Thanks for the response Gene.  That is what I thought too, but I can't seem to find that information anymore, they just seem to have a preferred formation (and 2nd formation) and set piece preferences now

They moved it I believe — it's still there. I randomly found it the other day when doing a staff comparison between two possible staff members.

  2. Just kicked off the 2026-27 season with Strasbourg. The last three seasons we've finished second to PSG each season. It's an interesting save. Ligue 1 seems to be in a bit of turmoil at the moment with most teams struggling to compete. Lyon has finished 10th, 12th, and 7th. Thus far it's been Nice, OM and Strasbourg all fighting for second every year, with everyone else lagging far behind.

The Strasbourg board, however, is not helpful in the least. The money was there and then they decided to build a new stadium which killed a lot of our momentum. I'm over my salary budget due to having to extend a few contracts for key players, but now I'm over budget and the board won't let me move the 3 million in transfer funds I have to the salary budget. I'm struggling to raise funds for players and my wage budget is very restrictive. I managed to hold onto Emegha thus far, but I may have to sell him this summer otherwise I risk sliding backwards. I'm honestly not that upset since he's not playing to the level that his backup Max Morestedt is (31 goals and 9 assists in 33 matches).

I've done as well as I have thanks to some players like Bakwa, Sylla and Emegha all developing into leading Ligue 1 talents and making use of my link with Chelsea who are more than happy to send their players to me on loan.

We finally won our first trophy this season, the Trophée Des Champions against PSG. They had a plethora of injuries but I'll take what I can get at this point. PSG has been so dominant this save that it's nice to FINALLY pull one over on them.

  3. I have a few suggestions but I wouldn't say I'm by any means an authority on tactics.
It looks like you're probably getting overrun in the midfield, which probably seems counterintuitive based on your formations and roles but it's probably happening.

-You have have three central mids but only one who is doing the dirty work — you have a CM on attack with "roam from position" and an AP on attack.  I would maybe take off the "roam from position" and possibly change the AP to a role that will provide more bite in the midfield. Maybe a BBM, a DLP on support, or even a BWM on support or even defense.

-You passing is focused down the flanks because you have an IW on both flanks but they can't really cut inside because your midfielders are already taking up those spaces by drifting wide. Combine this with the IWB and IFB  who are supposed to sit inside and help the midfield but instead have to provide width because you have inverted wingers ahead of them. This leaves you woefully exposed in the middle.

  4. Well done @MattyLewis11

I want to get mine up and running this evening or tomorrow possibly — I'm still playing my Beta save with Strasbourg. I look forward to hearing more about your plans utilizing DNA data. I think for a club like Ajax this would be especially useful in identifying "Ajax" players.

Random question, but what skin are you using?

Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment, I think it is fair to say that @Cleon has inspired many of us with regards to his historic/current articles! If I can help to aid the understand with regards to youth development through this thread, then I would have achieved my goal.

I am yet to start the save, as waiting for full release. Ajax start staff less in FM due to licensing issues, and therefore as soon as the editor becomes available, an the guys updating the real name fix (etc) patch on Sortitoutsi do their thing, I will be in position to kick things off.

Don't worry, I have you all covered, my next post will land later in the week, this will be setting the scene, helping to make the wider audience aware of the chaos that has been going on within the club.

After that I have written another post on the Ajax way DNA, introducing you to some of the talent from within De Toekomst. This will provide mw with an initial buffer, enabling me the time to get stuck into the save and start getting my thoughts down on paper.

I am really excited for this save to begin and truly believe it can be a special one.

    Cheers @MattyLewis11

I'm in the same boat as you, waiting for the the full release before starting my Ajax save due to the licensing issues you mentioned.

I'll be utilizing a 3-4-3 in the vein of Van Gaal - but also utilizing a 4-3-3 - and the principles Cruyff laid out in numerous videos and interviews. I wanted to sign only staff who have the 3-4-3 as their preferred formation to try and simulate the club having one identity, but when you try and filter staff by preferred formation, you can't select 3-4-3.

Cleons articles on Ajax have been something I keep going back to when I'm playing. Think FM24 is actually more suited to the approach you want to take here, and, its definitely something I'm going to be keeping an eye on, either here, or on VFTT

I'm pretty confident that the way I play today is heavily based on Cleon's Ajax articles over the years.

Yeah I signed De Gea and then sold him after he was moaning about not playing. I made £9m profit from signing him on a free :D

I actually have Nwosu as well.

