  1. So it has to be all clubs as Linfield, Crusaders, Ards, Glentoran, Carrick etc were in it

Yes, if just one club from top division doesn't take part , it doesn't count I am afraid. Theres has been given some diversion for Mexico as the country doesn't have a proper cup for all teams. But for N.Ireland when you have both League Cup and FA Cup this can't count I think when there are clubs from top division not taking part.

Sorry for this, but its good for your rep. that you won it.

  2. Alright lads been playing the challenge just not had much time so that's why am only posting now, just before i do my end of season updtate does the Northern Irish County Antrim Shield count as any of the trophies ? I played 4 matches to win it plus was full of all the other big teams. There is League and FA Cup besides this in N.Ireland so just wondering thanks

The criteria is that ALL clubs of the Top Division in the country participate in the cup. If thats the case then the competition counts towards the challenge. So if you are not sure, go back and check if all clubs joined at some stage during the competition.

  3. Great to see a lot of "newcomers" here.

kaiser great progress, I miss playing with Porto, such a great team

numero uno great winning a cup so early and get a international job

mcclarke champion in Malaysia already is nice, hope you can get some good jobs from now on

blackdevil great trophy hunting, and that Europa League trophy surerly boosted your rep

As for my self felt a bit down to play this challenge lately. Have won Serie A with AC Milan, but currently not sure if I should continue or start over to get a fresh start and hopefully some more motivation for this challenge.

  4. Just finished my first season, wanted to have a go at seeing how this table works so thought I'd post an update. Took a job in Wales just to get a foot on the ladder picked up a coaching badge and had a pretty good win percentage. Planning to move onto a better league now.

Great to see someone finally start in Wales. I failed that in FM15 and had to restart. What I can say from experience is be patient and build your reputation slowly, dont get gready to change clubs too fast unless the new club you want approaches you.

  5. I've been doing this challenge on FM16 for a while now (well i'm on my 6th season) but have been unable to login cos the password reset never sent me out an email. Just found an old password reset from 2015 and that let me login.

Anyway quick query to see what y'all prefer. I can do a separate post for each year, or just a quick overview (with pictures) for each year and go from there.

Alternatively, I could start over from scratch I dont mind im not overly attached to the save yet only 1 top league win and 2 cups.

After reading the above post im tempted to do the new save with South America lol

If you start over its totally up to you of course. Regarding updates for your ongoing progress its also up to you. I dont mind a quick update for the 5 first seasons, as most participants dont win a lot of trophies in the first seasons anyway. If you feel there is a lot to tell about these seasons and a lot of club changes then maybe a season by season is a better way to go.

  6. Hi looking to have a go at this what leagues are best starting off in ? i was thinking of loading maybe South Africa, Scotland, South Korea, N.Ireland and Wales to start off with

It really depends how hard a challenge you want. I would say for an "easy" go you should start in lower league on England League Two or possibly League One if you can get a team there after half a season or one whole seasno. I started in Holland, was a fun expereicne, but Scotland might be better if you after a while can get teams like Rangers.

Generally I would say with FM16 stick with a club for at least 2 seasons, or you would fast gather a reputation as a "club jumper" which might block a move to a future top team.

Welcome and good luck with the challenge!

  7. TheEarl Why did you decide to leave Fenerbahce? I think your chances to win the league in your second season would have been good after a 3rd place finish. Anyway, good luck with Milan! Hopefully you can bring them back to old glory. Also interesting how you can get the France job while it seems to be tough for you to get big club jobs. Hopefully managing France will give a boost to your reputation.

I left Fenerbahce as I thought I would get some better teams, which I didn't at all so it was a big failure. Now that I am with Milan I hope for a prosperous part of my career again though.

When it comes to National Management versus Club Management in FM16 that seems a bit different. Your reputation seems to be based on your reputation as a National Manager and not as your Club Manager. Thats why I can get the France job. That said France was down to 21st in the World Rankings. Club Reputation seems to be more difficult as it seems more divided between World Reputation and Local Reputation than in FM15. Meaning I can't get a job at the big clubs in France at the moment, PSG/Monaco/OM. That is kind of funny as I could be the country's National Manager.

  8. The Earls Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

Maybe a bit dull update this, but progress has been bad for a couple of seasons, this is a summary of how I have fared.

