spacer.png

Note that all transfers happened before Baxter took charge.

The Team

Goalkeepers

spacer.png

Schuhen is our first choice keeper without any doubt.

spacer.png

Key Player: Marcel Schuhen

Defenders

spacer.png

Some good quality here. Klarer and Maglica are strong central defenders, Bader, Franjic and Holland look good on the full back positions. Lots of options there because of the versatility of many players.

spacer.png

Key Player: Christoph Klarer

Midfielders

spacer.png

Kempe and Mehlem lead the way in central midfield. We might be lacking on the wings.

spacer.png

Key Player: Tobias Kempe

Attackers

spacer.png

A lot of options for the lone striker role.

spacer.png

Key Player: Oscar Vilhelmsson

spacer.png

Rising Talent: Fabio Torsiello

Tactics

We will go with this.

3rd Division side Unterhaching scared us a little in the DFB Pokal 1st round match when they leveled our lead quickly but we continued to play our game and it showed in the end. We will face Heidenheim in the 2nd round. The Hessian Derby against Eintracht looks closer than it was, Frankfurt was all over us and we should be happy with that result. In the game against Union at home we were confident and they did not really have a chance in a secure 2-0 win. The fans were delighted.

Bundesliga Table

It is nice that we already secured a win in the first 2 games.

It is what it is and it is not great. But it does not look too bad for us either. Of course, there were 4 defeats and only 2 wins but look at the teams we lost against. Leverkusen for example - we held on to a draw until 5 minutes from time when they scored with only 10 men on the pitch. I guess that shows our inexperience. But we bounced back with a wonderful home win against favored Gladbach: The game was over after half an hour already. Three of our players even made it into the Team Of The Week! But then we went to Stuttgart and they showed us who we are again. And AGAIN we bounced back, this time against Bremen at home when we really showed our fighting spirit. With that confidence we went to Augsburg and snatched a nice draw there. But then against the big ones Leipzig and Bayern we did not really have any chance.

Bundesliga Table

This is a decent league position for us.

2 months, 2 wins in the league. What looks pityful on first sight is actually okay in connection with the 4 draws during that time. In the first game of the month we needed penalties to defeat Heidenheim at home in the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal. We drew Bayern in the next round, at least a home tie. Next we played Bochum at home, a seemingly "easy" game but it wasn´t. We were not able to score and so it ended in a boring goalless draw. The Mainz manager Bo Svensson was trying to play mind games with me before the match, labelling us "not good enough to survive" in the Bundesliga. Well, we taught them a lesson. The away game in Freiburg was nothing special but we came away with a point. Then came our best match of the season: We trashed Cologne in a rare moment of excellent finishing with Braydon Manu getting away with a 10. Next was DFB Pokal time - we played Bayern and we lost. No big story here. We could not find better form for the rest of the year as we drew away at Heidenheim, which counts as a success, lost to Wolfsburg at home and snatched a point at Hoffenheim which somehow made the end of the year somehow okayish for us.

Bundesliga Table

Transfers

We had to get rid of some players. Most of which were complaining about playing more and we loaned them out or sold them.

We also promoted 3 players from our U19s: Goalkeeper David Zimmer, central defender Philipp Christoph and winger Mateo Zelic. They got loads of potential and will train with the 1st team.

Results

spacer.png

What a result! We really defeated big Borussia! The game was somehow typical for us when all goes well: After boring them with short defensive passes, we suddenly broke away and scored a brace just before half time and another one just after it to shut them off and they could only manage a comeback with 2 goals which was not enough. I would have hoped for a win in the Hessian Derby against Frankfurt at home, but a draw is ok. And to end the month, we lost to Union. Not a good showing from us. We need points!

Bundesliga Table

spacer.png

Still looking good, but now the important weeks are ahead of us.

