  1. Reporting a possible minor bug from the MLS for those interested:

    MLS registration:

A bit of a potential bug though:

I had a player on loan from Man.City our affiliate, after the season I got the chance to resign him. I really wanted it as he is by far the best right back in my squad. The deal was approved but then I was prompted to do squad registration. The registration is not open yet, so it seemed impossible to advance the game. I couldn't stop the transfer after I confirmed it either.

The solution: Go on holiday for 1 day, even got to keep the player.

Don't think so. Still playing the same save and seeing how far up the hall of fame i can get. Only 5 weeks ish until beta release so not much time left now. Unless u have any suggestions?

Nah 5 weeks is not so long time, but would be maybe dafuge challenge, or if you wanted to have a go at my Giant 70-challenge (requires extra leagues from classens)

But jumping up the HoF sounds like a nice idea as well ;)

Thanks mate. unfortunately the Copa America is starting this summer so best hope is I get a top job for the next one in 4 years time so will be a lot of holidaying done!!

Understand. And probably I would holiday a lot in that situation as well, but try to make the most of it, maybe scouting a h**l of a lot of players from South America to see which players you would hire. Maybe take over one of the best teams in the world and buy lots of youngsters from the nation you manage, and in that way make sure you have the best squad possible.

Anyway, good luck as I said. :)

Great work @pug 407 one more cup title shouldn't be a problem, so you just need to find a good Asian country. Hopefully the job of South Korea or Australia can open up again ;) This could be a record finish

Usually I just use it for friendlies, including international ones. However, you can get to the point where you're dominant domestically, and are staying at a club just to get the champions League, and it's definitely worth using then. I do think my results are better if I manage the team myself, but it's worth using where your team is so good, your assman's not going to muck it up, or where you don't care.

Some people pretty much holiday their way through seasons, while others micro-manage.

Another thing I use is an automatic continue game which means that you can usually get a coffee while your computer is processing the week's events.

@Fadedaf Frankly I'm running out of ways to commiserate, and think you should change your name to @Cursedaf. I was in your situation where I had to win 2 international trophies at the end of the challenge, and it took me 16 years to get the last one. I took me the first 4 of those  years to get a Asian national job.

I think when the original author of the challenge created this, he had something like this in mind. It was seen as almost impossible to complete this challenge. Then people have proven it to be fully possible, and some can even finish this very fast. But if you fall out of luck with the international titles, it takes you so much more time to complete this. It can really take a lot of your motivation to finish the challenge.

Best of luck @Fadedaf you can do this for sure ;)

Hi, I find these long term challenges really interesting, but just wonder how much time you spend playing the game? do you select the team for each match and watch the match in match engine? or do you generally go on holiday for periods of time??

whenever I play FM, I slowly plod through the game and maximum get through 5/6 seasons per version of fm

Of course each players has his own style of playing, some use skins that gives instant results, but I guess the "normal" way is to play every match that counts by yourself. Holidaying is perhaps used in times you are without a club/nation and especially tend to happen at the beginning and a late stage of the challenge. For my self I generally consider 1 season to take about 10 hours of gameplay. So considering this challenge will take 20+ seasons yow are looking at a good bit above 200 hours of actual gameplay.

The latest update has supposedly adjusted the likelihood of getting a club job when you have an international job, so I did a little experiment.

On the previous build I quit my international job in order to get the club job I wanted, (Orlando Pirates 2.5 stars). I ran the interview 3 times (as manager of Chile) and didn't get the job no matter what I said. But a few months later I did get a decent club job, (Aberdeen 3 stars), so my limited experiment suggests that having an international job still makes club jobs harder, but far from impossible.

This will be a big help in the challenge.

This was just an experiment though. I'm the manager of Orlando Pirates.

Nice to know about @vikeologist, I read also that this issue was "fixed" in the new update, but its still harder then in previous FM-versions. And I think hat is kind of good also, as not all clubs around would hire a manager who has a "double task".

