Manager's Thoughts

Well I am really glad that my travelling spell is over for the time being considering every game was away from home! The big news of the month is that we beat Extremadura 3-2 to move onto the fourth round of the Copa del Rey which means more money for us and it is contested of two legged affairs! As for the league,we picked up five points from four games. The only game where we actually deserved something was the Amorebieta game where we narrowly won.We were beaten by the better side against Fuenlabrada, battered against Barakaldo and I'm not even sure how we walked out with a point against Ponferradina who are still unbeaten in the league.A bit of come down after previous months but we are way above the relegation playoff spot!

For November,we have five league games to play and most importantly for me is that some of them are home ties!We actually have home ties against Arandina,Toledo,Bilbao Ath. and Izara.I honestly believe we can beat Bilbao Ath. and Izara as they are two of the team struggling in the league,as for Arandina and Toledo, they will both be tough games but I think we can at least snatch a point from these games. The only away game for the month sees us travel to Castilla who are the last of the top four we will face in the first half of the season which I am grateful for as I am not holding my breath about getting anything from that game!

Manager's Thoughts

An excellent month saw us pick up twelve points from fifteen as we pushed ourselves back into a playoff place and we are only four points behind the leaders Alaves. The scorelines reflected the games as we easily disposed of Bilbao Ath. and more surprisingly Arandina while we found it tough going against Toledo and Izarra but that was four wins at home and money for the coffers. The away game against Castilla saw us outclassed but we couldn't hold out for a point as Castilla left it late to clinch victory. The most worrying news from this month is that Ajax have become interested in Diez and Artola who were my top two youth candidates from last season!

Five games to play in December before we have a small break. We have a two legged affair as we play La Liga side Rayo in the 4th round of the Copa del Rey,if it was a one round affair then I'd fancy my chances but it's not so I am less optimistic. As for the league,we face Atletico B,Arenas Club and Puerta Bonita.Atletico B will be the toughest of the league opposition but it says a lot for how we are doing as they are the last of the top half teams we have to face.Myself and the Arenas Club manager hate each other so we will be looking to win so I can rub it in.As for Puerta Bonita, they are the team who are bottom and are struggling, they were promoted like ourselves last season but have not managed to adapt. My aims for this month is to be competitive against Rayo and six points in the league.

Shame you got Rayo and not one of the big Madrid clubs :D Which reminds me, haven't done a Rayo save for years, must do it at one point :D

Going well in the league there but not too sure going up would be a good thing this soon in a youth challenge on this FM with the way the boards are in it as soon as you struggle :D

Link to post

Well if we do some how get past Rayo then there is the possibility of facing Atletico Madrid :D That's the main reason I'd be happy with 5th - 15th this season as it will give me a bit of time to develop the players and not annoy trigger happy chairmen!

I do have England loaded as well,so if I do get promoted then sacked then I'll just start at the lowest point in either nation and carry on as youth only.

Manager's Thoughts

That was an absolutely brilliant month as we picked up maximum points in the league and knocked La Liga side Rayo out of the Copa del Rey.We were lucky in the home tie against Rayo as we drew 1-1 but the away leg saw us perform much better and we attacked from the off as the game finished 3-3 and 4-4 on aggregate which meant we went through on the away goal!In the game against Atletico B,we got lucky as we were never at the races and Atletico B really should have got something out of the game but brilliant keeping from Diez saw us clinch 3 points. As for the Arenas Club and Puerta Bonita games, they were both really easy and I guess they were already on holiday as we finished the month 2nd in the league, just one point behind Ponferradina.

January sees us play the two biggest games of our history as we have a double header against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey which will see us probably get knocked out!We also have five league games so it is a very busy month,we face off against Tudelano,Alaves,La Virgen,Real Sociedad B and Sestao River. My aim from these games is to beat La Virgen and Real Sociedad B as they are both home games, draws against Tudelano and Sestao River will be acceptable while I don't really care about the result against Alaves as we either get something or we don't as they are a really good team at this level. So 8 points from the league games and not to embarrass ourselves in the Copa del Rey are good aims for this month.