Hard times. We lost 3 games in a row (4 if you include last months defeat) and the games against Leverkusen, Gladbach and Stuttgart were really bad as we really did not have a chance in them. The only positive was that we were able to keep the scoreline decent. Lots of changes were made to the starting lineup, we gave the younger players a chance and so we won in Bremen. This gave us a huge morale bost which we carried into the game against Augsburg and won it too. Confidence was growing again and so we were even able to grab a point in Leipzig despite having 30 shots against us. We expected a defeat against Bayern and thats exactly what happened. Then we went to Bochum and brought home another valuable point.

It was close. Damn close. But we made it. We avoided relegation, despite collecting only 3 points in the last 7 games. But those proved to be vital for our survival. Bo Svensson and Mainz had their revenge on us, then our keeper Schuhen saved us a point in the home draw against Freiburg, we were unlucky in Cologne in the next game, but against Heidenheim we were the lucky ones once more. These ups and downs continued against Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim and finally against Dortmund

Bundesliga Table

spacer.png

One point. But it was enough to secure us another season in the top flight. Union lost against St. Pauli in the promotion/relegation playoffs.

Youth

spacer.png

Our U19 won the Regional Youth League and got promoted to the National Youth League South. Well done boys! There are quite some talents in that team.

Youth Intake

spacer.png

A rather underwhelming intake. But you can´t have world class intakes every day. Erdl looks promising though.

Season Stats

spacer.png

Not the most overwhelmingly good stats. But let´s see the positives: Stojilkovic managed to score 10 goals, Manu scored 6 and assisted 6 and Youngster Riedel made 18 appearances. A lot of players will leave after the season and the team will look different next year. We will have to change our approach to progress further.

Transfers

spacer.png

The most prominent name here are central defender Zimmermann and midfielder Muller, but they wanted to leave so we let them. We also got rid of Hornby who got no place here anymore.

spacer.png

Ontiveros and Dierchx are much needed wingers who can play on both sides, Scholz and Adams are both strong central defenders, Papela bolsters our central midfield, Hollerbach provides depth on our right wing. Bredlow will become our backup keeper and Undav will be our new main striker. Akhamrich is a good talented winger.

The Team

Goalkeepers

Schuhen is our first choice keeper. Then Bredlow. Then Wendt.

We let our benchers play against Amateurs Freialdenhoven in the DFB Pokal and they did the job. Our opponent in the 2nd round will be Gladbach and we will be playing at home. Then we drew away at newly promoted Schalke after a hard fight. I expected more of Leverkusen when they visited us but it ended in a rather easy win for us. In Leipzig, Timo Werner scored a brace to sink us.

This looks better than last season. Only 2 defeats in 2 months for us. We started September with a nice convincing win against Mainz, then had a very bad game against Gladbach but bounced back against Freiburg in a somehow lucky win, where our keeper Schuhen saved us. In October, Dortmund made short work of us, but we were able to beat Cologne in the next game and then drew at promoted team St. Pauli. To top the month off, we made the next round of the DFB Pokal after beating Gladbach. We will now face Stuttgart at home at the beginning of December.

The year could have ended better. We bored our fans to death with a goalless draw against Wolfsburg, then hammered Stuttgart away at their place when everything came together once again, then managed only a draw against Augsburg and finally beat Hannover to end the November. December started well, with us qualifying for the DFB Pokal quarter final after beating Stuttgart and then also luckily beating Bochum. Then we played Bayern and our rivals Frankfurt and lost both games.

Mixed feelings. We lost at home against potential champions Leipzig, snatched a draw at Mainz and then won the DFB Pokal quarter final against Werder after a penalty shootout. Even better - we will play 2. Bundesliga outfit Magdeburg in the semis at home! With that confidence boost, we went on to beat Gladbach and Freiburg. Then Dortmund came to visit and took all 3 points, as did Cologne in Cologne. We were able to pick ourselves up a bit with the win against St. Pauli but then lost again against Wolfsburg.

Talk about near misses. We finished on a record 8th place in the Bundesliga and we reached the final of the DFB Pokal. We won´t complain. The cup semi final was tougher than expected and we needed extra time against Magdeburg to progress to the final. We most probably were still tired 3 days later when Stuttgart trashed us. This was followed by draws at Augsburg and at Hannover before we finally recorded a league match victory again against Bochum. Bayern took out their anger about losing the title on us and then we lost at home against our DFB Pokal final opponent. At least we could win our last league match at Heidenheim. And to wrap up this season, we also lost the DFB Pokal final.