I have left Mexico and is currently with Sao Paulo. Coming up is World Cup and probably some International managers getting sacked or quitting. So I guess I will take an International job, but that will be mid-season. Interesting to see what kind of club job I can get afterwards.

  8. The Earls Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

    Mexico in Gold Cup 2029

After winning the Double with PAOK twice in a row, I left the club knowing the as a manager of Mexico I could not get a new club until I resigned. Anyway it was time to get an international achievement. And for sure Mexico in Gold Cup was a given way to do this right? To top the things Gold Cup 2029 was played partially at the same time as Confederations Cup. With Mexico not winning Gold Cup for 14 years, we where not part of that competition. USA represented CONCACAF and such their B-team participated in Gold Cup. Now this must be easy right?

    Group Stage

    Spoiler

    Mexico - USA B 3-1 - S.Rodriguez, J.Mendoza, C.Gaxiola

    Mexico - Guadeloupe 4-3 - D.Valadez 2, M.de la Rosa, M.del Palacio Langer

    Mexico - Trinidad & Tobago 5-1 - F.Estrada 3, G.Olguin, D.Valadez

Fairly straight forward group stage. USA B didn't provide any challenge, and we only got challenged a bit by the weakest team Gouadelopue as we put on 10 subs for that game, rotating the squad. My only concern was an injury to my sub left-back, which meant A.Diaz had to play every game, but I would put a centre back out there as soon as the game was decided.

    Quarter Final (if applicable)

    Spoiler

    Mexico - Honduras 3-0 - C.Gaxiola, F.Estrada, O.Romo

Still in the quarter final I could rotate the squad a bit without any worries. A comfortable 3-0 win, set up a semi final clash with the toughest opponent Costa Rica.

    Semi Final (if applicable)

    Spoiler

    Mexico - Costa Rica 3-2 - S.Rodriguez, F.Estrada, J.Mendoza

By far the toughest game, and after going 1-0 up, we crashed to 1-2 before half time. Gaxiola and Olguin where not hitting the target and I feared an upset. But Estrada turned out to be my key player for the tournament and he made it 2-2 early in the second half. I was preparing for extra time, and thinking heavily how to balance my team as the Costa Ricans seemed fitter and more up for the challenge. Thats when midfielder Jonathan Mendoza scored a long range shote 1 minute into stoppage time to take us to the Final :)

    Final (if applicable)

    Spoiler

    Mexico - Canada 4-1 - A.Diaz, F.Estrada 2, G.Olguin

Canada have 1 really good striker playing for Juventus, but it was not hime but the other striker who put them ahead after 40 minutes. Still we managed to score 2 goals before half time, and in the second half there was never any doubt. Winning a sound 4-1 we brought the Gold Cup home where it belongs for my 14th landmark in this challenge.

    Aftermath

    Spoiler

I immediately resigned and hoped to get both a club job and an international job (club job first obviously.) Clubs available included Sao Paulo and AC Milan, International job was Colombia with a really nice team that could challenge for both World Cup and Copa America. I got the Sao Paulo offer first and jumped on it, as I need Copa Libertadores and a cup win in Brazil would be nice also, the league is not needed as I only need the big 5 for the remainder of my career. Unfortunately the process took too long time to get Colombia as they appointed someone else not waiting for me. Sao Paulo are 8th with half the season remaining, and thats the position I need to qualify for Copa Libertadores. They are still running in the Copa Perdigao do Brasil also.

  9. The Earls Ultimate Quest (FM17)

PAOK 2026/27 and 2027/28 Greek Super League and Mexico (from mid 2027)

After Spartak I really though I could get a good job, but it turned out all I could get was PAOK. Well fair enough the club is one of 4 favorites for the Greek title. My reputation was 55% but even after 2 seasons at PAOK it was still the same.

Its not really a lot to tell from these two seasons other than we won the domestic double both seasons. But also knocked out of Europe at early stages.
