Craig_R.U.F.C
Hi there guys I just wanted to see what you all think on the next laptop I should get and what is the best to run FM with. I am looking to buy a new laptop for a while now I have had this one for just over a year but the thing is it doesn't run FM as fast as I would love it to do. Here is a link to the current specs and laptop I have right now: http://uk.msi.com/product/nb/CX705MX.html#/?div=Specification It's not too bad when it's not running a game but soon as I run games its kind of slow. Now, I am not an expert with this stuff so I would love help on what is the best stuff needed and what components are needed to run games? I look at laptops and think O.K I need one with good RAM and good Gh'z. Not too sure on the graphics card though if that one is good enough which is proving it is not right now. I really need something to run FM faster and while I play FM to run other things such as music, movies and just general internet or software programs. While with this one I currently run FM and Youtube it's kind of slow and makes either one lag. Right now on FM this is what I choose: England(down to L2) Italy(Serie A) Spain(La Liga) Medium DB = 16,000 players. Computer Performance = 2-2.5 Stars(usually changes for some reason) Game Speed(2.5-3 stars) Does not get 3 stars much though) As you can see I am not running ALOT of leagues or stuff and the stars are so low. I see people running 30k+ players and managing to maintain a good star rate. I really need help on choosing the right laptop in the future. Money wise I have around 400-500 to spend on a new one. All I need is help on the best possible and just a bit of help on what graphics card, processor, RAM etc is the best to run FM and then I can go and look for stuff off that.. Hope someone can help me on this would really be appreciated. Thank you.
Wakers
Does it have to be a laptop? If so, either of these will do for you - option 1 only if you're not planning on playing other games; http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Packard_Bell_EasyNote_TS11_1171576.html http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_G570_1189692.html
Craig_R.U.F.C
Cheers for the quick reply and immediate suggestions I will go and have a look at those right now. But for your question I have really though about a PC also and I could go down that route but I never had a PC before and comfortable with laptops but like I said this does not mean I wouldn't welcome a PC. Welshace
wakers second choice there is a superb suggestion tbh the processor is great as far as fm and multitasking is concerned... I have a laptop with the same one. and with 6gm ram and a decent dedicated graphics card.. you'd be set. the price is brilliant too frankly you can get this for the same price too though: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750G_1152341.html more ram, 250gb less HDD but a better graphics card for gaming

Silly me didn't notice the second one in mine only had 6GB of RAM (which is a useless size, it needs to be 4 or 8), as I had set it to exclude everything but 4 or 8, which apparently didn't work! Craig_R.U.F.C
Very hard choices indeed with those laptops all looking good spec wise! Really like the one Welshace posted up the most right now though. I looked at this one also, could anyone tell me if this is any good? I was looking for a 17' screen which is what I currently have: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_TravelMate_7750_1219635.html http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_G770_1189696.html http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_305E7A_1192059.html http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_300E7A_1192055.html Do any of those stand out for you at all? Romanista.
the stars dont mean much. on my previous laptop my star was only 0.5/5 yet it ran reasonably well with 9-11 leagues loaded through 4-5 countries.
GazTheDoood
Hi, now I don't mean to hijack the thread but i've a related question and it seems pointless starting a new one. Which of these two laptops is better, in your opinion? http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750G_1152341.html#DetailTop http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_15.6_HD_Ci7-2670QM_6GB_750GB_DVD_6-cell_CAM_WiFi__GT540M_LX.RPX02.037/version.asp One of those is already mentioned on this page. Also, if you could, can you explain to me the difference in graphics cards? And why 6GB of RAM is deemed pointless?
judicious
I've read and heard that some of the Acer's have issues with overheating so maybe keep that in mind
Wakers
I've read and heard that some of the Acer's have issues with overheating so maybe keep that in mind You can't single out one manufacturer. There are various models across all manufacturers that have various issues.
judicious
You can't single out one manufacturer. There are various models across all manufacturers that have various issues. Of course not but would it be wrong to say Acer's build quality isn't quite as good as say Asus'?