Bundesliga Table

spacer.png

We should be quite happy with that final league position. But if we only had faced Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final...

Youth

spacer.png

Sadly, our U19 was relegated from the National Youth League South. I am sure they will bounce back in the future.

Youth Intake

spacer.png

It was even worse than last year. No player really stands out.

Season Stats

spacer.png

Strangely, only one player got an average rating over 7 and thats from only one game. Nevertheless, the team did very well and the new signings helped reaching our goals. Nice to see the young players progress. Both veterans Kempe and Holland will leave the club after the season due to their advanced age. We will need replacements for them.

Transfers

spacer.png

Both oldies Kempe and Holland left after their contracts were not renewed. We could not say no to the offer from St. Pauli for Stojilkovic. The rest are the usual loans again.

spacer.png

Here we go, our first real spending spree in the Bundesliga. Left wingback Holland had to be replaced and what a replacement we added with Andrei Borza! With already 19 caps for Romania at the tender age of 19, we might have a real gem here. We needed to fill the gap Kempe left in central midfield and in came Cuisance and Racic, both decent. Pieper adds quality to our central defense, Hack gives us more options on both wings and we had to find a new striker and so we brought in TWO: A real target man with Almasi and a rather technical striker who can also function on the wings with veteran Kramaric

The Team

We extended our run of wins to FIVE in a row by defeating Heidenheim! After that we drew against Wolfsburg and lost against Leipzig, both at home. This HAD to happen at some time and I am really glad it happened now. With the pressure off, we made it to the quarter finals in the DFB Pokal once more after disposing of Kaiserslautern. We will play 2.Bundesliga outfit Hertha at home there. A very lucky win at Gladbach followed before we lost at home to Borussia Dortmund in an entertaining match, the fans were excited but saddened by the result. But we made them smile again with a win at Frankfurt, our first away win in the Hessen Derby! Our keeper Marcel Schuhen saved the day!

Hertha pretty certain will be there next season, they are leading the 2. Bundesliga with a 12 point margin right now ;)  Speaking of them - we will actually PLAY AGAINST THEM in the DFB Pokal quarter final at home in february!

I don´t trust the lads yet, there are too many games still to be played and last year we really tired more the longer the season went and we were happy when it was over... But I admit it looks good right now!

Mixed results. The most notable thing is that we reached the semi final of the DFB Pokal again after beating 2.Bundesliga tabletoppers Hertha. We will have to travel to another 2.Bundesliga team for the semis, 1. FC Nurnberg. Won´t be easy for sure with fans like that. Then, still tired from the cup match, we drew against Hannover. We then beat Mainz after an even game and lost against Freiburg after a rather poor performance. Back at home, we could not even beat Hamburg afterwards. A great defensive display helped us win at Cologne but then we lost against Augsburg at home. It surely looks we play better away from home as we then beat Stuttgart at their stadium.

Thanks to our fighting spirit, we finished the season in style. We -luckily, to be honest- beat Heidenheim and Wolfsburg, then lost expectedly to Leipzig and then reached the DFB Pokal final again after overcoming a strong 2.Bundesliga team 1. FC Nurnberg after penalties. With that confidence we beat Gladbach afterwards. Confidence could not prevent us from losing to Dortmund though. We then renewed our rivalry with Eintracht, narrowly beating them in the Hessen Derby. We had to win against Union and we did. One week later we lost the DFB Pokal final.

Bundesliga Table

spacer.png

A great season. We finished 5th and qualified for the Europa League! Union Berlin on the contrast, did not win one single game this season.

spacer.png

The board is delighted.

Youth

spacer.png

We won the regional league again and got promoted to the national youth league. Hopefully they will do better up there this time.

Youth Intake

spacer.png

Again, a rather mediocre intake. Mogge at least stands out a little.