John1 - Thanks mate :D I am pretty much out of the Copa del Rey as Atletico won the first leg 3-1!

deltablue - We seem to be on course for a playoff spot,it would be easier but I have my doubts of getting top spot.

Manager's Thoughts

Well we crashed out of the Copa del Rey with a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Atletico,I consider only conceding six an achievement as we were really outclassed, the plus side of the defeat is that we actually have money as we currently have £577k in the bank which is pretty amazing considering how much we had this time last year. For the league, the game against Real Sociedad B got postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and will now be played in February,we won three of the matches in games against Tudelano,La Virgen and Sestao River. The games against Tudelano and La Virgen saw confident performances and quality finish to give us the points but the game against Sestao River was a case of better quality of possession rather than quantity as they had the most but we finished better.Despite losing to Alaves 2-0,we are still in a playoff spot with a game in hand so it looks like we are in a good position going into the final part of the season.

February sees us play five league games as we face Real Sociedad B,Guadalajara,Amorebieta,Fuenlabrada and Real Union.I honestly believe we can beat Real Soicedad B,Guadalajara and Amorbieta as they are for me the easier of the teams so I will aim to win these games.Real Union are the draw specialists of the division so I wouldn't be surprised to see us draw that game like we did in September.Fuenlabrada is the most difficult game of the month as they are in fifth chasing a playoff spot but we do have home advantage so it is pretty hard to see how it will turn out but we will need to do our best to ensure we remain a playoff spot.We are doing very well but compared to our expectations but it's best not to get carried away at this point.

Manager's Thoughts

Well we picked up 9 points which was a good return from this month as we are still firmly in a playoff spot.We easily won the Real Sociedad B game and could have had more if it was not for poor finishing,we then had a two week break due to postponed games both of which were due to waterlogged pitch. The break was handy for us as we beat Guadalajara 3-0 in another comfortable victory. The game against Fuenlabrada saw us fight hard but in the end come up short as we lost 3-2.The Amorebieta game was a easy as well,we really should have scored more than three as well, the only reason why they scored was that it was from a offside position and even then it need help from the post to go in!The Real Union game was rather annoying as we were the better team but failure to convert our chances meant that we finished the game with nothing instead of at least getting a point. With 9 games left and a 8 point lead,it is going to go down to the wire.

March brings us the most important thing,it is the annual youth candidate day and I will be hoping for strikers, central defenders and a left back as that will give us a pretty solid team.As for fixtures,we play four games in which we lock horns against Barakaldo,Arandina,Toledo and Ponferradina. We should get positive results against Barakaldo and Arandina as they are the weaker of the four teams.Toledo will be a tough game but we have a huge point gap over them as we are 18 points ahead of them,I honestly believe we can get something from the game. Not too bothered about the Ponferradina game as they are by far the strongest team and I will give it my all,I believe we can at least snatch a point as we have home advantage.Hopefully I can finish the month still 8 points ahead of 5th place as that will nearly guarantee us a playoff spot.

The Candidates

GernikaClubYouthCandidates_SquadPlayers_zps182564fe.png

Hot Prospects

Mikel Talledo - Report

Gaizka Sola - Report

Manager's Thoughts

Two stand out performers who can slot into the first team in Talledo and Sola (Not my son!),they also play in two vital areas as one is striker and the other is a defender which is useful as one of my defenders he would be replacing is 35!Talledo is already 2nd best striker in the team so he should be able to play up front with Zaradona. We have a lot of players who seem to have high potential but low ability so it may be worth asking the board to upgrade junior coaching as well as youth facilities so they will be at least on par with the training facilities. Also seeing the potential on these players is a worry as we don't have coaches so that is something I need to look at in pre-season as more coaches could help with development.Talledo and Sola will go into first team once I have signed them to pre-contracts.

