My new home....

My original career idea for FM2014 I have discovered is somewhat unlikely, so this time around I am going with something I have been thinking of for a while - a one club game in Iceland.

Database is set up as follows: Picture 1: Picture 2 and all Icelandic leagues, in a January 2013 start. No edits other than club and competition names, and the usual for certain national teams.

I holiday the first season and in November 2013 find myself taking over this job:

Per wikipedia:

Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur or ÍR (Reykjavik Athletic) is an Icelandic sport club, based in Reykjavík. It has teams in football, handball, basketball, athletics, tenpin bowling, skiing, taekwondo, judo and dancing.

Notable former football players

Former Hull City captain Ian Ashbee played for the club on a short loan spell in 1996. He made 8 appearances and scored 3 goals before moving back to the East Yorkshire club.

Eiður Guðjohnsen started his football career at ÍR when he was six until he was 15, he has played for Bolton - Chelsea - Stoke - Fulham, he currently is playing for AEK Athens in Greece, he has also played for Barcelona in Spain and Monaco in France.

Eyjólfur Héðinsson is a former player of ÍR and now plays for SønderjyskE in the Danish Superliga.

In March 2012 former Scottish international midfielder Nigel Quashie joined the club as a player/assistant manager.

Honours

Champions of Reykjavík (2008)

Lengjan Cup, B-Division (2008)

2nd Division Icelandic Champions (2008)

Squad: not too bad for this level. Best players currently are:

Viktor Smari Segatta

Davio Magnusson

Magnus Mar Einarsson

Finances: a little money to tie us over. This will help.

This career should hopefully last for the duration - my main aim is to win the Champions League with this club.....we'll see if that works out!

Best of luck in Iceland
Good luck Iceland is always a bit of fun to build up.
But Ian Ashbee was at Derby in 1996, not Hull...

Good luck!

Good luck in Iceland, a real fun place to play.
Good luck in Iceland!
Best of luck in Iceland, man. I'm loving my Scandinavian save, hope yours goes the same way!

Thanks everyone -

2014 preseason preview about to go up - if anyone has played in Iceland before you'll know how long preseason is

ÍR (Reykjavik Athletic)

2014 Preseason Review

Icelandic First Division

I tore the squad apart - fortunately due to the length of preseason in Iceland, there has been a good amount of time to gel.

Transfers

Best few signings are:

Kristjan Gauti Emilsson: former Liverpool striker comes in on a free after leaving FH

Teitur Petursson: former Icelandic U21 centreback on a free

Sindri Bjornsson: young Icelandic midfielder on a free

Aron Bjarnason: flying winger signed after his release from Fram

Friendlies: picked up near the end once the squad had gelled a little more

Icelandic League Cup

Unlike League Cups in many other nations, this is a preseason tournament and begins with a group stages. We, unfortunately, finished bottom, however a win in the last game meant it wasn't all bad news.

2014 Season

Icelandic First Division

End of Season Review

League: 7th

A strong performance later in the season means we end up in midtable. A great start.

Icelandic Cup: 3rd round

We get through the 2nd round only to lose at home to IA in the 3rd.

Key Players

Asgrimur Albertsson - experienced centre back kept it calm at the back

Fannar Hilmarsson - dynamic right winger

Aron Bjarnason - excellent performances from the young left winger, with assists and goals also

Viktor Smari Segatta - our top scorer

Teitur Pettersson - another versatile defender whom helped out in defence

Finances - no problems here

I sign a new contract for another season

2015 Preseason Review

Icelandic First Division

Slightly less squad movement this time around - I had signed too many players last season so offloaded a few and replaced with some quality

Transfers

Best few signings are:

Theo Furness: the former Middlesborough signs on a free after his release from IA

Torfi Olafsson: promising midfielder on a free after leaving Premier champions KR

Heimir Einarsson: one cap wonder on a free from FH

Friendlies: an improvement on last season

Finances: hmm, not the greatest.

Icelandic League Cup

We garnered an extra point, but still finished bottom again. Luckily the board don't care, nor do I.

Icelandic First Division

End of Season Review

League: 3rd

Another good run near the end of the season means we improve a strong four places on the previous season. I reckon we can get promoted next year.

Icelandic Cup: 4th round

An extra hurdle met this time, only to lose on penalties.

Key Players

Kristjan Gauti Emilsson - the second top scorer dovetailed with:

Marjan Jugovic - the Serb was our top scorer, although I don't think we can afford him now

Aron Bjarnason - probably our most skiful player, the young winger has shown strong signs of improvement

Teitur Petursson - strong at the back once more

Fannar Hilmarsson - another good season from the right winger

Finances - these have really got bad. I've had to let some contracts expire and put some players on NC to save on costs.

Financial problems meant I haven't been able to improve the squad as desired.

Finances: a loan has helped out a little, but still not great.

We didn't qualify for the knockouts again, but a much improved performance this time around.

End of Season Review

League: 1st

An excellent overall performance means we wrapped up the league in August.

Icelandic Cup: Winners

An excellent run of victories leading to a win on penalties in the final.

Key Players

Hmilar Rafn Emilsson - played well as second striker as well as second top scorer

Heimir Einarsson - solid from the veteran centre back, but leaving at the end of the season

Marjan Jugovic - took a more than 50% pay cut but still finished as top scorer

Aron Bjarnason - excellent once more from the winger

Teitur Petursson - another great season from the centre half

Finances - winning the league and our cup run has helped out massively with these.

2017 Preseason Review

Icelandic Premier Division

A bit of a challenge this time around to improve the squad sufficiently for the top division, however hopefully we just have enough quality. We did get Helsingborgs as a parent but none of their players wanted to join on loan.

Transfers

Highlights:

Gabriel Ingi Agnarsson - former KR youngster is a pricey but excellent addition to our strikerforce

Gunnar Mar Guomundsson - experienced central midfielder on a free after his release by IA

Bragi Bergsson - attacking midfielder on a free from Vikingur Reykjavik

Friendlies: not too bad

Finances: hoping we'll get some kind of run in Europe to help with these.

Finally got through the group stages, only to lose in the quarter finals.

Key Players

Gabriel Ingi Agnarsson - an excellent season from the top scoring striker

Julius Steinn Vidarsson - a breakthrough season for the youth product at centre back

Hallgrimur Pordarsson - excellent from the young right winger

Finances - our brief European adventure has kept these solid for the season.

Brilliant first season in the top flight. Iceland is one of the few countries in Europe i've never managed in on any FM (Finland, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland being the others) and it looks fun.

Thanks.

It is a very good league to play in - there are only 22 league games a season so you can fly through. Also there are no professional teams so if you get enough decent players and a tactic to suit, you can get a decent amount of success early on. The only downside is the low reputation, so I am trying to concentrate on youth at the moment in lieu of anything else. Hopefully I can get a loanee or two in from Helsingborgs this season as they are somewhat better than most of my squad at the moment.

2018 Preseason Review

Icelandic Premier Division

Still can't get anyone on loan from our parents - I now have Rosenberg and Lillestrom also - however at least we'll be getting over £120k a year in fees.

Transfers

Highlights:

Atli Gunnar Borgporsson: young left back signed after his release from Stjarnan

Indridi Porlaksson: attacking midfielder signs after his release from Valur

Bjorn Jonsson: striker signed after leaving Fjolnir

Runar Alex Runarsson: Icelandic international keeper also signs after leaving Fylkir

Friendlies: pretty decent

Finances: we'll need another European run to sort these out

Icelandic League Cup

Through the group stages again, but lost in the semis.
