  1. Crossed fingers, I guess. England is a nice place to get the various ones, so that helps though. Also, I try to hire foreign staff if they are about equal to the British ones (or British ones with foreign scouting knowledge), just in case it helps!
  2. Well, there it is. I kinda had to sell for that money...
  3. Head into Staff-> Responsibilities-> Staff and make sure you are NOT set as Handle team selection for your youth team. If you delegate it, you don't have to see it anymore.
  4. Indeed he is! He got released for being crap, but is a decent scout, thought I think I could have gotten better if I wanted. But I want to keep the youngsters who don't retire altogether if I can!
  5. I love getting my old youth players in as staff. He is a young one too
  6. XaW - Marine FC - Season 2030/31 (Season 7) - Sky Bet Championship Squad | Transfers | Finances We avoided relegation, so we did what we set out to do. And we even stayed away from the dog fight for survival too, by hovering around lower mid-table for the entire season. On a very positive note, we are no longer losing money, but we aren't really making much either, so improving the club will not be very easy unless we get a magical cup run or something, as we are currently quite far away from going up into the Premier League. Looking at the players, I'd say we currently have a good batch of top League One players, and some that are rated as Championship ones, so we are clearly doing well based on the actual skill level of the players. So I think I just need to wait for more development or more talented players in the intake. In the mean time, we'll just keep cruising here in the Championship, at least I hope we can continue to stay up. FA Cup: We beat Crystal Palace and QPR before we lost to Leicester in the 5th round. Carabao Cup: We beat Stockport County, Sunderland, and Derby before we lost to Chelsea in the 4th round. Best players from the academy: Ben Jordan 26g - Was meant to be 2nd choice left back, but does so well he plays a lot for us. Isaac Dean 28a - Is starting to really grow into a good attacking midfielder for us. Would like to see a bit more creativity from him though, but he does pop up with a fair amount of goals. Rakeem Hughes-Mason 26e - Still leads our line well and scores quite a lot of goals, but does have some goal draughts now, as his finishing has started to let him down at times. New club records: Most league goals - Rakeem Hughes-Mason 26e - 113 goals I did get one upgrade approved this season, to get us out of the horrid facilities we had. U21s We created a U21 team for this season and they started in the English U21 Division 3 where they finished rock bottom. U18s After winning the U18 Youth Alliance League North-West last season they turned up in the U18 Professional Development League this season where they finished 2nd in the North group. Then they lost in the champions playoff semi final to eventual winners Cardiff. FA Youth Cup: They beat Sheffield United before losing to Leeds in the 4th round. 7. That has nothing to do with homegrown in itself. They need to be homegrown and also under 23 years old. And you need 4 of those. If you don't have that, you need to leave the missing number of subs without a player selected.
  8. Nah, that just happens for the first few weeks after you take over a new club. Wait a couple of months and the option pops back up.
  9. It happens, but rarely, and it even happened in previous FMs. Here is a gif I created in the FM23 feedback thread:
  10. That's, _leads (ie manages)_, not schedules. In the responsibilities under match, there are an option to chose who schedules them.
  11. I will add one more thing. The game actively tries to avoid letting you min-max things, so while there are many ways to find out some things that happen beneath the surface of the game, SI seems to be deliberately obtuse about giving away mechanics or even the best ways to stack them in you favour, unless implicit by the nature of football itself. So most of the "facts" you can read from youtubers or guides or whatnot that does not include a direct quote by SI staff, are the views of the person making them, or in the best cases, seemingly so. Since this is meant to be a simulation, there should be more than one way to do well in the game. So while certain tactical setups, or attributes can have big impacts, SI haven't directly said how much weight any given variable actually have in any given situation, other than the "higher is better" generalisation. And there is also a bit of randomness mixed into it to mirror how chaotic real life football can be. After all, in football, you can do everything correct and lose, while you can do everything wrong and still win too. And this is true for the game too, some times you are just unlucky. I just wanted to add this into the mix since you seem to be one that likes to dive deep, just remember that you will find some stuff that won't have 100% answers.
