The 'Oceanic 15' - A Journeyman Career

Background

I know, it sounds like a group of people from a bad movie about a plane crash - but I assure you, it isn't.

The initial aim of this save will be to collect the top prize in each of the Oceanic Nations that come as part of Claassen's brilliant league update.

I'll start with zero rep, zero badges and zero playing history.

Let's see where I land eh?

I'll have all 15 of the Oceanic leagues loaded.

The Oceanic '15'

Season 1 - Henderson Eels

image.png.9ff7a021155fb9ceafa74ab233ec9d17.png

So here I start, with no staff, no money, no players, just an ambition to win the league and hopefully in the process qualify for the OFC Champions League.

I'm on 150 pounds a week, which I guess is a fair bit of Solomon Islands in the Telekom S-League.

The club wants to avoid finising bottom and you know what I think I can deliver that.

EDIT: Scratch that, it would seem they want to finish bottom!

This has the makings of something great.

Lmao at the board wanting to finish bottom. :idiot:

Did you check "add players to playable teams," by the way? I would suggest doing so.

I didn't as I didn't want a team full of regens to start with.

You'll see soon how I pulled my squad together :)

Konofilla, Kakai and Lekezoto look like they might be able to make an impact this season while the others will be a bit of work.

I don't know about Golden Generation but hopefully this will start to build some depth.

'Halfway Heroes'... or not...

It's been a rough start to life in the Solomons with the majority of my squad being made up of ex-internationals and only just before the game against Guadalcanal (the second matchup that is), a peppering of some youth in some key places. Konofilla is slotting nicely into the centre of midfield with Kakai starting on the left side of defence. Lekezoto hasn't had a chance yet to move into the starting line-up, but he'll be looking to make an impact off the bench.

The weird thing is that at the moment we either win big or lose while scoring. There's no inbetween. I think that comes down to a bollocks defence and a less than stellar goalkeeper, but I think we can do alright and push through this difficulty.

Rough start, hopefully you can string some results together.

I asked about adding players to playable teams with the assumption the AI would struggle to fill their squads out. Seems it's gone... alright?

Yeah, most of the clubs had players.

And now with the youth intakes, they're flush with players.

The 'Oceanic 15' Season 1 Wrap Up

Henderson Eels FC

The Run Home

image.thumb.png.ff87444d46a78c73bc09ee2d2c666d35.png

Was this the same team in the first half of the season? It's almost like the youngsters added a breath of fresh air into the side, and competition for places saw improved performances as we tweaked a tried and tested 4-4-2 after earlier dabbling in a 4-3-3 narrow. Joe Luwi took home the golden boot in the S-League with 16 goals and Godwin Bebeu was not far behind him either as they formed a deadly partnership on the return front. Still we won 6 of our final 7 games and very nearly got ourselves into the OFC Champions League.

Had we won that game against Solomon Warriors, we might have even been staring down the title in the final round.

Final Table

image.thumb.png.79b232c5c9ea279603f1c0bb4c463723.png

Boy we got lucky. Three points away from the title in my maiden year. So close but yet so far. At the end of the day, the three losses at the beginning of the season cost us dearly, as we may have otherwise romped home with the title. Instead...

image.thumb.png.6f6e3403dcc34965aba267bfeaa3556f.png

Guadalcanal could have won the league, but dropped to a 0-1 loss against the bottom placed Kakamora on the final day.

The lads

image.thumb.png.e7fb10ca2bf2136bbd3c447d2ff7481a.png

As you can see, 25 goals from our two strikers got us to where we were but we need to plug tight the defence. Lekezoto is looking like he'll challenge for one of the two starting spots with two goals off the bench in his limited time offered. In desperate need of a quality goalkeeper however, with none of the three I have really offering much in the way of protection.

Money, Money Money...

image.thumb.png.85c36904f624ff5d9c60f6363562aa70.png

We're pretty flush for cash (if you can be in this league) and hope that with eventual qualification for the OFC Champions League, that bank balance will swell, allowing us to scout outside of the Solomon Islands for recruits.

Also... money comes in...

Preseason

Season 2 - Henderson Eels FC

image.thumb.png.d8f4f43892d4c8513dae441542aed733.png

As you can see, some considerable damage has been done to our lineup, with a lot of player poaching. I have faith that our next batch of youngsters can step up and with players like Lekezoto scoring regularly in the pre-season we might just have some raw talent of our own.

image.thumb.png.d5205904a515e1f31216a31e7ca14828.png

Another money making pre-season, although you can see the form dip just as we started to lose all our players. We had a league comp that garnered some cash called Bash in the Solomons. Might do it every year, for a bit of a laugh.

image.thumb.png.aaa2961c3f849dba959ba8e8949a31f0.png

Wayne and Keni are perhaps the only real shining lights in this group, although Omori could probably do a job for us at right back.

I tell you what they love throwing the term 'Golden Generation' around loosely don't they?

Halfway Heroes... Perhaps.

image.thumb.png.2e7d7e9c63c1654c8f88387ef770536e.png

image.thumb.png.7570de722106b39f44febb90cf742631.png

Arguably our best result so far was an 4-3 away win against Solomon Warriors however perhaps the pleasing sign has been Paul Lekezoto's sizzling form this year. Just gotta hope the big sides don't poach him at seasons end.

Ideally, want to finish in second at the very least so that way we can take home some prize money from the OFC Champions League.

