You need to understand the negotiating tactics in the game better.

Rule 1 - If you're bidding for a player who isn't on the transfer market, declare interest first and see how the player reacts. If he says he would love to join you, table a bid at what you think would be a fair prices, but DON'T choose 'Suggest terms', actually make the offer. The likelihood is the team will reject the bid but as it's them who have said no, there's more chance of the player becoming unsettled. If you luck out after this, the player requests a transfer and you can then get him at a reasonable price. Play the long game, it's worth putting in the effort.

Again I understand how it works and when I have the time to play the transfer market that way I do but in my experience that’s not always the case.

For example on FM19 I offered £40M day one of a save for De Ligt and Ajax wanted £60M. I negotiated them to £45M upfront and £10M in future fees dependent on performance.

Arsenal then came in for him a few in game days later and they had an offer of £27M for the whole deal accepted.

I had a similar issue with De Jong but I decided not to follow through with the transfer as I didn’t overly need him and wasn’t prepared to have to pay nearly twice as much as an AI controlled team for him.

As has been pointed out about a million times, SI put this mechanic in the game a few editions back because people moaned at the generic 'he's not for sale' message you used to get. It basically means the same thing, but if you're stupid enough to pay it, they'll accept.

I understand why it’s there that’s not my complaint.

my issue is that the game will almost never offer a fair amount (based off his actual value and stats and I do mean stats not attributes) but they expect the player to pay over the odds for almost all players unless they’re on the transfer market or they have a release clause

  3. This has been an issue for several games now.

Occasionally a team will pay a decent price but otherwise your buggered.

On FM19 Lukaku had a great first season for me where he got 40 odd goals in about 44 appearances, I wasn’t fused about him staying but wasn’t looking to sell him either.

Throughout the summer Real Madrid kept talking about being interested in him and they finally offered £70M for him even though he was valued at £80M. The highest they would negotiate to was £82M so I kept him.

I offered £10M for a regen of theirs  who hadn’t played a game for their youth team let alone their first team who was valued at £3.4M and they wanted £130M and wouldn’t negotiate below £100M

It's nothing really to do with SI. They know it happens, but don't condone it or tell people how to do it or that they should do it - they keep an arm's length from talk about logo or face packs.

The people doing the threatening of legal action, and the only people who could comment on their specific motivations, would be the rightsholders (football clubs, competition organisers, etc), and they're likely only going to say "We are ensuring that our intellectual property rights are being respected by raising concerns to websites and individuals who appear to be in breach of relevant intellectual property law and giving them the opportunity to rectify their breach without the need to take further legal action."

I realise this has nothing to do with SI, I was questioning

    A. Whether or not they themselves had been approached on the subject.

    B. If they had made a statement regarding what the ongoing issue was actually about other than the slightly vague statement that some of the sites hosting the face packs and name changes had been contacted about taking them down

  5. I spent around £150m on Dybala on an early save of FM19.

I didn’t actually need him as I was using youth players and a couple of wonderkids thats I brought doing well for me but City were trying to sign him and I didn’t want my rivals improving their squad to challenge my 3rd straight title attempt with United.

Also I must add that I had been looking at signing Dybala originally at the end of the first season but with Gomes and Chong in the squad I wanted to give them a chance. End of the second season I nearly went for him again but chose not to again due to having Gomes and Ching as well as some wonderkids. I only got him in January of the 3rd season due to City having an offer accepted

  6. Unfortunately I don’t have a screenshot of him anymore as it was on an old laptop but I had an absolute beast of a CB on FM11.

he was labelled as the next Franco Baresi, 6ft8” Strength, jumping, heading and marking all 20. Tackling 19 and then pace and acceleration of around15/16 and passing of 15 with 15+ for positioning, decisions and anticipation.

I only had him for 2 seasons before my laptop died but he scores over 20 goals in that time, I’d just aim my corners for the back post and watch I’m dominate

I didn't know that he was unhappy or looking to move honestly. Madrid had come in for him the year before and I refused, we chatted and I said I would accept a certain valuation that I never received and then he eventually dropped it because the value wasn't met. But then when I went to renew because he only had 12 months left, his agent said he wasn't interested because other clubs were interested in him.

Ah bugger the only thing I can suggest is to try and offer him a contract every couple of days once a the transfer window closes

Yeah he's refusing an extension because other clubs are interested in him. I ended up cancelling the transfer since his personal negotiations outran the window and I didn't have time to find a replacement. Not sure why he wants to leave honestly. We've won the past like 3 PLs and 2 of the past 3 CLs, there isn't a bigger club out there.

Ah one of those, normally if they ask to leave I tell them that they’re integral to the squad (or something like that) and they want to stay.

is there an option for an automatic contract extension? That’s usually a good stop gap to get them to stay a year longer and then you can usually offer them a new contract a bit later when the transfer windows close

Well Madrid were coming in for de Ligt in my save and I countered asking for 95mil and they apparently decided to match. He's the best CB in the world at the moment, so I guess I'm not surprised, but it has certainly given me a tough decision to make. He only has a year left on his contract as well, so maybe it's just right to cash in. Not sure how the hell I'd replace him though. Beginning of the 22/23 season so I suppose I could try to find a good regen at this point but it would probably be tough.

