I was actually thinking of something along those lines for a giggle, but I am on course for a second season in a row winning every game so don't want to mess the record up just yet when I am so close haha

No you don’t want to mess with a winning season but it could be a bit of a preseason trial.

im looking forward to the kids going to bed later to get on my save, the last preseason game I played last night was a testimonial I set up for DDG against Athletico Madrid and using the new tactic I adopted we won 5-1 using a very rotated team but I was very happy with Angel Gomes getting a hat trick of thunderb******s from whilst playing as a Mazzala against Oblak

Really he'sjust as good as the ones I have already, they were just already here, I didn't really need him, just bought him because he was available and I am greedy lol. Theres nothing wrong with having 4 top class cbs, just keeping them all happy is the main thing. TBF I didn't want Skriniar, the board bought him, he's just come in and been on fire, I can't drop him now

I know what you mean about being greedy, I’m the same with strikers, on FM17 I had Rashford, Martial, Dybala, Gabigol and 2 amazing regen strikers and still brought Mbappe, ended up playing a 4-3-1-2 with Gabigol, Rashford and Martial mostly as the wingers and Dybala went from ST to AMC just to get them all in the team

I paid 90m for him in the 5th season. He's not been able to shift Todibo and Dias and now Skriniar to start regularly. I am thinking of training him as a SV as I am using one of them now in a new tactic I am creating. He has many good attributes for the role, just need to improve a few of them.

I’d say he’s definitely a player that you either get as soon as possible or not at all, I feel that if you don’t get him straight away then the players you bring in are probably just as good as him and if you wait too long you end up with young regens that a probably more worthy of the game time to improve them

So I have been testing the tactic with multiple teams who are predicted to finish bottom, I know this isn't that tactics thread but I just wanted to see if it was working so well just because of the squad level or because it is a solid tactic and people here have asked me to share my tactic before. I have also seen a few poeple on here say they can't get a 4-2-3-1 working well.  I'm never happy to share a tactic unless I am satisfied it is good enough though.

Below are the results of the test. All I did was add a manager, plug the tactic in and select use current tactic. I only out it in one slot, and went on holiday. SO there are no new signings.

Mallorca: Predicted 20th Finished 5th, Spanish cup lost on pens in the 3rd round to levante - Scored 3rd most goals in league

Paderborn: Predicted 18th Finished 12th, DFB Pokal lost 1-0 in the 3rd round to stuttgart - Scored joint most goals in league, beat Dortmund in the 2nd round of cup

FC Metz: Predicted 20th Finished 2nd,  French Cup los t in the 9th round to Lens, Coup de Ligue lost 3-2 in the final to Lille -Scored 2nd most league goals, beat PSG 3-0 at home in the league and on pens in the cup

Norwich: Predicted 20th Finished 8th, Carabao Cup lost to United in the Quarters, FA Cup lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Final – Knocked out United and Chelsea in the FA Cup

Lecce: Predicted 20th Finished 9th, Italian Cup lost in the 4th round to Sampdoria – Only 7 pts off European spot

And for the lower league lovers

Eastleigh: Predicted 24th Finished 3rd, Lost narrowly in the playoff final, FA Trophy lost in the 2nd round replay, FA Cup lost 3-2 in the 1st round to Southend – Scored the most goals by far in the league.

From what I cna tell, the tactic is very promising, the main problem is the defence, but I tthink thaat is mainly down to BPDs which for these teams ive tested with, they aren't good enough. SO with signings, or changing it to CB-D they would have done a lot better as most of them had one of the best attacks. So definitely a solid base to work with. I'm goign to do another season test, same teams, but with CB-D and see the difference. Won't be doing that for a day or 2 though as busy. If that test goes well, I will share the tactic

👍 sounds like the tactics pretty solid, might also come down to being able to make changes during games that help turn the game around but from the sound of it you’ve built a pretty decent tactic

Ha yeah that doesn't help his situation I bet

Well believe it or not but prior to his sending off I had no plans to let him go as I was more than happy with rotating Chiesa with Sancho on the right but following the red I was rather annoyed.

Sancho was injured and my final league games were rubbers as I was too far behind the top 2 to challenge and too far ahead to lose 3rd so I just played the youth team and backup players, since Chiesa had annoyed me I player Bellingham on the right and he did really well which is what has indirectly lead to his demise in the team.

That and I’m pretty different on the game to how I am in real life and on FM I will hold a grudge. A few versions ago I was manager of Spain and after winning the quadruple with United Sergio Ramos dared to tell the press that Pogba should leave me and join Madrid as they were the biggest team in the world despite not winning anything in 3 years.......I promptly ended his international career at 31

  6. That midfield and attack coupled with bringing De Ligt into the defence should be more that enough to bring the league back home and I’m hoping to be pushing for the CL as well.