The 'Oceanic 15' Season 2 Wrap Up

The Run Home

image.thumb.png.d585f97622518ef98c32a0123bfe81b5.png

Well that turned to rubbish. We lose our final five games and go from first to fifth. The board are still happy but no doubt we're in for another long off-season of poaching. Speaking of poaching, this is what we had to deal with!

image.thumb.png.8e2cae84761dfb1b6272b42e705f18b7.png

Final Table

image.thumb.png.a606a0bf389621dee65d903ca0bee5ad.png

Nine points off. I'm not happy. Even with the competition expanding to nine teams (which has led to Kolale being very busy in the transfer market), we've still managed to crumble under the weight of lack of competition. Solomon Warriors pick up another title and their first from a while.

The lads

image.thumb.png.d7b39b913049ae971b4d91fe26dbe411.png

Lekezoto is proving time and time again his worth, with another 15 goals this season in 16 games. I'm seriously concerned though, that like Godwin Bebeu he will go to another club and score multitudes of goals against us. That said, he is a NT prospect, with 4 U20 caps and 1 U20 goal. Rande was also solid, and our youth players that came through also did admirably despite the situation.

Money, Money Money...

image.thumb.png.bc84aaa4fdb50e2e8abc42b2e73569d9.png

The season adds another 25-odd thousand dollars to the kitty.

Sadly though, another off-season will mean we'll struggle for cash a little bit.

The Board...

Strangely, they seem happy to keep me on. I'll be honest though, if the Solomon Warriors or Marist Fire jobs open up I'll definitely be keen. I want to be able to put players on PT contracts and not amateur contracts.

I did a thing.

Long story short, I can come back to the Solomons later, but with Southern United, I think I have a better chance of getting some much needed silverware and a first national title under my belt. Allowing me to put players on real contracts naturally has a benefit!

Preseason

image.thumb.png.a0a15e2463e9fb9e6f7b830fbf2b580c.png

Pretty solid money making pre-season, that in no way indicates how I'm going to go this season.

image.thumb.png.951b5e540168f3a841e4b9f1123cc482.png

A lot of those are youth signings made by my Assistant Manager Paul Ifill, of Wellington Phoenix fame.

Super keen to start the season, you may also noticed Lekezoto and Bebeu have moved to the land of the long white cloud.

Well that lasted... not.

Six games into my tenure. 2 draws and 4 losses.

All against the top sides, I wasn't even given a chance.

It didn't help that I had some ****** - who I ended up releasing - causing discontent in the dressing room but I guess it was always going to be too late. They wanted results straight away and they won't get them.

That said, Solomon Warriors are offering their manager slot... Could be worth a gander.

Declined..

And finally approved...

image.thumb.png.cc360dea3f227945aff50de77cabb4ab.png

So, I'm not good enough for the second place team in the Solomons, nor the worst team in New Zealand, but hey, five-times champions of New Zealand come knocking? I'll take it.

Another money making pre-season, although for the first time we've actually  won all the way through it.

Some solid results there, and hopefully we can continue onto the season.

Ins and outs

Finally, a wage budget I can work with - four times what I was working with at Southern!

It's allowed me to bring in some quality foreign talent in the midfield, and also bring home Brotherson - who has been plying his trade overseas.

image.thumb.png.2005fae8eb8f40a5104e34e4067945ea.png

Unbelievable start to the season. We've gone undefeated in eight games! Of course we still sit behind the leaders Auckland City, but with the requirements being that finish in the top four for a shot at the title - by gosh I'll take it.

image.thumb.png.186cf288c8f0fe8860d9882f8c18a567.png

And I'll take that thank you very much!

Plus with some space in the bank, and with my regular GK and wing backs out, I've gone shopping!

Meet Oumar Magassouba...

Finals Bound!

image.thumb.png.cadb040909bc8b85fe96fdd0af7813e0.png

Almost had a typical Dev'o-esque back end of the season - I swear it's down to the trouble causers in the team.

Y'know the one's who want to leave?

... only to want to re-sign when the goings good...

image.thumb.png.9b49b3ba1e7c6f02c638cd1bd07da20d.png

Still, we sneak into the finals in Third Place.

Here's how our players have fared thus far.

And now onto the finals...

So it all leads to a do-or-die match against our bogie club Canterbury United, whom I'd turned down last year for Southern United, believe it or not.

Safe to say the nerves were there.

But at the hardest of times, the boys showed up.

CHAMPIONS!

image.thumb.png.1f44e95b07cc97039a5581ddf33d46e7.png

"Campione, Campione, Ole Ole Ole"

We did it. I cannot bloody believe it.

Dongo and Clark both showed up and with it we snared quite possibly the most unlikely of wins.

Holding out in that last half an hour was scary as hell, but now I can add the Premiership in New Zealand to the Tally board.

The next goal

Okay, so now that I've secured the NZ title, I could go elsewhere, but I could also nail the creme de la resistance.

That is, the OFC Champions League.

To do so I will need to stay with Waitakere and hopefully not get sacked.

Pressure, pressure.

But I thrive under pressure.

Pre Season

Don't really care much for the Charity Cup but other than that, a successful money making pre-season.

Too bad our loan repayments are up the wazoo.

But, there is good news on the horizon with a takeover that will wipe our $2m debt coming soon potentially.