    2028/29 - Spezia / Uruguay

After leaving Fenerbahce I thought I would get some decent teams interested. It was only 1 year since I won the Copa Libertadores. But no, my reputation was not that good in Europe, and I had the habit of leaving after just 1 season so clubs where not that interested in me. I had to change "tactic" and the new was to emphasis on one country and stick to that country. The team I ended up with was Spezia in Serie A, Italy. They where 15th when I joined late in september and my first season was an overachievement. I got Spezia up to 7th (joined club-record). And by the scrap of it I qualified them for next seasons Europa League.

I took over Uruguay also, playing qualifying games for World Cup 2030 and sitting comfortably in 2nd/3rd spot behind clear leaders Brazil.

    2029/30 - Spezia/AC Milan / Uruguay

Next season was the difficult 2nd season with Spezia, and we underperformed. Mostly sitting in 10th/11th position, but then an opening occurred when AC Milan sacked their manager. I was appointed manager just as Spezia slipped to 14th in the league. AC Milan was 9th and I promised to bring them to Champions League, which required a 3rd position. I got some new players in the transfer window with Milans heavy budget and steadily climbed the table. However I only managed 4th, Semi Final in Coppa Italia and Quarter Final in Champions League. This means next season we will only play in Europa League. I did survive the job though as the board gave me benefit of the doubt after a good end to the season.

Uruguay got easily to World Cup. Finished 2nd in the Group Stage, and actually knocked out Spain in the Quarter Finals only to loose to Serbia in the Semi Finals.

I do look a lot more positive on the future though as Milan has a strong squad, and after World Cup I was appointed manager of France who has a much better team than Uruguay.

I will not post the summary this time, but will be back with it in the next update. (I am now as far in my updates as the progress really is on this save.)

  9. The Earls Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

Its been a long time since the last time I had chance to write some updates here, so hopefully I will be able to contribute with a couple of (un)interesting updates today.

    2027/28 - Fenerbahce / Holland - Turkish SuperLeague (Tier 1)

After I quit Internacional I was a bit late, most clubs had changed manager already in Europe. Real Madrid was one of them and they had appointed the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. I applied for Leverkusen only to get laughed at. I was thinking "what the h***" I am just the winner of Copa Libertadores and they laugh at me. Leverkusen then appointed the manager of Fenerbahce and with some experience in the country I applied for a job that seemed certain for a league victory. I got the job, but only after the transfer window was shut already.

On the positive side, the club had started with 3 wins and 1 draw in the league, the draw against one of the rivals Besiktas. On the negative side the club had only strengthen the squad with 1 player in the transfer window, an Argentinian left-back and lost in the Champions League playoffs to Olympique Marseille. We where going to play in the Europa League though.

My first game was a game against Dynamo Kyiv which we won 3-0 away. Easy I though, and we would go on to win 4 of the 6 group matches in Europa League and qualify early for the knockout stages. In the league we won our first match 3-1 at home to Eskisehirspor. But then we went into a really bad run in the league. We lost 3 games in a row. We never found form before christmas and lost another few games and played a draw in 4 games straight. We found ourselves in only 8th position and the performance in Europa League kept me alive.

After christmas our form was something quite different and we started winning most matches again, but it would soon prove that the league was left far too late. We ended up 5 points behind winners Osmanlispor in 3rd and that meant only Europa League next season as well.

In the Turkish Cup, we progressed easily from the group stage. Quarter Final saw us draw Adana Demirspor and we won 3-2 away and 3-0 at home for an easy 6-2 aggregate score. Semi Final was against Eskisehirspor. After 1-0 win away, I thought it would be easy again. But this time no. We lost 1-0 at home, no goals in extra time and the tie was decided by penalties. We lost (as I always do in penalty-shootouts) and didn't make the Final.

In the Europa League we knocked out Dnipro and Benfica before setting up a Quarter Final against Real Sociedad. 1-1 away gaves us a good hope before the home game, but yet again we lost 1-0 at home and went out of the tournament. No good season this as I went home from Turkey with no trophies.

With Holland we played in the 2028 EURO, and won against Ukraine and France in the group stage, and playing draw with Austria. This gave us the 1st place in the group and a 2nd Round game against Scotland. High favorites for the game, we where shocked by the Scots who played for a 0-0 and penalties. They got what they came for and knocked us out in the shoot-out. (Hardly had to type that, we all know what happens when I play shoot-outs now dont we).

