended Posts

Just as FM16 is approaching I shall have to start digging into the new RPG element of the game, having taken a pass with FM15.

So now I wonder, which attributes of my manager character are actually ever used in the game.

My guess is that obviously the coaching ones will be used when I assign myself to coach a certain area. But what about the mental ones?:

- does motivating improve the effect of team talks?

- do the judgment options reveal any more information?

- does tactical knowledge have any effect whatsoever?

What would you advise to invest in and what would you disregard?

Cheers :)

When creating your manager if you hover over each attribute it gives you a breakdown how each is useful..

Coaching wise, I tend to stick with those attributes that are usually hard to find with in game coaches.

For instance, I like to play with championship sides or lower, which usually means I can't bring in a whole load of coaches so it's useful if I can take care of at least 2 or 3 training areas such as Tactical and help out with attacking for example.

Adaptability isn't usually useful to me as I tend to stay in one nation, having said that, if I was going to go on a journeyman career, adaptability suddenly becomes very important as a manager.

Player knowledge and Youth knowledge are only useful if you have attribute masking on, so bare that in mind also.

The only consistent essentials for me are man management, discipline and motivating, I will always pump points into those.

Unless something changes for FM16 if you want to be a coaching manager then put what points you can into Determintion and Level of Discipline (plus motivating) as they affect how good a coach you are and are the hardest attributes to increase, otherwise as Welshace said when selecting the attributes in FM15 there is a tooltip that explains what they do and its just a case of picking what suits your style.

I don't bother with player knowledge or youth knowledge as I'll employ scouts for that, unless I fancy a nation hoping career game then adaptability isn't needed either. I do look increase motivation, determination, discipline & man-management as imo they are the hallmarks of a top manager.

On the coaching side I drop points on keeper & fitness coaching because decent specialist coaches are easy to employ & favour mental, technical & tactical coaching over defensive & attacking coaching.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Wasn't aware that tool tip existed, obviously.

So for coaching one would increase certain areas and put others to a minimum, right? Plus determination motivating and discipline as I see?

And disregard the rest?

Of course I see that if you are at a small club, you'll have to do more by yourself, which may mean one needs to take a rather balanced approach.

But what at a biggish club where you will have enough coaches and scouts? What are the main points then?

At a big club, I basically solely focus on the non 'tracksuit' version, as you won't be able to be good enough to take the training (I much prefer to hire a 4* coach, rather than make it me)

so then that means maxing out the discipline, motivation, that kind of thing - so the players will actually take more notice of your teamtalks

I still don't understand the point of Tactical and Tracksuit manager. I understand what each is.

But surely you can develop both sides as a manager - be really good at coaching and really good at mental attributes.

If you choose Tracksuit manager, can you ever transition to a Tactical manager, or vice versa?

will my mental attributes raise in fm16? Is my adaptability stuck at 1? is my low determination making me at an exteme disadvantage player wage wise?

can someone please tell me this save feels like a waste...

Your Determination can increase, but it will only increase slowly and as far as I am aware your determination only affects your success in board requests and training level it has no bearing on your or your players wages.

Regarding your Adaptability if you stay in one country it won't increase, but it should increase if you manage clubs in various different countries. Though this stat only affects how well your adapt to different countries so if you stay in the same country it won't actually do anything anyway.

I must admit, I don't understand this either,