He hasn't played for me yet but he will probably become my first team goalie at some point.

Nice! I honestly haven't seen much of De Gea in action since signing him. He was injured in the first match he played.

I assume you get more money after a while but I could be wrong.

Hoping so, the transfer budgets for the next two seasons are projected to be £6.5 million each season - likely because our bank balance is so low, £14 million, with no real big sponsorship deals in place. Makes me wonder if they didn't code the ownership by the Chelsea group properly. RB Salzburg has a general 10 yr/£200 million dollar sponsorship deal which seems to reflect the ownership by the RB group.

PSG, Monaco and Strasbourg would be good choices.

I actually started a save on the Beta with Strasbourg, your starting transfer budget is quite limited comparatively. I believe I got just over £1 million and my wage budget is near the bottom of the league, but you have to consider that they bought Sylla and Emegha in the summer which explains the low budget. To be honest I wasn't fully up to speed on the Chelsea-Strasbourg connection until after choosing to go with Strasbourg a few months ago as a my first save. It'll be interesting to see how finances carry on over the seasons.

  10. I had some issues you're describing when playing with a non-gelled team that wasn't familiar yet with the tactic. Otherwise, players tend to do what I ask them so I have no real answer to this.

Two things though: all matches are different because of the players/formation and general tactic of the opposition. You can't really judge a players positioning from match to match that way because the situations are not the same. How is the 'footing' of your wide AM's compared to their position. Players tend to use their strong foot

Here's my tactic my tactic I used to field.

Her's an avarage result (had better, had worse but not by much)

So it can work, even at LLM teams.

Oh I agree, and I'm probably being too hard on it. The familiarity issue is killing me, I'm tweaking as the season progresses, which isn't helping the familiarity, which leads to poor results, which leads to poor morale, which leads to worse results... etc. It looks like it may be starting to improve slightly however.

  11. Gene, an IF is best played on his opposite foot. If they can't cut inside then, there must be some other issues. I used that exact formation on at least a dozen different teams, when appropriate, and it worked. If this isn't helping, maybe you can create a new thread where you give some screenshots of your current tactic, team and describe the problems in some detail. You asked whether it's possible for a striker not to get isolated when not supported by an AM, I told you what I did and with some success. :)

It would be a pity you would dismiss a valid role because it's not working for you at the moment. ;)

Well I'm finding it odd that I give a winger the instructions to sit narrow, and there's no discernible difference in their avg position than in matches where I don't tell them to sit narrow. It's almost as if the instructions I'm giving them don't really matter. I did however find a way to increase the support to the striker, I simply upped the tempo and suddenly he's involved.

Nathan Redmond is a real pain, he has conflicting PPMs. Runs with ball down the right and Cuts inside. Runs with the ball down right seems to take over and so far trying to get him to unlearn the PPM has been a failure. It's just rather frustrating that up until now I've always been able to create tactics that get my team playing exactly the way I want them and now on 14 I'm scrambling to figure anything out. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

  12. Yes it is, but I suggest you overload the middle a bit more. The DL and one of the IF's on support should help out. if you'd want, you could change the attacker to Attack when using that system. That creates oven more space in midfield.

    So that's not really helping...

Through 10 matches I've managed to score 5 goals. The wingers are to too dumb to do anything worthwhile. They're set to IFs but never cut inside. They simply head to the byline, then either kick it off a defender for a corner or drag it back to to the top of the box to be intercepted or have someone kick it miles high and wide. The striker is essentially getting no service at all. I'm at the point now where I'm just going to give up trying to play with a HB and move him up to CAM. The striker just isn't getting support up top on his own.

  13. Is it possible to keep a lone striker from being isolated if he doesn't have CAM playing directly behind him? For the life of me I can't get this to work....

    CONTROL-FLUID

    -Shorter Passing

    -Hassle Opp

    -Be More Expressive

    -Drill Crosses

    -Lower Tempo

    --------DLF (S)------

    IF (A)-------------IF (A)

    -----DLP (D)---AP (A)----

    ----------HB (D)---------

    WB (S)---CB (X)--CB ©--WB (S)

    ----------GK (D)------------

My AP is just not getting forward. Combine that with my wide men being absolute boneheads and every attack breaks down in the final third. Funny enough, as soon as I bring my wide men inside behind the striker.... presto. He has all kinds of support and my wingers suddenly develop a brain. Any suggestions or should I just abandon the wing play all together? Before anyone suggests it... I'm not playing with two up top.
