FM 11: The official Primera División de México discussion thread

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Mexican Primera division thread. Here I will hope to tempt you in to coming across to a rarely discussed league in this section. First of all I will give you some information about the league itself (taken from wiki). Then in the next section I will give you a detailed guide of each club and how they start in FM which is entirely my own work.

The Primera División Profesional (English: Professional First Division), simply known as the Primera División, is the top level of the Mexican football league system and is administered by the Mexican Football Federation. It was established in 1943 and as of 2010 has 18 clubs, divided into three groups competing for league titles. Each season the league holds two tournaments, the Apertura in the winter and the Clausura in the summer. The league is currently ranked number 15 in the world and number 10 in the last decade (2001-2010) by the IFFHS

Amateur era

Prior to the Liga Mayor, there was no national football league in Mexico, and football competitions were held within relatively small geographical regions. The winners of the Primera Fuerza, a local league consisting of teams near and around Mexican Federal District, was considered the national competition. There were other regional leagues such as the Liga Veracruzana, Liga Occidental of Jalisco and Liga del Bajío that also had notable clubs. Many club owners were not keen on the idea of establishing a professional league, despite paying players under the table. With the increasing demand of football, there was a sense of urgency to unite all the local amateur leagues in Mexico to progress as a football nation. The professional national league was finally established in 1943

Professional era

When the F.M.F. announced the formation of the nation's first professional league, many clubs petitioned to join the newly formed league. The F.M.F. announced that ten clubs would form the Liga Mayor (Major League). The first members of the league were founded by six clubs of the Primera Fuerza of Mexico City, two clubs from the Liga Occidental and two members from the Liga Veracruzana.

Reformation

Throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, many small clubs faced economic difficulties which were attributed to the lack of international competition by Mexican clubs and an unrewarding league format. As a result of the difficulties suffered by smaller teams, financially affluent Deportivo Guadalajara was able to capture 8 championships within a relatively short time span. Mexican clubs that placed high in the league standings could not afford to participate in prestigious international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores as did many South American and European clubs.

The Mexican League Boom

The 1970 World Cup held in Mexico was the first World Cup televised on a grand scale. The season following the FIFA World Cup, the F.M.F. changed the league format and established a playoff phase to determine the national champion. This was done to regenerate interest and reward teams that placed fairly high in the standings.

Regular Season tournaments

In 1996, the league decided to split the season into two championships. This measure was done to generate additional revenues to finance the F.M.F.'s lower divisions. The league holds two tournaments per year, originally called invierno (winter) and verano (summer), now changed to apertura (opening - running from August to December) and clausura (closing - running from January to May). The change was done to correspond with FIFA's world footballing calendar, which "opens" in July/August and "closes" in April/May of the next year. So throughout the footballing world, the action lasts about ten months. In Europe, where tournaments are played as one single championship throughout the year, there is only one champion per year. In the case of Mexico, Argentina and other countries in South America, a new champion is crowned about every five months, or two per year.

Every season, The 18 teams are split into three groups of six, either group one, group two, or group three. They remain in their respective groups throughout the two tournaments played that season. The qualification phase of the tournament lasts 17 weeks, as all teams play each other once per tournament in a home and home series over both tournaments. The qualifying teams reach the liguilla phase of the respective tournament.

Relegation and Promotion

At the end of a season, after the apertura and clausura tournaments, one team is relegated to the next lower division, Liga de Ascenso, and one team from that division is promoted and takes the place left open by the relegated team. Currently, the relegated team is determined by computing the points-per-game-played ratio for each team, considering all the games played by the team during the last two seasons (four tournaments). The team with the lower ratio is relegated. For teams recently promoted, only the games played since their promotion are considered (two or four tournaments). The team promoted from Liga de Ascenso is the winner of a two-leg match between the champions of the apertura and clausura tournaments of that division. If a team becomes the champion in both tournaments, it is automatically promoted. Most recent movements have been Indios de Ciudad Juárez relegated after clausura 2010, and Club Necaxa promoted for apertura 2010

You rarely see threads about people taking on a game in Mexico (or the Americas in general to be honest) on this forum so the idea of this is to give you a general idea of the division. There are some very good players of all ages playing in the country and traditionally it is a competitive league. From my look around the squads whilst writing this report it seems that the top teams won't have more than 3 players in a squad better than say a midtable sides players, which means everyone can just about beat each other on their day. There isn't a big difference in teams budgets as you would have seen bar Tigres, who if you even went for the consoldate option there should be enough to improve little by little without putting pressure on yourself.