Personally I don’t see the need to cash in on players. I’ll sell players I don’t need but I’ve never sold one of my top players before, I’ve never run into FFP issues and with United I alway end up with more money then o could possibly spend on both wages and transfers.

So unless De Ligt is refusing a contract extension then keep him, especially if he’s the best in the world

The whole transfer module is intensely complicated, but having said that, there are several areas of that module that do require some work.

    Thanks for the response FrazT.

I wasn’t getting at the game or the transfers as a while more of just venting really.

i don’t tend to do lower league games but with my hometown club (Hereford FC) available in the game again I’d thought I’d give it a go and I’m enjoying the save just noticed the issues with trying to get players who are never going to play for their club but would be Key Players for me being priced at well well over their valuation. That and noticing transfers to other AI clubs can be very different to buying them yourself.

But it’s good to know that it’s at least noticed and acknowledged that it does need some improvement.....not a whole lot of changes but just some minor amendments

Why wouldn't they want big money for a young talent when a big team expresses interest?  It happens irl.  A 14 year old Sheyi Ojo cost Liverpool 2m from MK dons. Raheem Sterling reportedly cost 5m from QPR when he was 15 etc etc wether they've played youth games, first team games or not is irrelevant these days. Top young  talents are going to go for big money these days

Well I understand where your coming from but I’m the case I provided I would be managing Hereford FC in the National League and the player I was after was from Aalborg

  12. Hey all, just curious how everyone one is finding transfers within the game.

Personally I find them inconsistent at best and annoying and tedious at worst.

It seems that AI teams (in my experience anyway) seem to find it easier to get deals for players than I do. For example on a few of my saves Ajax will take nothing less than £40M for De Ligt (I was Man Utd) and yet on another save using the same database when playing as a lower league team they sold him to Arsenal for £27M.

Same type of thing has happened with other players and other clubs and it just seems that the AI always want more for a player from a human controlled club than they do from another AI club.

This also seems to be the case with selling players as the AI will very rarely pay over what a player is valued at.

All of this is just annoying but I think the biggest pain is trying to buy young players. Now I can understand a young player who is part of an international youth team being valued by the club at more than what they’re actual value is but why the hell is a 16 year old who hasn’t played a single game for a clubs u18s who is valued at 4K suddenly worth £3M to that club?

Its all so vexing and while this will not stop me from playing the game as it is another fantastic entry in the series it just becomes annoying when trying to build a lower league club. Also I must say that I’m not suggesting that we go back to how the series used to be where you could buy wonderkids for pennies but as I said being quoted £3M for a player who would only be classed as a decent National League player is ridiculous

  13. Well I’m looking at this for the squad for the first season then add regens as they come into the club.

Gk - De Gea/Romero (Henderson when he returns and then sell Romero)

RB - Dalot/Herrera (Great stars for the position)/Laird

CB - Bailly, Lindelöf/Smalling, Jones with Tuanzabe, Bejger, O’Conner

LB - Shaw and I’m not sure yet

CM - Pogba, Matic / Fred, Periera with Garner, Puigmal and maybe Traoue

    AMR - Lingard / Gomes

    AML - Martial / Chong

ST - Lukaku, Rashford / Beechey, Greenwood, Birkart

  14. So after getting most of the way through the 3rd season on my United save I’ve hit a bit of a wall where I kinda want to carry on purely to see how my regen Ben Beechley (screenshot found earlier in the thread) grows but unfortunately it’s not enough to make me continue our right as I feel that I’ve brought in too many players to give him a proper run at the team.

so instead I’m going to start a new save but I’m going to add Ben to the database as he appears in the screenshot. As part of this new save I will be relying only on players from my youth team and youth intakes so I will be making no transfers into the club except staff.

This way I can use the youth players properly and enjoy the save better

i have finished season 1 and somehow i managed to win the league on the last day of the season. i  beat west ham away and Chelsea lost to arsenal. was a difficult and frustrating season. relied on my 442 tactic for about 95% of games but then made a very basic 4231 for the last few games as was getting annoyed during games. not sure how to make the tactic any better so for season two i may get better quality players in. i also played some players out of position and in unsuitable positions for a lot of the season so that could have possibly played a part in a poor season. went out early in both domestic cups but have just beaten real madrid in champions league final 3-2 (playing the basic 4231)

andreas pereira was my top goal score throughout with 21 goals including a hat-trick in champs league final.

good player glad i have him but with all the forward talent at united im a little disappointed it wasnt one of them.

It your after a decent 442 tactic I’ve been using th Knap Beowulf 424 and it’s been brilliant for me.

won the club World Cup final against River Plate 15-0