  12. As long as you two are behaving and not start name calling or that this thread turns into a "my dad is stronger than yours" playground argument, knock yourselves out.
  13. It's essentially an open world game in text! And around the world of football, of course. The game will play out, if you join or not, as long as you press continue. How you fit into it and what your goals are, are totally up to you. Do you want to start off without a club and see who wants to hire you and aim to be the best? Go ahead! Do you want to take over Manchester City or PSG and spend millions on the best players and steamroll? Go ahead. Do you want to recreate the glory days of <insert club>? Go ahead. There are essentially no finish to the game, and the whole game can rather be seen as what other games would have as an end game, where you can do challenges, grind up, or just explore. All of this is possible from day one. So it's, as @Andros mentions, essentially a sandbox game, as most simulations really are. Set up the game to make it the most fun, and go from there. I think most people who start playing, usually takes over their favourite team and try to win stuff and become the best team in the world. When you've done that a few times, you might want to do something else, and you start in a different country, or league and try to win everything there. Others don't really care about winning, but just enjoy playing with tactics, to see if they can replicate a real managers tactic, and if they do, how well it does at that point. Many others try various challenges, either that they have thought of themselves, or have seen around the internet. Personally, I always do the "youth only" challenge, and have done for years. This essentially means we holiday for a season and then takes over a club that is promoted into the lowest possible tier and try to win the domestic league as well as the Champions League without buying or loaning any players at all, only using the players we get from our youth intakes every year. It's probably one of the hardest challenges that is viable in the game, but that's what I and others do for fun. The goals or limitations you set for yourself is up to you, if you indeed want goals, and just don't want to think about anything else than winning the next game!
  14. Do you have any installments being payed out from previous seasons? As for wages, perhaps paying wages for players already sold?
  15. XaW - Marine FC - Season 2029/30 (Season 6) - Sky Bet League One Squad | Transfers | Finances Well, turns out League One is rather easy! Or at least, we are a better team than I knew. But considering Rochdale almost finished in the playoffs this season, and that we beat them in the Vanarama National a few years ago, I guess these leagues are quite close. And considering we also won the EFL Trophy this season, we pretty much did as well as we could possibly do. Based on my previous experiences, the Championship is one of the hardest leagues to get out off, so I fully expect to stay here for a few seasons now that we had a rapid rise up to it. I just hope we start to get in some money as the facilities are starting to sorely lack upgrades now. I still get in some talented players, but I think we've almost reached a plateau for now. Perhaps the improved reputation will help though. FA Cup: We beat Mansfield, Barrow, and Middlesbrough before we lost to Manchester City in the 4th round. Carabao Cup: We lost to Watford in the 1st round. EFL Trophy: We got a group with Port Vale, Fleetwood, and Aston Villa u21. We finished 2nd and qualified for the knockout rounds. There we beat Crewe, Salford, Notts County, and Chesterfield to reach the final. There we beat Lincoln City to claim the trophy! Best players from the academy: Rakeem Hughes-Mason 26e - Not as good as last year, but still our leading man up front. Kyle McLean 28b - Mostly 2nd choice left back, but had an amazing season and slowly got more and more starts. Some incredible assists too! Jason Fitzgerald 27g - A strong season from our main goalkeeper. New club records: Most clean sheets in a season - Jason Fitzgerald 27g - 14 clean sheets No new upgrades accepted this season. U18s They won the U18 Youth Alliance League North-West this season. FA Youth Cup: They beat Huddersfield, Wrexham, and Reading before they lost to Aston Villa in the 4th round. U18 Youth Alliance Cup: They drew Bradford City, Blackpool, Tranmere, and Notts County in the group stage and finished 1st to qualify for the knockout rounds. There they beat Barnsley and Rochdale to reach the final. There they lost on pens to Morecambe.