For the first few years at least I can't see a team running away from the pack domestically as you'll have the CONCACAF Champions League, a possible Copa Libertadores campaign and the SuperLiga to compete in, on top of the domestic league season and a possible 6 more fixtures in La Liguilla which will test your squad to the absolute limit, but let's be honest we all want to win, so the clean sweep and the World club championship should be your long term goal, it won't be easy though.

If the money is there for your club it does seem possible to bring back the likes of the Dos Santos brothers and Vela back to the country, though they may be more favourable to a loan move at first but for the likes of Javier Hernandez to come back it will be extremely difficult for the first few years.

If you decide to start a game in Mexico I suggest loading no more than the 2 divisions in the country, USA, Brazil and Argentina and load top division players from North and South America (all those mentioned comes to a total of 8 leagues and 33,000 players) The reason being is you're not going to be able to attract players from Europe that are actually any better than the ones in the Americas, so why slow the game down for no obvious benefit? Besides that how many European players do you actually see playing on the other side of the Atlantic in real life? It is a good way to keep your game as true to life as you can and get you to start scouting away from your Lukaku's ect;

The reason I don't recommend loading any of the other nations in the Americas is because if these clubs are playable then the prices of players will hike up quite a bit.

I think I am done now and I realise these opening posts are quite long, but I wanted to give as much information as possible so all that is left to say is, if you are bored of your current save, would would like a long term career in a competitive league where there is a chance to discover new players then choose fun, choose Mexico.

Thanks lads  It took me an absolute age to go through every bit of information and even the final presentation took a fair while. Luckily most of it was done at work as i've been on nights :D

I've gone for Cruz Azul. Mainly for the challenge of making them top dogs in Mexico city and to see if I can get a stadium close to the size of the Azteca. With a population of 20 odd million there's quite a bit of room to win some new supporters

Even by going for top half you can switch the budgets to £8M. I'll not be spending that much though unless I sell one or two first. If I can get a right back and center midfielder I'm pretty confident of having a good season. If I have any left over after that then i'll look to bring Giovanni Dos Santos in on loan as he'll be able to cover a few positions for me.

I have decided to have a go at this as i'm intrigued. I have loaded up Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and USA like you said with all divisions. I have also loaded top division players from North and South America which makes me have 31,000 players. I hope I have the Mexican players in Europe on my game.

Yes they are there mate. What team are you going for? I'm going to post an update on my game in an hour or so as it's gone okay considering I only managed to bring one player in. If you've not started the season yet then make sure you have enough bodies in, i'm playing twice a week every week and some of the pitches are very big and tiredness starts to creep in the last 20 minutes or so :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention in the OP, you need one at least one player under 21 in your starting 11 (doesn't have to finish the game or have another under 21 player to replace him though) so take that in to account when buying.

I haven't started, I did but I forgot to save it :(. Didn't get far though. I'm undecided as to who to be. I was thinking Santos Laguna, just for Christian Benitez or being the lowest team in the top division and trying to make them the best.

Not a bad choice Santos, Benitez is amongst the top scorers in my game but my very own Javier Orozco is something else at the moment which is surprising as he looked average, decided to give him a go in the friendlies and he's undroppable.

Looks like my last post put the kiss of death on everything good that was happening:rolleyes: At the time of my last post I was sitting in 5th place and whilst never looking like we'd top the Apertura, we looked like being a top 6 side. However I had 3 long term injuries in one game (Gimenez and Orozco being the main ones) and then another the following week.

This made life even harder than it already was and in the end we finished 11th and to top that off we didn't even get out of our champions league group (one we should have won even playing mostly reserve players)

Drastic times calls for drastic measures so I went out and spent a combined £4M we don't technically even have on Cesar Ibanez ( left back from Atlas) and Carlos Alberto Pena a midfielder from Pachua to add to the signing of right back Darvin Chavez who I bought back in the summer. Both are potential leading players in the division so i'm going to give them both a chance to start in every other game or so as Pineda and Torrado in particular struggle after 65 mins or so and that is around the usual time of games things start to fall apart. I'm not usually one for spending money I don't have but something needed to be done as soon as I could and chances being I will continue to lose money in the Clausura I didn't want to risk having no chance of getting any targets next summer with reduced finances, so the plan is to play my way out of the financial situation for the next year.