Manager's Thoughts

It was great to see us pick up ten points from the four games in March as we finished the month in 2nd place with a nine point lead over 5th.We were give a hard battle against Barakaldo as we fought to a 2-1 victory before we destroyed Arandina. The game against Toledo was not as close as the score line suggested as we were the much better side but our finishing let us down but we still managed to clinch the three points even if the last few minutes were nervy. The game against Ponferradina was a mixed bag,I was pleased with our attacking and it was great to see Talledo net his first two goals for the club but I was annoyed with the fact that we bottled it as we blew a 2-0 and 3-1 lead as we dropped two points due to stupid mistakes in defence.Despite this,we stayed in 2nd and we are almost guaranteed a playoff spot.

April is a quiet month as we play three games,we face off against Castilla,Bilbao Ath. and Atletico B.Castilla is the toughest of three games and it will be difficult to get anything from the game but we do have home advantage which is a plus.We should beat Bilbao Ath. who are really struggling down the bottom so it would be great to put them under more pressure.I want to beat Atletico B to make myself feel slightly better considering the hidings we took against their main team,we have home advantage so I believe we can get something from the game.Six points is my aim from this month and that should almost guarantee us a playoff spot which is way above what I was expecting.

Manager's Thoughts

The perfect month as we picked up maximum points as well as the month of hat-tricks.Luis Artola hit a stunning hat-trick from midfield in our shock 3-0 win,Castilla did have two goals disallowed as well so it was a lot more nervy than the scoreline suggested. We then easily destroyed Bilbao Ath. 6-0 with a hat-trick from Talledo, this game also my other two strikers Zaradona and Idarramendi get on the scoreline. We then fished the month off by beat Atletico B 6-1 which incidentally is the aggregate scoreline Atletico beat us in the Copa del Rey!The star of the match was Talledo who netted four goals while Idarramendi got the other two.I originally tried Talledo out as an Advanced forward but he seems to be doing a lot better playing as a poacher so that is where he will remain for the rest of the season.

There are two more games to play in the league stage before the playoffs. We face off against Izarra and Arenas Club.Needless to say that I will not be holding back in either game and I will field my strongest possible team.Izarra have a chance of falling into the relegation playoff spot while Arenas Club are pretty much doomed so we should have the quality to beat both teams. As for the playoffs,I have no idea who we will face and no idea what to expect so it's a case of we'll wait and see.

john1 - I think we can survive next season but we are probably looking at a minimum of five season floating around the bottom half/midtable.

DazRTaylor - Cheers fella :D

Dexter_Morgan - Not too far off what I was thinking :D I'll be trying to get Junior Coaching and Youth facilities upgraded first.

deltablue - The most important thing is the money we will receive next season which will help massively.

Manager's Thoughts

For the league campaign,I was disappointed in the victory over Izarra in which we made several errors in defence and left it late to clinch a 4-3 victory. The final game of the season saw us comfortable beat Arenas Club 3-0 in which Talledo netted a brace as we finished the season in 2nd.It was then onto the nightmare know as playoffs, two hard fought games saw us edge past Castilla with a 4-2 aggregate victory which was a relief as they kept pressing in both games as time ran out but we held on.For the 2nd phase 1st round,we played Llagostera and we pretty much clinched it with a 3-1 away victory in the first leg,we kept our professionalism as we on 2-0 in the 2nd leg to secure a 5-1 aggregate victory. The final playoff tie saw us play Racing, both matches were brutal and I honestly thought we were going to lose but we kept playing till the whistle as both games saw late equalizers to secure a away goal victory over Racing and gain promotion.

It is great to see them turn as well.I tend to use more clauses and keep the wages lower, another couple of season then some of the better youngsters will probably be at around £300 p.w which is something I can handle if they are first team players.

