trekman
Ona sidenote, can someone explain the difference between Vista and 7? And what benefits each will bring? Not sure of all the differences but I do believe that its not so memory intensive as vista currently is.

JakeSmallman
Yh. 7 is a much smaller program than vista so it dosen't run in background like vista does. vista is always processing in the background.
gaz da man 2004
windows 7 was origionally ment to be released not vista however they hit snags and released vista as a stop gap
jags4ever
Look on Vista as a beta version of Windows 7 , 7 is much faster and less processor and memory intensive. Been on the RC1 for ages and I like it better than Vista and XP. Hell ive even purchased an upgrade for this
baker.simon
So if i was to get windows 7, would it be less intensive on a computer with a spec of 2gb ram and 2ghz processor? Or is it mainly useful in optomising higher end machines? If its less intensive on those 2 specs i may consider getting an upgrade.

Sounds promising, i tend not to know much about computers, just how to use them... sort of lol. Is it easy to install?
rancer890
If you recently bought a new laptop or desktop, you might be eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. So you should check where you bought your laptop/desktop to see if you are eligible. I know I am.

bardock
I read an article about it not too long ago. Apparently not only is it smaller (taking up less HDD space) and requiring less RAM, it's supposed to do a better job of utilizing dual/quad cores. Management
I'm getting a call when the distributor gets it... I only found out about windows 7 when I brought my GF a new laptop a couple of months ago... I didn't tell her though... Gonna keep it for myself
SellOn_Clause
Sounds promising, i tend not to know much about computers, just how to use them... sort of lol. Is it easy to install? Yes it was. I highly recommend Windows 7. I've not had any problems with it and it uses a lot less RAM than Vista ever did. EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm on the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (don't worry FM and all your favourite apps still work fine) so I have the ability to add a lot more RAM in the future (my motherboard supports up to 8 GB apparently).