Going to leave investing in another forward for now as Galvan will be back in February so i'm aiming to let him play 3-4 youth games and then get him around the first team (even if it's only off the bench) by the end of March.

Even i've been shocked at just how hard this division is. Those few injuries has changed a solid start to the Apertura in to a dreadful part of the season, if nothing else it's proving my statement that it's a difficult division to play in :D

Planning a few easy friendlies before the Clausura now to try and get some form back in to the players and hope the additions can keep us a bit fresher. Securing those signings has certainly renewed my optimism as during the last 5-6 games I was getting frustrated that nothing was working.

As said above we had an average time in the 2010 Apertura, finishing 11th

The second part of the season went much better for us, where with some investments we managed to get to the final of the Clausura La Liguilla, after finishing the regular Clausura stage in place 2nd place.

As you can see in the last few fixtures here it was our solid defence and good home form that got us through to the final, I actually fancied our chances of winning the final itself until the worst possible thing that could happen did. 8 players were called up to play in the Gold cup for their countries leaving our squad thread bare. 7 of the 8 would have started and we also had Giminez nowhere near fit enough to play more than the last 20 minutes of each leg. I honestly believe considering the good account that we gave of ourselves during those 2 games we could have probably won if we had 4 of the internationals available.

It is a bit disappointing but considering what I was saying about how hard this league can be and the problems you face, then I have to take it as par for the course (if nothing else it's proved how hard it is yet again :D)

My standout players for the season were the deadly pair of Javier Orozco and Emanuel Villa.

These were my transfers for the season, that in hindsight I probably went a bit silly on as we are permanently in a few million pounds worth of debt, so with that in mind my transfers for the 2011 season have all been to reduce the debt but still strengthening/maintaining where I could, I didn't want Villa to go at all, but he got unsettled and then when I tried to negotiate a new contract he wanted £20k which was far too much for an above average 29 year old at this level and when Montero was offered for that price and only wanting £8k a week it made good sense to bring him in as everything about that deal meant more money for me for a player as good as or if not better than Villa.

Elmer Guity is potentially a leading midfielder, though in all honesty the aim is to make a profit out of him in the summer as he has already improved a bit from when the transfer was arranged.

The 2011 Apertura was very difficult for long periods as due to having NACL qualifiers and then the group stage to contend with we ended up with 3 games in hand that ended up being played over the last 2 weeks of the season, luckily for us we were already in good form and I rotated as sensibly as I could and we finished top of the tree. Unfortunately, some clever tit decided it would again be an ideal time to play a few internationals whilst the La Liguilla was being competed so we lost 2-1 at Santos Laguna and just couldn't find a way through during the 0-0 draw at home.

Monterrey reached the WCC final, so with any luck that will boost the leagues rep a little at the end of the season.

I'm quite a way in to the Clausura now but will update on my next post as whenever I talk about how well or bad a season is going it seems to get worse ;)

How have I only just seen this thread? Absolute brilliant job.

I have had FM uninstalled for a few weeks for my lack of desire to play it (re-installed the other night), this is definitely what I am going to do first.

What would you say was the most fun team to be, has a few youngsters capable of playing in the division and has a solid base to start on?

If you aren't after instant success then i'd go for Atlas without a doubt, you have Pacheco, Ortega, Vidrio and Ibánez. In my game Atlas were relegated but they are far from a bad side, as long as you can get a keeper and a center half (I paid a lot more for Romero as it was midway through the season but he's one of the best defenders in the division averaging well over 7.00 per game for both me and when he was at Morelia) I think you'd be higher than the predicted place. Ibanez has actually started quite a lot of games for me after I bought him from them and not really put a foot wrong. Pacheco is starting games in the second division for them and he's starting to come of age there so i'm looking at bringing him in myself in the summer.

An easier one would be Chivas and Toluca, both have very good youngsters and with Chivas i'd not be buying anything but a bit extra youth as the first team is one of the strongest in the division.