Gernika Club - Segunda Division B Grupo 2 - End of Season - 2015/16

2015/16 Tranfers

Gabilondo,Zarate and Carbonell all left on a free transfer after there contract expired.Telletxea,Villar,Pascual and Casado left as they were given better non contracts elsewhere, not that I will miss them as they were never going to make it.

Competitions

Segunda Division B Grupo 2

League Table

Castilla v Gernika - eg 1 - Leg 2,Llagostera v Gernika - Leg 1 - Leg 2,Racing v Gernika - Leg 1 - Leg 2

It was a pretty phenomenal season as we stunned everyone, the media, the fans and myself as well as we finished 2nd in the league and got promoted,we finished with 88 points which was enough to win the title the season before. We also set a new record for goals scored as my players love the 4-3-3 system we play, chances are created and finished with this formation and even the less technically gifted can score in this formation. We may not be the best defensively but if we can score more than the opposition then I have no complaints! As for the playoffs,we played Castilla in the first round in which it was quite close but squandered chances by ourselves nearly cost us as we hung onto a 4-2 aggregate victory. The games against Llagostera were much more comfortable as we ran out 5-1 aggregate winners in what I can say was our easiest playoff tie.The final playoff tie saw us face off against Racing and I honestly think they learnt that it ain't over as late goals which were equalizers sent us up on away goals,as they saying goes,it ain't over till the fat lady sings!Bring on Liga Adelante!!

Copa del Rey

5th Round

It was a very good cup run in our first attempt in the Copa del Rey.We easily beat R.Cantabria 3-0 in the first round before thrashing Guadalajara 4-0 in the second round which meant we reached my expectations. In the 3rd round we were up against Extremadura and it was a hard fought game which we just about edged as we ran out 3-2 winners. The 4th round was the first of the two legged affairs as we were up against La Liga side Rayo,we drew the home leg 1-1 before I decided to go all out in the 2nd leg in a game which we drew 3-3,this meant we went through on away goals after a 4-4 draw on aggregate. As for the 5th round, there is nothing to say about either leg as Atletico Madrid totally outclassed us and we were lucky to keep it down to 6-1 on aggregate.

Manager's Thoughts

Well this season was both surprising and sensational as we somehow gained promotion at first attempt, whether it is too soon or not it is too early to tell but we will give it our all in the near future. We have quite a good young foundation laid with some of the players coming through but we do need better quality if we are to easily survive next season. There is a good spine of the team which is forming in Diez-Sola-Artola-Talledo which will be a solid spine in the future,as long as we get other young players coming through and develop we will have a good team in about five seasons time.We also had a good run in the Copa del Rey in which we reached the 5th round which wasn't bad for our first attempt.Time to kick on from next season to show that we can compete in Liga Adelante.

We are having a stadium expansion which will take our stadium to 6000 but until it's finished in April 2017,we will be playing at Alaves ground which holds 19200 so it will probably be pretty empty when we play! We've had our junior coaching increased so it's not average so it is improving slowly. We do not have enough money at the moment so we'll probably have to wait till the end of next season before we can start upgrading the other facilities. We only have £608k in the bank but that is projected to reach £1.39 million by the end of next season which is a major plus,no changes in regards to sponsorship and it will be quite a while before they change as we still have three years left on the current deal,as we are a regional side now,the next sponsorship should be a lot bigger.Time to roll on next season where we can hopefully prove we belong in the 2nd tier.

Gernika Club - Liga Adelante - Pre-Season - 2016/17

Club Information - Facilities - Board Overview - Confidence - Finances

Pre-Season Transfer

Just the one player leaving in the window,he was never the best but I will applaud his contribution to the team, played 28 times, scored 4 goals. He was never going to be a world beater but I will acknowledge the effort he put in.

Pre-Season Fixtures

865f41ab-4fd2-488e-9133-ee6301b9ed31_zps42b8d72f.png

A proper mixed bag of results so who knows what will happen,I'm going to ignore the matches anyway as the assistant manager was in charge and he is pretty useless although I am happy to see he beat Arenas Club as my hatred for them runs deep!