Disappointing season, and off I went to new hunting grounds again.

  10. Didn't know I could see stats like that lol took a little digging around to find it:

Salary per Annum table: League position in brackets:

    1. £14.99m - Olympiakos (2nd)

    2. £12.04m - AEK (5th)

    3. £8.83m - PAOK (3rd)

    4. £6.08m - Panaigialeios (1st)

    5. £5.08m - Atromitos (7th)

    6. £3.78m - Panathinaikos (4th)

    12. £1.88m - PAS Giannina (6th)

I have recently re-negotiated some contracts so don't know if that will have already affected the table, possibly without the new contracts it'd be about 4 or 5 mil.

Interesting to see, in my game around this date I cant remember exactly, but I think Olympiakos had around £25m salary

These numbers by the way is NOT the clubs budget, but the actual spending, so the budgets could be either lower or higher.

Still a remarkable achievement with Panaigialeios at this stage to beat the top teams in the division.

  11. If you are interested in doing a harder challenge, where you MUST add lower ranked countries to compete, try my challenge:

    http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/454217-The-Tetradecagon-Challenge-continuation-of-an-old-challenge

Read about this, might attempt this at a later stage, but read your comment also that your challenge is harder. I promise you this challenge is hard enough in FM16, getting the right clubs is not that easy at all. But good luck to you, and as I said I might give it a go later. The thing about UFMC is that you cant just pick the club you want, you have to earn the right to manage it ;)

  12. mihc - I feel you.

Earl - Congrats on the Lib. GL in Euro '28. I know it was a while ago, but why did you leave Lazio? You weren't sacked for finishing 2nd, were you?

GJJ - Well done on promotion. Is the plan to stick with alloa and try to get into the SPL, or trade up clubs?

One of many mistakes in FM16. I thought I would get a better team. Internacional was ok, but I really thought I would get one in the Big 5 with even better possibilities than Lazio. Later you will see that I will have to take a step down, and hopefully build my reputation. The jump and bump around technique that I used for changing teams in FM15 definately dont work for me in FM16, so this challenge will be really testing to complete for me. Not sure if I ever can make it really....

  13. The Earls Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

    2027 - Internacional / Holland - Brazilian Serie A (Tier 1)

For the new season with International I didn't do a lot in the transfer market, but a few key signings where made, especially the striker Kelvin. I also made 2 important loan moves. Rogerio from Lazio whom I managed before and Palhinha from Juventus, both of them good midfield players.

In the Gaucho State Championship we where rampant all the way. 1 draw and the rest of the games we won all the way to the final against Gremio. We lost away 0-2, but won 4-0 at home for a 4-2 aggregate win and another State Championship.

In the Serie A we started the season with 15-2-0 in the first 17 games and had a sound and clear lead.

In the Copa Libertadores we got the following teams in our group: Independent Santa Fe, Boca Juniors and Atletico Penarol. We won all 6 group matches, but most of them with 1 goal. We then met Boca Juniors again in the 2nd Round and won 2-0 away and then 2-0 at home for a total 4-0 aggregate win. We met Santos FC in the Quarter Final and won easily 3-0 away and could rest a few players in the heavy schedule at home. We lost 1-2 but still progressed with 4-2 aggregate score. In the Semi Finals we met Corinthians probably the hardest opponent. Still in great form we won 5-2 at home and then drew 2-2 away for a 7-4 aggregate win.

In the final we met Rosario Central. A bit of nerves came in and also the players where tired. We won 2-1 away and then 1-0 at home for a total 3-1 win and a Copa Libertadores to tick off.

We had not yet entered the Brazilian Cup and I resigned as manager of International thinking I had done enough in South America for now.

With Holland we would go on to win all 8 matches in the Qualifying for Euro 2028.

  14. Good to see people still going on this challenge. I think we've lost some to shiny new challenges, and you've lost me to an old challenge. I actually returned to this challenge for about 15 minutes today, but once I realsied how much work my Southend side needed, I returned to my youth challenge. I thought it would only last 1 season, like (almost) all my other attempts.