I hope you give this a go, it's a tough division and can be a struggle financially but that has been what has kept me at this save, usually in season 2 i'd have expected to be one of the top teams in any division but the league is so even that there'll be no way anyone could achieve it easily, I honestly think you'd enjoy it as you seem to be like me where boredom of a team can set in, it's also one of those leagues where you have no choice but to get the youth in as you have to have a player aged 20 or younger in your starting 11 and there's no cut off date for leeway, as soon as someone hits 21 you need another kid in there :D

I don't want to be Toluca after they are predicted 1st.

Will look at Atlas/Chivas.

I am liking the sound of Atlas more!

Quite a bit to round up here.

First off we finished 2nd in the 2012 Clausura which obviously meant we topped our mini group and made La Liguilla. The quarters seen us face a tricky tie at Santos Laguna where with a few players missing we lost the first leg but managed to overcome it with a comfortable 3-0 win in the second. The semi took us to one of my bogey teams Monterrey where we played very well but let in a late goal to draw the tie 2-2. The second leg was a nervy affair and with my previous record against them I expected a slip but it was our turn to nab a late goal through Orozco. On to the final and we had yet another away game first this time at Pumas which we won 2-1. Usually I would have said that was a good result but yet again we had an international week to contend with and we lost 5 players because of it. Luckily Giminez, Vela, Romero and Montero were not called up by their countries so we had a good attacking base to work with and my best central defender and all of them proved to step up to the task and help the others along as we again won 2-1 to claim the first domestic trophy under my management at the club. (results of last few games here)

That win was a few months after we somehow managed what I can only describe as my most uninspiring trophy win ever :D Rather than go in to detail about it, here's the results i'm actually a bit embarrassed about it all to be honest, in many games we were pathetic but it's in the record books so not much I can do about it.

On to the pre season now and I took the Superliga a bit more seriously this year and used it as a way of getting the first team fit and up and running results wise rather than just playing the reserves like the previous years competition. We lost one of the group games and won the other 2 and went on to win it.

The last bit of Silverware up for grabs before the new Apertura started was the champions trophy (a game between the Apertura and Clausura winners) We also won this after weathering the storm in the first leg where there was key players again on international duty but they were back for the second leg and we won comfortably.

Whilst winning every competition we have played so far in 2012 i'm far from happy, my squad isn't anywhere near where I want it to be. The Clausura in particular seems to be a lottery of how well one team can cope with their better players out (I always seem to have the most missing on international weeks) and i'm still unsure how to address this. The only thing I can do until this problem is sorted is make sure my 5 foreigners aren't internationals to reduce the burden a bit but even that will only be able to work so long and even while they aren't playing for their countries i'm relying on them being fit.

I didn't bring a single player in over the summer, there was only £350k made available to me so instead I decided to sell and release any dross and use that bit of money to renew players contracts if they were in their final year. I usually don't like not adding a new face but felt that I need to try and control money a bit better as we are still losing a million or so a month and then having to rely on the board to pump more back in.

This is proving to be tougher than I ever imagined with all the factors you have to take on board. I'm pretty sure ticket prices didn't go up this season (£4.20 a ticket) and I don't even sell out the 35,000 ground, getting more like 28,000 in most weeks. I currently have 3 decent youngsters I am trying to get to a good level to help a bit so I can sell them on, non of them look like they will be world beaters but if I can make some money out of them and others in the future I hope that will ease the strain a great deal.

Had a look around my new Mexican club, and found an absolute gem of a player in my u18s.

At 16 years old, he is 6ft 7. Jumping of 16 and Finishing of 16. Not bad for a young player...

Good choice Tyoldinho, Atlas have some good kids but will probably be a bit more challenging than Chivas. If you can get that kids heading and composure up he looks like he'll be a star for years to come for you

I'll update the final part of 2012 now and update the beginning of 2013 in a while when it's done...

We managed to win our first Apertura title after topping the group and then beating local rivals America 6-0 on aggregate in La Liguilla. The whole campaign was pretty pleasing considering I had my bi-annual tactics change which was made to be more accommodating to the pitches in Mexico (including a change to my own pitch dimensions to accommodate the older players in my squad ) and the goals have started to go in at a much improved rate.