The only concern I have with the team now is Chiesa, with 2 of my tactics not requiring wide attacking players and with Sancho able to play as an AM already and Bellingham being more than capable to play as an ancillary right winger he seems a lot more disposable than he did after the FA cup final loss to Everton

  7. Well I’ve started my preseason of my 3rd season and I’ve decided to try out a tweaked version of Toonarmy’s 4-3-2-1with a flat midfield as on if my tactics with a 4-3-1-2 and a 4-1-3-2 as the others and my midfield especially is looking pretty frightening.

ill probably have The tweaked 4-3-2-1as my starting tacting and the midfield and attack are:

Bruno- Ms, De Jong - DLPd, Pogba - APs

Rashford - IFa, Sancho - Wa and then Haaland - AFa

The PL has to be coming home to old Trafford this season

Just had the best result of the save so far, granted Watford are bottom but we didn't even have Bruno, Jude, Tonali, TAA or Havertz starting hahah

Oh and its confirmed, my board want us to be the new Madrid, they have bid 241m for Mbappe, where the heck am I going to play him? I guess AMR but Jude has made that spot his own and is still getting better damn it

I’ve found Jude to play well behind the striker as a number 10 and that was as an SS

Im keen to move Pogba and De Gea on as well at end of 2nd season got Donnarumma coming on a free and Pogba who is great has been injures moat of the season and he has not been missed also keen to hear what other people have done

Pogba has been great for me personally so you may have just got unlucky with injuries. Myself I’m gonna keep hold of DDG until I get a regen keeper, for some reason I have had a fantastic regen keeper come through the club on each of the last 7 versions of the game

  10. Argh!! Another big game, scouser and a red card for a right sided midfielder.

This time it’s Everton in the FA Cup final and Sancho decided to 2 foot an Everton defender just outside the Everton box for no apparent reason.

Not too impressed with the ME though as I’ve been playing a few games now with the shortest possible passing instructions and my players are still trying to bang the ball 50 yards to no one

I know what you mean there, was having that problem but I have pulled them back to the halfway line on the tactics screen on w-s and they seem to be doing it a lot less now, I'm seeing more crosses from them now, they still do the odd messi run but nothing like before

Ah I might give that a go, maybe try a winger on the right and an IW on the left

I assume that one of your 2 cms in the 4231 are defensive, thats what I meant :)

I let vic go because I thought Axel had more room to grow. He didn't really improve for me, but that could be down to me not getting the development side right at the start.

Martial is a great player but is he going to play if you have rashford iin his best spot? I suppose if you're not going to play Sancho on that side then hes good back up.

I actually almost signed Chiesa, but I changed mymind after scouting him for about a year, I didn't think he was better than any of the wide players I had and would barely get a game, so yeah I can see why you would have him in your thoughts to get rid.

Please let me know if you manage to get Sancho performing consistently well on the right as I couldn't, he did ok but nothing special and nothing like he has been performing on the left since I moved him there. I really wanted him to work on the right. He keeps Rashford out the side on the left, Rashford even asked to leave last season because he couldn't get a game. I didn't let him go though, I just played him till he was happy then switched back haha.

Ah yeah tends to be either a CMd or a BWMd.

Im not sure about the wings I find them so frustrating, the wingers just seem to run wide, never cross and then shoot for no reason and the inside forwards and wingers just cut inside and shoo horribly wide.....I may need to take a long look at them and see how I can get the best out of each

If that's your full squad then I wouldn't say its bloated, you don't really have cover for the dm

For me Bellingham has bean a beast on the right wing, Sancho is way better on the left cutting in> Gomes as well ihas been much better for me on the left.

Personally if I was choosing who to get rid f it would be Martial, Bailly and McTominay. Im now in the 5th seaosn and the only one of those three that lasted was Tuanzebe, but I sold him in the summer.

Well I haven’t really played a DM tactic since restarting after the winter update as I personally prefer a 4-2-3-1, that’s why I’m not overly stocked there but I may look at Garner as a 3rd choice in that position. Long term plan for the save is to develop youth players and not really buy that much unless they’re youth. De Jong is coming in because Liverpool wanted him and De Ligt because De Jong wants me to improve my defence.

I’m torn between Axel and Victor leaving, I want to keep United youth players but I also don’t want to keep them just because they’re United youth players if that make sense.

Martial hasn’t been that bad for me, is was the first choice ST at the start of the second season and he was top goalscorer up until January when he got injured just after I brought in Haaland (again to stop liverpool having him) and he was injured for the rest of the season pretty much.

Personally Chiesa is the one I’m currently thinking of moving on although that might be for the sending off he got in the 2nd minute of the CL SF 2nd leg again Liverpool when we were 2-1 up on aggregate. But I’m seriously tempted to play 2 tactics with Sancho on the right of a 4-2-3-1 as a winger and possibly Greenwood then in a 4-1-2-2-1 as and IF

Teams susss you out eventually, I had to use different tactics at times because they stopped working for a while, you have to adapt just as the opposition do. What role do you use Mason as? He was on fire for me then had a 6 or 7 game dip so I literally changed the tactic to help him. He was mostly used as an AF. He does pick the wrong shots often, he seems to need a few chances at times, then others he is clinical.

I’ve used him as an AF and a CFa, I did take him out and replace him with Haaland for a while.

Currently I’m trying to figure out who’s expendable in my squad as I’d say it’s quite bloated now.

    GK- DDG, Henderson

    RB - AWB, Dalot

CB - Maguire, Lindelof, Tuanzabe, Baliey and 2 Regens (I want De Ligt)

    LB - Williams, Shaw

DM - De Jong (arriving in the summer) Florentino Luis

CM - Pogba, McToninay, Garner, Bellingham

    AMR - Sancho, Chiesa

AMC - Bruno, Angel Gomes, Hannibal

    AML - Rashford, Martial

    ST - Haaland, Greenwood