Wakers
Of course not but would it be wrong to say Acer's build quality isn't quite as good as say Asus'? Yes, it would. It's better to look at it as build quality improves across all brands as you go up in price. £400 laptop? Build quality isn't going to be stunning, regardless of brand. £800 laptop? Build quality is going to be good across all brands. There will be slight variations from brand to brand, but the argument I see often is "Oh, this Acer that I bought for £400 is built like crap, so this £1000 laptop that you're talking about will be the same". While with this one I currently run FM and Youtube it's kind of slow and makes either one lag. Then in an ideal world you'd have an i7 quad core processor in your new laptop. That's one thing I've learned recently after receiving feedback on here in another laptop thread, as well on a few computer forums. FM is not able to use each core, but quad core comfortably copes with any multi-tasking you'll do. That was the main appeal for me due to wanting to do other stuff while playing FM. I'd recommend possibly doing research on the Clevo models re-branded at www.pcspecialist.co.uk - Superb value but apparently some Clevos have good build qualities & cooling systems while others do not. I myself have been considering a Clevo P170EM (branded as Vortex III on that site) after reading mainly good things about it. I don't know anything about the other models listed, nor do I know your budget, but just thought it was worth mentioning Clevos.

You should also be fine with an i5 in a laptop for multi-tasking. It's 2 physical cores but also 2 virtual cores. The game can use the 2 physical cores and the OS / other programs can use the other two. Obviously an i7 is better, but not everyone has the budget for that. Craig_R.U.F.C
Looking at PC's now. Come round this one. Would this be decent enough for FM? I am looking at other ones this person makes. http://www.amazon.co.uk/QUAD-CORE-GAMING-COMPUTER-DRIVE/dp/B005Z2HX44/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1344187522&sr=1-
Wakers
It's not bad Craig, but it's hardly a "gaming" computer, if that's what you're after.
Craig_R.U.F.C
Well I mean I will have about 300-400 to spend on a PC. I need something which will let me do FM quite fast and able to multi task at the same time. FM is the only game I really play on my Laptop and that's all I want to play. I want to have something which will let me multitasking with no problems.
ongy2k3
Just a note, those machines that Amazon seller is offering don't come with Windows, so that's something else to factor into price along with keyboard, mouse & display cables.
Welshace
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750G_1152341.html get that mate... you'll struggle to find a better deal... even on desktops right now.. you'll find better.. but once you add in a monitor, windows, mouse etc.. it'll be similar.. and that will multitask like a dream, play fm like a dream and its portable... cant go wrong
Wakers
Well I mean I will have about 300-400 to spend on a PC. I need something which will let me do FM quite fast and able to multi task at the same time. FM is the only game I really play on my Laptop and that's all I want to play. Craig_R.U.F.C
I currently have a keyboard which I can use until I get more money and I found a monitor for about 70 pounds. I have 60 pound credit from Amazon anyway, so whatever price of a desktop is just take 60 off it, or I can put that money towards getting Windows 7 if I go for one of those computers from OCHW.
Wakers
Then one of those will be fine for the price. Just double check the seller reputation and everything first. It'll be more powerful than the laptop someone just posted for you to look at.
Craig_R.U.F.C
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007PEI588/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers I been looking even more and I seen this one also, you can change the style type from i5 to i3 and it comes out at different prices and whatever. I was recommended this one by a friend and was told it's a lot better than what I have right now. Would you agree the specs are better than a Intel Celaron, 2.0ghz and 4gb RAM(what I have now) If so I could end up getting that instead. It's between this or OCHW's. Wakers
It's better than what you have now, but it has no dedicated graphics card. So even for FM it won't be that great (if you want 3D). If it had a graphics card it would be much better than the other because the processor is vastly superior.
Craig_R.U.F.C
Any idea on what a good graphics card would be? Would an Nvidia be good enough? I am free most of the day so going to use today as a shop around day try and find the best one.
Wakers
ATi 6670 or an Nvidia 550 are good starters. Should be cheap enough, won't let you run into any issues when it comes to video playback.
Craig_R.U.F.C
Brilliant. Thanks ever so much for your consistent help. I will get back to you with whatever I managed to find and thanks for all the info you have helped me know more about this kind of stuff. Much appreciated.