In the WCC we started at the quarter final stage with a game against FAR Rabat, a comfortable 3-0 where I could afford to rest a few players for the tougher ties ahead. On to the semis and next up was Fluminense, a game where we probably should have lost but the defending was superb and we held on through extra time for a 0-0 draw and won the penalty shoot out 4-1.

As expected Man Utd won their semi final and I was a little worried that it was a step too far for us but as I clicked on their team to check the formation I was delighted to see that they barely had a decent team available for the game against us, everyone below the starters there bar Hargreaves missed the final but there was still the threat of Nani and Rooney in-particular to deal with and it was Rooney who scored the first goal of the game after 15 mins. We attacked almost straight away though and Fredy Montero got us a quick equaliser. United had a few chances but we also had a few of our own but failed to convert the really good ones, so I took Galvan off and replaced him with Javier Orozco who popped up with a superb chip over the keeper to make it 2-1. Smalling was sent off after 82 minutes to give us a bit of rest bite as we looked to take advantage and kill the game off, but then on 87 minutes Chavez my right back brought Rooney down just outside the box to earn a red for two bookings to give us a few problems. Luckily we hung on and won the game 2-1. (proof of the last few results of 2012 here)

Money is still a big problem for us and i'm trying to give kids games where I can so I can look in to bring them in to replace the older players, but in reality unless we get some good money over the summer then I am probably going to have to go another season without either buying or adding with freebies.

I started as Cruz Azul last night, think Mexico looks a very fun place to manager and certainly different to the regular Europe. I signed only Ali Karimi for £1.4M, Edgar Martini left ofr £160K but so far that's the onlydeals I've done. I feel the team is very strong and providing I can hold on to my key players I'm pretty confident. Won my first friendly 9-1!!!

Few questions though... I looked on the rules of the league and can't find how qualification for the CONCACAF Champions League works? also qualification for the Copa Liberbertadores? And it says that it will be split into 3 geoups of 6; how are they decided? also will they be the same for both of the seasons? I'm a bit confused about the structure.

The two playoff finalists qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League. The winner goes to the group stage and the loser goes to the qualifying playoff. The top three teams in the league table for the opening stage who are not involved in the CONCACAF Champions League qualify for the Copa Libertadores. Groups in the league are determined by league finish from the previous season (they are supposed to be balanced). They are the same for one season.

It is, but Mexican clubs have to win the NACL to be able to play in the World Club Cup as Mexican clubs were only invited in to the Copa Libertadores to extend the competition a bit back in 1998. If a Mexican club won the Copa Libertadores then the World Club Cup place would go to the South American finalist, so it makes sense in respect for the top sides in Mexico to continue in the North American competitions.

first of all sorry for misspelled English.

I wanted to do this guide because few fans suffer as much as a fan of america (mexicanteam)

to understand that suffering would have to know that although our league is based on cheating, and mediocrity.

one of the elements that defines us is the passion imagine that in a third world country like mine the only thing that motivates many people to go on is soccer, unlike many countries we have no other sport is the only sport that TV transmitted. imagine that the city that many define as the world's most violent city Ciudad Juarez reported no deaths on Saturday in which the local team plays to that degree comes passion.

and in our society there are only two types of American people (most people with money, vain and conceited) and chivistas (most workers in the lower middle class, humble, and really aggressive) our community could also be defined in this way 40 percent of people support the america and the other 40 to chivas and another 20 percent supporting other teams and here begins the via crucis of Americanists to be the richest team in the league makes the other teams hate us that means when we win they say we cheated and we pay the referee and when we lose it that 60% of people make fun of us for 6 days until the next day of sport.

Worst of all is that America currently passes through the second worst decade

since in the last 10 years we have only managed to win a trophy but as all this get started?.

very simple during the decade of the 90s we have an invincible america. each day america defeat his opponents by 6,7,8 goals

and that was for a year until the owner of america Force to the manager to get to play one of his friends. what the technical reuse the next day the manager was fired for that reason.

since then, America doesn't won nothing even bringing expensive signings or hiring the best managers.

well that's all I hope you liked my post and thus know a little more than the league of my country

pd. try not to offend any fan of chivas or Mexican citizen

EDIT; Would help if you used paragraphs, but moved your opening post into the México thread.