Season Stats

spacer.png

Schuhen and Klarer held our defense together and made it solid like the Berlin Wall. Up front newly signed Target Man Almasi did what we bought him for: Scoring goals. All in all it was again a great team effort.

A final word on this season:

Spoiler

spacer.png

What?? How come? But we only finished 5th?!

Spoiler

Oh ok-so Leipzig won the Champions League, won the Bundesliga and therefore an additional CL place was awarded to the 5th place team. And who finished 5th? Yay!!!

Of course, Klarer´s departure hurt us. But there was no way to prevent this. We needed a good CD replacement now. Undav was sold as well, as was Almasi, so we had to look for new strikers too.

spacer.png

Venezoelan national team defender Ferraresi should replace Klarer. Janitzek is another young CD talent. We needed a better right wing back and in came Singo from freshly relegated Union Berlin. And look who is back: We sold Muller 3 years ago to Vitesse, where he blossomed into a good defensive midfielder. Petrovic is another young and talented defensive midfielder. We also signed Alidou for both our wings and Uzun who can play in midfield and attack likewise. For our attack we signed nice young talent Zeba, but he was loaned out straight away to get match practice in the 2.Bundesliga at Union Berlin. Our main target striker this season will be Pellegri, with Traore coming from the bench.

Lots of draws in September. Nice ones against vs Dortmund, at Legia and at Fenerbahce in contrast to a rather weak one at Nuremberg. In between we defeated Stuttgart at least. Then came the probably best game from us yet in this save: We won against Bayern! Their tiki taka didn´t work against us defending deep and countering quickly. Still, I am impressed by our performance and surprised that Bayern did not do more. We carrioed that confidence over to Heidenheim and also won at their place. Our run could not go on forever though and it was Manchester United who put an end to it. Wirtz´s brace shortly after the break sealed our fate. Still this did not affect our morale too much and we went on to beat Freiburg and Nuremberg in the DFB Pokal to meet Freiburg in the next round. Then we lost 0-3 at Augsburg.

Crisis! We managed only ONE win in 2 months! At one point we started to lose more and more games. We started November with the defeat at Porto, which was predictable though.  Then we drew at home against Mainz and won at Wolfsburg. So it´s all well then? No. Newcastle made short work of us in the CL, we couldn´t beat promoted Hertha at home, went out in the DFB Pokal against Freiburg, suffered a harsh defeat at Leverkusen, then lost our next home game in the CL against Lazio and the following home game against Leipzig. We ended the year with a draw in the Hessen Derby. Morale is way down by now, the winter break comes at the right time.

Thank you, Winter Break! We also defeated 3. Liga outfit Magdeburg in a friendly to finally record a win again. It worked wonders as we trashed first Hamburg and then Hannover. And what a great performance at Anfield to avoid defeat! 3 days on we defeated Hoffenheim and 4 days later lost to PSG before drawing with Cologne 3 days later. The many games surely got to us at the end of the month. Somehow I am glad we are out of the Champions League now. Remarkable stat: Pellegri scored 6 goals in January.

Yeah it has been a crazy season :)  Pellegri is already wanted by some bigger clubs, thats true. But we have a real striker gem waiting, he is currently loaned out and banging them in there at the age of 18 already...

The Lilies

April & May 2027

Results

A boring draw with Mainz was followed by the craziest game of the season: The 4-5 defeat against Wolfsburg. We were actually taking the lead 3 times and ended up losing. We made Hertha pay for it one week later. A man-of-the-match performance by keeper Schuhen secured our 1-0 win against favored Leverkusen. Leipzig then beat with a late goal but we kept our heads up and managed a draw in the Hessen-Derby and won against Hamburg to end the season and secure our 5th place.

Bundesliga Table

We finished in 5th position. A good season again. We were able to consolidate and secure Europa League Football next season. And Pellegrini was voted in the Team of the Year.

Youth Intake

Again, a very mediocre intake. No outstanding player this time. Oh and our U19s again got relegated from the National U19s League.

Season Stats

Pellegri is the only regular with an average rating above 7. It surely was a chaotic and crazy season and you can see it how the goals and assists are divided evenly among all players. The star is the team.