The Team

Tactic A - Tactic B

Key Players

Mikel Diez - GK

Andoni Alonso - M/AMC

Inaki Zarandona - AMRC,STC

Mikel Talledo - AMC,STC

Well you know you have a weak team when three of your key players are all under 18 years old.Mikel Diez will be the number one keeper for a while until a better keeper who will hopefully have better physicals comes through.Alonso may not be the best technically but he puts everything into the game, that is the main reason why he is one of the key players as he gives it his all and that will be important this season. As for Zaradona,he needs no explanation as he has 69 goals in the last two seasons so hopefully he can do the same at this level.Talledo is a brilliant young striker who can easily do it at this level,as long as he gets the opportunity to score then he will do so.This season will mainly be down to Zaradona and Talledo if we are to survive as they will need to score a lot of goals.

Manager's

Well after pre-season has been and done,we are starting to look like a proper football club as we now have backroom staff which will help massively with the training as we do have a lot of players who seem to have high potential, the only thing we really lack are wingers, strikers and goalkeepers,if we had these then we'd have a good solid squad for the future. Not too bothered by the pre-season results as the assistant took charge and as I mentioned earlier,he is useless so we will find out where we stand when the season kicks off.If we are going by comparisons then we will be near the bottom as we are rather low on all abilities.I don't think I will be sacked as it said attempt to avoid relegation but I will give it my all to survive. We are expected to reach the 2nd round of the Copa del Rey which is not fine by me as we enter at the stage so I want us to do better!

At the moment, the finances are not looking too bad as we are in a positive and are projected to have £1.9 million by the end of the season which should allow us to start upgrading the facilities which is the way we need to go.We are currently ground sharing with Alaves but I don't expect to fill it what so ever,I would guess our attendances will probably be in the region of 3000-4000 for the most part but it should help bring money in to the club. Not much can be done on the sponsorship side of things as we still have 3 years left on it as it expires in 2019.The downside is the loan the club took out for expansion work as that may be quite annoying but it is manageable at £17.5k a month,so staying up is a must as that will help us financially.Time to rock and roll, hopefully we will survive!

Manager's Thoughts

Well it was definitely an unexpected start as we picked up seven points but there has been dodgy referee decisions in two of the games. The game against Las Palmas finished up as a draw, normally I would be happy at a draw but we were screwed over by the ref who gave a penalty decision against us when it was never a penalty so that did us in as we lost confidence and the players were getting frustrated and wound up.The Barcelona B game saw us run out 4-1 winners but it was nowhere near their strongest team as they were missing seven players through injury so that probably did have an affect, the game also saw Alberto Calle who is a right back with a finishing of 1 score twice, don't think he scoring against for a while! As for the Cadiz game,we were really lucky that they had bad luck, they couldn't finish their chances despite being the better side and we were also helped when they had a player sent off after five minutes in what I would say was a bookable offence.I am glad we have seven points on the board, just 39 points to go till safety!

For September, four league games as well as a game in the Copa del Rey as we kick off our campaign. In the league we face off against Recreativo,Valladolid,Lugo,Eibar.I can't really say anything about either of these teams as they are all in the bottom half but with it being early season, they could be facing gelling issues which we won't have as I don't sign anyone!Looking at the season pre-view,Valldolid seem to be under performing,Recreativo and Eibar seem to be around mid-table wile Lugo are predicted for 20th so they are the main team I am looking to beat as we need to win the games against the other teams struggling. In the Copa del Rey,we kick off our campaign against Lugo and it is a home fixture so I want to win it to keep moving on to help with the finances. My aim is five points from the league,as long as we keep away from the relegation zone,I will be fine.