I see thanks (Y) best case scenario I win the primera division both stages and the play off (two winners of both stages face each other I think) North American Champions League and the club world championship :D

Problem is there is no money for the NACL, whereas you'd be looking at roughly £2.5M + better gates for any Copa Libertadores win. I'm in the summer of 2014 in my save and hoping my success means we'll get a very good sponsorship. TV money has gone down for some reason even though Mexican clubs are doing well, i'll write a proper report tomorrow or Sunday)

  • 2 months later...

First off, great post SMPL.

So i've decided to go a little out of my comfort zone and start a career in Mexico which will be my first real game outside of Europe, so looking forward to that challenge! I chose to go with Club Universidad Nacional, who i'll just refer to as Pumas from here-on-in. Decided on these because I think there is a lot of potential here, especially with their giant stadium and only predicted 6th, so plenty of room for improvement. I have been taking a key interest in bringing through youth lately, so with there youth facilities already pretty good i'm hoping that with the right training and a bit of luck we can get some real gems come through. Also how amazing are their kits!

It seems that with the update there are some changes in finances, they no longer have anyway near the £millions to spend, but now have the transfer budgets of £90k, £100k, £110k and £120k with the wage caps remaining the same. The club are already spending £165k p/w on wages so I will have to ship some players out to balance the books a bit. Opted for top half finish which was the lowest I could choose and need to drop £15k in wages. Thought i'd go safe for the first season, get used to the league structure, players, and try get my head around the transfer system.

I'll do 2 updates per season, one after pre-season and an end of season summary. I'll chuck in some notable things along the way if anything comes about. Well wish me luck and hopefully a few others will start a game and post up their own experiences.

Good luck Mikal, I haven't had a look at any changes for the new patch as i've been really in to my Malaga save but I still think this is one of the most fun leagues in FM. On the last patch i'd be against different (and quite often less fashionable clubs) for the title . I do hope they have sorted the dynamic reputation and TV money out properly though, I was getting less each season even though I was winning titles, NACL and the WCC which was a bit annoying, if it wasn't for a few big sponsorship deals i'd have been in the red all the time. Remember to focus on your youth as the league rules state there has to be 1 player under 21 in the starting 11.

Have fun and I may come back and join you after i'm done with Malaga :)

Link to post

Cheers, let's hope they have fixed the problems you experienced! And good luck with Malaga :D

Pre-season 2010/11

So first off, I cancelled all the friendlies and set some of my own up to generate some more income, had 5 friendlies which all got me £130k/140k per fixture, so that was good. Another aim for this off-season was to slash the wage bill as best I could without restricting the quality I would leave myself. Also signed 1 scout and 2 coaches, but I will need better ones in the future.

Transfer History

So no players brought in, I felt I had the quality to see me through until at least next season, so I was not so worried about the lack of activity coming in. Managed to get the wage budget £7k p/w under which was great, and also left myself £1.5m transfer budget if I need to delve into the market at some point. Most notable departure was Dario Veron, one of the clubs top defenders, but he was on nearly £17k and had to go really, he's now earning a nice £30,500 in Saudi Arabia!

So as well as the friendlies we were also entered into the SuperLiga before the seasons start. Going pretty well! I could have waited until after the final to post this, but thought i'd make you wait! :)

I also have the MLS All-Stars game coming up in a week, which i'm not really sure why I am playing this, but hey-o.

League

Currently just the 1 game played against Atlas which I won 3-1.

Marco Antonio Palacios: Our main guy in the heart of the defence. We was missing him for the first leg of the playoff final due to suspension and it really showed.

Notable shout has to go out to Raul Servin, too. The youngster stepped up with my other senoir striker was not performing well and really made the spot his own.

Mid-Season Transfer Window

Transfer history

Sold two high earners who weren't featuring in my plans, felt a bit bad letting Castro go seeing as he had been at the club all his career it seems. But maybe he will get some better luck at Newcastle!

I wanted to strength the CB, MC and ST positions and I think I managed to bring in the quality to be able to do that. Added to my foreign player limit with 2 Brazilians as well. I was trying to keep it as "real" as possible and not signing any European players.