T&TD - Congrats on your first 5 trophies. (I realise you got the CSL a while back). You're probably right about the world club cup. I stayed on because it's so soon after the African Champions league ends. The ridiculous ease that one can get to the latter stages of the African CL just makes it more bitter if you come a cropper at the every end, so I'm glad you escaped that outcome. Where next I wonder. Was it you that was having trouble getting a top job in S Korea. I wonder if that will have changed. I'm interested in the dynamics of getting jobs in FM16. I'd say in FM15, you would be very eligible, so let's see. Of course, you have a range of other directions that you could go in.

roymik - Shenxin were relegated last year in real life as well. I hope that you can get them straiught back up (and I hope that doesn't happen in real life). It can take a while to get a (good) job at the start, but really good success with the Saudi Arabia U23. If you got the Shenxin job in december, it must be a long wait for the players to come back.

Earl - Congrats on winning the Brazilian Marathon. GL with the Libertadores; a competition I have fond memories of. (90 minutes of memories, but fond nonetheless). Can't believe that you were relegated in the nstions league and didn't get sacked by holland. Your Holland is a different one from mine. I don't remember calling the Confed Cup the 'don't get sacked cup' as some have said. I always saw the Nations league as more in that vein. Even if I won every time, my job would still be shown as insecure.

vike - The Nations League as a comptetition towards your status with the board is almost irrelevant. Its not important at all. Infact the individual results against your opponents are more important. We met Germany and England and they are both ranked higher than us and thus loosing was not a crisis. Loosing 3 out of 4 matches was obviously not good for my status, but it would all come down to Euro Qualification and then hopefully Euro itself.

If you in the past was unsecure with your nation after winning Nations League, for sure you must have had some other bad results. If not it sounds strange.

Thanks for encouragement though, and yes hope I can win Copa Libertadores, but yes unlike you I have to play every minute of the competition. Hopefully if I win it it can raise my reputation.

  15. The Earls Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

    2026 - Internacional / Holland - Brazilian Serie A (Tier 1)

After leaving Belgium I was only without a country for 1 week before I took over Holland. I didn't want them originally as France, Germany, England, Spain and Italy all changed manager. But Holland was the team that I got, they dont have the extreme quality players like Belgium, but perhaps a slightly more balanced team. Bilal Ould-Chikh and Memphis Depay are still in the team, but especially Depay is getting old.

As for club team I had to wait more than a month before an intriguing offer came to take over International in Brazil. As mentioned many times before, people in this challenge doesn't seem to like the Brazilian league due to heavy fixtures but I love it.

I really didn't understand why the former manager had been sacked, especially not so "early" in the Brazilian Serie A season. He had won the Gaucho State championship and only lost the Copa Libertadores final on penalties. So OK he had lost 5 games in the league, but the clubs 9th position was due to the fact they had played 3 games less than the other clubs. Winning those 3 games in hand would send International up to 4th and potentially close the gap on leaders Corinthians from 15 to 6 points. He had also qualified the team for the Quarter Final of Copa Perdigao Brazil.

I started my management at International with a 2-0 win against Santa Cruz. I managed to buy 2 players as the transfer window wasn't shut already, but one of them Junior a striker from Fluminense was ineligible for the rest of the season. A midfielder Souza from Corinthians could play though and he would give me both quality and depth in midfield for the rest of the season. After the first match we won, we drew one league game before winning 7 straight matches. This brought us up to 4th and still a game in hand. It would turn out to be a very close end of the season with 5 teams possible to win it with 5 games left to go.

We had a bit of a bad patch in October as I thought the league would slip away from us, we lost in the Quarter Final of the Cup 2-4 on aggregate to Flamengo, after lossing both matches 1-2, and in the league we won 1 drew 3 and lost 1 game. Slipping to 5th.

But in the final 10 games we went rampant again, winning 9 games and only loosing 1. That gave this final league table:

    Internacional - 38 - 25 - 5 - 8 - 83 - 41 - 80

    -------------------------------------------------

    Gremio - 38 - 22 - 11 - 5 - 62 - 27 - 77

    Santos FC - 38 - 22 - 10 - 6 - 72 - 40 - 76

    Corinthians - 38 - 22 - 8 - 8 - 77 - 45 - 74

At. Paranaense crashed in the final part of the season and ended 5th with only 67 points.

So another league title to my belt and a chance to compete in Copa Libertadores next season.

With Holland we won a friendly easily against Israel 4-1, before we played in the European Nations League Div.A against Germany and England. It was devastating to see how far off the quality of the best we where. We drew 1 game and lost the 3 others. Crashing out to be relegated to Div.B