Manager's Thoughts

Well that is the settling in period done now as the teams we faced are mainly the worse in the league looking at the table. The Copa del Rey tie against Lugo was a weird one as none of my midfield or strikers could finish their chances but three of my four defenders did as we went through with a 3-0 victory. In the league,we struggled to break Recreativo down but 1-0 was more than enough to secure victory. The game against Valladolid was annoying, their player's were really tired after going into extra time in the Copa del Rey but still managed to beat us 3-1 due to defensive errors and poor finishing. We recorded a 1-0 victory against Lugo thanks to a Martinez strike as we struggled to break them down.We finished off the month with a 2-1 victory against Eibar,we made this rather difficult on ourselves as we were reduced to ten men after 65 minutes,Eibar then piled on the pressure but failed to find an equalizer.I am pleased to have hit 16 points already which means we need 30 more for safety but we have only played the weaker teams so far.

October begins the fun and games as we face off against Sporting,Alcorcon,Numancia,Alaves and Tenerife in the league.Sporting,Numancia and Tenerife have quality players and will be the biggest problems for us so it will be pretty difficult to get anything from these games. As for Alaves,I already know about them as we were in the same division last season,if anything they have actually weakened from last season as 19 players left and only three came in so this is our best chance of getting something out of game between us.As for Alcorcon, this is a difficult one to decide on as they are a team doing better than expected,so it will be a tough call to see if we can win or draw so we must play to our best.We also play Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey,like with Alaves,we already know about them as we played them last season, they are another team who seemed to have weakened so I do fancy our chances of progressing in the cup.My aims for this month, progression in the Copa del Rey and as for the league,I will take any points that will come our way as this season is about survival.

Manager's Thoughts

Well that was a stunning month,we made progress in the Copa del Rey in which we beat Ponferradina 3-1 with Talledo scoring a brace to help send us through. We were rather lucky against Sporting as they battered us and missed a penalty as we held onto a 1-0 win,I am really glad they couldn't finish their chances. We won comfortably at Alcorcon,we probably could have won more than 2-1 but three points is three points. The game against Numancia was very boring,I certainly would have been upset if I paid to see that match.Neither team wanted to keep the ball, let alone win the game.It was a comfortable victory against Alaves but it was not secured till the 90 minutes but as I noted before, there team is much weaker than it was last season and it was pretty close then.It was a close game against Tenerife but we held onto a 2-1 win which kept us top of the table going into November.

November is a quieter month as we face four games in the league. We have two very tough games as we face Getafe and Espanyol who are both in a playoff spot, the former being managed by Roberto Mancini. These two are the toughest teams in the league so I won't be holding my breath as I like to downplay my chances quite frequently. The other two games are against Jaen and Zaragoza, both teams are pretty solid and are comfortable sitting mid-table so we will have to be at our best to avoid defeat. My aims is to accumulate some points as I want to get to 46 points as quick as possible.

Manager's Thoughts

We went through another month unbeaten and remained on top of the table but I get the feeling teams are start getting used to us as it is getting a lot more difficult for us.We had a narrow win over Zaragoxa in which we were the better team but we struggled to create anything, the game against Getafe needed an injury time winner to secure the points. We then dropped points against Jaen and Espanyol as we recorded draws against both teams,we had to come from behind against Jaen but with Espanyol,we blew the lead.As for the Osasuna game,it was dead even with 19 shots for either side and 50-50 in possession, this was one of those games which was always going to be decided by one goal.We have a four point lead and we are guaranteed to stay at top even if we lose the next game!

For December,we have two league games and two Copa del Rey games. For the Copa del Rey,we face off against Atletico Madrid again,as long as we don't lose 6-1 on aggregate I will count it as progress made as I don't believe we will get anything out of these games. In the league,we face off against Ponferradina and Gimnastic,we beat Ponferradina earlier on in the season in the Copa del Rey and I believe we can win again. As for the Gimnastic game, they are another team who are massively overachieving as they themselves were in Segunda Division B last season so it will be a battle of the overachievers so may the best team win!