First up is the Brazilian CB Johnny. Looks a good player and will go straight in the starting XI and at £325k I am hoping he turns out to be a bargain. Then bagged myself a Mexican MC, Miguel Morales, who looks the part and should really add some quality to the midfield. Low determination is my only worry for him. Last up is my Brazilian forward Felipe. Looks quite well rounded and hopefully can make a solid contribution for the rest of the season. I was hoping to sign Pablo Mouche over him, though.

Had some friendlies as well just to keep the revenue coming in and keep player fitness up. Now let the second half the season begin!

Decent start there Mikal:thup: Obviously La Liguilla was a bit of a blow for you but it is still a lot better than I did in both parts of my first season :D Morales looks like he could be an important player for you and more importantly for the end of the season is he's nowhere near the international scene (the last few weeks of the season is a killer if you have too many international players as you won't see them during that important period which did wind me up :D)

Yeah am hoping Morales will come in to his own soon enough. Is it every season that players go off on international duty?

What do you get for winning La Liguilla? I know you become "champions" of the opening stage or however it works, but do you get like automatic entry to any cup tournaments or any other perk?

Pre-Season 2011/12

Season Aims

After a successful first season in Mexico, winning 1 trophy along the way, I am setting my sights a bit higher this time round. At least 1 league championship and 1 cup trophy (out of SuperLiga, Copa Libertadores or NACL).

As usual I set up my own friendlies to get the most profit. Took in between £130,000 and £150,000 per fixture. Probably had 5 or 6 games.

Transfer History

So a reasonably busy window I would say. Managed to bring in some quality Mexican players in Estrada and Calderon who will both go straight into the first team. de Santiago was brought as more of a backup striker incase anything was to go wrong, looks a solid player too. Baba Collins is an old FM hero so had to bring him in on £45k! Vanderlei is now my first choice Brazilian goalkeeper, or at least provide the right kind of competition for Palacios. I also have a very promosing 18 year old Brazilian coming at the end of the year when their loan has finished, and that will be my foreign player limit maxed out. Very hard to find quality Mexican players it would seem! I'm going to keep an eye on my youth, i've had 2 or 3 come through this year I like the look of and will try get them involved as much as I can.

SuperLiga

I'm not sure why it's not showing my 2 previous games, but 1 was a win and 1 was a loss to Monterrey, who I have in the final, and in my upcoming league game. I have played almost an all reserve side in this competition since it's not that important and it gives them the chance to impress.

That's all for now, shall update once the Opening Stage has concluded.

Unlucky with the Copa Libertadores game. Bet that was gutting after thinking you'd snuck through? :( Bar that you've had a solid start. The first title is the hardest to win, each part of the season always seemed to bring a different rival for the crown on my save, anyone can can beat anyone on their day in this division which is one of the things I loved about it

I was well and truly gutted, Dentinho had tore my team to pieces for the most part over the two legs and happened to be my downfall at the end of it! Do you know why the Copa Libertadores is held in such high regard? It's reputation is 4.5 stars where as the NACL is on par with the SuperLiga, reputation wise. Is the main thing with winning the NACL to get into the Club World Championships? If you know, could you give me a breakdown of which competitions are the most prestigious out of SuperLiga, NACL, Club World Championships and Copa Libertadores? Cheers.

I do agree with someone new always trying to challenge for the title though!

Brilliant thread, I plan a stop off in Mexico on my current journey man save. I am in 2023 and Puebla are being backed by a tycoon, America(MEX) have just started to get back to winning ways after a few bad years and Monterrey won the Libertadores a couple of years a go.

Pumas - Mexican First Division Opening Season Review - 2011

Always falling at the last hurdle. Just can't seem to get that final push.

Need to slash the wage bill, went round offering contracts for fun and it hasn't gone so well. Got 2 players coming end of the year. One I asked the board to take care of, mainly to see if they would, so that's more of an expense. There are a few players punching above their weight in regards to their wage so I will look to move them on.

The NACL is the only way you can get in to the WCC. Financially the Copa Libertadores is the better one to be in, though if you went on to win the WCC then it'd more or less work out the same. Even with the dynamic rep prize money is set for all the continental competitions. It would be handy if AcidBurn could give us an idea of how the Mexican league is standing against other competitions in his save
